This was my first time dining here, despite working downtown for years. The menu looks appetizing and I had trouble deciding what to get. The Brussels sprouts shareable was huge and delicious. Very crispy and full of flavor. I had the Mahi with rice and asparagus and it was a great choice. The tortellini soup was bland and disappointing. The only reason I did not give 4 stars was the service. It was not very busy and it took a very long time to be acknowledged, the food took forever, and everyone was served except me for several minutes. I wanted to take a photo of my meal but I was so hungry by the time it arrived that I dug in before I could. The shrimp street corn was good, but I expected more corn on it. I wanted to try the garden gimlet but they were out of a few cocktails. The smoked rosemary drink was worth it, though. Overall, I will come back to try some more dishes. read more

Went here during lunch. Service was excellent!! The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave great suggestions. She was very attentive which I appreciate being a former waitress myself. They have lunch specials where for 4 dollars you can have a drink (not alcohol) and a side added to sandwiches. These items are marked in the menu for you to see. I had a salmon sandwich with salt and pepper fries. It was very good!! For an appetizer we had a bbq chicken pizza that was on special. My boyfriend and I walked in without reservations on the Friday night before Christmas. Of course there were no tables but lucky for us the bar was essentially empty. The restaurant is well decorated. A nice quartz or granite too for the bar (I'm not sophisticated enough to tell the difference) and all the tile and tables and decor go together well. It gives off a very modern but cozy vibe that the open view of the kitchen reinforces. We got a few of their cocktails, the whiskey sour, the fire if 1845, and the pear martini. All were delicious, but my favorite was the fire if 1845 because I like spicy. There aren't a ton of vegetarian options but they do exist. Everything on the menu looked amazing. My boyfriend got the impossible burger and fries and I got a regular burger and chips. Both were huge and absolutely delicious. Between chips and fries, definitely choose fries. The chips were REALLY good but the fries were way better. This place is slightly bout if the way. Not in the cultural district and not right on the square, but it's more than worth the minimal walk to get there. Highly recommend for a high end atmosphere and high end signature cocktails on a not so high end budget. The burgers were very affordable. The other steakhouse options were priced more on par with a typical steakhouse, maybe a little less pricey. Oh and they use paper straws which is a nice environmentally friendly touch. read more

I came here - well, to Revel specifically - earlier this week for dinner with a family member, and we were very happy with our meal here. The ambience was great, the decor chic, and the photo displays of old Pittsburg (nope, that's not a typo!) were something that any good Pittsburgher will appreciate. The service was also exceptionally prompt - our water glasses were never empty, and we were asked about the state of our cocktails more times than I can count. Food-wise, my dining buddy ordered the salmon sandwich - she got a massive square of fresh salmon presented on a big bun. It was one of the freshest and tastiest fish sandwiches I've had in a while, and was immediately a winner in our books. I on the other hand ordered their shrimp and lobster gumbo, as well as a spinach salad that came with bacon lardon, pickled shallot, mushrooms, deviled quail egg, and bacon vinaigrette. I added chicken atop that glorious salad for good measure, and every bite that I ate equaled a mouthful of "yum". The gumbo had the perfect amount of kick to go along with its flavor, and while the chicken was slightly well done around the edges it was still tender and tasted great atop that ensemble of salad toppings. Any place that can add its own spin to a plain old spinach salad gets mad props from me, and Revel + Roost certainly succeeded in doing so. For good measure, the great cocktails meant that both of us were able to drink our dessert during dinner - I ordered a Jacks, because 'tis the weather for fireball whiskey. And it was goooooood, assuming you like fireball of course. My dining buddy's Maple Fashioned was admittedly not the tastiest version of the beverage I've ever had, but it was respectable nonetheless. Great food, fantastic service and a lovely looking restaurant make for a killer dining spot. It gets a bit loud here, so that's the only thing I would caution against if that's not something you go for at dinner. We'll see if I make it to Roost in the future, but the chances are good that I'll at least dine at Revel again! read more

My cousins and I had brunch at Revel this morning. The service was horrendous, and our food took forever! We ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches, and it took close to an hour before we received them. The restaurant wasn't that busy either. It was one bizarre excuse after the next as to the delay. Once received, the sandwiches were subpar at best. Thankfully, the manager comped our meal. The entrees were delayed, in fact they sat under heat lamps for close to 30 minutes before they were served. They were warm at best and my Cod entree was cold I sent it backed to be heated up and 20 minutes later it still wasn't served. We had a great experience with Revel to go last week. We placed the order and headed to pick it up shortly after. The staff were so friendly both on the phone and in person. They each thanked me for my business. We ordered the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich, the salmon salad, the bavarian pretzel, and the kids crispy chicken and fries. Everything transferred well to home. My husband said it was close to, if not, the best chicken he has had in his life. My salmon salad was good- I actually really liked the pistachios in it. No complaints from my 4 year old either. The soft pretzel was tasty. As much as I want to like it, I think I'm just not a fan of beer cheese. Nothing against Revel! The only thing that is kind of a pain about to go orders is the fact that there really isn't anywhere to pull up and park. My husband drove around market square while I ran in and picked it up. A great spot in downtown Pittsburgh. Was able to get a reservation here with Open Table last night. It had been a few years since I was last here. The staff was very friendly and they accommodated us even when we arrived pretty early (much appreciated on a rainy night). The service was so good, our waiter was awesome. We tried some of the cocktails, they have a very unique selection. The "Fire of 1845" was aptly named, probably one of the spiciest drinks I've ever had. We tried the Blue Crab Dip to start, that was good, maybe a little too crabby. I like that they offer a "Revel Mixed Grill" where you get to mix and match proteins and sides. I had the flank steak which was excellent and the Brussels sprouts were so good too. Prices are very reasonable. Would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

Went for brunch. Ordered chicken and waffles. Plate looked beautiful. Chicken was cold and dry (how do you manage to have a dry chicken thigh??). Im not sure the waffles are made there because they taste exactly like the ones in cellophane by the ding dongs and little Debby snack cakes at the grocery. Again...cold and dry is the theme. The eggs were cooked there because they were only half cooked. Had to just scrape those and anything they touched to the side. Coffee was good and service was fine. Good location and atmosphere, but I couldn't say the same about the food. Two friends and I came here for brunch a few weeks ago. I had the eggs benedict, which ended up being a poor choice. First, it was completely underwhelming. There were no sides; it was just the eggs, so the plate in front of me looked quite plain. The crab tasted odd and unpleasantly dry. There was a burnt layer of...something...on top of the already bitter biscuits, which made each bite extra unpleasant. Not sure if that was intentional, but I was really not a fan of the burnt taste. Believe the reviews about bad service. Their system is clearly broken. Party of 9; sat us 20 minutes past out reservation time, okay, no big deal, but...we sat for another 15 minutes and NO one came over to our table.. in that time one table around us had one visit from a server. Very few servers on the floor, no bus service as many patrons had tables full of empty plates and glasses that should have been cleared; quite a few red flags. At this point, it was now almost 9 pm and we decided to leave. Right after we left I got a call from the manager (had my number through the reservation) offering to make it right if we wanted to come back. While I appreciated the call, at that point, no one in the party was interested, besides we weren't convinced it would actually be better. Few things flatten a dining experience like a tired buffet, this one was definitely weary. At the carving station my request for prime rib was met with a super thin slice of overcooked tastelessness that the attendant proceeded to dip into the juices using his fingers; French toast was basically warm, stale bread with a little egg flavoring; I had really been looking forward to plundering the fresh seafood station but the much anticipated oysters on the half shell were thin and barely distinguishable from the water they were soaking in. Very, very poor quality for $65 a head plus automatic 22% gratuity -- a glass of Diet Coke was $4 add on. don do it under any circumstance. read more

I previously left a great review of this restaurant - but today left me underwhelmed to say the least. We stopped in around 3:30pm to grab a small bite to eat before meeting friends down the road. My friend ordered a soup and appetizer and I chose a Cobb salad and asked to sub out the grilled chicken for salmon. Below is the result - $10 up charge for a salmon filet atop a salad seems a BIT much. If the salad didn't offer meat to begin with I could maybe better understand the cost. The waiter didn't at all indicate that an up-charge may occur, I fully expected a few dollars, but not $10 additional! Not impressed at all!!!! Maybe explains the empty dining room. read more

I would say this is a 2.5 star kind of place. I've been here twice, once for happy hour and once for a weekday lunch. I enjoy some things about this place - great location near Market Square, big open layout, nice selection of beers and cocktails. But things kinda fall apart when it comes to the food. It's not bad, per se.... just uninspired, boring, bland, and inconsistent. When I came during lunch, the fries were burnt. A colleague and I both ordered the Chicken BLTA wraps - hers had comically huge chunks of avocado while mine had two tiny slivers. My wrap was also loaded up with lettuce and skimpy on the chicken, especially for the price. I probably would not come back here for the food... there are plenty of better restaurants downtown nowadays. But I would come back here for drinks or happy hour. read more

I have never been to a restaurant where the owner sat aside and let his staff suffer. He refused to turn the air on while the humidity level was over 90. The servers were sweating and apologized profusely. However, the dictator manager refused to turn on the air. We unfortunately had to leave because numerous ladies were stuck to their seats. I'll never eat or get a drink here again. Let me emphasize the servers were amazing. Smiled and were great I just wish the manager had more respect for people that showed up. read more

Fantastic experience! The food was amazing and the service was phenomenal. It's not often you find affordable, flavorful food downtown during happy hour. This is my third or fourth time here and every time it seems to get better. Cheap, quality food and drinks make this a must-go for your next happy hour. I highly recommend the brick oven pizza or the tempura shrimp tacos if your looking for something light on your stomach and wallet. The Lemeiux Carré cocktail had a perfect balance of sweet and sour and there were a handful or so of drafts in special. Revel has yet to disappoint. I'm glad we decided to come here as a last minute option for food and drinks. Come here and I guarantee you will love whatever it is you need to satisfy your thirst and hunger. read more

My only visit to this place was a breakfast stop when I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn with which this establishment is affiliated. They did not run it in a typical manner as most HGI restaurants and I actually enjoyed the experience more because of it. The most striking thing about this place is the decor, which is very nicely done with windows allowing views of the downtown activity that surrounds it. It was actually one of the more pleasant atmospheres I have experienced, at least at that quiet breakfast hour. The food was very good and the service was likewise above average. I was intrigued and will be curious to try this place for dinner next time I am in Pittsburgh. read more

Well I was looking for nicer places to eat and drink around where I was and I found this place. It seemed unique to me which is why I decided to stop in. First of all, it looked like it was closed. There was one small group of older ladies there. They left a few minutes after us and then it was just me and my boyfriend... I saw a picture of a bloody mary on the front sign and decided upon walking in that thats what I wanted. It looked nothing like the picture though, which was disappointing. It was small and only garnished with a lemon, lime and olive. Upon initially ordering, I wanted the chicken panini but was told it wasnt ready? What? It was about 2 o clock in the afternoon I was there soooo not a good sign...I ended up with the fried quail and waffles. It sounded interesting so I went for it. The quail was pretty good, lightly battered and fried. The waffle tasted fresh and homemade. It came with a side of spicy syrup which was good. What I didn't like; the entree was topped with what tasted like pickled green beans (which tasted like garbage) and a random pickled carrot which after tasting the green bean I didn't even bother tasting. The carrot and green beans were so out of place, they brought the entire dish down. I had some of my boyfriends salmon burger and fries which were pretty good. Mistake. Nothing special, the bun was burnt on the sandwhich. Missing some of the ingredients described on the menu. The hamburger was supposed to be special because there was short rib in it. I went for dinner & drinks on Friday night. We arrived and sat at the bar, in time for happy hour. The bartender was excellent, explained the specials for us and gave us recommendations. I got a whiskey sour with a lime twist which was great and only $5. My partner got the "Ole Smokey" which was very cool- it arrived with the rosemary on fire and then the drink was poured over it. We got short ribs and Mac & Cheese for dinner, the portions were a bit small, so we also got a side of french fries. The food was super yummy. At 7 a live band started playing which was great! The bartender tonight didn't know that a straight up perfect Manhattan should be shaken with ice before it is served, but the liquor proportions seemed good. Dinner and a date with my hubby couldn't have been better! Revel and Roost was definitely a very nice restaurant with a good menu. Our waiters, RJ and Matt, were phenomonal!!! Friendly, gave great conversation, and really made us feel wlcome!!! We ordered Shrimp & Grits, Mac & Cheese and Ribs. The Shrimp & Grits were really good! I didn't want to stop eating them! Their Mac & Cheese was bland, and their ribs were ok. For dessert we had their Peach Cobbler which was so so...the struesal was powdery on top with no butter like a regular struesal. Where to start..... one of two tables taken when we arrived with 3-4 servers on... took about 10 minutes for someone to take our order after we ordered 1 cappuccino and a water, just for them to come back and say their cappuccino machine wasn't working but left the cup anyway and said she would take it back if it wasn't warm... it was warm but tasted terrible... chalk that up to bad luck, but it only got worse... ordered a Bloody Mary and pulled an audible... showed up very pale red with zero flavor... pretty much tasted like horseradish water with old lemon garnish on top with bad tasting olive. I ordered the breakfast burrito with braised beef and my wife ordered a blueberry waffle and eggs for her and my daughter... waffle was fine. Nothing special but no issues... the burrito's eggs were fine..again nothing special but the braised beef seemed to taste like leftover that they quickly threw on a skillet... very tough and areas impossible to even pull apart with hands... we also ordered blueberry fritters for a side... you guessed it, came out completely uncooked in the middle.. straight runny dough! The manager sat at the bar drinking a Starbucks coffee (should have been a sign not to order their coffee) and never once came over to check on us even though we were only one of 2 tables when we came in and 3 when we left... we naturally sent the fritters back and they took that and the cappuccino off the check but felt more should have been done... But wait, in the words of the late Billy Mays, THERES MORE! As I had to get up to use the bathroom prior to leaving I had to walk passed the kitchen. Smelt of sewage and dirty dog kennel... I thought it had to come from bathroom but was pleased, yet terrified to open the bathroom door to a clean and nice smelling room... terrified as to know the smell wasn't coming from the bathroom. I had my wife check the women's room to confirm... yep, that one was clean and smelled nice too. So the kitchen was the culprit and we were both appalled and left with a sick feeling in our stomach... Yeahhhhh I don't think we will be back... would have discussed with manager if he even pretended to give a damn... read more

If I could give this 0 stars I would. We got there at 7:55 got our 8:00pm reservation and had to wait 10 minutes, as they slowly cleaned up the table. Once we were sat we waited and finally got to ordered drinks that took 35 minutes to get. Some of the drink orders were wrong. We then waited for drinks and water for at least another 30 minutes and our server never came over. We had to ask for our checks 4 separate times and still nothing. Our server also pointed out a wound on her arm, and told us not to be alarmed. Management never came over, after us continuously looking around, asking different staff where our server is or where our checks were. Will never be back. read more
