It has been five years since I've been to Moab and a lot has changed. Jailhouse Cafe has been our go to breakfast place for at least 10 years. The food taste was still decent. However, the prices have absolutely skyrocketed. We paid five dollars each for some pretty fair tasting coffee. The omelette I used to order is now close to $20. The portion seemed quite a bit smaller too For breakfast for the two of us it was over 50 bucks. We used to have to wait at least an hour for breakfast but this time there was absolutely no wait. I'm wondering if due to the rising meal costs if that's impacting the number of customers coming in the door. I am not sure if I would come back again in the future, which is such a shame. read more

Perhaps this place had a hey day and it was some time ago? Hard to be happy with a $5 coffee that tastes like a $.75 one. Nor the 'fresh oj' for $6 that was clearly from a super market container. The scramble wasn't bad but my guess is that they have a number of dishes in the back under heat lamps? I saw a woman order her meal and it came out with toast that could not have been created in the time between her ordering and it being made. Jailhouse is apparently an institution of Moab. It was a good breakfast/brunch place for what we wanted. It was good but not super special. Mostly typical eggs, omelets, pancakes and waffle. Fairly pricey, but comparable to other spots in town. If you like this kind of food, it's worth stopping in. Our service was friendly. And the restaurant itself was cute. read more

Here is the most honest review you'll get. We got here on Monday 9:20am. Stopped in because it was packed. We only waited 5 mins. Got seated but then had to wait awhile before we got asked if we wanted anything. Ordered 2 cups of 5 buck coffee. It was decent. Then we ordered a stack of pancakes (4). It was 15 bucks for very basic pancakes. Pricey. Ordered side of bacon (3) strips for 8 bucks. This was some of the best bacon I've ever had. Very very good. Ordered a omelette. Omelette was small but good. Toast was super cold. Potato's were cold and had very good flavors. Spicy. Perfect however cold. Overall this is not a typical greasy spoon restaurant. Don't judge from the exterior! Best breakfast we had all week in Moab. Omelets with fresh spinach, mushrooms were made perfectly. Potatoes had just the right amount of spice, whole grain toast was crispy and pancakes were bouncy with texture! Waitress was attentive- wish I remembered her name- started with a "J". They have two auxiliary canvas draped eating areas besides the main building, so there's plenty of space. Not fancy if that's what you want. This restaurant is known for their Eggs Benedict, Swedish Pancakes and their thick bacon. We ordered 2 of these items and agreed with the recommendations. The Eggs Benedict are really so delicious. They use a non-traditional hollandaise sauce which, amazingly amped up the flavor of the eggs! And the eggs were perfectly made so that the whites were thoroughly cooked and the yolk was runny. Odd, but this is a difficult thing to get in a restaurant. The meal was served with delicious home fries where the potatoes were moist and flavored. We also ordered a side of their thick bacon, which had a bit of a different flavor - very nice. The bacon was perfectly cooked. We took a chance on the egg scramble, which had lots of promise with the many ingredients listed, but the eggs were overcooked and dry, so the other ingredients couldn't compensate. They served the eggs with a very nice bread for their toast. We almost didn't come here as we only saw the side of the building, which was a very small house looking structure. But as you continue down the street, you can see that they have expanded their restaurant to include the dining area: an "inside" area and a patio area. All of this new structure is glass or plastic windows, they have heating and cooling to accommodate for the time of day and they did a great job of making a pleasant eatery. Everyone we met at the restaurant was pleasant and kind. It was such an enjoyable time. We have a few more days in Moab, so we will be back. read more

If you're looking for decent breakfast and aren't price sensitive, there's nothing wrong with Jailhouse. Really good service is the hallmark of this place as are the pancakes. We tried the Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam. They were very good - served hot and fresh, light and thin. Good size portions, perfectly cooked, seasoned beautifully. And their signature side of bacon is worth the price, the best bacon I've had in a long time. Delicious breakfast in Moab! The ginger pancakes with the apple butter was phenomenal and the Benedict was flavorful. Even without a side of sausage or eggs, the pancakes were very filling. The tea was just Tazo, which was good but I was hoping for lose leaf for the price. Service was quick and the venue was quite charming. This cute little breakfast place was the perfect end to my Moab trip. A classic American style breakfast joint. I got a hot latte and the eggs florentine, both were great. My cousin got buttermilk pancakes and she loved them, super fluffy! They had lots of servers working, so we didn't wait long for our food and drinks. I saw best eggs Benedict claim here so I decided to try it since I am an eggs Benedict snob. I came at 10 am and was seated immediately, there was no line. The ambiance is cute coffee shop with a little feel of a diner. Server came right the way and I ordered macchiato coffee and the chorizo eggs Benedict. Coffee came right the way and it was absolutely delicious, great aroma and nice low acidity. The meal came shortly after with potatoes. I asked for extra hollandaise sauce as the chorizo was a little overpowering and I couldn't taste it and I love some good hollandaise. Ok hands down I have to say the hollandaise sauce was amazing. The Jailhouse cafe is a true historic site to Moab. Its menu consists of a Santa Fe flavor in its western style breakfast menu. The staff were really nice and friendly. They don't make you feel rushed to finish your meal, although busy. The Jailhouse has a bit of seating but there is additional seating that is covered outdoors. This is perfect for an early bird since it's open early in the morning and they close around 2pm for the day. read more

UPDATE: my husband saw a waiter pour someone else's left over coffee in the coffee pot!!!!!!! Food was classic American breakfast type, potato's could have been cooked longer were kinda hard. Other than that pretty good and basic. Services was not as good as the food. We were promptly seated and the actual building is really cool. It's a mix of indoor, outdoor and open air seating. It took forever to get someone to come to our table and to get coffee. I came in and had the Southwestern Eggs Benedict. It was really good and cooked perfectly. I loved the taste of the unique chipotle hollandaise sauce. The downside was the lack of coffee refills and very inattentive service. It seemed like the server just expected our business and didn't need to try to provide a good experience. I am in Moab about 6-10 times a year. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back here due to the poor service. read more

Great dinner restaurant find in Moab!!!! We stumbled upon the Jailhouse Cafe, which looked like a good breakfast restaurant and noticed that they were now serving dinner. We walked in to check out their menu, which looked good, we then flipped our lucky coin, and it was heads, so the coin said to go for it. Now I must admit, I'm very picky when it comes to food, and was pleasantly surprised by our experience. I ordered a french style salad that had spinach, chopped hard boiled eggs and bacon. The salad and the french dressing was very fresh and amazing! We also had their hamburger with bacon, which includes shoestring french fries, which was also very good. We had a very nice glass of Napa, Alexander Valley cabernet, which was a great complement to our meal. I am giving the Jailhouse Cafe a 5-star rating for their great food with fresh tasting ingredients, their outstanding/welcoming staff, for the pleasant and relaxing background music--All made a great dinner experience after a long day out on the trails. The jailhouse Café is a popular restaurant in Moab. It's worth checking out. I would say they are most famous for their bacon, so be sure to get that as a side dish if it's not included with your meal. I got the waffles, but they were out of their mix so they did something different. There is only parking on the street, which was a little frustrating sense downtown. Moab is crowded. I tried to use the restroom twice and there was a line both times which was also frustrating. I would definitely go back and maybe try something different next time. read more
