While traveling through UT I got to try a lot of great restaurants but this topped my list for quality and taste. The setting for the restaurant (which is part of the hotel/ranch is gorgeous.) Although, we went on a cold spring night and weren't able to sit outside by the Colorado River, there was excellent views from inside to enjoy, which we did. I ordered the divine butternut squash bisque. It was creamy with a hint of anise which really gave it an interesting pop to it. For a main dish, I ordered the herb stuffed chicken. It had a great flavor and was juicy. Chicken is so hard to make shine, but they really did execute an amazing dish with this chicken meal. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Nice view, but the menu misrepresents the food that is served. They overpromise and under deliver. On a recent night, we ordered steak with grilled peaches and cherry sauce. The waitress said the peaches were fresh. When the steak arrived, not only were there no peaches or cherry sauce, but they substituted A1 steak sauce and capers out of a jar. The rolls reminded me of the Pepperidge Farm rolls of my youth that my grandmother served - dense and gummy. So much for fine dining! Go elsewhere. read more

Lunch in the Colorado River, how can that be bad?? We stumbled on their place while planning for lunch down the road, and glad we found it. The hotel property is gorgeous and too expensive for us to ever stay there, so lunch was a great option. Reasonably priced, great cocktails and killer views. read more

They didn't just accommodate us but with were over the top with their care and creativity. We consider ourselves knowledgeable enough about good or great dishes. Yesterday dinner was pretty good. Today's breakfast was as extremely slow. No refill for coffee, had to ask for children's menu, waffle over cooked, little to no service whatsoever. Today's lunch was worse. Wait an hour for partly solidified Mac and cheese with no side of fruit for kids, 16$ Cobb salad missing half the ingredients listed on the menu (like tomatoes and carrots). Really just disappointed since it's so pretty here and this was a special splurge for us. And dinner was again delicious but service is awful. The chef is amazing but seriously. Maybe hire high school kids who actually want a job. read more

Unless you're staying here, do not waste your time driving to eat a meal here. There was a hair (short, black) in my husband's salad and an eyelash (blonde) in my risotto. The only reason we brought it up was the table next to us, when asked by the waitress how their dessert was, got their entire meal comped because they said "I would have expected the cheesecake to be more firm." So, as someone who normally would just let it go and skip dinner assumed, this place actually cares, I'll tell them. Our waitress' response to being told 2/4 dishes had hair in them was "Oh. We've never heard that before." I expected some sort of attempt at a resolution or even apology. Nope, she took our food, comped my risotto (of which I had eaten bites), and acted as if we should be happy with leaving a restaurant we drove 30 minutes to visit without eating a clean, full meal. Honestly so disappointed I wasted one of my nights of vacation getting dressed up, ending our day of hiking early, and driving to and from a restaurant just to leave hungry. Yes, food was good before we noticed hairs. No, you should not come here unless you're sleeping here. Also, if you're looking for a relaxing, outdoor dining experience this is not it. The swimming pool is next to the restaurant's deck, so you spend your dinner listening to screaming children. Oh and the salt had bugs in it. Just gross. read more

We had an opportunity to dine at the River Grill at Sorrel River Ranch in October of 2018 and could not have been happier! The views outside the restaurant are UNREAL. Perfect ambiance, perfect drinks, and amazing food. I personally love how they use so much food that is grown locally on property. For example, their Chefs Garden Salad is made 100% from food grown at the ranch. Its beautifully plated and so colorful! We had the NY Strip Steak (as well as steak on the salad) and it was PERFECT. So tender, so tasty, and so masterfully cooked. When you're done with dinner, grab a coffee and sit by the fireplace in the lounge (see photo), or take it outside by the firepit (which is 100% stocked and ready for S'mores!) read more

I wanted to love this place because the resort and atmosphere are beautiful! The restraunt however, was awful. The chicken was bland and the potatoes needed salt. My husband ordered the trout which also needed salt and the skin was soggy and not cripsy at all. I ordered the creme brulee for desssert which is what I get at every restaurant and it just tasted terrible. The sugar on top wasnt crunchy like it should be and it was too salty which is suprising since the dinner lacked salt so badly. Overall food rating 1/10 would not come back. Also we got there at 5 right when it opened and we didnt leave til 6:30 and for most of the time we were the only table in there. The kitchen service was so slow. read more

Our family had a disappointing Thanksgiving dinner at the River Grill this year.  The "slow roasted Snake river prime rib" was not slow whatsoever, it was overcooked and tasted like rubber, charred and unpalatable. The "crispy gold Yukon potatoes" were anything but crispy, they were cold, wet and starchy. And the cream spinach was tasteless (I wish I would have had mustard instead to cover up the taste of the whole thing). It was also very expensive compared to the last couple of years we've been there, but most importantly the quality & taste of food was so poor, we could not believe that we were at the same restaurant that we used to enjoy. Looks like they went from fine dining/upscale restaurant to Denny's quality food but with more expensive prices. read more

This restaurant sits right on the Colorado River and provides a stunning view while you dine. The food is cooked fresh from the farm, and is very good. We ordered the charcuterie board to start and it was delicious! The sourdough bread that is brought out to the table is also incredible. After a night camping near Moab, my girlfriend and I decided to stop at the River Grill for lunch and revisit the place we had met at three years ago. We were a bit surprised to find that there was not a single other person in the restaurant on a Friday afternoon. She had an espresso, and ordered the harissa chicken sandwich. I ordered the B.L.T.E.A, both of our sandwiches with fries. After about 20 minutes, our food came out. Fries were made in house, but came out lukewarm. Good flavor though, and not too soggy. My sandwich was served on grilled toast with a potent garlic mayo, generic bacon, avocado, field greens, sliced heirloom tomato, and a crispy fried egg. The bread was a bit burnt, the white on my egg was burnt crispy, and the yolk almost cooked solid, and the mayo seemed possibly old? Didn't taste too fresh. Not a stellar execution on this sandwich, especially for the $16 price tag. My girlfriend's harissa chicken sandwich wasn't any better. The chicken was completely dry, and not very flavorful. Couldn't taste much harissa - no spice at all. The pickles seemed to be house made and weren't that bad, but not that good either. Honestly, the fries were the tastiest part of our lunch. Can't say anything about dinner, although the menu seemed decent. Kind of strange to have a catch of the day at a restaurant in the middle of the desert, but no other daily specials. Our friendly server gets one star, and one star for the nice ambience. Probably wouldn't go back unless I knew I'd get better quality food for the price tag though. read more

My family and I have been here several times over the last few months and the food is incredible every time. We love the changing, seasonal menu, quality of ingredients and the use of fresh produce that is grown right on the ranch. We decided to book a reservation for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and I'm so glad we did because my family has not stopped raving about the food - hands down the best stuffing and turkey I have ever had! This is by far the best restaurant around and the place we always take our friends and family to when they are in town visiting. Aside from special occasions, it's also a great spot for a casual brunch or lunch on the patio overlooking the river as the view is incredible. read more

I will only give this 2 stars for the view and the mashed potatoes. We ate here on our trip to Moab Utah while staying in Castle Valley. It's an upscale ranch with animals and lodging is a beautiful location so we figured the food and service would be the same. Not. The service was terrible, first thing there. I ordered a Mojito and it was disappointing after the first sip. Needless to say, l didn't take another. It took forever to order our food or get bread to the table. We sat and watched others get the same treatment. It was sad. We finally ordered and it took an outrageous amount of time to get our food, which, for the price, should have been excellent. I ordered Salmon and it came warm instead of hot and not special at all. The mashed potatoes were good tho. We weren't offered dessert and had to search someone down to get our bill. It wasn't correct when we finally got it and so it took even longer to get a new one and pay it. I would not recommend eating here unless you like over priced, cold food and bad service. I have never given a review like this but l want people to know not to waste their money and time going here. read more

Had an amazing lunch here after hiking at Fisher towers. Ambience was perfect - pleasant outdoor patio on the river, fun music playing, pleasant wait staff. Food was delicious! I had the fried chicken sandwich with sauteed vegetables. Some of the best veggies I've ever had. Sandwich was a step up from your average chicken sandwich. A great lunch spot if you're driving up the valley or going for a hike. read more

The food at this rustic ranch is absolutely amazing! We stayed here for the weekend and got the grilled buffalo skirt steak as well as the beef tenderloin with fresh vegetables. And by fresh, I mean that just about everything is from farm to table; Sorrel River Ranch grows everything on site and prepares the food fresh. Granted we were only here for two dinners, each soup of the day was fantastic and well balanced. The prices are definitely reasonable for the amount of food you are receiving on the plate when presented. Along with the great food, the views of the Colorado River and the mountains are spectacular for dinner as well as breakfast. Overall, this is a great restaurant and the ranch is general is a great place to spend a romantic weekend or family vacation! :) read more

First, I should be clear that we love to stay at Sorrel River Ranch, but have been very disappointed with the restaurant during both our visit 3 years ago as well as our visit a few days ago. On this most recent visit, the menu was uninspired (boring, really), the service was *agonizingly* slow, the food was edible (but not more than that), and the whole thing was *wildly* overpriced. Dinner for two with no alcohol and a shared dessert was over $160 (including a mandatory 18% tip). Our next two dinners out (in Durango, CO) were each less than half that price and each was far better. One redeeming thing is that the rooms at Sorrel River ranch include fridges, microwaves, and plates/cutlery. Do yourself a favor and pick up something at the supermarket in Moab and eat in your room. The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because the location on the banks of the Colorado River is quite lovely. read more

The restaurant is beautiful with reclaimed barn wood, local art, and a big deck on the Colorado River. They have a small farm on property that they source produce from and I met the garden manager Shelly who is in charge of growing herbs and vegetables. It's an intimate atmosphere and the staff takes time to talk with you. When we were there the chefs offered a tasting menu that was very good. Baby beet salad, vegetable risotto, Colorado rack of lamb and an amazing homemade pot de creme. We will definitely come back if in the area again. read more

We have driven by the Red Cliffs Inn numerous times and always wanted to stay but wanted to get further before stopping for the night. We planned this one just for this stop, bringing two grandchildren in their teens. The cabin was great with good amenities with the exception of poor grade toilet paper 1 tiny set of shampoo and conditioner for a cabin which could sleep 6. And the patio set was the cheapest plastic which tipped when bumped into and all four legs fell out as we tried to right it. We had reservations for 1 1/2 HR horseback ride at $90 each. It began to thunder and sprinkle and when we asked if we could cancel because of it, they convinced us the horses were fine in storms and we would proceed. We waited til a little after 5 for them to start telling us how to steer and stay on the horse, then they chose the best horse for each. Finally, we all mounted and then into the ring for more instruction, lining up and finally we left on the ride about 5:30. The trail was full of twists, turns and rocks which were very difficult to navigate. Each horse had to stop each time as they took turns relieving themselves. At the end, we made several crossings of a creek, as the skies opened up with huge drops of very cold water. The horses were spooky from the storms and slipped some, jumped some. After we slipped off the horses into the deep mud/puddles in the ring, we ran for shelter. We returned to our cabin to shower and change for dinner. I had the Smallest drink for large price I think I've ever had. Rolls were great, ribs were good, fish portion was large but totally over cooked and dry. One steak was ordered no pink and was a four ounce hard tasteless (I asked her if it was 4 oz, she said 8). Other steak was twice the size but also tough and had a bit if pink. For $115. very disappointing. Would never eat here again. read more

From the bread to the salad to the entrees, my husband and I both enjoyed it. My husband had the Kobe steak, I had a pasta dish. Even waiters at Denny's know they should check back with a table a couple minutes after dropping off food, in case you'd like Parmesan cheese for your pasta, ketchup for your fries, another beverage, whatever. Wait staff never returned after dropping off food. The rigatoni was swimming in a pool of oil. Even our kids found it disgusting. The french fries with the kids meal were soggy from the fryer. No bottles of red wine for less than $60. Tacky, tacky, tacky. And they have the gall to charge 18% gratuity on their horrible service. The beautiful setting is just ruined by the bad dining experience. Save yourself an expensive disappointment and avoid this place. read more

This is a fabulous stop for lunch if you are on the 128 scenic byway. The view was incredible and architecture was everything you'e expect for a Western lodge. The food is delicious and service excellent. Looks like a beautiful place to stay if money is no object. read more

We dropped in for late lunch, were told the kitchen was closed but then the desk clerk called back and we were told they would serve us. We ate in the bar and were served by a pleasant waiter; however, the cheese plate we ordered was not at all as described on the menu (Parmesan, blue and cheddar cheeses, Utah honeycomb, pickles and assorted house breads). What we received was a platter with two rows of tiny chips of dry, curled cheese with an oily sheen (as if they'd been sitting out a long while), 3 blackberries and a sliced strawberry accompanied by a basket of plain white sliced baguette. We also had a charcuterie plate and beet salad that were fine, though unexceptional for the price. The prices at River Grill Restaurant are high, so one would expect more care to be given to the quality and presentation of the food. In addition, we found an unexplained $20 "service charge" on the bill. We took that to be a charge for opening the kitchen between lunch and dinner and went ahead and tipped 20% as usual. Later, we learned that the charge was a gratuity that is automatically added on to the bill, which is unusual for a party of 4. read more

We had lunch on Friday. We walked upstairs and had to walk around looking for someone to seat us. We are seated and the server barely spoke to us. We had to ask for tea refills. Let me remind you there was 1 other table to she was not busy serving others. The food was just okay if that. My husband ordered a medium burger and it was well done and had no flavor. Then the next night we had dinner there. Our bill was over $200 and I will say the steaks we could have gotten at Applebee's. Courtney was our server and she was awesome! Very nice and on top of things. However to pay over $200 and only $15 of it was a glass of wine, is pitiful I've never eaten a beef tenderloin for $45 that was drowning in What tasted like A1 and BBQ sauce. I needed a bath. My asparagus had this sauce on it as well and the potatoes where dry and flavorless. My husbands ribeye tasted like someone squeezed a lemon on it and once again he ordered it medium rare and it came out well done. The kids mac n cheese was not very kid friendly. The cheese tastes like it was manchego cheese which is yummy to me but not to a child. We decided to order the dessert from the room. When I tell you a scoop of ice cream was the size of a ping pong ball is being generous. The carrot cake was dry. We paid $9 for a puff pastry the size of a silver dollar, which was suppose to be served with a coffee ice cream and it was vanilla. The Chantilly cream in the pastry tasted like whipped cream. read more

The location and setting for this restaurant is wonderful - aside the Colorado River and it is beautiful! However, the food is acceptable but not fabulous. I liked that is farm to table but the prices were unbelievably high. Furthermore, the steak which my husband ordered rare came medium to medium well done. They took it back and delivered the second steak done correctly. I expected much better service for a $55 steak meal. Salads appetizers and wine list alike were way overpriced. We arrived to the place with a *air quotes* "reservation". The hostess could not find our reservation on the list. Our venture continued when we were seated and had to ask not once, not twice, not three times, but four times for a basket of bread. Our server was very friendly but the entire restaurant could barely operate. It took nearly an hour for our entrees to arrive. I had the lamb which was absolutely awful. On top of the fact that it had no flavor, I probably could've had 2 chicken mcnuggets mcdonalds and been more filled. Prices are extremely overpriced. You're better off driving to a salt lake city fast food place and having a better meal there. Overrated. read more

This upscale resort has a great, but apparently undiscovered fine restaurant, the upstairs River Grill. We chose to dine on the veranda overlooking the Colorado River, set against a massive shear wall of rock in the background. The dining experience matches the spectacular scenery and ambiance. Sure, it's a bit pricey, but go ahead anyway--this is a unique place with impeccable service and cuisine to match. read more

After an unimpressive dinner at Red Cliffs down the road a few minutes, we tried the restaurant at Sorrell River Ranch. Bit off-putting as you enter into the lobby as it isn't really clear where the restaurant is...a few tables near the lobby bar and more under a roof on the veranda by the river. We selected the latter and while the view lacked the jaw-dropping sunset at Red Cliffs, it was very pleasant. The food was surprisingly excellent...justifying the relatively lofty prices for the Moab area. Service was attentive and efficient but not urban-slick; undoubtedly seasonal help. Given a lifetime of foodie experiences around the world, we don't impress easily....we were pleased ! read more
