Very cute pub in a fairly quiet location, so parking was plentiful. Our waitress was okay but she didn't come around as often as we would have liked for water/refills. We went with an app of portabella mushrooms, a cup of clam chowder soup, and our entrees were the chicken Caesar wrap and the shrimp fry. The mushrooms were a mystery to us and we felt they should have been listed as mushroom chips, because instead of being slices they were super thin (more like shaved) so you didn't get any mushroom flavor, it was just batter flavor. The clam chowder soup was insanely bland, no amount of salt, pepper or crackers could save it. The wrap was the best thing we ordered; very delicious. The shrimp fry was just so-so, as the shrimp were small and the batter was thick so there again the batter overwhelmed what it was covering and I ended up peeling most of the batter off just to taste the shrimp. They have weekly specials and from what I can tell- they are awesome. Had the Friday fish special- chose seasoned (have 4 options)- nice pieces of haddock with a hefty helping of fries. A neighborhood bar and grill. One of the few places open in Stevens Point on Sunday night. My wife had a salad, very good. I had a grilled chicken, roasted red pepper sandwich. I loved it. Seasoned chicken and a ton of delicious roasted red peppers with lettuce, tomato and pickles. I tasted it and thought it was great. It came with potato salad. It was excellent. We enjoyed this new find while in town for a softball camp. They seated our group of 10 with only a 10 minute notice. Server was very pleasant! I ordered the FISH REUBEN. I know. I had never heard of this before. It had grilled white fish, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, ancho chipotle sauce... grilled on marble rye. Only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, even though it was packed. They had a large selection of local craft beers and made a good muddled old fashioned. The Mac&Jack bites we had as an appetizer came out fast and were delicious. We weren't too impressed with our dinners though. The perch fry was pretty standard and had a lot of breading. We came in expecting the items posted on Facebook to be in the menu. (They are not) Okay...so, we ordered some drinks & then ordered food. Played some table games. Still waiting... So over an hour later the manager (or whoever she was, she wasn't our waitress) came & told us they lost our ticket & our food would for sure be up next. A few mins go by, the table that sat down 15 mins ago gets their food! At this point we are done waiting & ask for our ticket to pay for the drinks so we can get sustenance somewhere else. Drink order of 3 came up to $18 & we didn't get a discount on that even. The manager at the bar says, "your Mac bites are just getting done, do u want to take them with?" Ahh no. Wow, it's been years since I've been to Point After.  When I was in college Point After opened as a non-smoking bar, which was unique as you could smoke in bars at that time.  Now you can't smoke in any bar, so I was wondering how unique it would be after all these years. I was in town and was catching up with an old buddy and he recommended because of their food. The space hasn't really changed at all.  Mid-sized townie bar, closer to a sports bar feel than a dive bar.  They do have a big screen on a wall which is perfect for playing sports games.   I asked the server if they play movies...that would be a fun way to draw in people. My buddy was so right about the food.  It's typical bar food with your burgers, sandwiches, and salads, but with a twist.  I got a salmon BLT on a focaccia bun...YUM! The salmon tasted fresh and complimented well with your class BLT ingredients.  BONUS was the bistro sauce to dip your sandwich in. My buddy got shrimp tacos and was tempted to take one for myself! He also mentioned their Friday Fish Fry is solid.   When in Stevens Point, I love treating myself to Central WI craft brews like Point Amber, Central Waters Mud Puppy Porter, and Oso's Hopdinger!  If they don't have it on tap, they will have them in bottle or can. So I was in paradise for a couple of hours with good food and beer, and would consider stopping here again when visiting my alma mater. read more

Found this solid little stop off in Steven's Point for a quick bite and a drink through none other than the oh-so-freaking helpful YELP APP. (Seriously. It's so useful. I'm not just saying this because I work for Yelp, either. Elevate yo' game, you guys.) Venturing north post-Friday workday means some serious hunger sets in just around the 3 hour mark. It also means that you don't get your post-work week victory brew, because the first thing you do is hop in the car and get on the road once home. RIP workweek victory beer. This past weekend, we went all northern Wisconsin, which is something I love to do from time to time. Sure, it's a bit of a trek, but the beauty of the northwoods, the nature, the people, the spirit... it's all just so... good. Also, we were on a mission to check out a northwoods wedding venue, so: two birds, one stone, one weekend road trip. (Luke always drives.) Lucky for us, we were able to snag some solid bar eats and a few beers in the heart of Steven's Point, not far from a friend's campgrounds we were visiting that night. Central Waters on tap amongst a few other craft choices, stuff in bottles, bottles on rails, bottles on the bar... it's pretty standard insofar as booze. The food is pub fare, thoughtful, with salads, wraps, sandwiches, and lots of apps. Their signature snack seems to be deep-fried portabella mushrooms; it had little stars all around it on the menu. We did not partake. Fish fry was solid enough and my salad was a salad. The food was good, the service friendly - lots of college kids working - and the price was right. Pro: Better than chain restaurant food at reasonable prices. Con: Seating is limited. I came here on a Friday night with some co-workers. The drinks and fare were priced just right. Food was amazing considering it's bar food. My husband had the Heartattack burger and Fish Fry because he couldn't make up his mind. I had the pulled Pork on a bun. You get to pick your sides: beer battered fries, kettle chips, potato salad, or cottage cheese. Most of the food are greasy but it's a good greasy, yummy in the tummy, goodness. I love the portions too. It's a lot of food for the price you're paying. The waitresses were attentive through the night. It's noisy but again, this is a bar. You can find people of all walks of life here: college students, families with young kids, grandparents, working people, etc. Location is easy to find. We reveled in the Friday Fish Fry at the Point After. The Haddock is cooked perfectly and is available in two battered options (seasoned breading or Beer battered) and two broiled options (cajun spice or lemon dill). You get four choices of potato (potato salad, beer fries, kettle chips, or potato pancakes) with marble rye bread and cole slaw. I'm a fan of potato pancakes in most instances, but favor the fries here. The dining area is VERY family friendly and when its full, you can wait with a game of darts behind the bar area. The haddock portions are small (four 2-ounce pieces) so order an extra basket for the table if you're party has hefty eaters -- or try one of the appetizers. Choose a bowl of their clam chowder and you won't be disappointed. It's also no coincidence that homemade old fashioned's are available for $2.50 (on special) from the bar. Do fish fries in Stevens Point get any better than this? Our group agrees that this is the best Fish Fry we've had in Stevens Point in our year-long search. read more

Went here for a cold beer on a sunny summer day. It looks dark and closed from the outside but it is open. It's a nice casual place with lots of wood and old glass colors. I had a craft beer with hop in the name I can't remember and it was good. The young woman was very on top of things and when my beer got low she asked if I wanted another, I like when I don't have to get someone's attention for another drink. I was driving so I couldn't stay to long. First impression it's a nice neighborhood bar and grill. It was too early for dinner so I can't comment on the food. Nice place. The good; decent and somewhat more creative than average bar food. The not so good; Small portions (think a 4 piece fish fry is a single piece of fish cut into fourths) to the point where it almost made me laugh out loud...and not in a good way. A small (single) rail old fashioned on fridays is $4. Double the price of many other bars in Point on friday, for you value shoppers you may be well advised to go else where. The wait for food after ordering was long well over a half hour and they weren't terribly busy. All that being said the quality of food and drinks is good for a bar but the overall value is mediocre. read more

My wife and I were visiting the area and decided to give this place a try. After reading the reviews we could tell it was just a bar so we expected bar food. When we showed up the place was nicer the what we expected, they had a bunch of TVs, a big bar, and a nice size dining area. We seated ourselves and our server showed up promptly. Neither my wife and I were overly hungry so she had the hangover fries and I had a southwestern chicken sandwich, both were very good. They have thinner fries which is my favorite. We also had the broccoli cheese soup which was not bad. We really enjoyed this place and would return in a heartbeat, they had a bunch of other things on their menu we would love to try. read more
