There were only 2 people in the restaurant besides us and the service was very slow. My wife ordered a ribeye steak medium rare and it was cooked well done and it was paper thin. It looked like it was cooked on a flat top not grilled. It took over 45 minutes for our food to arrive. There was only one person working and I commented about it and he said it was like that every night that he only has help on Friday and Saturday nights. First of all, I just can't understand why this place changes names and themes every couple of years? I'm pretty sure it used to be Italian, And before that it was something else, but it does seem to have a new name every time I check into the attached Holiday Inn. Tonight's issue was all on poor management! Maybe I should change that to terrible management.... Hope they make some improvements or the restaurant will be a Tex-Mex or Asian theme the next time I come to town! I checked into the Holiday Inn and wanted to get a decent meal. Decided to give The Rivers a try. It was a pretty busy Thursday night, almost all the seats at the bar were occupied including a large party table with 8 guests. There was some kind of event going on in the banquet hall in back and the dinning area was a less than half full. I did find a seat at the bar and immediately noticed the poor bartender was overwhelmed. Not necessarily because he was a bad bartender, more because he just didn't have any help. I wasn't really in a hurry so I decided to stay. During my time at the bar I watched as waitresses came in to order drinks, and not even think to help. I also saw a guy that I'm going to assume was the manager come in to get some change for the back room party bar... and also did not offer any help. The bartender had to serve drinks and food to everyone at the bar, including the group of 8 at the party bar. The waitresses would come in with the food, but only stood there until the bartender came and got it from them.. gave no thought to actually serving to to a customer to help out. In fact when my food came in, I actually had to tell the waitress twice that it was my food before she reluctantly served it to me! They were also out of glasses at the bar. The poor bartender had to individually wash each glass as it came in so he could refill it! He also ran out of $10 bills, so anyone getting change got multiple $5 or singles! There were also a number of times that overflow guests from the back room decided they could come up and get drinks quicker at the bar. They were even coming up for water!! Poor bartender... Poor customers like me who's drinks were empty forever as the bartender washed a dirty glasses to fill them with water orders for the customers from the party in the back! Unbelievable! The food was okay. I had the Double BLT. I like it, except the toast (bread) had a little too much garlic. I also ordered their special Brat Cheese Soup (Which came out well after my meal... instead of before). When it did come out it was still warm, but it had that film on it that comes from sitting under a heat lamp waiting for one of the waitresses to remember to bring it out! The soup was a very salty, but I did like it. Oh yeah.. one more thing that ticked me off! Even though they are a Holliday Inn Restauraunt, their system is not set up to charge your bill to your room, which isn't that big of a deal. But I'm a IHG Point collector so I couldn't get my points!! Management better start advertising for bartenders or retrain their staff to help out, because your not only going to lose bartenders... your going to lose customers. read more

This was an unexpectedly great breakfast place attached to the Holiday Inn. I was at there for eight straight days, so I have to tell you it was superb. Their omelettes were super thin and delicious everything including the hashbrowns was cooked perfection could not recommend it more. read more

The perks of this place is that you get some coupons if you stay at the Holiday Inn and it's a quick walk from your room. We went here about three times over one weekend out of convenience-- luckily my boss paid for it all! Every time the service was incredibly slow. The one time we went for breakfast some of the food came out very dry because it was sitting under a heat lamp so long. Another time we went there a waitress had to do our entire party of 20+ by herself. She was doing great. I asked her why some of the staff sitting around wouldn't help her and she said that they aren't very helpful unless it's their own table. I felt really bad for her. read more

This place is connected to the Holiday Inn. It has been completely remodeled in the last year. It is clean, crisp, and welcoming. The food tastes great. My brother had the fish and chips and said they were pretty good. They had a hummus plate and the pita bread was grilled! The breakfasts were perfect. read more

The cheese curds with Green Goddess dressing is to die for. They have risotto with scallops, which is awesome. They are coming out with a new menu I think soon. My husband loves their burgers. But the best part is their bartender named Amber. Oh my gosh guys, this lady kills it behind the bar. She knows what she's doing. Ask her anything, she will know it. From wines, to their beers to mixed cocktails she's got you covered. Never a bad drink with her. She's so nice and can keep up when the bar is busy. Has a great attitude and very funny. Listen up Marshfield, this is unheard of here to have such a great bartender who knows her stuff and can sling the drink better than any other bartender in town. She designs their drink menus. The food here is good however you need to set aside at least 1.5 hours if you want to dine here. Every time we have come here it takes 45 -60 mins to get our food. This isn't a 5 course type of restaurant so there is no reason someone should wait that long for their food. Staffing is minimal at all times which is my guess why it takes so long. Being attached to a Holiday Inn you would think you can fully staff this place at all times but I guess not. read more

We came here last week for a residency interview dinner after it had been completely remodeled. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to start which were all delicious - my favorite of which was the cheesecurds (of course, because it's Wisconsin!). I enjoyed the sirloin steak for dinner which was wonderful. For dessert I had the cheesecakes which are two little rounded cheesecakes and while they were good, I wasn't incredibly impressed. I wish I would have ordered the apple dessert because it was huge and looked amazing. The drinks were also good, and the server was friendly and very attentive and knowledgeable. Came here for dinner with a group recently. Service is excellent. The food is average. Got the chicken wings and those were pretty bland but the cheese curds were good! Had the caprese chicken sandwich which was decent. The best though was the dessert! The apple cranberry pie (?) which was nice and warm and came with ice cream. A must try! read more

Stopped here this morning for breakfast on a whim and was not disappointed! The staff was super friendly, our waitress was great as well. My wife got the cinnamon crunch french toast and I got the Packer skillet. Both were very good. We did not have to wait very long for our food either. The coffee was great. Drink was fine. But my food was 80% oil literally. I ordered cod fish which was not supposed to be fried. They deep fried it and put loads of oil and butter and cream on that. The rivers cheese curds are good and so is the grilled cheese. Its connected to the holiday inn, which is great for people staying there. I think the design is great, with the "fireplace" and the nice flowers up front. There is ONE thing, ONE thing. That is the fact that the bathrooms are outside of the restaraunt. Simply stated - I wasn't impressed. This was my first (and last) time here. We had a group of 6. There were only 2 other tables that had people at them, so it wasn't busy by any means. However, it took quite a while (30-45 minutes) to get our food. The burgers were "meh". Not all of them were cooked the same through (even though they were all ordered the same). The kids complained because the pizza was just a cheese pizza. The server argued and said, "well it states that on the menu". No - no where on the menu does it state that it's just a cheese pizza (it's only listed as Pizza). So she said that it was implied... ok then. After our bills were split for the group, our bill was $40 for 2 burgers and a kids meal (no drinks, etc.). I thought it was a bit high. I eat here frequently and have never had a bad experience. They new chef has done amazing things with the menu. The bartender LouAnn is always personable and fun to have around. Would highly recommend if you haven't been here in the last six months you give it a try. They have also been slowly updating the atmosphere and it has made a big difference. read more

It started off well. We were greeted when we walked in the door and immediately seated. Our waiter took our drink orders. We all asked for water and he returned with it right away. In a few minutes he was back to take our orders. Then the wait began. After about 20 minutes I flagged down our waiter and ordered a beer for myself and my daughter. The waiter brought them back, but no glasses, and didn't even ask if we wanted them. OK, I can drink my beer from the bottle, no problem. While we were still waiting for our food we saw a different server bring out a tray of food only to find that the customers at that table had gotten tired of waiting and got up and left. While we were waiting for our food, my wife asked the manager if they would honor a gift certificate that she had from the previous restaurant in this location. She said that they couldn't, but that she could give us a 10% discount. She returned with a card with the discount printed on it. When our food finally arrived, the waiter brought soups, salad, and entrees all together. We had all ordered fish, my wife and daughter had theirs baked, I ordered fried. The fish was very good. The twice-baked potatoes were fine, but they were obviously a mass produced, frozen product. My wife gave her coleslaw a try, and asked us to try ours too. The cabbage in the slaw had gone bad. We called the waiter over and told him about the slaw. He went back to the kitchen to tell the cooks about our concerns. He came back and told us that the cooks said that the slaw was just made "a few days ago." He asked if she would like a different one, and returned with another portion of slaw that obviously came from the same batch. When the manager walked by my wife shared her concerns about the slaw, and the manager said, "Oh, we use a ranch dressing in our slaw, so it tastes a little different." My wife, who has been in the food service business for 35 years, ensured the manager that she knew the difference between bad cabbage and ranch dressing. The manager took our uneaten slaw back to the kitchen, but that was the last we saw of her. Finally the waiter brought our bill. I slipped my credit card into the wallet with the 10% discount card that the manager had given us. When he brought it back, I noticed that the 10% had not been deducted from the bill. Too bad for him, because I took the 10% out of his tip. read more

So we have ~attempted~ to eat here several times, attempted meaning that we came in and despite the sign saying "open" and the doors being unlocked, NO ONE was to be found. So the last time we were there, which will probably be the final time, and someone actually took care of us-we were very surprised. Essentially my boyfriend and I are buying a house, we decided after a night of paperwork and BS we were going to go to dinner. So we came here. We almost left but someone finally came to take us to a table. This host, an older white woman with a medium length gray ponytail, would not stop hovering by us. But we hardly saw our server. The host took our drink order. I personally like a whisky old fashioned with a lemonade wash. So that's what I ordered. First of all, CARD ANYONE THAT LOOKS YOUNGER THAN 40. No one carded me. I'm 21, I should have been carded. Second, when the host relayed our drink order to the bartender, he scoffed and said "gosh who orders THAT." Umm, it's your job to make it. Not question it. No one else was there except us so I know he was talking about me. I felt embarrassed so I just kept quiet and I regret it now. As someone who works in the industry, I understand that sometimes things are timed right that it looks bad on the restaurants end, but criticizing and mocking the only customers drink order is beyond ridiculous.
