Stopped by here tonight after a long day without lunch. It's right around the corner from me but for some reason, I hadn't tried it until tonight. I got a pork sandwich, Brunswick stew and an oatmeal cream pie. The pork sandwich was quite good. Good meat, good sauce. All over solid and tasty. The Brunswick stew...if yo've read my other reviews, you'll see that I am a Brunswick stew snob. I'm super super picky. This was not bad. There's a lot of meat in it and it's definitely not ketchup and vinegar tossed in with some meat and veggies like at some places. But, the flavor was just a little bit off. Not my favorite but it's way better than what you find at most places around here. So, the oatmeal cream pie. They make these in house and they are huge. They have them by the register and I noticed them. I thought they had raisins but it turns out they're actually chocolate chips That sold me. The flavor is really perfect. My only complaint here is that I wish the cookies were softer. It would really do them more justice but they taste awesome and that cream filling is full of yum! Went for lunch on their 15th day in business and it's all good! As a Texas boy, I do know a good brisket when I see and taste one...this place has good, thick cut, smoked brisket. And I was really pleased that the sauce came on the side, just like at home. It had a little Texas heat, some Memphis sweet and a touch of Carolina tang. I had a "Plate" which included two sides and chose the beans and cole slaw (It is a BBQ place ya'll). Slaw was tangy, crunchy with just enough sweet and not soaked in dressing-NICE! The beans were good too, a little sweet for my taste, but combined with their homemade tangy, spicy BBQ sauce, it made for a good overall bite. I am way too picky about my Brunswick Stew, but the sample they shared with me was a home run. You could see all the ingredients and it looked to have been prepared with some thought vs the usual leftover pork, some sauce and a can of corn tossed in a pot and reheated. Good job fellas!! So to begin, I like that it's a simple menu with the basics. On the flip side, the prices are high compared to the nearby competition (who have been in business for decades). The meat was really great with lots of smoky flavor and good quantity. The sides are where this meal started to fall apart. I received 3 teaspoons (literally measured out of surprise) of beans and 4 teaspoons of mac-cheese in a plate. The beans and mac-cheese were no better than you can get at the grocery store. Add in the tiny serving for the price along with a lack of texas toast or other bread and I was really disappointed. Finally, I got a cup of stew. The stew was very liquid based and didn't have much in the way of filling ingredients. Again, the size was extremely disappointing (it was literally two thirds a cup (I measured because I was so surprised based on the premium price). When paying a premium price compared to competitors and to walk away hungry and unsatisfied for the sides/stew, it was an overall disappointing experience. The meat and very nice people running the place were the only redeeming parts of the meal, but it wasn't enough to say this is better than others within 5 miles of their location. read more

I live in the area and saw this place. Finally got around to try it. I am glad I did. I ordered the brisket sandwich and mac and cheese. The brisket was some of the best and so juicy. The mac and cheese had great flavor, I could eat just a meal of that alone. If you live in the area, you have to try it. This is now my go to bbq place. read more

Went here a while back with my wife and father-in-law. As a Texan and amateur barbecuer, I'd like to think I have pretty high standards for "good" BBQ, and Righteous Que has it. I rarely order brisket outside of Texas, and when I told the owner that he gave me a sample for free. It was super moist and well-seasoned with a solid but not overly smoky flavor. It was even better than the pork (that's what I ordered) which itself was great. My only knock on the brisket was that it didn't have that crunchy bark that the very best brisket delivers. I did run into a little problem in that my mac and cheese was room temperature when I got it. Upon bringing it up, the employee offered to give me a different side, so I chose the beans which were fantastic. After a little while, he brought over another side of the mac and cheese, stating that they had fixed the issue with the temperature. Wow, was it good too. My philosophy as a consumer is that we will all run into problems eventually. What's most important is how the business responds when something doesn't go as expected. The food at Righteous Que was top notch, and the service was even better. After we talked about my being from Texas, the owner took me to the back to show off their smoker. It's the real deal, and so is this BBQ joint. read more

Sometimes, a five-star experience doesn't need a hip and eccentric location, a rockstar server, and an entree that is completely out of this world. Ultimately, when the day is over, all people like me really want comfort, efficiency, and delicious food that doesn't break my wallet. All a business has to really do is not do anything wrong, and excellence usually comes naturally. Righteous 'Que is conveniently located off of Roswell Rd., within a big shopping center anchored by a Publix. Admittedly, they're a little easy to miss, since their sign pretty much says "BBQ" with their logo as kind of an afterthought, but frankly they do well in spite of this critique. Needless to say, there's lots of parking, and they're very easy to get to. The establishment is not large, probably can seat maybe like 18-20 people tops inside, but I get the impression that they do quite a good bit of business as take out. It's clean and cozy, and brightly lit. As for the food, I just had a pork sandwich and a side of collards. They're generous with the pork which is always a plus in my book. The pork is tender, but not dry, and tasted delicious with or without any sauce, which kind of has a vinegary flavor at first, but definitely leans towards sweet, overall. The sandwich did not last, which attests for its outright quality. Not to be forgotten, either I got the greens at the bottom of the tray, or this particular batch was extra stewy, but I loved them. Tangy, a little bit hearty, and served piping hot and with lots of flavor. It's also worth mentioning that everyone that worked there was super nice and helpful. They're quick to give good suggestions, like their oatmeal creme cookie dessert, and smart enough to give me a sample of brisket to make me realize that I should probably come back for that in the future. With a drink, you're looking at an easy sandwich and side meal for under $10. When I'm feeling lazy and don't want to cook, this an extremely dangerous combination for me, although fortuitous for them. Overall, Righteous 'Que gets five stars from me. Convenient location, excellent product, friendly staff, and pretty fairly priced for convenience. They did absolutely nothing wrong, and I most certainly can see myself coming back here in the future, probably for their Soul Saver sandwich (all the meats!). read more

Once again I need a 2.5 stars option, as my exact take would be, "OK, but I've had better." But I do plan to give it another go, and any real BBQ fan knows finding what any joint is best at is a process. Ours was a takeout order of a pound of pulled pork ($12.95), a half-slab of spare ribs ($12.25), pint of slaw ($4.95), and a pint of mac chez ($6.50). Augment that with a pack of buns and a can of baked beans from the next door Publix (and a cold lager, or four) and you could feed four for around $40. Unfortunately the canned baked beans may have been my fave side. Slaw is the Robin to BBQ's Batman, the junior partner absolutely, but they must work together seamlessly. The Righteous slaw was just too dry and lacking any real flavor on its own -- even the celery seed seemed rare. And this is not a plea for a chopped or a vinegar slaw, just a slaw with some heft and backbone will do. Meanwhile, the premium price of the mac chez raised expectations and dashed them. Just tremendously overpriced. This is a fine church potluck mac chez, crunchy breadcrumbs on top, good amount of chez among the elbows -- and Aunt Someone's idea to toss in a couple envelopes of Italian dressing mix. And with that comes the secret decoder. Alabama white sauce. Righteous is the only OTP BBQ outpost I know of which concocts the North Alabama mayo and vinegar based sauce that some compare to warm ranch dressing. This particular take also seemed big on garlic and at once everything made sense. The default BBQ sauces are big on sugar and are in truth almost glazes, hit with a touch of white sauce they balance out. Some. I tried mixing a little white sauce with the slaw, but that tart acid really didn't help things much. Too bad as the pork preps had good, not great, flavor. The ribs had a rich, dry rub and a little pleasant smoky chew, which perked up with a small application of the glaze. And as full spare ribs, the tips were intact which meant for more meat, even if you have to work harder around the cartilage nibs to get it. The pulled pork was pulled -- which is important as chopped is an option at Righteous, which might not sound like a big deal, but is -- to chopped fanatics. To many raised on classic Lexington cue, a chopped sammich is an absolute requirement for any BBQ joint, so bonus points for Righteous for checking this esoteric box. However, despite a nice, moist, lean, pick of a pound, with plenty of smoky bark, I just did not get a ton of flavor from the meat. What flavor I did get seemed to yearn for a classic vinegar-red pepper Eastern NC saww-siss, and the sweet glaze and white sauce just couldn't respond to that call. Bottomline, do give Righteous a go when your cue comes calling -- I plan to double back to try the brisket, chicken (THE white sauce pairing) and the greens -- just be aware of the left turns ahead. read more

Whenever we want barbeque in Marietta, this is the place we go. Great service, simple menu, and fantastic barbeque. I always get the brisket. It's tender, smoky, and mixed with their homemade bbq sauce, it is awesome. Also, their mac n cheese is a good treat to go along with their sweet and tangy baked beans. The mac n cheese has just enough cheese, along with a little crunch. I see for fall, they also added some pumpkin pie pudding. Are you kidding me? REALLY GOOD. Normally they have banana pudding, which is dangerously good. Love the crew and energy here. We can't recommend it enough! Fresh bbq hot off the smoker. Get you some! read more

I feel a little bit guilty not giving this restaurant 5 stars. The food is definitely amazing. The pulled pork is outstanding, and the choice of two sauces (red and white) are excellent. I prefer red, and the sauce really reminded me of one of my favorite BBQ joints growing up in Tennessee. The sides were good too. The beans and slaw were good standards, and the Brunswick stew is interesting if that's your thing. The mac 'n cheese is flavorful, but ends up being a little too oily. The only thing that prevents me from giving this place 5 stars is the general ambiance. It's in a strip mall next to a publix, and while there is a little bit of outdoor seating, it's pretty bare bones. I realize this is hard to control, but it just has to be recognized for what it is. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would, and I'll probably head back to see if they can earn that 5th and final star with their delicious food and great service. read more

After maybe a couple dozen trips back, the guy who has spent a lifetime in pursuit of the perfect barbecue, has decided that the right thing to do is to give Righteous Barbecue its fiftth star. Why? Not because eveerythig they have there is world class, but because what they have there is the best brisket to be found north of Lockhart, Texas. Order it "full flavor" and grab one of their too few tables and enjoy brisket as it was meant to be... moist, nice bark and a rich, but not overwhelming smoke flavor Yes, they have other things on their menu (see original rveiew), but why waste time with their second, third and fourth best offerings when you can enjoy their signature dish... that which folks are willing to stand in line for... and tell their friends about. My only hang-up about Righteous 'Que is that they still serve up their food in those silly little take home styrofoam boxes - and as good as their brisket is, I gotta believe it'd taste even better over a thin slice of white bread on a plate. One other thing, the owners, live their restaurant's name and donate a percentage of their profits to a number of charities of all sorts. That alone wouldn't make me drive across town to eat there, but it's good that they do. read more

I tried Righteous Que today in my quest to find the best Brunswick stew in EC. This is it. I've tried the stew at all the other places and this is far and away the best. In fact, it makes my top three for Brunswick stew, which is saying something, until today, it was only a top two. I am insanely picky about my stew and there's hits almost ever thing on my list. The one thing they missed is it's a bit chunkier than I usually like, but the taste is fantastic enough that I'm able to overlook that small misstep. I had the pork plate the stew and greens. The greens were good, but the pork.....wowza. I hate when you go to bbq places and you don't get any bark, which is how most places serve it. (WHY???? It's SO good!!!) Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised to find bark in with the meat and the flavor of the rub was so well complemented by their sauce. This is my new go to place! read more

Finding good BBQ seems to be getting harder here in Marietta. My usual go to places have been a major disappointment lately. So we tried Righteous and were very surprised. Small restaurants in strip malls typically let me down. That was not the case here. On our visit the wife and I played it safe and order the pork sandwich, she had the potato salad and I had the mac and cheese. After testing the sauces we agreed the red was better than the white even though both were excellent. The pork was terrific and the mac and cheese was delicious. I had to try the banana pudding and it left a big smile on my face. Only one thing could of made the experience any better and that would have been a cold beer. Well done Righteous! read more

Yeeple. You've steered me wrong :( Tried the chicken plate with Mac and a sweet potato. Sweet potato was the best thing of the day. Chicken was the worst. Moist but under flavored. They use a dry run but nothing permeated the meat. Also had a pound of brisket which had good bark (essential) but not enough fat to keep it tender (equally essential!) Not to mention that sitting there eating listening to acapella pop made me feel like I was eating in the Glee campus cafeteria. Not in a good way. The good: Reasonable priced. Great flavor on the brisket. Really good brunswick stew. The bad: Offered either lean or fatty meat. I opted for half and half since the kid working commented the lean was a bit dry. The fatty brisket was literally just chunks of fat. Mac 'n cheese had good flavor but come on, everyone knows the best mac 'n cheese is the one that doesn't use macaroni (see: BBQ1). Don't let the name fool you. The ugly: When you taste salt, they're using way too much. I don't know if they are just using big grain salt on the brisket or what but it was unpleasant. The brisket was literally weighted to the ounce before serving. I wouldn't have minded if it was a nice portion but it wasn't much meat at all. Antithetical to the spirit of barbeque. I had a horrible experience here. The place was open, but they didn't have ribs ready? Are you open? Are you a bbq place? If so, then you should have your menu items ready. Ok, so first let me say: great food, terrible (first) customer experience. Unfortunately, for that reason I had to give less stars. Curious? Read on. :) My sis was in town and we were craving bbq. She found this place on Yelp. We went in the evening, for dinner, about 90 minutes before closing. Unfortunately, they were out of almost all side dishes. Listen, I know this happens but when it's inexcusable is when you're informed of this by an employee with a condescending and snarky attitude saying "it's too late to make more." Huh?! You're 90 mins out, you just don't want to be bothered. You're not completely out. That's ridiculous. Not to mention there were 3 other unhelpful employees standing around doing nothing while one person prepped/packaged another order and a line is forming. Again, with attitude we were told we'd have to wait. Duh! I see you. I thought that was strange. So, given the initial experience I wasn't too hopeful about this place. I "settled" for side dishes I didn't want and it wasn't cheap. But OMG THE FOOD REDEEMED the crappy customer service!!!! Like, wow. I ordered the pork plate. It was very tender and very, very flavorful. I also got potato salad and baked beans and they were both very good. Speaking of the beans, they literally were scrapping the bottom of the pan for my sister's plate. I thought that was tacky. Y'all, I'm not a complaintive person usually. I only nitpick when I'm treated wrongly. My sister had the chicken and was equally satisfied with her food. This review is long overdue. We have been going here a few years after trying their BBQ at a festival and hearing others rave about it. Good BBQ is hard to come by and we have been disappointed many times with other places. Not this place. The BBQ is perfect, the owners really cares about his customers and the staff, with the exception of one older guy, is wonderful and if you're a regular, they will remember you and your order as well. My only suggestion is that maybe if they expand, is to add more sides. read more

My wife and I went there tonight as we were in the mood for BBQ and didn't want to drive out to Sams BBQ 1. We noticed that Richteous 'Que was in our hood and headed over. I am not sure why folks were complaining about the sides as the brunswick stew was excellent and so was the mac n cheese. The gentlemen behind the counter offered to allow my wife and I to sample the sides before making our selection which was very kind. The meat (we both had pulled pork) had a very distinct hickory/smokey flavoring. The portion size for the meat was generous when compared to similar establishments. I found the pricing to be fair as well. We shall definitely be back to sample some of their other meats, the chicken looked very tasty as well! Only thing I will say is it was very very quiet inside they might do well to add some low background music. read more

The food was okay, but ...I would like to rate the ribs or the brisket but they had already sold out and we were there at 5:30 on a Friday night. We ate in, but the guy still used a ton of styrofoam to pack everything individually. I think that is so they can make sure you don't get more than the small side cup can hold. They measure out the weight of meat on a scale right in front of you, and our guy actually took a small piece of meat off the scale to tear it in half to guarantee I did not get 0.001 lbs more than I paid for. You will not get enough food for the amount of money you spend. The most disappointing part was that all the sides (although small in size) were better than the bland pork I was served. They offer two sauces: one "white" sauce that tastes like warn ranch dressing (I have no clue what anyone would want to put this stuff on) and a grocery store brand tasting BBQ sauce. Another disappointment,I ordered the plate, so I got my small pile of meat and NO bread. They do not give, nor have white bread to give you with their meat (isn't that a sin?) To finish off this lack luster experience in a restaurant with zero atmosphere, we ordered the banana pudding because someone on Yelp recommended it. I guess it was okay if you like eating banana pudding WITHOUT ANY BANANAS in it. read more

I cannot believe I didn't try out this place any sooner! It's fantastic! I had always eyed it when shopping at the store next door, but thought maybe it was part of a bigger chain and wouldn't be like homestyle. Yeah - I was so wrong! I love their bbq pork sandwich on a bun with the red sauce. The Mac n cheese is out of this world yummy and the Brunswick stew is as southern as it gets. It's become my Saturday go to! As far as people complaining about the service - there are some younger folks working there... in all likelihood it's their first working experience or close to it. I have found everyone to be appropriately kind and helpful, if not extremely accommodating - there was an older gentleman there that I overheard saying he was a teacher (I think), he was awesome! Additionally, there's only a very brief amount of time there's any interaction because it's quick service. Also, in their defense, people complaining about them running out of certain meats or menu items - cut them some slack! They are a small business in a location where Id guess the rent is quite high. If they were to receive a couple large unexpected orders, of course it's going to wipe them out and it's likely they only have so much prepped and don't want to have any or much waste at the end of the day. Just order something else - it's all yummy! People just need to chill out and not have such ridiculously high expectations. read more

I have yet to find better brisket than Righteous Que's! Their sauce is also delicious. It's tangy, and a little sweet. It's a perfect compliment to the smoky brisket. I usually get mac-n-cheese or collards and tater salad on the side--all are great! The mac n cheese is gooey and has a tangy "something extra" (ranch? italian dressing?) in there that I can't quite place, but find myself craving. Their baked beans are just "okay", and I am not too crazy about their pork and chicken--but that could just be because I LOVE their brisket so much! One criticism is that their serving sizes for the sides are not consistent. Sometimes it's enough, but more often, it seems like they're too small. I guess it depends on who serves you, but it is a little frustrating to splurge on a meal and then feel like you didn't get enough. Overall, I love this place! I took a friend from California to get some good southern Q but unfortunately this was not the place. The pork was flavorless, mushy and luke-warm. The collard greens were also below serving temperature and cold greens are gross. Lastly, I tasted the brisket and it was dry and also not very warm. Was hoping for ribs but they ran out earlier. This place is great for picking up quick BBQ to go but we ate in and I really wish they had given us regular plates and utensils to eat. I almost felt like they used disposable containers just so they didn't have to give you that many sides. The food was standard bbq food, nothing too exciting, but yet nothing too concerning. Just normal BBQ food. I really wish something would have stood out, but I saw that there was a BBQ baked sweet potato on the menu so I will be sure to try that out next time I'm around the area. read more

Most Sunday afternoons at my house you will find between 10 and 20 people eating over. Our deck is over 1000 sq. ft. and I have a Big Green Egg and a Treager and an 8 foot bbq with a canopy. That being said I'm not trying to brag but rather show that when I bbq it aint my first rodeo. We were visiting our daughter in Marietta, Ga. and my wife started searching on her phone for good southern country food or bbq. The reviews for Righteous Que were really favorable so we decided to give it a shot. We ordered the brisket and some ribs with green beans, mac n cheese, collard greens and banana pudding for dessert. From the first bite I knew I had nothing on these guys (time for some humble pie). Everything was melt in your mouth perfect and tender. The sauces were spot on and the white bbq sauce wowed my wife. The veggies were delicious and the banana pudding was nirvana in a cup. To say the least we bought the rest of our family dinner from there two days later. Righteous is the right name for this place because the food is heavenly. read more

Very good bbq chicken and ribs. Excellent cole slaw and Mac and cheese. Great sauces and buns. However, Willie jewels has better pulled pork. Also they run out of a lot of items at lunch and dinner times which is annoying. They weigh all meat portion sizes to the exact weight which is pretty stingy. The employees also always seem like they don't want to be there. Just not a very comfortable place to walk into. So I want to love this place bc I live so close and the food is above average but they seem too stubborn to change. read more
