This shop is by far my favorite bicycle shop in Seattle. The staff are all VERY knowledgeable and they always tell it too you straight. The bikes and parts that they sell are good quality and very fairly priced. This is a friendly shop that offers great mechanical service. I haven't used them a lot, because I don't live nearby, but I did rent from them in the past and used them to rebuild a bike. Just very friendly and welcoming, and they tend to stock good value bikes for sale - good quality at decent prices. This is one of the better shops to go to if you are newer to riding, want to ride for low-key recreation or for commuting/transportation and want a reasonable quality bike. Not pushy when it comes to upselling either. Also good for longer-term rentals as they usually have very practical bikes that have the option of panniers, etc., at a good rate (although it has been a few years since I've done that). read more

Great service, great deal and bike runs like a dream

My husband and I visited Ride Bicycles today after I had a sudden whim to buy a bike. I haven't ridden in over ten years and my last experiences were on a pretty heavy bike that just wasn't comfortable for me to ride. I wanted a bike that wasn't too expensive, in case this whim doesn't turn into a lasting activity, and a bike that I would feel comfortable riding. Lucky for me, Ride Bicycles had a Presidents' Day sale going on! We were able to get a great deal on a cute, comfortable bike. They even had a vintage-ish wicker basket for the front and nice helmets to choose from. Chris was so helpful. He was really encouraging, and didn't hard-sell me *at all*. He said you don't have to be a crazy intense bike person - just choose to ride your bike, and the more you do, the more comfortable you'll become. I'm thrilled with my bike and had a fantastic time on the Burke Gilman trail today with my husband. read more

Awesome shop! Stopped in to see if they could true up my rear wheel and Edward did that plus adjusted my rear derailleur and taught me about spoke adjustment! Super nice dude and a super nice shop. Bought an Indie 4. This place was quick to get me a bike in my price range. They also offered me some options slightly higher and lower. I discovered this little (I mean little!) shop last year since I ride past here every day on my way to work. Finally went in for a way-overdue tuneup. Dropped some big bucks since I had neglected maintenance for a while, but I appreciated all they did for me to get me back and running. I think the personal attention you get here is great. At a bigger shop, you'll most likely just leave your bike and they'll let you know later what is to be done. Here, they'll throw your bike right on the stand and tell you all about it, while educating you on all sorts of stuff in the process. Keep it up guys! read more

I was heading out for a 60 mile ride today and realized my bottom bracket was close to locking up. Dropped in to the shop, Gary did a quick assessment and told me he could take care of while I waited. Turns out I needed a new chain and cassette. He took care of all of this in 30 minutes. Unbelievable! Made me feel like a king. Thought I was SOL for my big ride for day, but Gary got me back on the road. Gary is amazing! Not many shops in Seattle that you can drop in and immediately get some big problems fixed while you wait. read more

This place is great! Twice I have come in and the guys there are patient and have spent a lot of time to fit me to the right bike. There was no pressure and they did not scoff at my little bike knowledge. They sell mid-level bikes too $300-$600 as well as some more expensive ones. I could not find good road bikes for this price and quality anywhere else. I finally ended up with a steel commuter / road bike. Great place. read more

Ride has done outstanding maintenance on my bike for a couple of years now. Recently, I was having hydraulic disc brake trouble. They recommended new brakes with Shimano Deore. Ride Bicycles is really great! I usually do not write reviews; but I find their service, knowledge and general kindness to be superb. I bought my bike there about 1-1/2 years ago from Joseph, who was so helpful, encouraging and knowledgeable. Since then, he and Christaan have been caring for my bike as if it were their own. They always check the whole bicycle and find the best solution for my needs--like finding a new gear set to make it a little easier going up hills and teaching me how to check my chain and gears. I have sent several of my friends to Ride Bicycles, and they are now as enthusiastic about the store as I am. I also like that everything in the shop seems so carefully selected...as they do not have a huge space...and I can always find something new and interesting to add to my bike. So I bought a bike last summer - it was my first "high end" bike purchase. Prior to this bike, I had a trek that I bought for 50 bucks on craigslist. I am not a bike expert and I was told to go to Ride because they sell quality bikes and have a fit guarantee. The thing is, they do have great bikes and good prices - and they do seem very knowledgeable - but the problem is, they sold me a bike that is actually a very bad fit for my size and then convinced me that it was a preference issue as opposed to actually being bad for me. I went to another bike shop to see if I could find a replacement bike and when I got on a bike that I liked at the other shop - they immediately told me that it was not a good fit and took a bunch of measurements to help me find the best fitting bike. That's what i expected from Ride. Especially when I mentioned to them that I didn't know much about bikes. Instead - they convinced me the bike I bought was safe for me and then proceeded to sell me parts to make it even more "fitted". But I learned the hard way that those "fixes" to make it more fitted actually went against best practices for bike fitting. They replaced the seat post with one that helped drop the seat to a decent height for me to reach the peddles, but now my back is hurting a great deal from being too low in relation to the handle bars. The standover height ended up being an issue despite being told it's not a big deal - once i had an emergency stop and had to bail off the bike after hurting myself on the bar. While i've never had a good bike, i've always owned a bike that fit me and never got hurt on the cheap bikes I owned. I know how to use a bike pretty well and don't act carelessly. The bike was not a good fit and I'm disappointed that they let me walk out of the store with a bike that was so expensive and yet such a poorly sized bike for my height/proportions. When I asked to return it since it didn't fit properly - i found out that their fit gurantee means they'll sell you another bike, but not refund you if the bike you bought doesn't actually fit. They then proceeded to offer to sell me a different bike that was more expensive and didn't meet the specs of the kind of bike i needed. In the end, I would definitely go somewhere else if you're looking for someone to help guide you in the right direction. I've been to bike shops that won't sell me a bike at all because they don't have one that will fit and they don't want to sell me something that will put me at risk. R&E cycles is a bit more pricey than average bikes, but they will get you the perfect bike for you. Recycled Cycles was amazing as well - they had me try about 8 bikes before they recommended anything and then actually fixed my current bike for next to nothing to hold me over. I'm not saying this place is bad - just saying - be careful and do your homework and research - they won't really give you the guidance you need if you're a newbie. read more

A new player on the bike scene and a great find! Christiaan, the owner, really goes out of his way to find a solution to your bike problem, no matter how crazy the problem is. I went to other shops beforehand, and got the standard shrug if the solution wasn't obvious. Christiaan went online after I had left the shop, resourced solutions for the problem, called me back hours after I had left the shop, and specially ordered a rare part - really going above what you could expect any business or bike shop to do. If he does not have the answer right away, he basically will find the answer and get back to you when he does (as opposed to the standard mantra "out of sight, out of mind" of other shops). So the shop is basically as big as the internet is, because Christiaan and his staff are extremely resourceful at fixing what can go wrong with your bike! read more

I had a great experience buying my bike here last week. The shop owner Christiaan is super helpful and knowledgeable. It was my first time buying a new bike and I had already checked out the major chain retail stores and they didn't have what I was looking for at the price point I wanted. Recently moving from New York, I had been a little wary of independent bike shops (some had a reputation of ripping people off). Ride Bicycles definitely turned out to be pretty trustworthy. They let you try any of the bikes you want which helped me decide. Also, I knew I needed some accessories and Christiaan gave me good advice (best value for my dollar) as well as maintenance advice. The guys are very friendly and they welcomed me to stop by any time for a chain lube or just to chat. I highly recommend them for anyone looking to buy a bike, accessories or get good advice. I will definitely be back in the future for when I decide to upgrade to a road bike, repairs, etc. read more

This is, hands-down, THE BEST bike shop in Seattle (and I've been to most of them). The owner Christiaan is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and welcoming. I purchased a new bicycle there last year, and the staff was incredibly helpful in assisting me to choose the right bike for me, fit it correctly, and be sure I walked out the door excited to ride. These guys are great - I had a lot of (novice) questions for them and they took the time to patiently provide me with information and suggestions to ensure I was fitted for the right road bike. I was looking for a simple road bike to scoot around Seattle (and potentially train for a triathlon) - I appreciated that they didn't automatically show me the most expensive model, but took my needs into consideration and allowed me plenty of time to test various models around the neighborhood. They didn't have my size built in the model I was interested in but had one available that they built up and had ready for me the the next day. Overall, a great experience. read more

Christian at Ride Bicycles went above and beyond for an order of mine. I was recently in the market for a new laptop messenger bag. After calling numerous bike shops in Seattle I found that nobody carried it. Christian at Ride offered to order it and waive any shipping fees. 2 days after placing my order I was due to fly out of town for the weekend and I called on the off chance that it had been delivered so I could use it on my trip. It hadn't been delivered, but Christian figured out that it was on his delivery man's truck. The only problem was the delivery man wasn't in the neighborhood. Nevertheless, Christian hopped on a bike, rode out to meet him, picked up my bag and had it to me in time to catch my 3:30 flight. Absolutely top-notch. read more

I live in Bellingham and finally had to go to Seattle for another reason and stopped by their shop for a test ride. the owner of the store, Christiaan, was extremely soft sell. I feel he was definitely interested in filling my needs. His employees were also very knowledgeable and helpful. After a few test rides and conversations with these guys, I bought the bike and brought it home to Bellingham. I have had it for over a month now and love the bike and feel I have this bike shop on my side if I need any assistance in the future. i know little about bikes, but i've been to a handful of shops in seattle. ride bicycles is the smallest, most hole in the wall of all the shops that i've been to, but the service, selection, quality of selection is among the best. after months of test riding, i finally bought a torker commuter bike from them yesterday and could not be happier. christian, one of the owners, really took care of me and made sure the fit was right before sending me out. appreciated the extra care and am glad to have supported the dude. they are more than willing to price match, so don't let prices stop you from checking them out. read more
