Best pancakes I have ever had i normally don't eat pancakes but didn't feel like eggs

South point is cafe style dining with an open concept. New owners keeping the traditional home cooked menu! Lots of choices to choose! Desserts looked wonderful, unfortunately not enough room to trial. We also had breakfast, with no pictures! This is a must every time we are in town for the iola car show! If you want a bowl of soup after some day sipping, come on down. The atmosphere is smokey though, and the cleaning hasn't been great...but if this is your only option it's worth a shot. tl;dr Mediocre greasy spoon. My first Yelp letdown. I was headed up north and needed a break for food. Looking at Yelp reviews for things in the area, that wouldn't be too busy on a Friday night, brought me to South Point. It's a vintage (and dingy) 24-hour dinner with counter service and decent (sorta) prices. I arrived around 5pm and was able to snag a spot at the counter. Service was fairly quick. I ordered the tuna melt on rye with "cottage fries" and slaw, as well as a strawberry malt. From my view at the counter, I could see directly into the kitchen. The formerly white walls in the kitchen were a weird tinge of yellow, with dirt around all the edges. I tried to move past that. Don't even get my started on the disgusting closet they call a bathroom. The food (see photo): The swirl rye bread looked great, the tuna salad inside, not so much. It was crazy dark in color, and I couldn't see or taste the usual celery, onion, parsley, etc., that is standard. The slaw was your basic creamy slaw, nothing to write home about. The strawberry malt was made only with strawberry syrup, not actual strawberries or strawberry preserve. They did provide the stainless steel cup to eat the extra out of though, some kudos for that. The cottage fries had the most potential. They are rough cut potatoes that are boiled first then fried for a crisp exterior, but they lacked any seasoning, leaving just a bland taste that even ketchup couldn't help. My meal cost just under $11. Not exactly as cheap as the reviews claim to be. But hey, at least they did have a Yelp 10% off offer... I won't be back. read more

This is the most authentic and enjoyable diner in Stevens Point. The South Point is small, often crowded, and a bit dingy. It's not the type of place my wife likes to visit. However, it's one of my favorites. You can get breakfast at the South Point Diner (aka "Restaurant") anytime -- and I mean anytime. It's open 24/7. Their Eggs Benedict, only available on weekend mornings, is served with hash browns. It's affordable and fabulous. The Diner offers many breakfast options, including pancakes that I can use to lure my daughters with. I don't know much about their lunch and dinner menus because I always order off the breakfast menu here. They always have a great selection of pie, tho. Good value. No frills. Service is often friendly. Sometimes grumpy. South Point will fill your belly without setting you back. No credit cards or pretense here. Don't be afraid to sit at the counter. read more

Deserves zero star. We entered and they didn't give us a menu. They looked as us like "What the hell are you doing here?" I'm serious. No credit card. No playing games. No laptops. Those were the words plastered on their wall. They have an ATM but I'm not sure of the charge. The place reeks of old people and coffee. I popped in for Prime Rib on the weekend and got an awesome cut of meat with baked potato for $16. The atmosphere is greasy-spoon old-time small town diner and all part of it's charm. I love good Prime Rib and I love a bargain...how can I give them anything less than 5-Stars? I'll be back the next time my Chinese wife and I are up that way. I concur with a previous reviewer, they are not racist, nor are they agist, anti-disability, or anti-anything except for rude patrons. The staff will treat you the way you treat them, so don't treat them like they owe you something, and they'll give you great service. Here's how professional the staff are: we brought a group of ten to the restaurant, by accident (we didn't know our friends were bringing friends), and we neglected to call ahead. When we realized how many people would be at our table, we informed the restaurant and apologized for not giving them notice. They not only accommodated us by pushing many tables together, they waited on us and got every order correct, without indicating they were annoyed or anything! Exceptional value for my two breakfasts. Fast, friendly service and the food was just great. Portions, cooking / preparations all 'as expected'. Pancakes weren't 'box' and held up when cutting. This is definitely one of those local hang outs you go after bartime, or when you don't feel like cooking, or paying much. The food is decent. It's simple. I wouldn't take a date here or anything, but hey. The only complaint I have is the staff. There is one dark haired, tattooed waitress who has gotten my order wrong the last 4 times I've been there, and another, who I believe is related to the owners, who has an attitude and is quite unhelpful. When we arrived place was full. Service was ok. We ordered breakfast however took 50 minutes to get our food. The pancake, which I guess they are known for, was dark and gritty tasting. Everything else we ordered as average at best. We're from out of town and watched others who arrived after us get served before us. Maybe if your a local it's a great place to eat. Oh God help us. Wasn't able to stomach much of this food. Staff was unsure what us young hell raisin' whippersnappers were doing in Their Restaurant. It's a classic old style diner which I like, I ordered the Ruben and when it comes to food and how fast they are it was great, I was actually surprised by how fast they were and the food tasted great. But where it's lacking is it's customer service. When about to pay the check the waitress rudely took the check as well as the money right from my hands before I could get to the cashier. Plus when I examined the receipt they made a rude comment towards me "silly but" that I was appalled by. But the food was good just don't expect great customer services when your there. read more

After hours of pouring over the dictionary and multiple thesauruses, I am able to confidently state that there are no words in the English lexicon that can adequately describe this fine eatery. The second you enter you will be given immediate clarity as to the feelings Alice had when she fell down the rabbit hole in Lewis Carroll's classic, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. When you cross the threshold you will wait for the hostess. There is none. You will stand patiently awaiting your destiny. However, it will not arrive until you walk four paces forward. From there the woman behind the bar will greet you and ask you the question that will change everything: "How many?". This is the exact physical location where everything you were, everything you are, and everything you will be shall become one. She -like Charon the Ferryman of the River Styx- will guide you to your seat. Immediately you will notice the so-called "dingy" atmosphere, but I question the sanity of those who deem it as such. Those who find the emotional history and culture of this establishment to be upsetting or even "gross" certainly lack any modern sense of aesthetic judgement. The yellows of the once white walls in the kitchen, visible to almost all tables, are not dirty but entirely enchanting. They are reminiscent of Van Gogh's Sunflowers, or Rothko's Orange and Yellow. The eagle wallpaper and patriotic motifs around the dining area inspire an undeniable feeling, whether of fear or national pride, that creates a satisfying element of unity. But the most magnificent decor of all lies in the Bacon Corner, adding a touch of sophisticated humor and a niche practice of interior design that certainly only the most refined could appreciate. The feng shui in this place is undeniable. It will make you wonder, is this what Pop's diner from Riverdale would look like if it was set in the Twilight Zone? The answer is yes. Euphoria will overcome you as you'll begin to weep. Do not fret young one, it is merely a part of the process. Finally, the food. Those who have left previous Yelp reviews that deem the cousine at South Point as nothing more than "a cheap greasy spoon" must have laughably unrefined pallets to make such assertions. Upon your first bite, you will feel transcendent. By the second bite you will reach total enlightenment. You will attempt to take your third bite but will realize that you have succumbed to the sin of gluttony and have already eaten the remainder of your meal. As you conclude your eating experience, the tap water will coat your tastebuds and act as the last chapter to the most satisfying novel you have ever read. You will grab your things, you will walk out, if you're inebriated you may trip down the stairs, but inevitably you will leave. Stevens Point has changed with the passage of time, yet against all odds Southpoint has withstood it's tests. You will look up at the marquee in awe as it reads "meatloaf" or "open 24 hrs" and be struck by it's eloquence. Let it serve as a poetic reminder of the time you spent at South Point, of the person you once were, and the person you have yet to become. I recently paid this place yet another visit in my holiday travels. the food and the value are just as excellent as ever. I know the place is old, very old yet. Yes, it is showing its age, but on my recent visit, this place was just really dirty. Maybe it was just bad timing on our visit, but the floors were trashed and wherever you looked, it just looked unkempt and dirty. Since I have been a LONG time customer of this place, I am NOT going to write them off because I like the food and the service is always very good. My boyfriend and I will never go here again. I smile and I am polite to the ladies there. I WAS a frequent customer. I ordered a meal there on my way out of town and my waitress forgot to ask me what kind of bread I wanted with my meal (the meal did not say anything about bread so I did not know). when my meal came out they gave me white bread. I am not a fan of white bread but I wanted to keep it for the birds. I asked the lady for wheat bread and she took the bread I had and threw it in the garbage. She gave me a rude look and did not serve me any longer, I didn't bother giving a tip and I will never enter the place again. The lady had dark hair and tattoos. read more
