Omg, how has this place stayed in business. I called ahead because my mom recently had knee replacement and was using a walker. What a disaster. It took forever just to get the attention of anyone for help once we got there. Even after getting in the place we waited at the host stand for about 25 minutes along with several others. It was crazy how they literally ignored us all. It wasn't even that busy. We ended up walking out. The waitresses seemed embarrassed. Shame on them. The food did not look impressive anyway. Who doesn't love a Wisconsin fish fry, but on those Fridays when you don't feel like fighting the crowds, Riverstone is such a nice change (although they do have their own fish fry) I've been there numerous times to celebrate or chill, and enjoy the varied menu selections. I don't think there's another restaurant in the north woods that has butternut squash ravioli! Not a fancy palate? - they have delicious burgers as well. Last night was no exception - Ron, the owner, greeted us as soon as we walked in, and our server, Olivia was friendly and efficient. Perfect way to end the week. read more

Might be the worst place I have been to in a while. The wait was 30 minutes. Literally every five minutes someone would stop by and say "someone will be with you in a minute". The mistake was waiting. After waiting another five minutes at the table was told by the waiter after I ordered the fried chicken that they will not make fried chicken on Friday nights because it takes too long. What irony I waited 35 minutes and they would not make my order because it takes too long. Save you time and look elsewhere. read more

Unbelievably long wait for our food. After a 45 minute wait for a table, it was another 20 minutes before a waitress identified herself to us and took our drink order. Probably another 10 minutes before she returned and took our food order. We sat there for a good 30 minutes before we ever saw her again and got to ask her for a basket of bread. All told, it was three hours before we finally got our meals, and she knew it was a problem, blaming it on the kitchen. The food was overpriced, and the risotto was gummy. Most restaurants will apologize or offer to comp a meal or make some amends, but not here. We will never go back there. read more

Not worth the effort. After a 15 minute wait when the restaurant clearly wasn't that packed, we dealt with a waitress who took 20 minutes to serve cold soup, 10 more minutes to microwave it after sending it back (btw, I was shocked she presented it like it was a new cup, when you could clearly see the missing cheese on top where I took my first bite earlier), then finally being served 10 more minutes later a meal which can only be described as lukewarm and adequate. Of course when she gave us the check she was checking 30 seconds later, then again 1 minute later. Summary: there are simply much better restaurants in the area. The food isn't even remotely good enough to be worth the time, price, or aggravation. Go to White Spruce or White Stag instead, or if you want Mexican, Victor's or Autentica Cocina. read more

I recently went to Riverstone with friends for the brunch buffet during a long Labor Day weekend trip. The eight of us were seated right away and had Paula as our server. Not only was she incredibly friendly and welcoming, but she took our made-to-order omelet and pasta orders quickly and efficiently. The food - the brunch buffet and the dessert buffet - was absolutely delicious and it was our best meal in Eagle River! If I ever go back, I will definitely visit this place again. read more

Had high expectations of this restaurant from talking to other tourists, and it did look nice. But I can't in good conscience give a high rating. We arrived, it was crowded, and we expected a wait. An hour and 15 minutes later (In Wisconsin?) we were finally ushered to a table. We ordered a round of drinks, and then ordered dinner. It was a full place, but not overly so. And there were two cooks in the kitchen. Even so, we waited well over an hour before dinner was served, and my grandson was very hungry. My soup was served well before the meal, and since the plate was warm I expect it sat under a heat lamp for quite awhile. No one came with an explanation or an update on status of our meal during this long wait. By the time we got served, almost every table had been emptied. Food was not very good. I had the prime rib....pretty simple. But it was very rare and, big sin, almost cold. This meat needs to be served hot, right off the grill. Salad was nothing special, and no one at the table gave the food an acceptable rating. Bottom line: Pretentious restaurant, and way too expensive given the poor service and poorly prepared meal. Find someplace else that takes reservations. This place doesn't. read more

Totally overrated. The drinks were fine but the bartender could not identify Irish whiskey from American. The server had no interest in us, especially as we watched the other servers graciously attend nearby tables. He practically dumped our food at the table and walked away before we could even ask for anything else. The wine flight had four terrible choices and he never offered to replace any of them. When our food finally arrived my butternut squash ravioli with Wisconsin blue cheese and walnuts came swimming in a soup-like sauce with no walnuts. Ten minutes later when the waiter returned he asked how it was and I told him. He offered to bring another dish but we had waited so long it was not worth another wait. He then brought the same dish another customer ordered to show me that hers looked similar. We asked for the check and he had not removed my dish from the ticket. The owner then processed our bill, never asking how our evening went, and mentioned being overwhelmed by the "camp families" that made it so busy. I said "lucky you for such a busy evening" and he made it very clear he did not feel fortunate at all. Can't wait to let other camp parents know they are not appreciated at RiverStone. read more

My family and I came to Riverstone to celebrate; I'm glad we did. Our server, Desiree, was funny, honest, quick, and professional. She was attentive and provided suggestions for pairing when we ordered. Our meals were served quick and of appropriate temperatures. The menu offered a variety of options for the heavy meat eater, to a light salad and/or soup. The restaurant and experience were great, but I really came here to write about their salmon and risotto. A-MA-ZING. It's the second time I've come here specifically for the salmon, and it won't be the last. We go here with our family every year and it is an enjoyable time. With us is our cousin, who is in a wheel chair and they are always very accommodating. This is not your usual Northwoods supper club. It is mid to high scale dining with an outstanding wine list. The food I've always had was good and the service was friendly and helpful. We go back every year and will continue to do so. Overall, good place to go with a large group, great wine selection and a good fine dining experience. read more

Literally probably one of the WORST restaurant experiences I have ever had. We had a function for my husband's family there a few weeks ago. There were about 16 so not a huge group. We were in the private basement area. The service was awful. Our glasses and plates were piling up in front of us. Servers would walk away with empty hands. The food wait literally took HOURS. Salads took over an hour to come out. Appetizers even longer. Some came out over a 1/2 hour after others. When we finally got our dinners, only a few actually got them. My husbands didn't come out until after everyone had finished and we finally gave up and had birthday cake. I asked to speak to the manager. He came down and talked to my mother in law. He actually had the nerve to throw the server under the bus and say she didn't put the order in, although we saw her write it down. Apparently it was ok that it took 2 hours for everyone's food? I told the server I was the one who wanted to speak with him. He never came back. I had chicken fajitas. Literally the worst I've ever had. I only ate them because I was so hungry. The chicken was disgusting. It clearly was the chicken meat out of a Tyson bag. I have had years of restaurant experience including serving, bartending, and management and these employees were clearly not trained. When we arrived there was no one else in the restaurant. It is no surprise that this restaurant has deactivated their ratings on Facebook. Here's another little tidbit-the next day, other members of my husbands family went to an ice cream/hot dog place owned by the same people. The same servers were working there. The same thing happened. No one got their food in an appropriate amount of time and some didn't get their food until after the others were finished. read more

We weren't sure where to park, there were cars in what looked like someone's yard, so we parked there hoping not to get towed. The ambiance of the restaurant was "nicer" than the average diner. We got sat at a table by the window so we could watch the boats go by and people fishing. We ordered our food from a nice waitress, she was courteous enough after I asked for a gluten-free hamburger bun if it was ok that she bring out regular bread for the table. My husband ordered the veal Wellington, I ordered a hamburger. The hamburger was dry, like it was a prepackaged frozen patty that was thrown on the grill. Not very good, I don't recommend getting it. My husband raved about the Wellington and asparagus, he ate it so fast, I barely got a bite! We ordered dessert after I got tiramisu and my husband got creme brûlée, both were excellent! My husband was wishing for a cup of coffee to go with his dessert, I'm not sure if they had any. I would go again, with how good the Wellington was I'm sure the burger was just an aberration. read more

Had a fantastic dinner here with my husband and daughter. Tried two different soups; both were great. I had fish fry - beer battered haddock was very good. My husband enjoyed veal Wellington and my daughter had fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Creme brulee and chocolate cheesecake with raspberry sauce were delicious for dessert. Service was amazing. I first went here a year ago--thought the food was good quality and very fresh. Subsequently returned and always rang up big tabs of 70+ for 2 people. Loved that they had a gluten free menu--a rarity in the northwoods. Well this time around we went on Sunday evening, 1/2 hour after they opened. It was not busy and I noted waitstaff standing around the bar. Great! No wait...wrong! So we are the only ones standing there and the disheveled host (he may be the owner/manager) completely ignores us for about 10 minutes. Okay.....so we try to get his attention and he hands us a filthy little vibrating box and tells us it will be 15 minutes. Empty tables everywhere. We ask him what the hold up is- and he says there are simply not enough servers to handle all the tables...umn WTF?!?! Tons of empty tables everywhere and servers standing there doing nothing. Ok--so I was a server in my past life and at times I had 10 tables at one. You really had to make us wait when clearly these servers had time on their hands. I doubt the owners up north read these things because they are stuck in the dark ages. If you are really set on going here--get here before it opens and wait--perhaps you'll get seated. Horrible!! Will never give my money to this place!!!!! read more

This is the best restaurant within its 50 mile radius... maybe more! We eat here at least twice per month, usually more often than that. I think we've consumed the entire menu over the years. And it's all great! The setting is outstanding. The wine list is amazing. The menu is varied and offers something for everyone, from meat lovers to vegetarians. I have never experienced anything but outstanding food, wine and service at the Riverstone. The owner is always on site and does all that is possible to accommodate whatever your party requires. White tablecloths with a friendly atmosphere. Can't even believe how lucky we are to have this establishment in the Northwoods! read more

This was my second time visiting Riverstone. The first time was over a year ago, it was very busy and after waiting over ten minutes attempting to get a drink at the bar, we left. Their menu looks amazing so tried again last night. We were seated right away but sat and waited for one of the many staff members to take our drink order. Another table was seated 5 minutes after we were and a server took their drink order before anyone came to our table. We waited 5 more minutes before moving to the bar, thinking we would be served sooner. The shrimp appetizer at the bar was delicious but service was not very fast. The bartender never took our order for meals when he did come around and the drinks were very weak. Was disappointed and don't think third time is a charm. read more

Had dinner early on Saturday evening. The hostess was very friendly and we had a nice table overlooking the river. The food, however, was mediocre and rather expensive since the menu is all a la carte. The Caesar salad was passable but the restaurant charged an extra $2 for anchovies. The walleye was only fair and at $26 for only the fish, wild rice mix and 3 spears of asparagus was over priced. There was some good bread but no relish tray found at most establishments in the area. Although there are a limited number of better quality restaurants in Eagle River, you can do far better in the Northwoods! read more

Terrible management. I can't even comment on the food as we didn't get the chance to eat anything. Our reservations were in August, which I know is a busy time in the Northwoods. We also had a party of 8 which I also understand is larger than normal. We waited for over an hour for food. We had been talking and hadn't really noticed the wait, but once we did, we flagged our waitress who honestly did the best she could and we appreciated the effort she made to help us out. We waited an additional 30 mins and received nothing. People all around us were getting served food--mainly people who had arrived well after us. We asked for the manager, who refused to apologize and cited that the kitchen "was slammed." We were extremely kind and understanding, but after about 2 hours we finally were forced to get up and leave as we received no updates on our food or indication there was concern at all over our wait. Again, I'd like to say that our waitress was great under the circumstances. We are reasonable people, but the unapologetic nature of the management left us was a poor taste in our mouth. Eventually, we payed for the couple of salads and drinks we had been served and and headed over to Alexander's for pizza. Unless there is a management change, I wouldn't be heading back there anytime soon. read more

After a decent experience the year before, we decided to return to Riverstone the next year. We come up from Chicago every year for Eagle River's pond hockey tournament. We had called in ahead asking if they can accommodate 20 people. The woman on the phone said that should be fine, giving us two tables of ten! Not a problem, this was excellent news for us! As we walked into the restaurant, they were NOT READY FOR US. We waited a half hour for ONE TABLE, then another half hour for the other table. That's not even the worst part. Here's the thing, the waitress took our order immediately, and another half hour later our 2nd table had ordered. Perfect. Well...... Not really. This was the only time we had seen our waitress within an hour and half. Every time we had to walk up to the bar in the other room for WATER!! This was unacceptable. Finally, we found some random waitress and asked where our food was. All she said was how busy it was. Well... Wouldn't you know the 2nd table of our company was served their food first, even though they ordered a half hour later. We have had enough... We asked for the manager. The actual owner came to our table not even giving us a chance to talk. He kept telling us, "this is not mcdonalds" which we didn't really understand. The waitress came over afterward and as we confronted her, she was extremely rude and ignorant. Finally, after a total of 2 hours after ordering (which I'm surprised we decided to stay) our food came. It was bland and terrible. Our burgers we ordered were rock hard, which makes sense because our waitress didn't even ask how we wanted it cooked! As we asked for the owner yet again, he proceeded to come back to us and continue to not let us talk. The management continued to not listen to us, yell at us, and we walked out. We would recommend everyone to stay away from this place from Monday through Sunday, if you have more than 2 people with you, and if you want a decent meal! Trust me, you will not miss anything. The owner was right, his restaurant isn't McDonalds, because Mcdonalds has nicer staff and better burgers! I would rather go to Alexander's Pizza in Eagle River ..... You'd at least get service and some pretty good pie. read more

We were here on a busy Friday night. Staff was scurrying around. We felt fortunate to be seated without too long a wait. Menu has an interesting variety from sandwiches and salads to fancier dinners. Large wine and beer selection. Vegan choices. My husband enjoyed the walleye which was lightly coated and pan fried, served with wild and brown rice mix. I went with the veal wellington which was a wonderful puff pastry filled with tender veal, mushroom pate and a soft cheese. Paired with the Yukon mashed and fresh crisp green beans. We just returned from a rather disappointing dinner at the Riverstone. It was a special occasion (anniversary) and we had dined there many times before so we had every expectation that it would be the right way to celebrate. Wrong. Having checked Yelp we saw that several recent reviewers had complained of very long waits. We are used to variability in service during the high tourist season in northern Wisconsin so we did not make much of it. Hey, you are no hurry so no worry, right? Again, wrong. Riverstone does not take reservations, so when we were told at arrival it would be 30 minutes, no problem. It was actually a bit less than that. Meanwhile we enjoyed a decent veggie/hummus as appetizers and a couple well prepared cocktails. The time from order to served meals was in excess of 45 minutes. At least three tables that were seated after us were served before us. When we finally were served my wife's pork with squash ravioli was very good. My planked salmon was fair, though somewhat overdone and dry. At $34 I had higher expectations. The accompanying risotto was gloppy thick and overpowered with cheese. The mixed steamed vegetables we both had were ok if bland and unremarkable. But here's the thing that added insult to injury. Our waitress, Melissa, neither explained the special for the night nor offered dessert. No problem. But after we had waited the 45+ minutes to be served, and while we waited 10 more for our check she spent 5-10 minutes in conversation with a friend/customer as we sat just wanting to leave. She offered no apology when I finally went to her to say we were finished and would like the check. I don't like giving Riverstone three stars. It is a nice place with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a very accommodating owner. Hopefully tonight was an exception, but I will be hard pressed to recommend it unless it improves on our next visit. read more

We had our "last night at camp" celebratory dinner here this past weekend. We had seen great food reviews, so thought this would be a good way to say goodbye to Eagle River. Most of our dinners were great. Our service started out somewhat poorly, on an uncrowded evening- I think our waitress was somewhat new, as she didn't have great answers to our questions. She took our drink order and disappeared, and took her time to come back and take our dinner order, although she seemed busy with her 2 other tables (but the other waiters seemed less stressed with more tables). Once our dinner order was placed, service got much better, and it felt like we got more attention. Two of our party had the Walleye, that they raved about. They also loved the Wisconsin wild rice. Two of our party had the stir fry - the chicken version was cooked with teriyaki that was not to anybody's liking. The shrimp version was much better, especially since it was ordered w/o garlic, and was still tasty. The pork tenderloin was okay (a little dry) but the accompanying butternut squash ravioli with apple cream sauce was phenomenal! The final dinner was beef with a cheese sauce and wine sauce split in the middle - more raves! Final blueberry cheesecake was sublime. So our rough start ended well!j read more
