I do most of my own work, but have occasionally used this shop for my commuter if it needs major work and have been satisfied with what has been done. I mainly utilize their retail sales for bags, clothes, accessories, etc. They apparently have a warehouse by their Issaquah branch and have an online ordering platform with a huge amount of inventory - much more than is physically available at the store. I've been able to get some difficult-to-find-online stuff here over the past couple years of supply chain weirdness. So if you're wondering if they have something, check online or just ask; you might be pleasantly surprised. read more

I came in to Ride Bicycles with a broken spoke and was asked if I could leave my bike for two days. Because I needed my bike that day I said no. The representative who helped me went back to the mechanic to see what could be done and returned to tell me they could fix the spoke and that it would take 10 minutes. I was pleased until she mentioned the cost. At first I thought she said $15, which I was reasonable. Upon further inquiry, I learned the price was actually $50.00 :-( For those of you out there keeping score, minus the $1.59 for the actual spoke, Ride Bicycle was paid the equivalent of $270/hour ($45 X 10min) to install a $1.49 spoke. In the future, I will probably just take the bus home until I can find a bike shop that is a bit more reasonably priced. read more

Awesome experience here. I came here with my partner to shop for a bike for him. I asked if they had anything in my size, just out of curiosity. We both went out for a test ride and loved the bikes, had to buy it. They were neat bikes and well priced, I'd been looking around for a while and didn't think I'd find something I liked at a doable price. They were able to get lights and fenders added to my bike within a day. Because I'm not a super experienced cyclist, they were nice enough to give me plenty of tips on how go use the gears and wear in the new brakes no problem. A Lesson To Learn The rep who spoke with me was an honest, decent guy who I would have liked to buy from if he had had what I needed. He didn't. Why only 2 stars? The rest of the story... Their Web site suggests they focus on commute bikes among others, which was why I went out of my way to center my day around going to their store. Within 60 seconds after arriving, it became clear that that was wrong, as by their own admission they focus on "gravel bikes" and little else. So unless you are a kid wanting to mess around in your bike off road, this isn't your bike store. Oh, and by the way, they don't take trade-ins. So you won't get help paying the price for a new bike, and you will need to sell your current bike yourself with all the risks (like meeting with people you don't know) pertaining. I don't recall seeing this policy on their Web site, at least not in a conspicuous place. If you are a small operation with small space and small resources, the better approach is to become the superstar in a specific niche, like, THE place for gravel bikes. And don't try to be all things to all people. Also, customize your Web site so it is clear to everyone what they can expect to find in your store, vs. what they will be better off trying to find elsewhere. It's the wrong psychology to mislead people just to get them into a store. People just don't shop as a leisure activity much anymore, and they don't quickly forget those merchants who wasted their time. I like these people and believe they are basically honest and decent, but I believe they need to learn a lesson and tune their act. As for you, if your bike riding doesn't much take you to gravel, shop elsewhere. read more

Ride is an awesome shop full of friendly, knowledgeable staff who've gone above and beyond. I bought a Surly this past summer from them and had a great experience ordering a size they didn't carry with custom components - Kyla made it easy to find the appropriate size and build even though they didn't have it in stock. They had it built quickly and at a fair price. Even more, they were helpful advocates for my wife whose bike (recently purchased in another city) had a defect from the manufacturer. We first went to a local shop who said they couldn't help us because they didn't sell us the bike. We drove across town to Ride because of the quality of service last summer. Even though they didn't sell us her bike, Christiaan and Joseph negotiated with the manufacturer, who initially refused to pay for the work, and talked them into covering it. She walked away with the bike in the condition it should've been in without paying a dime. We've been really impressed and appreciative of the hard work and help from the team at Ride and will definitely make the trek across town to go back! read more

This is the best bike shop I've been in in Seattle. Granted, I haven't been to all the bike shops but I've been to a few and RB and their employees are a combination of the following qualities - a combination which is extremely unique in the cycling world: ego-less helpful knowledgeable skilled friendly They also really want you to be happy with your bike and will take the time to talk with you about what you want and research options. The first time I came to Ride Bicycles was to collect some Bike Bingo prizes. I ended up also buying some amazing gear: a rechargeable bike light that makes *me* visible while biking (because of little yellow side lights), and also makes things visible up to several feet away; a great helmet; and skewers for my wheels. The same skewers actually prevented a thief from taking off with my back wheel recently. They managed to, after some work, loosen it, but couldn't get away with it, and only stole the back fender: a much cheaper theft than that of a wheel! Ride Bicycles has very competent staff who offer you great advice on what would work best for your bike. They also notice anything else that you can add to make your ride safer/more comfortable. I'm a big fan, and highly recommend this place to anyone else. They definitely are pricier than what I'd like to pay for the stuff. But since I don't do bike repairs that often (about once a year) I'm okay with it. read more

Ok, so I'm a bike-riding newbie looking for a reasonable bike that will get me around town and provide a littIe excercise. I had been in a couple of other well-known bike shops in town. Both of which really didn't seem to want to spend much time with me to help me find a good beginner bike. When I walked into Ride Bicycles, I felt much more comfortable asking questions and having a conversation about what I wanted. The employee actually offered that I try riding a few bikes to get a feel for them! What a novel idea! No one at any other shop had even come close to suggesting that! I ended up buying a used rental bike that has suited my needs perfectly! The folks at Ride Bicycles will help you! They will take their time with you and make sure that you are happy with your purchase. They really want all people to explore bike riding more. They don't have the attitude that bike riding is only for the too-cool hipsters, but for everyone! While I was there, many people stopped in looking for bikes and getting work done on their bikes. You could tell that the customer service at this place will last long after your initial purchase is complete. As I left, the owner told me, "Don't be a stranger!" This place is great-- for renting or purchasing! I've rented from here twice, both times was given good bikes and great customer service. They provide renters with a helmet, bike lock, handlebar pouch and map and are conveniently located to do Green Lake or the Burke gilman trail. As I was in there I was browsing for a bike to purchase. Each time, I asked LOTS of questions and the guys answered each and were super helpful; Chris was especially great. They have a fit guarantee and are willing to swap handlebar stems, etc to make it work for you. And if you don't like the bike you pick, you have a 14-day window to exchange. I went to a lot of bike stores before making my purchase, and this place had the best customer service by far. I'd highly recommend them! read more

This shop is great. I came into the shop with a noisy saddle that I thought I'd tried everything to solve; I'd tried greasing, tightening, and loosening bolts with no luck. Ride Bicycles is awesome! My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday by taking me here to get my first road bike. He'd found this shop by the great reviews on Yelp. They did not disappoint! Joseph was so extremely helpful. This was my first road bike so I didn't know what to expect or what would suit me best. With his recommendations and a couple test rides, we found the perfect one, a Torker Interurban. And after a couple months of riding, I don't think there was a more perfect bike for me. They were pretty busy when we were there but Joseph still gave us a lot of time and attention. He also gave me good advice with maintaining and caring for my bike. Although I'd hate for any problems to come up with my bike, I'm at least comfortable knowing that I can bring it in and they will continue to go above and beyond to keep bikes and their owners happy! read more

Christiaan saved me! I was on my way to work when I realized something was wrong with my bike. Though I pass several bike shops on my route down Roosevelt none of them seem to be open during the morning commute. Suddenly I came across a brand new shop and it was open! Turns out this store had been there only 2 days, which explains why I'd never seen it before. Christaan took a look at my bike and immediately determined the problem and fixed in in a few minutes. He is very helpful, knowledgable and I highly recommend a visit to the store. I had just had my bike tuned somewhere else, and now I really wish I hadn't bothered because it wsa a bad tune. Boom! I rented a carbon full suspension mountain bike here for the day. It was the cheapest day rental in the Seattle area. The owner handled the transaction and then set my bike up! I've rented several bikes before but never felt comfortable on the trail with them. This bike was set up perfect and I was finally able to carve up the single track! One oddity of my rental experience was the insurance. There is none! You have to use your renters/home owners insurance if something happens! They essentially make you buy the bike then you deal with it. Fair enough but an oddity. read more

Owner actually works the floor and was extremely helpful, pleasant, and I felt he was genuinely trying to help me find what I was looking for and I did not feel pushed for the sale. I had a horrible experience in this shop. I have a cheap road bike that I use to get to class and I brought it in for a tune up. The people working made it clear to me in a very condescending way that I did not know what I was doing. I came here as a novice cyclist looking to purchase a bike for commuting. During the power outage on August 29, 2015 I broke my chain while tooling around observing the damage in Shoreline, I called the shop and they were fortunately open. We moved into the Roosevelt/Ravenna neighborhood a few months ahead of Ride Bicycles' opening, but I hadn't had a chance to check them out until now. I'm so glad I did! My husband and I had gone to another Roosevelt bike shop a few months ago to ask them to switch out a pedal on my hybrid (we didn't know that righty-tighty doesn't work to loosen the left pedal, oops! Darn you, Wright Brothers) and the guy there seemed upset that we were bothering him--so I decided next time I had an issue, I'd give Ride Bicycles a try. Turns out I got my chance with another stubborn pedal on my "new" (used from Craigslist) road bike --this time, we knew which way to unscrew it but our po-dunk little pedal wrench just couldn't get the job done. Hopped on my bike for the 5-minute jaunt to Ride Bicycles on a sunny afternoon. What a wonderful little shop! I can't quite remember the name of the person who helped me--don't think it was Christiaan, might have been Chris? But he and his colleague (Kimo?) greeted me warmly as soon as I walked in, and I asked if they would charge for switching out a pedal. He said it wouldn't cost anything and immediately took off one of the bikes on the rack to make room for mine, showed me the gargantuan pedal wrench that they used, and with a quick flip of the wrist it was all over. (And we were sweating blood trying to get that thing off for an hour last night, I'm telling you...) While he installed the new pedal, we talked about my bike and he noted that the wheels were fantastic (I had no idea), and discussed the pros and cons of road pedals, which I was replacing with SPD. Chris, if that was his name, did an excellent job of "teaching" me as a customer about my bike, without making me feel like an ignorant novice (which I actually am). I've never been treated with so much respect in any Seattle bike shop before, and I've been to quite a few of the independent ones. Most places make me feel like I'm 12 years old riding a banana-seat bike with streamers on the handles or something. We also talked about puncture-proof tires since my husband has those, and he showed me some of my options and explained their benefits without using a "sales pitch." I came away feeling like I'd learned a lot without even trying, and I was sold on the place--told them I'd definitely be back! I was looking for a used bike because I need something for riding around the city but I don't really want to spend more than $200. The guy working there was very nice and helpful, though sadly they didn't seem to have anything that cost less than $400-$450 and didn't really have any used bikes. I was expecting a much larger store when trying to find this place, but it was a small one room place. If you're looking for a large selection for a low price this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking for a quality bike and are willing to spend the money, the people who work there are very friendly and helpful and I'm sure would be more than willing to find the perfect bike for you. I also saw the employee working on a custom bike that looked great, so if that's what you're looking for I believe they would be great for that also. This just wasn't the place for me. read more

Made a reservation for a weekend performance mountain bike rental, but when my buddy had to cancel the trip I sadly had to cancel too. Called to let Ride Bicycles know and was told the boss man (Christian) wasn't available but he'd call me back shortly. With most places (Performance, Gregg's, Recycled, etc), I'd usually have to go through a maze of retail items before finding someone who could help me, and then I'd be directed somewhere else, and all the while being treated in a cold, professional manner. Christiaan said Hi as soon as I walked in, and started chatting with me about my broken crankset, and then the different things he could order to replace it, and then about his shop and his vision for the place, and soon we were friends. That's what separates Ride Bicycles from the rest: you're buying from a person who has a vision of a world powered by bicycles, not a business interested only in profit. Wow. These guys were awesome. I just got a bike on CL and wanted to have it checked out for safety before riding it. I went into Ride on a whim on a Saturday afternoon and they fixed it up right then. Everyone that works there is super nice and extremely knowledgeable and the guy who worked on my bike answered a billion questions. He worked on my bike for about 30 minutes and got me set up to go for $30! I want to bring my bike back to leave with them for a few days to get the full set up and service which I think starts at $85 and he said they'd deduct the $30 I already paid which is great too. So nice to be treated so well by the staff and it really motivated me to get out and start riding again. I have found my bike shop! read more

I'm a novice bike rider - mainly up to the store, the occassional trail [like John Wayne or Burke Gilman]. The chain came off my bike during a move & I couldn't get it back on without grease all over my hands. Called up, talked to the nice clerk who also suggested I may need a mini-tune up if the chain coming off may have messed stuff up. Came in & was expecting to have to leave it overnight. Nope. Chain back on in 5min. Air in the tires. I like to think I know something about bikes, I could just be delusional. I first went to ride about 6 months ago and already knew what I was looking for. Christian and his staff were extremely helpful at helping me get the bike I wanted. I have purchased many bikes from many shops and one thing I do not like is when I go in and tell them what I am looking for and instead they try and sell me what they have and even when I insist on what I want, they insist on telling me what I need, usually the brand or stock they carry. Christian did not do this, he was helpful and helped me find the bike I was looking for. In the end he had to order it but it was all the same to him. About two months ago the bearings in one of the pedals broke and I went into the shop to buy another pair, I rode around on them for about a day and realized I did not like them, again Christian was helpful, he took them back and traded them out for a better pair, of course after I paid the difference. So far the service has been excellent and so has the conversation while I wait for my bike to be serviced. I feel that the prices were fair and if you don't know what you are looking for or are not sure if riding a bike is for you, they will not try to sell you something you do not need. Usually I buy from REI for the dividend but the staff at Ride Bicycles were so knowledgable and considerate of my needs that I decided to think twice. The lady at REI was nice but didnt seem to know much or even go too far out of her way to help me find what I needed. Christiaan went out of his way and made sure that I got the bike that was best for me without trying to hard sell me on anything. Then one year later when I asked him if I could still get the free tune-up that was promised me when I bought the bike he was true to his word and honored that. This is the first time I've ever felt so strongly about a business/experience that I've been compelled to write a review about them. I can not speak more highly of Ride Bicycles. My boyfriend and I spent a good 4 days researching, calling around, and visiting lots of bike shops in the Seattle area to find a store that offers the bike we were looking for. We knew exactly which model and size we wanted- the Torker U-District, a bike made in Kent, WA. After being ignored completely at some places, told that I could put down a $20 deposit for someone to build a bike they already had in stock and 5-7 days later I could test ride it (yeah, right!) we walked into Ride. The business owner (I later found out) greeted us immediately and asked if we were looking for something specific. He brought down the Torker U-District they had in stock, which wasn't my size, but explained to me that he could order any size and color from the factory in Kent and it could be here within 2 days, and built in one more day. He and another employee there even took the time to explain some details about frame sizing in a completely non-condescending way (recognising that I was less experienced bike purchaser). I gladly put down 1/2 of the price as a deposit, was given a business card with the owner's name and his cell phone number and said I could call if I had any additional questions, and promised a new bike shipped over and built in no more than 3 days. That was at 2 pm on Thursday. I received a phone call at 3 pm on Friday saying that my bike had arrived and was built, ready to go. 25 hours! Seriously! I was blown away! Way to go above and beyond for someone who had never been there before! I will absolutely be back here for every tune up, accessory, and part that I will need as a bike owner in Seattle. I recently moved to Seattle and was looking for a new bike. I want to say I'm an intermediate level rider who understands some stuff about the bike but not everything. The guys at this store helped me out with a Norco Indie 4, patiently answered every single question I had (and I always have many) - made sure the bike was perfect for me before I drove away. I almost felt guilty for not buying some more stuff from them but I really didn't need anything just yet. When I do break something or want to buy something more - I'm going to go over to them for sure though.
