Lunch Creek Vineyards and Winery - Winter in the vineyard

Lunch Creek really impressed me! Friends live nearby and said the owner decided to turn the family…read morefarm into a vineyard, only using grapes grown in WI. There's a small tasting room, and a lovely outdoor space perfect for pleasant days. Everyone has their wine preferences so YMMV. There are roughly 10-12 options and most are on the sweeter side (those are just the grapes that grow here). You can do a tasting of 5 for $10 - a great value. They have a special of 2 glasses of wine, a block of cheese (Sarvecchio!) and a box of crackers for just $22. Outstanding! The staff is super friendly and kind too. Two thumbs up!!

Listen... this is the BEST kind of winery…read more Plastic cups for tasting. Local radio station playing. Aerial shots of the farm from 20 years and 2 years ago. A million news clips on the wall and tables with a view of the grapes. Very friendly owner who stopped to give us a rundown of every wine, before going out to mow (in the rain!)... and truly excellent wine. For context: We really like wine and have been to Napa and Sonoma, but also have had a LOT of wine from Michigan and Indiana. We prefer dry, but Midwest is known for sweet. We found these whites to be VERY good. Most grapes used here were engineered at the University of Minnesota--varietals like Frontenac. The wines are hard to describe... and come at every level of dry/semi/sweet... with a special character that is different from your standard Riesling/Traminette. We walked away with four bottles: Itasca, St. Pepin, Brianna and Bashful Blonde. (In the winter we may have made different choices) If you are looking for a spot that is 0% pretentious and %100 excellent... this is it. We will be back every summer.

I ordered the chicken tenders and the person with me ordered the brie platter. Both were amazing. My chicken tenders were some of the best I've ever had. I don't know what they used in the breading, but it was excellent. I tried a tasting of the sweet wines and love the blackberry wine and the peach Chardonnay. They also have outdoor seating. We did sit inside, if you're up in that area definitely go check it out.

Both the wine and the chocolates were very nice. We wound up buying a bottle of the Tuscan reserve to take home with some of the chocolates we couldn't finish. After a rest we came back for dinner at the Granary Bourbon bar. We were warmly welcomed. We liked the casual vibe and surprisingly it was not too loud. We started with a flight of old fashioned cocktails. We tried vanilla bean, honeycomb, and our favorite the cinnamon appke. For dinner we both had the Friday perch fry. The perch itself was very good with a nice panko coating. The fries were good too but they could have been warmer. Our server was very attentive and friendly. They were definitely on the game. Can't wait to return!
