Zero stars. Horrible servers and bartenders. The bartender looked at us and didn't even acknowledge our existence !! The server just walked by a few times. Another group of four came in after us and they got seated while we were standing there NEXT to be seated. Naturally we both complained and they got server just blew us off. We went to order after waiting another ten minutes then we walked out. Screw those clowns. I called to speak to the manager and the server answered the phone and told me there was NO manager there then hung up on me. Never again. Horrible service and horrible management. I'm so pissed! This bar has been out go-to for some 15 years! The fish fry was second to none! Tonight it was like fish sticks and the crowd was not close to what we've experienced in the past. They comped our dinner and re-breaded some fish but after the first piece- I couldn't even eat a second one. I hope my next visit make me forget this one. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Small, small dining room, so there is often a wait for a table, but the bar area provides ample seating for drinks and there's additional space outside in the summer for waiting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The all you can eat fish fry is great, and I love the combo option with the baby reds as a side. Normally, I'm a potato pancakes type of person, but my go to at the Nutty is always baby reds now when available. Cannot wait for the next fish fry here. Fabulous classic northern Wisconsin place. We started with an appetizer of delicious homemade fried pickles to go with our drinks - a local beer and the local cocktail: a brandy old-fashionedand a burger with a stuffed and fried jalapeño popper right on top, finished off with habanero raspberry sauce. Delicious and fast friday fish fry! They open at 4:00. We got there right away and claimed a spot at the bar. There was a line out the door waiting for them to open and they got everyone seating quickly. Once the tables were full they took a list for seating tables, you could grab a drink at the bar or wait outside for your table. They had several tables and games (corn hole) outside for waiting. I had the bluegill and perch platter with potato pancakes and my husband had the haddock and French fries. The batter on the bluegill and perch was a light panko coating and the haddock was more like a traditional beer batter, but thin and crispy. The platters were all you can eat, but the servings were large enough that we didn't need extra fish. They all came with baked bean, cole slaw, rye bread, and a side. The bartender managed to get dozens of drinks out for table service with in the first 15 min of opening while still being able to serve the bar. Do him a favor, if you want an old fashioned please be ready with the entire order, don't just ask for an old fashioned. He worked his tail off and was significantly under tipped ($1 for 5 drinks). Be kind to your bartender people. I highly recommend this for a great Friday fish fry. It was super busy but they seemed to be able to keep up. Be patient! read more

It's topped with a battered, deep-fried jalapeño stuffed with cheddar and cream cheese. It also has a raspberry habanero sauce which is spicy sweet. We have been trying to come to this place for over a year !!! Weird hours... call before you go. Atmosphere was the typical up north bar. Small bar to sit at. Not much room for dining either. Cozy. Drinks were cold and served quickly. We had other dinner plans, so were unable to eat there. But WOW DID THE FOOD LOOK AND SMELL GREAT. Everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. The smell of the food was fresh and tantalizing. They have jalapeño poppers the size of your head. For real. Those babies are giant. Will update our review when we get back there. We love this place. Just a stones throw from our cabin. It gets busy so if you want a seat/not wait for a while either get there when they open or try later around 6/630. Sitting at the bar is the best for us with attentive service, a strong pour, and fair pricing. Food always good too, we love coming here. They did take out my favorite gambling machine so that was a bummer but I am working on getting over it read more

My husband & I stopped in for their fish fry last night, arriving just in time to get into line before they opened. Seating was organized & prompt as was the service. We quickly received our food hot from the kitchen w/continued attentive service throughout our meal. Loved the many options of potatoes as a I was able to get baby reds to accompany my fish fry--yum! Only reason this isn't a 5-star review was due to carrying an off-brand of one liquor I would have liked to have had w/dinner & being out of my second choice. I can't say enough good things about this place to start off you must have the avocado soup followed with an appetizer of their famous jalapeño poppers. You must stop in on Tuesdays for burger night, but even better yet is Thursday night. This quirky little name of a place has the best fish fry! A group of us came here on a wimp on a Friday night and they sat us right away. Started off with their clam chowder soup which was very creamy and tasty, then for dinner I had the broiled haddock (also comes fried) that came with baked beans, choice of potato (I got baby reds!), rye bread and coleslaw! The haddock is also AYCE!!! It was delicious and the drown butter was a great touch! Our service was quick and very attentive for it being a packed house. Only downside is that they don't do separate checks and they charge $2 for a split plate, but nonetheless this place is on our list for years to come!!! read more

Great atmosphere and bar. Very tiny place, hence the wait on peak nights. They could definitely benefit from a building expansion. Also, an earlier review about the Nutty Squirrel, noted that earlier In the year, there was an issue in the kitchen, and all the chefs walked out.
