We have been getting food at this restaurant for a couple of years. I've never been disappointed with the quality, quantity or cost of the meals we've had from Ambrosia. This restaurant is quintessentially small town. It opens for lunch and gets the local traffic throughout the day. It's not fancy but it is a good watering hole and offers a pretty broad menu. The staff does a great job on social media; so you always know what is on special. The last time I was in, I went with a standard burger and tots. Everything was right on the money; tasty and hot. You'll never leave this place complaining about skimpy portions. While I'd like the staff to be a bit friendlier, they always seem to be busy and I'm not a local. I definitely won't let that keep me away from good made-as-you-wait food at reasonable prices. read more

Yikes! If you've ever eaten a rubber fish or chicken tender and loved it, then this place is for you! I don't know how you can get fried fish and chicken to be so difficult to cut and chew. Whatever their trick is, I wish they would stop. Accompany the meal with desiccated baked potato and ice cold beer cheese and you've got the makings for a really bad lunch. We used to like this place. Not sure where it has gone, but we apparently scrape below the bottom of the barrel. Will not return. read more

Due to Covid-19, we have decided to do a pick-up order and not eat in. I've only had Ambrosia's from company events who have catered from them. So I've never purchased direct. It was a 20 minute drive from where I am but I wanted to support a local organization. My phone order went smooth. The person on the other receiver suggested their daily special, which was not on their Facebook or website. I thought that was a nice gesture. When we arrived, they did not offer curbside pickup. We had to go in to obtain our order. No one wore masks. Literally no one except us and the employees. People sat talking, drinking, and eating within 6 feet of each other. The establishment is small and people were packed in. It seemed like a locals gather here often. We ordered the broast chicken (which came with a side of choice potatoes, bread, and a side salad), fried perch (which came with slices of bread, a cup of soup, and choice potatoes), with an order of onion rings. The chicken is as expected and juicer than what we've eaten from company gatherings. It's disappointing that all the food were rather bland. It needed more seasoning to bring out the flavor. I felt like it was on purpose because their customers must love sauces. Therefore they depend on the sauce to make the food taste better except no sauces were given except for tartar sauce for the perch. Not even the onion rings came with a sauce. The soup lacked flavor. It was like meat boiled with vegetables and served with a tiny pinch of salt. I would love to try the foods again. Perhaps post-Covid if that day ever come. I think there are tons in their menu I'd like to try and give another chance. read more

We were passing through on a Friday and decided to try this place. We previously attended a function which they had catered, and were impressed with the food. It looks like a typical small town corner bar from the street. Inside, it felt like a neighborhood bar. Once past those enjoying a brew and the pool table, we came to the dining area where a few couples and family with tots were enjoying lunch. Large fish selection with huge portions without tourist prices. We chose bluegill, cod and perch. The meal comes with homemade soup or salad, rye bread, and choice of fries, wedges, baked potato or tater tots. "We don't do small," our friendly, attentive server said when we commented on the portion size. This local hangout is the perfect example that an unassuming place can have fantastic food and great service at very reasonable prices. We will stop there whenever we're in the area. read more

My wife lives during the week in a nearby town and I have the chance to visit periodically. We' heard good things about Ambrosia but hadn't gotten a chance to try it. With two visits in the last week we're fast becoming experts. It's a charming spot on the main street of a charming small town. Friendly staff. The diners all seem to be locals. My wife had the fried chicken which was great. Sides were large and tasty. Everything is made from scratch and it shows. I had a burger which was good and the fries are perfect - no coatings, nothing fake. Just real potatoes fried to perfection. Portions are large so plan to take food home. Prices are too good to be true - at least for city folks used to paying city prices. read more

the fish fry is amazing - one of the best and we eat out at fish fries up north at our cabin for comparison - the soups are homemade and i wish they would have a soup buffet. my only complaint is i wish they would offer more than one soup at their mother's day buffet besides chicken dumpling each year. read more

I'm a "local", so Ambrosia is always on my list. The owner is a hard worker and takes care of both customers and staff. A small, but nice, selection of beers on tap...like from nearby breweries. Their pizzas are super and I especially love our favorite thin-crust-w/black olive order. I'm not much of a buffet-guy, but it's nice and it sure is popular. See you next week. :-) read more

Our best meal in Wisconsin. The broaster chicken was one of the best fried chickens ever. It was just so juicy and it tasted like actual chicken (keep in mind that I'm not coming from broaster territory). The fish fry is every day, and the blue gill also had great flavor to it. Our other item was the cheese and broccoli fried things, which were also great. Considering that our entire table was full of shades of brown, next time I'd go for something not french fries as the side. Speaking of, it's interesting how they serve homemade fries, frozen fries, and chive fries... So, if they make homemade, why would anyone want anything different? That must mean that frozen are better, right? Well, yeah sorta. The frozen are crispier but comes with some moral baggage of buying the frozen... UNLESS maybe they freeze it themselves?? How could that be? Well, anyways, I would travel 45 minutes to come here. I'd get the broaster, fish fry, any appetizer, all the soups, maybe a steak and a burger. Cole slaw for the side. Beer. The Ambrosia steak sandwich as recommended by our server Asha was excellent! They always have one Central Waters beer on draft. The chive fries are very good, one order between 2 people may be enough for most. This is a great place to stop for a bite before or after a trip to Central Waters Brewery. read more

I''ve been here on many an occasion, when I come into town for work. It has a good hometown atmosphere that is rare these days. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Many of the dishes on there menu are Fantastic... There Chicken, and Steak dinners in addition to many of there Sandwiches and Burgers all excellent. The Fried foods are good but honestly many of them it's hard to go wrong. However there Pizza needs work, the Dough tastes like it is pre-made store bought ( should probably go with DeGiorno) and Sauce has no flavor. So with that in mind I recommend next time your in Amherst, Wi... check them out you'll have a good time. read more

A decent place to stop and have a drink and get a bite to eat. We only had a cocktail and an appetizer after visiting Central Waters Brewery down the road. We had the sampler platter which was perfect. Our bartender Amy did a good job of taking care of us even though she was busy. Based on the menu and atmosphere it seems like a good option for a Friday night fish fry or steak dinner on a Saturday. Looking forward to an opportunity to go back and try a full meal. read more

There is nothing special here vs any other Wisconsin bar that serves fried food. There are so many other wonderful places to eat in WI. I had the broasted chicken - it was good but not great. I've had their salads at a catered event and they were awesomely good. So went finally last night for fish fry (cod). Fish was fresh and flaky, whether fried or grilled. Large portions. Yummy tartar sauce. Homemade french fries good. Cole slaw and potato salad far far far above average. Warning: if you order the nachos appetizer you'll get enough for six people! Great local place to eat in Amherst, WI. Food is very good and affordable. Wait staff are always very friendly and accommodating, although there is a long wait for food at times, particularly Fri or Sat evenings, but its well worth the wait! Love to see an upgrade to the TV's, which would make this an option on game or raceday. read more

Service could be better. I heard wonderful things about the food and was greatly disappointed with my own meal. The meat was like left over meat that had been left out on the stove overnight uncovered. It wasn't dry because it was burned but because it was old. It tasted like it was not warmed up enough in the microwave, and certainly wasn't cooked on the grill like it should have been. The service was slow as well, we weren't asked about drinks for at least ten minutes after we sat at the table by the bar, and had to notify the bartender ourselves. The bar was certainly not busy by any means. This was on a Saturday night at about 8pm, well past the dinner rush. The one redeeming quality was that our drinks were comped, so that was nice of the waitress. I will not be coming back again. read more

We didn't initially plan to come to Ambrosia. We had a bad experience elsewhere and this place had decent reviews and was not far from highway 10. Service was great, which earned the 5th star. Love this place! The food here is good, I especially enjoy their daily special 1/2 lb Angus cheeseburger. Really good pizza as well!
