Tuna melt on rye with cottage fries and coleslaw.
Erik E.

tl;dr Mediocre greasy spoon. My first Yelp letdown. I was headed up north and needed a break for food. Looking at Yelp reviews for things in the area, that wouldn't be too busy on a Friday night, brought me to South Point. It's a vintage (and dingy) 24-hour dinner with counter service and decent (sorta) prices. I arrived around 5pm and was able to snag a spot at the counter. Service was fairly quick. I ordered the tuna melt on rye with "cottage fries" and slaw, as well as a strawberry malt. From my view at the counter, I could see directly into the kitchen. The formerly white walls in the kitchen were a weird tinge of yellow, with dirt around all the edges. I tried to move past that. Don't even get my started on the disgusting closet they call a bathroom. The food (see photo): The swirl rye bread looked great, the tuna salad inside, not so much. It was crazy dark in color, and I couldn't see or taste the usual celery, onion, parsley, etc., that is standard. The slaw was your basic creamy slaw, nothing to write home about. The strawberry malt was made only with strawberry syrup, not actual strawberries or strawberry preserve. They did provide the stainless steel cup to eat the extra out of though, some kudos for that. The cottage fries had the most potential. They are rough cut potatoes that are boiled first then fried for a crisp exterior, but they lacked any seasoning, leaving just a bland taste that even ketchup couldn't help. My meal cost just under $11. Not exactly as cheap as the reviews claim to be. But hey, at least they did have a Yelp 10% off offer... I won't be back.

This is the most authentic and enjoyable diner in Stevens Point. The South Point is small, often crowded, and a bit dingy. It's not the type of place my wife likes to visit. However, it's one of my favorites. You can get breakfast at the South Point Diner (aka "Restaurant") anytime -- and I mean anytime. It's open 24/7. Their Eggs Benedict, only available on weekend mornings, is served with hash browns. It's affordable and fabulous. The Diner offers many breakfast options, including pancakes that I can use to lure my daughters with. I don't know much about their lunch and dinner menus because I always order off the breakfast menu here. They always have a great selection of pie, tho. Good value. No frills. Service is often friendly. Sometimes grumpy. South Point will fill your belly without setting you back. No credit cards or pretense here. Don't be afraid to sit at the counter.

Full house on weekday AM.

Exceptional value for my two breakfasts. Fast, friendly service and the food was just great. Portions, cooking / preparations all 'as expected'. Pancakes weren't 'box' and held up when cutting. Sausage and chopped steaks were big and really good. It was a full house on a Fri morning, and quite noisy with the regulars. After hours or early AM, I'd be a regular if I lived in Stevens Point!

Great food at reasonable prices. Not a great place if you want pristinely kept ambiance. This is a local favorite. Stopped here on our way north. Liked it so much, we stopped again on our way home. Saw some of the same locals eating there. We even took home a gallon of their Chicken Dumpling Soup. It will continue to be our lunch stop each time we head north.

Very cute little restaurant. They're inexpensive and fairly tasty for the price. I've never had a bad meal there.

The staff was consistently cleaning, restocking and keeping everything cold and fresh- we loved their offerings and was happy to have made the choice to add to our meals. We arrived prior to our reservation, so we sat at the bar while waiting and frankly that was the best part until a bartender stuck a glass into the ice well and broke said glass, then picked some ice and presumably broken glass out. I can say that after watching Bar Rescue since season one I was at a code red upon witnessing that, but my husband that works in food/bev service who abides by the protocols for said circumstance was horrified and literally stopped getting anything that required ice after seeing they didn't empty the ice well and clean it out before replacing glassy-icy with fresh ice. Then we were taken to our table and encountered our poor waitress, Tiff. She had tables in sections so far away from us--separately partitioned sections but also a separate room. Service was horrible, but she was spread so that thin it was clearly an owner/manager problem (as the other two waitresses we saw were never in the other sections, yet she was at close to a run between the three). Sky Club could have at least had bussers clearing the courses, but instead our table was a wasteland of glasses, bowls, app plates and main course plates. And I'd be embarrassed to claim my place had the first salad bar in the US if it was a disaster of mayhem regarding both order and produce. It's only a salad bar, no soup, yet plates were around the entirety of the baby salad bar. People kept grabbing one of the myriads of stacked plates and cutting in at nonsensical points. There were spoiled grape tomatoes and broccoli heads, huge partial heads of lettuce, yet no cottage cheese??? The beef stroganoff had overcooked pasta, the beef and mushrooms were indistinguishable from one another, and there was not enough "gravy" (that's what their menu called it). Prime rib was gray and bland. Shrimp was bland. Salmon was bland. Mac & cheese was dry and bland. There were five of us, and the only thing that was truly enjoyed at any point was the French onion soup. We wanted to order more drinks and planned on having dessert, but due to how thin management spread Tiff, we basically prayed to baby Jesus just to get our bill. Shame on the owners/management! She was literally running, while older waitresses with a handful of tables were lounging. Teach the old ones to buss tables. This is not a good look for Sky Club. Not only did you lose money on food & drinks with mismanagement, but out of all the supper clubs in the state, we never want or plan to return again.

The staff were as friendly as they can be and made us feel like regulars, regardless of it being our first time in. We visited for a late breakfast with multiple kids (4 years and younger). The staff kept all the adults caffeinated and went above and beyond to make sure the kids had a great experience! (Ie, making sure they had drinks, plenty of napkins, and ever some cookies after they ate) The food was all very good! The table got a verity of options and all plates were left empty. You can really tell that this dinner puts in effort with their food. They even offered numerous HOMEMADE baked goods like breads, pies, cakes and cookies that's to their on-site baker. I will be returning to cozy kitchen in the future whenever I am in town visiting family. I highly recommend you visit if you're looking for someplace cozy to eat.

Solid breakfast- eggs cooked just as ordered- no complaints. Love a runny egg- and dip their homemade toast in it- yum! Mexican scramble was tasty - chorizo not greasy. Hash browns were nicely crisp on outside- and plump inside. Nice portions- in our minds. If I could give it 4 1/2 stars- I would. (And you might run into UWSP hockey players at breakfast!)
