Ambiance was fun and although it is a tiny place with a lot of locals at the bar, the vibe was cool And inviting to us as passers thru. All we heard from our local family was that we needed to go. So the day we were leaving we made sure to hit up the place as we left town. Bartender was an interesting character. Seemed unfriendly at first, but then warmed up and we were bantering in no time. Although I still got a weird vibe from him. I will say this, he made a bang on spicy bloody Mary and it is by far one of the best I have had in years! But last weekend I was talking to the "owner", having a civil conversation and I guess I said something he didn't like and he kicked me out. Terrible experience. Bartender was a total Jerk. Stopped here on a small bar brawl with a group, was told I was annoying and needed to hurry up when trying to decide what shot to buy the birthday guest. Then I went to close my tab (which was written on a post-it note) I was charged $37 for 4 bottles on beer. Had my Fiancé go and ask how much a bottle of beer is, said we got 4, the bartender said 4 beers is $37 and refused to say the actual price. Would not recommend or go back! read more

My family has been to this bar; however, I've never been there. I always run out of time on my visits to Minocqua. I planned to visit on my next trip. The Little Brown Jug is close to our home so I can get a gauge on its business a few times a day as I return. I can tell you the place is packed almost every day with what appears to be very happy patrons.. Oh how I love Little Brown Jug. Our family likes to bar hop while boating across Lake Tomahawk. LBJ is by far my favorite stop. The vibe is much more relaxed than at the more touristy hot spots. Signed dollar bills coat the walls, left by customers that want to leave their mark on this unique bar. The lighting is dim, but there are Christmas lights that add charm year round. The bathrooms are tiny, but the whole bar is tiny. Everything is always very clean. They don't allow dogs inside, so my family usually takes turns using the bathroom and ordering a drink to take to the outdoor seating area. The outdoor seating is great! Lots of shade and festive lights (for nighttime) and plenty of tables. Yesterday a deer came walking up about 6 feet from our table! We watched her walk around for awhile, it was awesome. The mixed drinks are dangerously good! Doubles do not taste like doubles (not because you've been shorted, but because the drinks are super well made). The lemonade they use as a mixer for lemonade cocktails is delicious. Complimentary pretzel twists are great. Love this bar! read more

Bartender Blaine(i think) was great and friendly. The atmosphere was tons of dollars all over the place, Christmas lights, outdoor seating, and literally ice their white claws. The bar owner's GF was less than friendly. I get tourist can be annoying but give us a chance. Stop here for a classic dive bar. read more

Probably a firetrap due to the amount of currency stapled to the walls and ceiling but this small hole in the wall churns out some great drinks. We stopped in twice during a Winter weekend and had a great time. Yes, this place is tiny and fills up quickly but I was impressed with the selection and quality of liquors they had in hand. Special props to the bartender who made a great bloody mary and passed us the celery salt to add to our liking (a vital but oft missed ingredient). This is the best bar in Minocqua! It's located pretty much right on Lake Minocqua's north end. Inside, it's TINY and the roof seems to be caving in but don't worry about that--just grab a shot-- Lots of Locals, laid back bartenders and free flowing shots will guarantee you'll have a "GOOD TIME"!!! Never will be returning. In the north it is important to uphold the standards of the year round customers. This bar has proven to adjust to the younger, ungrateful customers in the summers and is not worth your time as a local or a bartender. Used to be considered a locals bar but all you will find now is bartenders trying to make an extra dime off of underage kids even though good tippers are in front of them. I witnessed bar altercations that could be at fault of the bartender himself. Overall, if you're looking for a GOOD dive bar... go far, far, far away. This was once a fun place that we went to all the time-- it would be embarrassing to say the same now. read more
