I had the great pleasure of staying at Redcliffs Lodge for a couple days and was able to dine at the Cowboy Grill for a couple of meals. I will say the hotel breakfast not sure if it's connected to the restaurant, was really good. Every day they served fresh and varied pastries. The scones, muffins, cinnamon buns were delicious and a great was to start the day. There were also plenty of breakfast food options and served all you can eat buffet style. Lunch: I ate lunch twice here. The first time I had the fish tacos, The plate comes with two hardy sized tacos. The fish is well prepared; with the appearance of a golden breaded crust. Another lunch, I had the RCL burger and boy did that not disappoint!!! It was such a flavorful burger. It was also huge, and I had plenty of leftovers. Dinner: Filet mignon and I ordered broccoli and mashed potatoes to go with the steak. The steak was phenomenal. read more

Seldom that I do ratings this low, but it's my opinion that it's appropriate. Not greeted upon entry. Place was empty at 1230 pm. It was 98° outside and AC was not working. Ordered drinks and H2O to start. Waiter suggested a drink, but returned to our table after about 10 minutes advising they were cutting up fresh fruit for the cocktail. He then came back after a few minutes advising they are out of the ingredients for the cocktail he recommended. Ordered a different drink and some chips and cold onion dip along with a draft beer. It took another 10 minutes to get our chips and still no drinks. When the server brought the chips he didn't bring any napkins. I asked for napkins to which he responded. He never brought the napkins. After about 5 minutes I walked to bar to get napkins. The server was still working on the drinks. I grabbed some bar naps and returned to my table. We are still the only patrons in the restaurant so I was confused as to what the server was doing and why I had to serve myself. Chips were good and onion dip was ehhh. Setting was beautiful, but we were denied a table in prime location as they had a hotel party who were coming in during the evening? Place has great potential. The Cowboy Grill is inside the Red Cliff lodge, which is absolutely beautiful. The Grill has indoor, patio, and Al fresco dining. The dinner menu is not very extensive and prices are moderate. In my opinion, you're paying for the location and view (if you sit outside), not the food. I had the roasted chicken and it was average; it didn't leave anything to be desired. The shrimp appetizer was quite subpar and my company's pork tenderloin was also average. Their cocktails were pretty good but not as strong as you'd think they be since this is Utah after all and there's laws on how much liquor a drink can have. If I had to do it again, I'd go for lunch to enjoy the view of the Colorado River, which is pretty sweet. Also, while at the lodge, be sure to visit the film museum in the basement of the lodge. read more

This is certainly a contender for a James Beard award Stunning views and location. We had the Local Utah Red Trout Pine Nut & Pecan Crust, Lime Cilantro Browned Butter and Spicy Cabbage Slaw and the Braised Bison Short Rib. Whipped Potatoes, Shoestring Fried Onions and Bison Demi-Glace. Cowboys never had it so good. It's no wonder that film production companies stay here. Definitely not worth the long and winding 14 mile down the narrow canyon road, although the drive will be the highlight of your experience. With a reservation for the patio overlooking the river, my wife and I were informed that no table would be available for 45 minutes. But by then there'd be no river view due to darkness. And, no, there are no heaters. So it would be too cold to dine outside by then anyway. We should have taken a clue from the diners exiting the bus ahead of our arrival, as the collection of walkers and shuffling looked like a run on the dining room at an assisted living center. When the server showed up, he showed the personality of a cadaver, offered no suggestions or specials and dutifully took drink orders. The drinks did not arrive quickly, but the server beat them to the punch, returning to take our dinner order. Why not? It would give us something to do while awaiting our drinks. When the food finally arrived, coming in a close second behind the drinks, it became apparent that the Devil said "I'll make a deal. Quality or quantity? But not both!" They opted for the latter. The double pork chop was remarkable only by being pork. My wife's chicken was bland and flavorless and was either actually a half turkey or a monument to how big a chicken can be grown with science. She ate a quarter of the half, boxed and took back to the hotel the remainder, and upon viewing the cold carcass in the morning, gave it a toss into the recyclable bin. The only star this place deserves is for the 5-star views of the RedRocks and Colorado River. All of the food, appetizers and main courses, were all brought at the same time. We ordered the chili, completely flavorless, not even a hint of spice! The Rocky Mountain Oysters tasted like buffalo chicken wings. The steak, a Bison New York cut, was chewy and stringy, overcooked. This should have melted in our mouth as a medium rare slice, but no. The mushrooms side for the steak was better used as chewing gum. We added the baked Brussel sprouts with bacon, almonds, and cranberries. The bacon was completely absent from the dish and the Brussel sprouts were very sour tasting. The only decent dish was the truffle fries, but lacked enough catsup, one little ounce for a plateful of fries. We asked to speak with the manager, who proceeded to comp the meal (not our reason for complaining). He then had the chef come out to hear our complaints only to feel like he was just listening without listening. Only go for the view, have a drink but AVOID the food!!! read more

We were in UT to visit the National Parks and while in Moab we went to The Cowboy Grill! It was the best dinner that we've had in a very long time! I really wanted to like the restaurant as much as I like the lodge but I could not unfortunately. We had breakfast to start. The buffet was good, we had pancakes and bacon (hard to mess up bacon). The southwest scramble they had that day was good. We did come back for dinner a few days later. The view from the outdoor deck was great. Service was super slow though. One of the drinks we ordered wasn't put through, so we sat there for a while waiting for the drink until we were able to get the waiters attention and he hadn't put in the order. :( I had the ribeye with the steak potatoes- it was OK, not great. The steak was a bit overcooked. We ended up to leaving early because service took a while and our child was not cooperating. So come for the view, the food is not going to be the main attraction. read more

This place earns an extra star visit for the views and the drive in. My friend and I decided to treat ourselves here and had mixed reviews. Overall everything was good but not great. To drink, I had the boxers fracture and really liked it, she had the passion in the desert and wouldn't order it again. The cheese board was a nice variety but we had no idea what we were eating- there were so many cheeses and I wish it was listed or told to us when it was served! In my trip to #moab #utah , I had chance to enjoy the most beautiful dinner view at The Cowboy Grill at Red Cliffs Lodge . I had a nice spot in their fine dining room with all view of green Colorado river reflecting with red towering rock cliffs . The color of the view naturally changed based on sunlight, which is beautiful green-orange to lavender-gray when to sun down . That view is the most amazing gem of the dining room . Also , the menu was very shining with different options of steak . They have good quality #beef. And you can choose different types of meat such as elk . I had American wagyu with baked sweet potato and veggies , I ordered the steak with medium cook and it came out amazing. If you want to try something new I highly recommend the Elk Medallions . The price tag of each dish is around $30-$40 , that's too cheap for millions dollars view of the restaurant. Highly recommend when you have chance to visit Moab , UT. read more

We stayed at the Red Cliffs Lodge for 3 days. I didn't expect much because the food I've had thus far on my vacation to Utah has been sub-standard. Boy was I wrong! This place is a gem! Not only is the food absolutely amazing, but the service has been top notch. Every single employee I've come in contact with from your front desk ladies, to your servers, hostesses, maintenance people have all been friendly and very helpful. Also, the breakfast buffet is great, still trying to figure out how they get such good, fresh food out here in the middle of nowhere. Last Friday night my husband and I went to the bar to listen to music and have dinner. We had just finished dinner (6:25pm) and planned to finish our beverages. We were then approached by a different server and asked to go outside for a half an hour while they fed a tour bus crowd! We're not finished with our drinks and frankly didn't want to go outside! The server treated us rudely and we were not given any other alternative or compensation for abruptly having to leave our table. There was never a warning given to us when we sat down that we only had 30 minutes before we'd be kicked out or otherwise we would have chosen to sit in the dinning room. The scenery was breathtaking, the wait staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. I took my family out of the way for a restaurant touted as exceptional; it was nowhere near acceptable much less exceptional. We ordered perhaps the two most expensive dishes on the entree menu, two sirloin steaks, thinking and hoping that cuisine matches the location and ambiance. Nope The sides were ehh, nothing beyond the experience of any residential cook. the steaks were so very very disappointing that me, a died in the blue carnivore left 30% of the steak for the restaurants clean up crew. What a disappointing way to spend $50. Don't get me wrong, the place is in a beautiful setting. My waiter and hostess were amazing. Menu items look great. The problem was my $38 Ribeye meal. The 1st attempt at a medium-rare steak got me a medium-well steak that I couldn't hardly poke with my fork. I sent it back and waited for a replacement. This one was able to be penetrated with a fork at least, and when I cut into it I would call it medium, NOT medium-rare. I told my server that I would try it. My biggest mistake! I couldn't manage to eat half of the steak because it was tough, overcooked (to how I ordered it) and lacking flavor. I did let my server know that I was very disappointed and that the steak was by far the low point of my meal. He told me he passed it along to management but there was no response. When he returned with my bill he did say that after asking a 2nd time they did offer a free dessert. Sorry but after spending an hour there already and eating my appetizer and baked potato, I had no desire to wait on a mediocre dessert. My recommendation is if you wish to visit and enjoy the view, order an app, get a drink, but don't waste your money on an entree when the kitchen manager has no desire to make you happy. They know there will be more tourists there tomorrow so they could care less. read more

Had Outlaw chicken with steak fries. Started with a green dinner salad. Salad was super fresh and tasty. Cucumber, tomato, red onion, dried cranberries, and more!! Chicken was a large portion covered in an outlaw wine sauce, covered in red peppers and onions. Stake fries were fresh cut and all the food came out hot! Great service, great food, great view! My wife and I decided to trust the cowboy grill to treat us well for our 1 year wedding anniversary and to say that they ruined the night would be an understatement. My wife had made reservations well in advance to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the nice live music playing. When the white women hostess with brown hair sat us inside, we asked about our reservation being outside she said "we have a lot of reservations" and then slammed out water glasses on the table and poured our water with an insurmountable amount of attitude. Not a big deal we can look past that. She then proceeded to seat the next 4 parties outside, this is when we started to feel like we were being mistreated. Our waitress then came over and asked how we were doing to which I filled her in on the situation. She politely told us that she would get her manager over to help us out. When she returned she had no manager and stated that the seating outside was priority to guest staying at the hotel (if this is the case, why give the option when making reservations?). Again we were getting a little more upset but wanted to just enjoy our 1st anniversary being a married couple. As we sat there we hear two other parties complaining about how they had reservations to sit outside, but of course were sat inside. Eventually, after we had received our appetizers and bottle of wine, the manager came to over and address us and another party (at the same time) about the situation and to try and resolve it. As we were the first ones sat of the two, he offered us the first available table outside. He then told us to pick everything up and carry it outside ourself, but offered to carry the bottle of wine (we are not above doing this but with the price of the food it was a bit demeaning). Finally we are outside enjoying the music and attempting to put all of this behind us. Of course then the manager started to explain to us and the other party that outside seating is priority to first come first serve (at least 4 parties were sat outside after we were sat inside, and they previously told us it was priority to guests staying at the hotel, at least be consistent). We then continue on to make something special of our first anniversary and more and more things contribute to the very unpleasant experience. Our waitress (older than the others but not old with brunette hair) continued to patronize my wife and I as if we were children, which started to get very tiring after some time. She told us that dessert would be on the house for the inconvenience at the beginning, and then throughout the rest of dinner and after I eventually asked for the check she still never mentioned anything about deserts. Mind you in our reservation we made it apparent we would be dining with them for our anniversary and I had also mentioned that we were celebrating anniversary when she asked if we were there for any special reason. At the end of the meal I asked for the check and when she brought it out to us I mentioned I needed a pen (admittedly I was a little to worked up in the moment and had not actually given her my card yet). She stood 3 feet from us the entire time I looked over the itemized list because ohh did I mention they got our dinner order wrong and brought us the wrong items (which we didn't complain about) and I wanted to make sure they weren't charging us for more than what we got. She then ran my card, brought back my card, told me to keep the pen and said "I hope you had a wonderful first anniversary with us" and LAUGHED at as. I'm not joking, this sounds like a fictional story as I write it, but she actually laughed at us as she knew she was a part of ruining our 1st anniversary being a married couple. I admit, I did not respond very well to this but how would you respond? If you are the hostess, waitress, or manager and are reading this, I hope that you can look yourself in the mirror and be happy with the way that you treated my wife and I. this was by far the worst dining experience I have had in years. I've worked in the industry and I know what minimum expectations are and this was a hard fail on all levels. Brought my parents for a nice meal with a good view while on vacation expecting decent food decent service and a great view. The only pleasant part was the view. Server(I won't mention his name) was barely attentive. My father and I ordered steaks rare, they came out well done. When the server came back ten min later to finally check on how we are doing and I brought it to his attention he set his hang on his chin and rolled his eyes as he examined my steak then very much annoyed took my steak back. Meanwhile my drink glass has been empty for 20 min now. He didn't ask if I even wanted another steak or offer any apology all I received was attitude. When they brought out the next steak they forgot to bring me A fork and also it did not come with the chimichurri that I had ordered with it. Our server once again disappeared for a good 15 min until finally Coming to check and see how it was tasting, my drink glass still empty. My father had asked for a refill of his ginger beer to which he never got during our meal. For a supposed high end restaurant and resort this was an absolute joke. We were staying at The Red Cliffs Lodge (the restaurant is attached) and ate dinner here. We had a beautiful view of the river and surrounding cliffs! Highly recommend getting a reservation and requesting a seat next to the windows. The service was great. Very friendly and attentive. We both got the Surf and Turf special. We weren't very impressed with the "surf" part of the meal. Maybe we should have known better than to expect good scallops in Utah. BUT the "turf" more than made up for it! Both steaks were cooked and seasoned perfectly! So delicious that we couldn't stop eating even though we were stuffed! Recommendations: skip the surf and turf, but get the t-bone! It hardly made my taste buds dance, the mashed potatoes were normal as well nothing out of the ordinary. The prices were $$ but I bet you pay for the view and the ambiance more than the meal itself. We ended our meal with a regular banana split. It's an assumption of being in such a great outdoor setting your meal will be at the same level but this was not the case. Our family has been coming to the Red Cliffs Lodge for years and often eats at the Grill. Tonight the food was really terrible. The chefs ribs were not good. The tuna had no flavor and the trout Kalamati sauce was overpowering for such a mild fish. It was a pricey meal for poor food quality. There was also a ridiculous childrens menu- nothing was appealing for our kid which left an unhappy camper who was really hungry after a long day of hiking. Servers were friendly and did their best.
