Everything tasted amazing, we ordered the California omelette, the Bruce meat lovers omelette, a side of biscuits and gravy, and a pancake. All of it was delicious and cooked perfectly. It also wasn't overcrowded at all, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Pro tip: ask for a side of extra gravy, they're happy to bring it out at no extra charge! Today was my second time visiting. On my first visit, I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, which was really good--though a bit greasy, which is honestly expected with chorizo. This time I decided to try the bacon eggs Benedict and was unfortunately a little disappointed. For those unfamiliar, eggs Benedict is typically an English muffin topped with a poached egg and a creamy hollandaise sauce. I was expecting the egg yolk to be runny when cut into, but it turned out to be fully hard-boiled instead . The hollandaise had a nice flavor and good acidity, but it seemed slightly broken. That said, the service was awesome and very attentive, which I really appreciated. Not sure if I'd visit again though. read more

We went to Black Bear Diner and overall had a really great experience. The restaurant was clean, the service was friendly, and the wait time was shorter than expected. We were quoted 20-25 minutes but were seated in about 15 minutes, which was a nice surprise. It did take a little while for our food to come out, but I believe that was because they accommodated a hard-boiled egg, which isn't always an option at restaurants. I was actually really excited about that since it's the only way my son eats his eggs. The portions were generous, the prices were great, and everything we ordered was delicious. They even made me a Virgin Bloody Mary and simply charged it as a regular drink since I didn't want alcohol, which I really appreciated. More like 3.5. Food is usually good. Had the meatloaf a few nights ago and it looked a little like it had been sitting but it was delicious! Egg soft scrambled is hit or miss. Lot of food for the price (especially now of days!) Service here is friendly but can be a little slowwwwww. Hence the 1.5 stars taken off. Also parking here can be awful, been a few times we've had to dine somewhere else because couldn't find a spot. Back in 2004 A few friends and I stayed overnight in a hotel in Central Valley California and immediately went hiking the next day in Yosemite National Park. After hiking in the park for almost twelve hours, we headed back and found this little Black Bear Diner. The prices were fair and the portions were huge. Not to mention how good the food was. With just a few protein bars and water for twelve hours after sitting down and getting our food, We all ate like bears. The diner makes great desserts and occasionally my son and I will stop in just for dessert and coffee. Besides the outside, the inside also has this rustic rugged country look to it. The food was great my dad and I went for the corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day. It came with 2 sides I got onion rings and country potatoes. My day ordered the same except he got the Mac and cheese. The service was excellent our server was Daisy. She told what was available and all of our available options. The sweet tea was cold and refreshing. Portions were just right. We both were offered dessert so we ended getting a brownie sundae and my dad got a banana cream pie. We love coming to Black Bear Diner, but we love going to this one in particular. We are ALWAYS greeted by multiple people when we walk in and that's even when they have quite a few customers already seated. We definitely feel seen. The food is delicious as well. I'm obsessed with their fish n chips. That coleslaw smacks in the best way. I love when we both order it because my hubby doesn't like coleslaw in general so I get to have double I also HAVE to trade my chips for sweet potato ones because if sweet potato fries are an option, I must try them and they never disappoint. They are quite accommodating when it comes to orders as well. My hubby wanted the surf n turf the last time we went and they didn't have shrimp ready yet because we came a lunch time. He asked if they could do a battered fish instead and the cook was happy to make the change for him and they changed the price to suit it as well. Thanks guys! Service - went on Sunday at 11 am, despite 16 parties in front of us, only waited 20 mins. Server was at our table within a couple minutes to take drink orders. Took our orders, food took about 15-20 mins to come out, everything hot. She checked back frequently for coffee refills, checked on us frequently. She worked hard with a smile. I think her name was Margarita "Maggie". 5/5 excellent service. Ambiance woodsy, diner, modern, clean 5/5 Food. Coffee was good. I ordered a Denver omelet with avocado, country potatoes, rye toast, and side of thick slab bacon. My wife ordered eggs over medium, sausage, country potatoes, biscuit. My omelet was decent, lots of diced ham, and strangely greasy... not butter greasy, grease greasy. I wonder if they make omelets on same part of flat top as meat. Potatoes decent, peppers and onion dices do small they dried up and hard to find. Not much seasoning. Bacon tasted good, thick slab crunchy but VERY greasy. Need to pat grease off before serving. Rye bread was non seeded rye. My wife's eggs were over easy despite ordered over medium . This seems to be a problem in many breakfast places. She felt the same about the potatoes as I did. The sausage tasted good, but had no external sear so consistency was mushy. Biscuit was good, huge. All portions are huge, which I think is their big attraction. So food overall 4/5, service 5/5. Last time I went to Black Bear Diner was with a group of close friends like families for dinner. In which the dinner, I ordered was ok in my opinion... For that reason? I don't even recall what we ate, so it was not as memorable. But today, after Twins Water Polo Practice, we had a huge feast for brunch. Boy was it a hit and oh so yummy for our tummies! Both my Twins ate practically everything. But then again, they are growing teens, so I expect nothing less. I myself and hubby ate almost all of our entire breakfast, because it was so delicious! Plus I'm a foodie and love to eat... lol First of all, I have to commend on how adorable the bear theme was, when we arrived from the outside decor and within the restaurant. Everywhere you looked, had cute images and statues of some kind of Black Bear. Including a blast from the past jukebox, which you don't see often. Even our cups of water had a bear imprint on them, as well as, the plates had charming bear paws. They also had so many variety of bear merchandise to purchase. Such as bear boots, bear plushies, bear slippers, bear aprons, baby bear onesies, pjs etc. Great way to generate more cash flow for the diner. Our waitress was very chill and nice. She took our order and we got our food asap. The wait was not long at all. One of my Twins ordered the Chicken Fried Steaks with Scrambled Eggs, SourDough Bread and Crispy Onion Rings. He loved every bite of it. One thing unique about this order? They buttered each slices of the sourdough bread, which is unheard of. They gave him so much, we all got to try it. Yet, we also spread some jam to give it some sweetness. The condiment spread they provided had many choices of hot sauces, jelly's, and sugars, which was an added bonus. My eldest Twin was super hungry from his workout. That he ordered the "Our Biggest, The Grizz!" Which came with hash browns, eggs, bacon, sausages, ham and 2 sweet cream pancakes. He tasted some of my husband's Cinnamon Roll French Toast, so did I. So he never got a chance to eat any of his pancakes. My husband ordered the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, which he really enjoyed. It was suppose to come with fruits but I guess he ordered eggs and sausages instead. In fact, he liked his sausages so much, I ended up giving him one of mine as well. He said his food was good and slightly different from a regular Cinnamon Roll plus a French Toast. I tasted it... To me? It's exactly a French Toast but in a Swirl like Cinnamon Roll shaped, topped with a sweet glaze or icing. It's like merging both foods together. I was in the mood for pancakes and proteins, so I ordered the Volcano. Nothing fancy or unique. You cannot go wrong with breakfast. The pancakes were fluffy and not dry, that was a plus. I just wished they placed my eggs on the side vs on top of my pancakes. Overall, it was a pleasant meal for my lovely family of four to enjoy. We appreciate the hospitality and comfort of family style dining. They also had a dessert display to order/try. However, we all over ate and was stuffed. I have been going to Black Bear Diner in Murrieta quite a bit lately for different breakfast choices all of which have been sensational. The food is great with a great setting with the Forrest type look. I have had the pleasure on most of my visits to be cared for by a server named Maggie and she is such a breath of fresh air always approaches with a smile and an effort that says I want all of my customers to have the best possible dining experience. Food was excellent with small exception of my wife's BLT (bacon a little overdone for her taste). My breakfast sandwich was amazing and overall delightful. Mom had French toast which at 91 years old, she devoured! Drinks and sides were yummy. Pro tip...grits are available although not on the menu anymore! Service was aces and she was on it throughout or meal, refilling my tea before I finished the first one. Not only was mine and my mother-in-laws steak overcooked and then undercooked when they brought it out a second time, but I'm currently listening to my husband throw up because there is still paper in his throat leftover from the burger he ate that still had the paper stuck to the meat. Waiter was fine but the cooking there was obviously terrible. Burger was taken off the check and we were offered free dessert, but that is not worth it and we will never be going there again. This was my second time at Black Bear Diner, and once again, it did not disappoint! Even though the place was really busy, we were seated relatively quickly -- which is impressive considering we had a large party of 12. The hostess was so kind and accommodating, and even made sure we had all three high chairs we needed right away. Our server, Marcos, was clearly juggling a lot of tables, but he still managed to take our orders promptly and with a great attitude. There was a small mix-up with one of the meals in our group, but both Marcos and the manager (I think her name was Rynel?) handled it so well. They comped the meal and made sure the issue was resolved quickly and professionally. It's rare these days to go somewhere that genuinely cares about what the customer says and goes out of their way to make things right -- especially when they're this busy! I ordered the CA Benedict and the bear claw -- both were absolutely perfect. The coffee is also really good, definitely a step above your average diner brew. First of all this location is really cute. My rating is purely based off of the wait time in the morning. Sitting with two kids is hard enough in a restaurant, but it is even harder when there is only one staff member taking care of 10 tables. Our waitress was amazing, but even being amazing can't compete with two very rambunctious, energetic, and hungry kids. The kids menu is extensive and it comes with a free ice cream sundae for lunch and dinner. When we got our food, our experience was way better, but the wait alone was absolutely terrible. I'm not sure if we would risk going to breakfast again, especially with our kids and knowing how long the wait for food would potentially be. He first took our drink orders as we perused the menu offerings. I chose sweet tea while hubby opted for unsweetened tea. Our drinks came out quickly at which time we were ready to order. We both ordered the smaller meals of the Santa Maria Tri-Tip. We both had green beans as sides and for the second sides hubby chose mashed potatoes plus a garden salad while I only wanted cornbread. The meals came out quickly and hot but our server forgot to ask how we wanted our steak cooked and they came out well done and was very chewy. It was delicious but gave our jaws a workout. Everything else was tasty. Joaquin was very apologetic and we decided to finish our meals. Now when we think of it they could've given us a slight discount. Oh well. It's a cute, mountain lodge vibe that's very neat & tidy. I took a slice of their scrumptious chocolate cake to go. It did not disappoint! Blackbear diner does not operate consistently enough to be depended on. I went there in the morning after their stated, opening time and myself and an employee of the diner were standing there waiting in the cold and peering in the window. I couldn't wait and had to go to another diner. I called to see what was going on because there could be many reasons for not opening on time. The employee that answered the phone was very rude. I asked to speak to a manager and he didn't even come close to acknowledging the error. I attempted to contact corporate with my concern, but they haven't responded. There are a lot of diners in the immediate area. At least four within 2 1/2 miles I'm trying them now and I have found that many of them are better and less expensive than blackbear diner.
