We were staying in the attached Cobblestone Hotel and enjoyed our dinner here. It's a relaxed sort of place, where you can "come as you are." A local friend had heard that their steaks are well renowned, but we opted for seafood to keep it light. Our Caprese Salad was so fresh and delicious. My favorite was the pesto on the fresh mozzarella. Mmmm. The lobster tails were juicy and well cooked, which isn't always the case in other restaurants. The calamari appetizer was decent, but I asked for parmesan for a richness factor. Out mushroom risotto was fabulous and massive for two to share. We found the service friendly and competent. Our experience at Wissota was somewhat a mixed bag. The interiors rather took us by surprise as we expected for a chophouse steakhouse restaurant to be a little more upscale particularly when we ordered a $70 filet. Also The decor was closer to an upscale coffeehouse. The staff was inexperienced in terms of handling Guest requests - there did not appear to be a manager on duty. The menus were photocopied menus that were unable to decipher because we were told also that they ran out of toner! Stayed at the Cobblestone Inn last week and ate at Wissota our last night. Excellent meal, wish I would've gone earlier in the week so I could have gone again. Stopped in with co-workers and we all started with drinks to study for work class, our server was very patient and just let us do our thing, think her name was Madeline. Ordered the 5oz filet, and we split sides of Brussels, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. Steak was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth tender, and so flavorful. Sides were generous portions and excellent. Also sampled a friends buffalo fried alligator, perfectly cooked and delicious for my first time trying gator. Decided to celebrate my Mom for mothers day a day early and made reservations through OpenTable. We arrived 15 minutes early fully expecting to have a wait for our table. To our surprise our table was ready! We ordered a bottle of wine and a couple apps to start! They had just run out of the calamari, so we went with the crab cakes inside. They were recommended by Annie, our server. They didn't disappoint! For our main meal we went with the lamb chops with mushrooms and caramelized onions, the onions were not caramelized. At best they were warmed up. The mushrooms were great! Lamb chops were also great, a tad bit on the fatty side. As sides the mushroom risotto was phenomenal! The brussels weren't as tender as I would have wished. They also tasted a bit bland. The strawberry tiramisu was more like strawberry short cake, couldn't really taste any coffee. Amazing service and food. Alysha was a great server, attentive, helpful and friendly - from her first offering of "flat water" to the wonderful desserts. I've always wanted to eat at a Chop House, but was always a little leary of the high costs. But this was a special occassion with three birthdays, and we were not dissapointed in any way. There was very little on the menu that I didn't want to try and everything we ordered was beatifully presented, excellently prepared and tasted phenominal. We started with the Pork Belly appetizer that was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful (reduced balsamic?) tang, the lobster bisque was the perfect temperature and to be savored as well as the mixed green salad that looked like a work of art. I had the sirlion tip steak with crusted blue cheese, my husband had the jumbo prawns (slightly tough), and the others had the Sea Bass and the Scallops. It was so delicious and beatiful to look at. We also shared the parmesan crusted brussel sprouts and the bacon macoroni and cheese - which were very generous portions. Then just to make it better, we each received a free dessert for our birthdays and sampled the raspberry tiramusu, the towering chocolate an the towering carrot cakes. The cakes were so large, that each of the 4 of us got a layer which was almost equivalent to a piece in its own right. Last night we had the pleasure of dining at the Stevens Point Wissota Chop House for the first time. We were well taken care of by our waitress, Ruth. She saw to our every need with thoroughness, a pleasant attitude and a smile. The food was superb! We were a little surprised that the restaurant was so busy for a Tuesday night but after tasting the food and experiencing the wonderful service, it was easy to see why. When we make our annual journey to Stevens Point, we usually eat at Muse, but since they were closed because of COVID, we had to look for something else. We warily opted for this place and were pleasantly surprised. The dining room was a little too dim for my taste, but outside of that everything was pretty awesome. First and foremost, they had beef marrow on the menu. Any restaurant that has this and can make it correctly automatically gets four stars. I'd ditch the chimichurri though. we shared a steak and their seabass. The seabass was probably the best thing I have eaten in a while, and even though the steak I ordered was perfectly made and seasoned, the seabass completely outshined it. The only downside of the dining experience was the bearnaise sauce. While they get kudos from obviously making it from scratch, the sauce broke, and it was a pain to have to stir is to try and keep the fat incorporated while I used it. The sheer disappointment of my wife's birthday meal will make us never go back . The medium rare 70 dollar steak,came well done and then took 15 minutes to replace (while my meal got cold). The attitude of the hostess was cold to say the least and no mention of any kind of restitution for this $150 bill. We did get a dessert but that was already included because of her birthday. We just had an amazing anniversary meal here! By far that best French onion soup I've ever had. Both the ribeye and NY strip steaks ordered were cooked to perfection. As our side, we chose the garlic and chive mashed potatoes that came drenched in drawn butter. My husband had enough room, or so her thought, for the chocolate cake.
