Simply put, Jack's is EXACTLY…read morewhat you'd expect in a smallish town in Wisconsin like Marshfield, whose main charm is it's townies, quaintness, and propensity to belly-up and have a good time. Where to start? How about the bartender, Mark. This guy is hilarious. Wry, witty, cranky, effervescent at times, brooding at times, observant, helpful, can "take it" and "dish it" ... hanging with people is his calling, clearly. I live in a college town, a SOUTHERN DRINKING town, and in my 10 years there I've yet to come across a bar tender as cool as this guy. If you go, call ahead and see if Mark's working the three-sided bar. Make fun of his midwestern accent and the fact that his girlfriend is the bar owner's daughter. Tell him "that's convenient, bro." Watch him glare at you and then barb you right back with playful banter. This guy needs to take his Marshfield charm to a big city some time ... people would LOVE him at a cool dive bar in a city: you know, the ones where folks know each other and you get reasonable drinks without a bunch of bs. Oh, and play dice with Mark. You'll lose and buy a round, but he pours 'em like a champ. Great guy. Okay, in the South, we rarely have things like PBR and High Life on tap. They do. And it's $1.50. I just got back from Manhattan where a PBR was $11 because the hipsters have co-opted our blue collar birthright of PBR for $.75. Jack's has the working class swill down. Bring a 20 spot, leave happy. The draft High Life made me think I was working the dairy farm or lumber yard or scrap yard. Just down-home BEER. Nothing fancy. Relaxed and cool atmosphere ... as an out of towner I was happy to see all the Brewers and Packers and Badgers stuff all over the walls. There were Brewers games on the two tvs the two times I visited. GREAT music that ranged from classic rock to some 80s to some outlaw and popular country. They played "Sweet Home Alabama." I'm from Alabama. I rocked out like a frat boy to an AC/DC song about some shlocky topic. I think they have darts and I saw some gambling machines. So, there's that. I was too lazy to walk over there. Don't say "Go Bears" as one of my friends did. The darned needle nearly scratched off the record, if you know what I mean. I bought a Jack's hat. Call me a tourist. But I **had** to remember this place. If I'm ever back in Marshfield (maybe likely because I have friends there; maybe not because it takes two flight legs and a 3-hour drive in a rental car to get there) I will camp out at Jack's. If you're a local, you know what I'm talking about. If you're a visitor, do not pass Central Ave ... go directly to Jack's and pretend to be a midwesterner (don'tcha know).

I was a little leery about getting a steak at a bar and grill, but it was quite delicious. It was a lot of food for a very reasonable price. Nice selection of beer on tap and in bottles. They have some nice bourbon there as well. They have an incredible tap handle collection. It's almost like a beer. Tap handle museum. It looks to be fairly freshly renovated inside. The chicken was nice and crispy fried and I ordered onion rings with it because I do like the fries, but I really wanted something else. I also had a seasonal beer. I am honestly not sure what it was called, but it was amazing very flavorful and perfect temperature. My kids had two burgers and chicken tenders, which were all very hot and well-made. Apparently the weather this morning wanted me to see that this new establishment in Abbotsford had…read morejust opened. So I was excited to try it out on my way home from work tonight. Tonight being the 2nd night that it has been opened. When we walked in we noticed the changes of the past owners immediately. It was clean, completely remodeled, and nicely laid out. So excited a place like this has moved into Abbotsford. Something the area really needs. We were greeted immediately by our server, and got to choose where we wanted to sit. There was plenty of seating to choose from so that wasn't a problem. After we sat down we noticed all the large screen TV's they had displayed all over the seating area. Also noticed all the beers they have on tap. I enjoy a good sports bar so all of this was a nice perk. We were given our menus, our drink orders were taken, and we ordered the This N' That Variety Basket to get things rolling. It wasn't long later that our drinks were brought and our variety basket showed up. The variety basket was cooked properly and looked delicious. I love a good variety basket. The mixture of what was in it was all wonderful. The only complaint I have for it is if I'm going to pay $10.95 for a variety basket I want it to be worth $10.95. I'm not saying it needs more of a variety...it has that with deep friend pickles, broccoli bites, popcorn chicken, mac-n-cheese bites, deep friend green beans, onion rings, and more, and a very small amount of fries. Maybe you could include more fries to make it worth the money you are charging for it? Maybe check out some of the variety baskets and there prices at other establishments in the area that cost less than yours, but are larger and cheaper than yours. Our server (Dakota) was very attentive to all of our needs. He refilled our drinks, made sure we got the condiments we wanted, and cleared our plates after they were empty. Parts of me thought he was trying too hard as he continually came by to ask if we were okay a lot, but then again I would rather have a server that is over attentive than not at all. For our main meal we ordered the Hickory Burger & Cowboy Burger both with fries. Both of our burgers were good. I loved the BBQ sauce and the fact that there was real bacon on my Hickory Burger. My boyfriend liked the bun that his burger came on, but said it was just another burger for him. I however will defiantly order the hickory burger again because of the BBQ sauce. Again, not many fries on the plate. So I didn't leave completely full like I had anticipated, but the food was good, and I will come back again. I loved the atmosphere of the place. Was there two weekends ago guys started to get crazy and the owners friend went up to them and walked them out and said they were done!! Love that they watch this place! Hate paying a babysitter to go out to deal with drama!!!!! And better yet they have free pool from 6-10 and a foosball table we love this!!!
