Moondance is a northwoods bar & restaurant on the shores of Mill Lake in the roaring metropolis of Sugar Camp. (Don't blink when you hit the edge of town or you'll miss it!) Picture windows overlook the lake. The building masquerades as an upscale restaurant in the heart of the northwoods, but don't be fooled. It's a great restaurant with moderate pricing! It has separate menus for lunch and dinner, and another menu for weekends. Homemade soups are excellent. I was there for lunch, sandwiches were reported to be excellent by members of my group. I had a deliteful cream of mushroom soup with huge chunks of mushrooms. Reports are that Moondance has the best fish fry in Upnorth. I can't vouch for that - yet, anyway, but I do plan on getting back to try it, and soon! read more

A Northwoods gem. Definitely worth the drive. We had cheese curds and a rich, creamy, smoky salmon dip to start with. For the main course we had the ribs and walleye. The ribs were tender with a mouthwatering delectable homemade barbeque sauce. The walleye was perfectly prepared and sensational. One star for terrible service tonight, bumped up to two stars because family tells me the food is good and service is usually fine. Tonight we had a group of 13. Three in our party arrived ahead of time and told the restaurant (twice) that there were 13 of us. When the full party arrived, about 25 minutes later, we were told they could not seat us until 9, and that they closed at 9, so they couldn't serve us. It was the Fourth of July weekend, so of course it was busy, and not being able to seat us is not the issue. The issue is that the first arrivals were not told that they might not be able to seat us despite knowing the time and size of our party. Had we known, we could have begun making alternate/backup plans. Very disappointing! read more

The BEST fish fry in the NORTHWOODS!!! Friendly and clean. Yea, you are going to wait, but you wait everywhere. We went in with a group of 7, probably waited over an hour, but they had a lot of large groups. Had great bar service with great drinks. A beautiful view of the lake. This is our go to place for prime rib, burgers, fish fry and fried shrimp meal. They have fish fry even on Thursdays. My dad loves the perch. My mom and I love their fried (huge) shrimp. Prime rib is very good. The black and blue burger is awesome with a side of Kentucky boubon sauce to put on the burger (it isn't to dip your fries in!). Substitute their onion rings. Yum. Haven't had anything here we didn't like. Lots of local décor on the walls. Make the trip to Sugar Camp and try it for yourself. Nice locally owned family restaurant that offers a good friday night perch/haddock/cod fish fry. Can also seat larger parties maybe up to 10. Like many other places in that area, they make a good Old Fashion too. Worth the visit, but would be nicer if they accepted Amex. read more

I went here last night with my mom because we wanted to try somewhere new in the North Woods. Food was good (solid burger and the fries were nice and hot) and good service, it probably helped that it was a little slow. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, mostly locals. We went for the Friday fish fry and were glad we did. My wife had the fried perch and I had the broiled haddock and we both like our entrees A LOT! Spotted Cow was $3.50 a pint and the food was served quickly and politely. The view was nice and the place was clean. The only reason that I didnt give 5 stars was that the parking lot was a sheet of ice that wasn't salted or plowed. If you go when it's warmer, there's outdoor/ lakeside seating. read more
