Not a lot of places open in Marshfield on Sunday night or Monday night. I went both nights. I had steak and shrimp on Sunday night. I was a little leery about getting a steak at a bar and grill, but it was quite delicious. It was a lot of food for a very reasonable price. Nice selection of beer on tap and in bottles. They have some nice bourbon there as well. They have an incredible tap handle collection. It's almost like a beer. Tap handle museum. It looks to be fairly freshly renovated inside. Clean modern bathrooms. Friendly service. TVs. Decent food. I'll be back.

It's a lot more roomy than you think. On the walls there's a lot of sports paraphernalia and a huge wall of beers that they offer here. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap. The chicken was nice and crispy fried and I ordered onion rings with it because I do like the fries, but I really wanted something else. I also had a seasonal beer. I am honestly not sure what it was called, but it was amazing very flavorful and perfect temperature. My kids had two burgers and chicken tenders, which were all very hot and well-made. I do appreciate that this place had cups with lids on them since it made my kids drinking experience a lot easier on them. Overall, very clean atmosphere, fast service, and great food!

The wings were on special the day I visited. They were fine -- hot and crispy, but almost to the point of overcooked and dry. Things were fine overall, though. The beer was cold and the banter kept my mind off the less-important things. There's definitely a community here. Parking isn't all that great, but that's a good reason to forego driving and be a passenger if you plan on spending any time here as you probably will.

This is the easiest review I've ever had the pleasure of writing. Simply put, Jack's is EXACTLY…read morewhat you'd expect in a smallish town in Wisconsin like Marshfield, whose main charm is it's townies, quaintness, and propensity to belly-up and have a good time. Where to start? How about the bartender, Mark. This guy is hilarious. Wry, witty, cranky, effervescent at times, brooding at times, observant, helpful, can "take it" and "dish it" ... hanging with people is his calling, clearly. I live in a college town, a SOUTHERN DRINKING town, and in my 10 years there I've yet to come across a bar tender as cool as this guy. If you go, call ahead and see if Mark's working the three-sided bar. Make fun of his midwestern accent and the fact that his girlfriend is the bar owner's daughter. Tell him "that's convenient, bro." Watch him glare at you and then barb you right back with playful banter. This guy needs to take his Marshfield charm to a big city some time ... people would LOVE him at a cool dive bar in a city: you know, the ones where folks know each other and you get reasonable drinks without a bunch of bs. Oh, and play dice with Mark. You'll lose and buy a round, but he pours 'em like a champ. Great guy. Okay, in the South, we rarely have things like PBR and High Life on tap. They do. And it's $1.50. I just got back from Manhattan where a PBR was $11 because the hipsters have co-opted our blue collar birthright of PBR for $.75. Jack's has the working class swill down. Bring a 20 spot, leave happy. The draft High Life made me think I was working the dairy farm or lumber yard or scrap yard. Just down-home BEER. Nothing fancy. Relaxed and cool atmosphere ... as an out of towner I was happy to see all the Brewers and Packers and Badgers stuff all over the walls. There were Brewers games on the two tvs the two times I visited. GREAT music that ranged from classic rock to some 80s to some outlaw and popular country. They played "Sweet Home Alabama." I'm from Alabama. I rocked out like a frat boy to an AC/DC song about some shlocky topic. I think they have darts and I saw some gambling machines. So, there's that. I was too lazy to walk over there. Don't say "Go Bears" as one of my friends did. The darned needle nearly scratched off the record, if you know what I mean. I bought a Jack's hat. Call me a tourist. But I **had** to remember this place. If I'm ever back in Marshfield (maybe likely because I have friends there; maybe not because it takes two flight legs and a 3-hour drive in a rental car to get there) I will camp out at Jack's. If you're a local, you know what I'm talking about. If you're a visitor, do not pass Central Ave ... go directly to Jack's and pretend to be a midwesterner (don'tcha know).

A few months ago, I found myself traveling from San Francisco to Marshfield on business (who knew,…read moreright?). Anyway, by the time I flew into CWA (Central Wisconsin Airport) and drove to Marshfield, I ended up at Bey's Bar, which turned out to be just the perfectly unassuming Midwestern tavern that I expected to find in what may be the friendliest city in Wisconsin. Our host, Dave (who was also the owner), treated my co-workers and I to the perfect combination of hospitality, entertainment (which included Dave's masterful playing of the stump fiddle) and $1.25 beers. By the time we stumbled out of Bey's that night we felt like we had made more friends than we had back home in Cali. If you ever find yourself in Marshfield, Wisconsin, do yourself a favor. Shoot a couple games of pool and have a couple of beers at Bey's. Get to know the locals a little bit. Chances are you won't find a more geniune and comfortable American pub in whatever city you come from.

You will always have fun there, socializing with friends, making new friends, and enjoying a perfect night out. When me and my guest came there, we were served right away. We ordered food, then looked around. The place is very clean, very well organized. We saw the outdoors attractions and decided to go out there and also have our food served outside. The patio deck is excellent and we went to the Tiki Bar and saw all the attractions around the bar while listening to free music on the outside jukebox. I'm pretty sure it used to be Italian, And before that it was something else, but it does seem to have a new name every time I check into the attached Holiday Inn. Tonight's issue was all on poor management! Maybe I should change that to terrible management.... Hope they make some improvements or the restaurant will be a Tex-Mex or Asian theme the next time I come to town! I checked into the Holiday Inn and wanted to get a decent meal. Decided to give The Rivers a try. It was a pretty busy Thursday night, almost all the seats at the bar were occupied including a large party table with 8 guests. There was some kind of event going on in the banquet hall in back and the dinning area was a less than half full. I did find a seat at the bar and immediately noticed the poor bartender was overwhelmed. Not necessarily because he was a bad bartender, more because he just didn't have any help. I wasn't really in a hurry so I decided to stay. During my time at the bar I watched as waitresses came in to order drinks, and not even think to help. I also saw a guy that I'm going to assume was the manager come in to get some change for the back room party bar... and also did not offer any help. The bartender had to serve drinks and food to everyone at the bar, including the group of 8 at the party bar. The waitresses would come in with the food, but only stood there until the bartender came and got it from them.. gave no thought to actually serving to to a customer to help out. In fact when my food came in, I actually had to tell the waitress twice that it was my food before she reluctantly served it to me! They were also out of glasses at the bar. The poor bartender had to individually wash each glass as it came in so he could refill it! He also ran out of $10 bills, so anyone getting change got multiple $5 or singles! There were also a number of times that overflow guests from the back room decided they could come up and get drinks quicker at the bar. They were even coming up for water!! Poor bartender... Poor customers like me who's drinks were empty forever as the bartender washed a dirty glasses to fill them with water orders for the customers from the party in the back! Unbelievable! The food was okay. I had the Double BLT. I like it, except the toast (bread) had a little too much garlic. I also ordered their special Brat Cheese Soup (Which came out well after my meal... instead of before). When it did come out it was still warm, but it had that film on it that comes from sitting under a heat lamp waiting for one of the waitresses to remember to bring it out! The soup was a very salty, but I did like it. Oh yeah.. one more thing that ticked me off! Even though they are a Holliday Inn Restauraunt, their system is not set up to charge your bill to your room, which isn't that big of a deal. But I'm a IHG Point collector so I couldn't get my points!! Management better start advertising for bartenders or retrain their staff to help out, because your not only going to lose bartenders... your going to lose customers.
