The staff were amazing! The food and fresh coffee were great and definitely worth returning. I had a breakfast burrito and it was big enough that I almost could not finish it. I ordered the hannah banana iced latte and my husband got the creme brulee shaken cold brew. The coffee they used is good but I honestly could not taste any banana flavoring in it. I dont know if the barista forgot to add banana flavoring to it? After having a not so great experience last month, we came back to rival today and I'm happy to say that whatever issue the kitchen was having then has been resolved! Our food and drinks were amazing and the fries were cooked perfectly crispy this time as opposed to the really undercooked soggy ones last time (see photos for example). This makes me super happy as I loved Rival prior to that last experience. I really hope they stay consistent with their food items from here on out. I got the vegan hash that satisfied and my fiancé got the rival breakfast sandwich. They had a big selection of coffees from those who just want a black coffee to specialty drink. Fiancé got a drip coffee and I got a lavender vanilla (so yummy!). You order at the register and they're super patient, considering the menu isn't available until you get to the register (of course it's online too but most coffee shops I go to have a big board or menu posted while you're in line); we had a few questions and the staff gave us some recommendations. They were sweet to let our dog in - I asked if we should sit outside since we had her but they asked if she's well-behaved, and we ended up sitting inside! Music was fun (Drake, Tupac) and we were in and out in 20 min since line was quick and food came out in a timely manner. Easy parking, bathrooms were clean, and they have some nice art and signage. Moved to the area about a year ago, and am still trying out new coffee shops in the area. My sister originally referred me over to Rival. I've been here several times and keep going back because they never disappoint. This location has a huge layout. It's great to hang out, work, or even study. I would highly recommend either the Hannah Banana or their Dirty Chai. I'm not a big fan of ordering Chais because they're always to milky at many coffees shops, but Rivals is spot on. NEW COFFEE SHOP ALERT!! Thanks to Cassandra, the original Donut Girl, for referring me to Rival Coffee!! It's all about WHO you know when you wanna be IN the know, ya know?! Hehe.. Rival Coffee is aptly named because duhhh... you know that other coffee shop we all know and love?! Yeah, I love it too, but this place definitely One Ups it!! You'll find it tucked in behind Murrieta Mesa High School. It's a really weird location next to a Holiday Inn Express. Once you find it, you're in for a treat!! I was confused trying to find the front entrance because currently they are under renovation. What will be the main dining room is in progress at the moment, but I have no doubt it will be spectacular when it's done! When I finally found the entrance, I went in to see a bright and open, airy space filled with college and high school students studying away. They are allowing inside dining in their lounge areas. Very chill and relaxing vibe. Would be perfect for a coffee date, hang out spot, quick meeting, or study sesh with buddies. The drive thru is adorable with the big letters spelling out "Have the best day" on your way out! On the other side of the wall, is a nice large patio. "Drink better coffee" and you will when you get here! Such a sweet spot to chill at! As I walked up to the counter I noticed they have a bar. YEP!! A BAR in a coffee shop, mannn!!! I am all for THAT!! When I ordered my Rocky Road Latte from Tanner, we schmoozed about how we both like peanut butter. I asked if he's tried my fave, Skrewball Whiskey and he said no... he's under age (oopsie)!! He did point out that they have it at the bar...which will bring me back here for another visit, lol. I also got the cheese danish, as their kitchen was closed because I came pretty late. Tanner said they had a few pastries left and that was it. He kindly heated up the danish for me and it was super yummy!! Nice and flakey with just the right amount of cheese filling. It was a good size too, not huge and not teeny. The Latte was good, but next time I'll have them make it a bit sweeter for me. My fault for not telling Tanner I like my drinks a bit sweet. They do charge extra for oat milk. I can't wait to go back to try other things from their menu. Food options sound amazing! When the renovation is complete, I will be coming back often. I'll be visiting regularly until then. The staff is quick and efficient. Always friendly and welcoming. Their made in house donuts are delicious but my ultimate weakness is their Rival breakfast sandwich. It's excellent. Tons to choose from on the menu without it being overwhelming. I personally recommend the cookie batter coffee or the seasonal beverages. Everything is delicious so you really can't go wrong. I've been coming to rival since it opened, I've been a loyal customer for a long time, always loved it and brought friends and family here when in town but my past few visits, man I never thought I'd say this but have been disappointing. My drink was super milky, my fault I usually order an extra shot but I wanted to try a seasonal drink. So my coffee was blehh. And the service was also not what I used to experience coming here. I always got helpful recommendations and good energy from the baristas but the two that served us kind of seemed annoyed and rushed but weren't busy, but that could be my perception, not sure. But overall it just made this experience, one of my least favorite. Will I be back? Absolutely because I do love Rival so hopefully next visit is better than this one. read more

It's tucked away - look it up and go! They have lot's of seating...including a big patio where I was able to take my pup. I had the anaheim breakfast sandwich, friend had the avo toast. Super yummy. I don't eat bacon so got it on the side - friend and pup were loving it. But pigs are super smart and cool so .... I also got a maple brown sugar latte - I never get latte's but MAPLE, oh my goodness, that was soooo good. What else, yeah, I love supporting local non-corporate places. If you like your PANTS SHREDDED IN PUBLIC places just try out the bench. My expensive pants ripped twice on separate nails. While you're shredding pants you can enjoy views of garbage rustling in the wind. There's no trash cans outside. Why did we pick outside? Because the dining room we came to enjoy was closed by the waitress that said "it's easier on us to keep this closed." Wow, thank you lazy lady. So now we know the service here is above and beyond for the staff. Whatever is most convenient for them is what goes... for example not cleaning trash, or how they keep the doors to the patio locked so if you must journey around to the front door. If you choose to sit outside the service also ends. No one comes to tell you your food is ready. So basically I'm saying sit outside.... it's great.... All the baristas/employees are nice and friendly. I always come here for their MaxiCali Loco Moco, they cooked it with quality rice (Basmati). Coffee wise, a little expensive for the regular cup size, coffee taste is okay.
