    Flipper basket barbeque

I stopped by for a quick lunch. Everything was super quick here. Order was taken fast. Food was delivered right away. Bill was settled and we were on our way quickly. Fish fry was my favorite item here. I went for a side of fruits, which as real fresh. Flipper basket was my other item. That was good as well.

    Incorrectly made Strawberry Walnut Salad

Have been an enthusiastic customer for YEARS. I grew up in the area and have always loved coming to hilltop. After the introduction of a new strawberry walnut salad a few years back, which I fell in love with, I had developed a tradition of coming to eat that salad every birthday. I would get it really any chance I could, it even won out over their chicken flippers. Well today 7/5/26, I ordered that same salad and it came out to our table made completely different than before. Normally this salad consists of fancy salad mix (only greens, no other veggies or iceberg lettuce), strawberries, walnuts, blue cheese, and chicken with lemon poppy seed dressing. It normally is a very tasty salad that I get without blue cheese. The only edits I have ever had to ask for, was the blue cheese to be withheld. Today it consisted of some cheap salad mix of shredded carrots, shredded cabbage, and iceberg lettuce. Not at all the same taste or lettuce that the salad had before. I took a few bites but very quickly noticed the difference. We had a large party seated all eating, with a few of us ordering salads, and it was also the day after a major holiday. I thought they maybe used the wrong salad mix in mine and brought this up to our server. He went and checked with the kitchen staff and came back to inform me that his manager will be coming to speak to me and correct any errors or answer my questions. (When they need to send a manager to the table, that should have been my first clue that something was about to go wrong) When the manager came to our table, I voiced my questions about the mix used and was informed by the manager: "I've worked here for twenty years and in those twenty years, this salad has been made exactly the same." Immediately started blaming me for not understanding that I should have asked for that salad to be made with a different mix if I didn't want the cheap mix they served me. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE MADE WITH THAT MIX IN THE FIRST PLACE, but how is a customer supposed to know that "salad greens" as listed on their specials, means a mix of other veggies, when that is not specified?! I normally would not make a stink about food in general as I am pretty understanding but this is a $16 salad that I get on special occasions only -because it is 16 DOLLARS FOR A STINKING SALAD. I asked for the manager to either comp it off the bill and take it back, or to fix the salad. They didn't seem keen on either of those options, but seemed to be very pushy that I was incorrect and should basically just eat the food as is. The entire interaction with this manager was unprofessional, blame filled, and quite frankly put a sour taste in regard to ever eating here again. If I could give less than one star I would. The manager and apparently even their higher management doesn't seem to actually take criticism. They seem to just blame the customers for any bad experiences. Take a look at some of the other negative reviews they've received and their responses. Goes to show that they are more than happy to take your money when things go right, and even more happy to take your money AND blame the customer when things go wrong.

At the end of a conference, we wanted to relax and have a final reward in Stevens Point. I chose Hilltop. Drinks, food, and service were great. My prime rib was spectacular. Mt wife loved her shrimp. My captain/coke was made as if i were in Cozumel. Next conference, we'll be back.

Bad bar food in a cozy atmosphere. Nothing more, nothing less. We came because it had higher than average ratings for being a bar and grill. Let me start on a high note saying the service was great! Also nice selection of local beers on tap. Here comes the down side... I should've known when the food was coming out of the kitchen so quickly that it wasn't homemade. We started with cheese curds with a dill ranch, which was good. Nothing out of the ordinary, but still decent. Next my partner ordered a cup of chicken dumpling soup, which was broth and OK, but you could've gotten it from a canned soup as well. Therefore, I think that's where it came from just a can nothing spectacular. Next we shared a brisket sandwich, which was on a great fresh pretzel roll, however, there was no smoky flavor in the brisket and it was fatty. Basically disgusting, don't order this maybe there's something better on the menu we missed. We were going to have dessert but after having such bad food, we decided to forgo it and got a candy bar at the gas station on our trip back to home. If you're looking for great local beers, check it out can't say that it's the only place in town, but it's still cozy in here and the service was good. However, just not good enough to come back too.

Sunday was the second time visiting the Hilltop Pub & Grill in Steven's Point. The first time was a couple of years ago. Both times, the food and service was very good. Hilltop has a very unique atmosphere. Upon entering the building, the foyer is large whiskey barrel turned into a small, round room with a door to the interior of the restaurant. This let's you see how think such a barrel is. Throughout the entire restaurant, The walls are covered in pictures of old community activity. Some of it looks like pictures of newspaper article. Probably most are reprints or pictures of pictures. Still, it all gives the restaurant a very woodsy, nostalgic vibe. We all various custom sandwiches with either the kettle chips or home fries. The Mushroom Swiss, Black & Bleu, and the Chicken Parm sandwiches were tasty, even as leftovers. It was a chilly day, and the coffee was made fresh for us... Twice. I guarantee we will be back!

Went here on Sunday 3/21/2024 @ 11:30am(St Patrick's Day): Went here for the first time to meet a friend. It got busy fast. We got a table right away and took our time. Place had extra employees on staff to wait of people dining in. Love the lay out of this place. If sports is your thing, they had plenty of tv's in the bar area. They had great specials. I got a crispy chicken sandwich and fries. Very good. Hot and fresh. Staff were all friendly. Our waitress did a great job. It was very kind and professional. I would recommend this establishment. They also have seating outside for when it is nicer out! Until the next review, Steve-O, out!

Final Score, more like final hell. We'll go with the four innings…read more.. Establishment is adequate. Chairs & tables are decent, though some tables needed to be balanced. Atmosphere is younger crowd, waitstaff are definitely college girls with some old man that I can assume was the owner would pop back behind the bar often. Plenty of tv's for sports games also have a pool table and darts. I'd say it's your "Average Wisconsin bar". We ordered a Bloody Mary with Tito's & Virgin Mary. However, we were informed that they pre-make their mix with rail vodka. I asked if there was a possibility to make one separately and again was told they premade the mix. I asked if it was possible to get a Virgin Mary, she said yes. They were the BLANDEST lackluster tomato juice drinks I've ever had. They both were garnished with a damn near frozen beef stick, sad spear of pickle, soggy mushroom, Peperoncino and olive. The actual Bloody Mary had very little (if ant) vodka but did come with have a chaser. We ordered a 14" pepperoni pizza and a chicken club. I was informed that I couldn't substitute or change my fries to cheese curds (even though there are other items listed for up charge sides on the menu) so I went with fries. It was a subpar frozen pizza, the chicken is a frozen bought flattened piece of meat on some limp lettuce & the driest bacon I've ever had (McDonald's bacon is better). The fries were not seasoned and had to ask twice for ketchup. We also ordered another Bloody Mary but asked if it could be made separately with Tito's or Grey Goose (both of which they have on hand). Same response as previously "it's premade mix with rail vodka" so we asked for an additional shot. The 20somethjng chic brought us the drink, abruptly put it on the table and walked away. No interaction, no garnish & no chaser! We weren't asked how everything was, had to flag down the staff for the check. We stated that she can take the second Bloody Mary off as it wasn't good. She immediately popped off with "I can't do that, you special ordered it". I asked her if the bartender was incompetent of making a Bloody Mary & that's why they did premade drinks she said it wasn't me that made it. Now she was visibly defensive, had a horrible disposition. I pointed out we didn't want to pay for the drink as it wasn't the same as the first. No garnishes & no chaser, why would we pay MORE for it when we got less. She stated she didn't understand where we were coming from. Left and returned with a cup of garnishes & a chaser and said "there! Now you have everything." This is NOT customer service, this is NOT rectifying a situation. I would NEVER step foot back in this establishment.

We sat down and waited a considerable amount of time for our drinks. 10 minutes maybe. When we got our order in, it took about an hour to come out. Our waiter told us pretty much as we got our food that there was a wait because a big party decided to order a lot of food. I do not think it is fair to make a two top wait as long as what seemed to be a ten-twelve top to get their food. Those people were comfortable and (really loud...) and happy to sit and chat while my partner and I were already itching to leave thirty minutes in due to the noise... we got our food and luckily it was good and we wanted to order more but truly we decided it was not worth the wait due to all the people and fear of having a wait again. We promptly asked for the check so we can leave and go to Culver's. I would have appreciated a heads up about the wait as soon as they figured it would be a while. Not a minute before we received our food. I get that things run behind but they didn't look short on servers based on the space. Someone should have told us a lot sooner. And the noise, man... there's a point where you gotta tell people to quiet down.
