We were on our way home from Long Island New York and was looking for a place to stop. It had been a long drive and I use the Yelp app to find a place to stop. Restaurant 55 came up with good reviews, good burgers, and a good selection of craft beers. We were not disappointed... The waitress was very helpful, and very friendly, And very willing to help us out. John got the fried anchovies and said they were yummy. Craft beers were delicious we each got a flight, not disappointed. The burgers were delicious mine had a root beer barbecue sauce and John's had bacon. The fries were delicious. Wow. That was... impressive. Normally a restaurant like this would get four stars from me. I've been to places with both better food, and a wider variety of beer in other places. However, Dover has *nothing* that compares to this place. Like I said, I've seen bigger beer lists. I've eaten better food. But not in Dover, that's for sure. And don't get me wrong the food was phenominal. Best burger I've eaten in a while. It's definitely a burger joint. If you're looking for a different type of food I won't bother, burger's take up half the menu. But they are GOOD burgers. Cooked to order, with a wide variety of toppings. Great bread. Worth it in every way. The appetizer was good too, creamy buffalo wings and handcut chips with a dip that tasted like a mix of ranch and vegetable dip. Quite good. Oh, and their dessert menu consists of specialty cupcakes. Really damn good specialty cupcakes. You wont find that anywhere else around here. So as far as the beer goes, it's a small selection, featuring many local brews, as well as some other craft brews from all over the US. Ironically a friend was just telling me about a brewhouse in SF called 21st Amendment, and they had their beers here, so I promptly ordered one and was immediately impressed. Great presentation, and they use the proper glassware (and state which glasses they use in the beer list - great for a beginner). They also offer samples of the beer, which is always a plus. The biggest problem I did have with Restaurant 55 was the acoustics. We had to repeat our order to the waitress a few times, and actually had trouble hearing each other during the meal, and we went during a slow time, so there weren't many people there. Just the way the building is set up, but I can see it being a big issue when it's crowded. Overall probably the best food and beer selection I've had in Delaware. Some of the best service I've had in Delaware. And at a fairly reasonable price. I think I've found my new favorite place to eat here, but anyone else should definitely check it out! read more

Local hangout. Off the beaten path. Good drinks and food. They have the best teriyaki burger I have ever tasted. French fries were awesome. One of our companion had the fish and chips, it made me wished I ordered it, maybe next time. Our waitstaff Travis was excellent. Would go back again, I recommend this place highly. read more

You can't really tell what kind of place this is from the outside, but don't let that food you - it's a great place. I'd say Restaurant 55 has some of the best burgers - not just the best burgers in Dover, but anywhere. And I live in the DC area, so it's not like I don't have plenty of chances to have a good burger ( 5 guys, Ray's Hellburger, etc), but I'm very impressed with these. They have a variety of interesting specialty burgers if you're adventurous, and if you're not, they have the standard burgers. I think they use local grass-feed beef, and that makes a big difference in how a burger tastes. And unlike many places that make burgers, you can get yours cooked to your desired done-ness - you don't have to get well done - medium rare (how I order mine) is authorized. The housemade fries are really good to - but they're not those mass-produced McDonald's type fries, so be sure to eat them right when they come out, when they're piping hot. We love appetizers, so we always order one. I like the fried artichoke hearts. They also have a really good Parmesan peppercorn dressing, and a spicy mayo dip. If you're into craft beers, this is your spot. They have all kinds of craft beers on tap, and a lot of them are from local microbreweries like Dogfish Head, Old Dominion, and 16 Mile. You probably wont have room for dessert, but I don't care - you can't leave without getting a cupcake. I promise they're better than most (maybe all) other cupcakes you've had. Chocolate with peanut butter frosting is the best, but black bottom, red velvet, and the really chocolatey one with ganache icing are also awesome. This place gets pretty hopping on a Friday/Saturday night, so if you're looking for a quiet place, come during the off hours for a more low-key atmosphere. Oh, and ask for Joe. He's a great server, and he has great recommendations. Your drinks wont be empty, and if you need more of that parmesan peppercorn dressing to dip your fries into (because ketchup is lame), he'll make sure you have it. read more

Consistency is key here. After all these years and a big turnover in employees I still love this place. Maddy is my new favorite server now the Jordan bailed UGH Tony and Zack are the bestest bartenders of course my wife Mia loves Mary and Desiree but honestly the coolest person there has to be Mackenzie the hostess. Been here several times. Great place for a burger, although they are a bit inconsistent in food temp. I would recommend always ordering at least one level more done unless you love very rare. They advertise local sourced ingredients, including the beef which makes the burgers quite fresh. The restaurant appears to pull in a lot of families, so can be rather noisy. Dover is restaurant hell. It's mostly fast food and the usual chains. Aside from a few good Italian places that's been about it for Dover. Until now. I am happy to say you can now get a damn good burger in Dover. Forget the appetizers, you want to be hungry when your burger arrives. It's cooked just how you request it (rare for me) and comes on a beautiful roll. Fries are the beach variety and were excellent. My wife had the sweet potato fries - they were good but I preferred the regular ones. Prices are very reasonable for the portions you receive. All in all this place is a winner. I finally have a favorite Dover restaurant. It only took 34 years to find one. read more

So we were driving from CT to VA beach and yelped the path down there to find something tasty along the way. We found 55. Mmmmm..... we had great burgers, a tasty brew, and filling desserts. I would not put this on the culinary tour, but if you are looking for a tasty meal on the road (just off the highway by 3 minutes) you would be wise to stop here. I'm not even a burger person and I love the burgers here. My personal favorite is the Santa Fe Burger. Cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce (I skip the onion straw type things)... Delicious. Great beer selection as others have noted. But honestly, I would come here for the fries. I love them- hot, crispy on the outside, flaky inside, and smothered in malt vinegar. My wife and I stopped here on our way from DC to the Dover AFB museum. This place is excellent! We arrived right when the restaurant opened, and were seated promptly. Our server, Jordan, was helpful and friendly - taking care of everything we needed. Lets get down to it. The food here is fantastic. Our appetizer was the fried artichoke hearts with spicy mayo. Delicious! PRO-TIP: save any leftover spicy mayo to dip your fries or burger in - it's just that good. My wife enjoyed the Santa Fe burger. Perfectly done medium-well patty served on a brioche roll with a mound of fried onions, bacon, and smoky bbq sauce. I had the avocado burger, which was just a good. The tasty surprise was the homemade pepper relish that was lightly sweet, and just right in the spicy department. For dessert, we split the butterfinger cupcake, and we recommend that you do to - so good it gives the fancy cupcake shops in DC a run for their money. Service was fine and we easily sat out party of 8. I had the sage/beef combo burger on a pretzel roll and it tasted like a giant breakfast sausage which was disappointing. I wish it had tasted more like a hamburger with slight pork flavor. The biggest disappointment happened at the end of the meal when my "double chocolate" cupcake came and did not have any icing on top. Furthermore, the cupcake tasted like a devil dog and not much like chocolate at all. It was infused or filled with a small amount of something resembling chocolate chip cookie dough. We enjoyed our experience very much. The interior is well organized and very clean. The food was excellent. Sure it may be a little pricey for burgers, but you get what you pay for. My British girlfriend says this was the best fish and chips she has had since moving to this country 10 years ago. They also have a good beer selection. After driving past this place time and time again over my life as I commuted to work, I realized I had never given this place much of a thought. It is part of a sort of strip mall on the side of the road and is thoroughly uninteresting from the outside. It's so uninteresting, in fact, that I *never* noticed it after driving past it perhaps 60-70 times. But, after my meal today, I don't think I'll soon forget it. I came through with a few co-workers who wanted a bite to eat. My manager suggested this place, so we gave it a shot. We didn't have to wait for a table at all during lunch and were waited on right away. This place has an open, classy atmosphere that's great for socializing. I got the Black and Bleu burger while the other two got some sort of salads with lots of dark meat in them. The burger was huge, which is a huge plus for me. It tasted great, and the fries that came with it were VERY good. No matter what, try some of their fries. Though I was there with co-workers and couldn't get drinks, I noticed their lengthy list of craft brewed beers. Restaurant 55 also gets its meat from a few farms close by and supports the local community at lunchtime. This is a local small business with great food, pleasant service, a friendly atmosphere and all the "small-time" beer you could ever dream of. Honestly, what more could you ask for? Delicious food, very fresh. I strayed from the path and got the special of the day.....Jambalaya.....At a burger joint, but it was actually pretty good. The shrimp was a little overcooked, by about 30 seconds, but the dish was flavorful and well designed. I wish I would have been able to try some of their beers, definitely a reason to go back though! Pleasantly surprised. Don't be intimidated by the dull interior. On my way out of Firefly music festival, I was determined to get something palatable in my stomach. After a few Yelp searches and my girlfriend striking down my suggestions, we found ourselves here. Although initial impressions were depressing, I could not believe the flavors present in our perfectly cooked burgers. Interesting, delicious, and quick. The decor is fun and lively as well. This is a restaurant that I would visit even within the city, and thats saying a lot considering the wasteland its situated in. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth checking out. read more

We went here with a large party, it was my first time visiting this establishment, and I've got to hand it to this place! We had a party of over 25 people and both the service and food were timely. The server was professional and friendly. I had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. While the chicken was a little bit dry (it wasn't what I was expecting, as a cordon bleu sandwich usually has breaded chicken and this was just grilled chicken), it was still a perfectly sized portion with a very fair price. Great beer selection and the competence necessary to make a great burger, though I certainly had my doubts when I got that anchovy fries appetizer. Points for even offering anchovies on a menu, period, but for all of the heavy battering the fish received, it was hard to tell they were even there. Aside from the extremely overwhelming presence of salt - that was a good giveaway. But whatever fears I had were alleviated once I tried the burger. Restaurant 55 knows how to check all of the boxes for a great burger: brioche bun, local beef seasoned well and cooked to a pretty good medium rare, plus those awesome deli pickles that I enjoy so much. And the fries, double-fried (though maybe a little under-seasoned) and perfectly crispy. I wish I wasn't working that day and could have enjoyed the beer selection, but this isn't Mad Men. Probably would have had a cupcake had I not been given a tremendous amounts of fries. Restaurant 55 knows how to make a great burger, and they execute it well. Best burger in Dover? One of the best burger places in Delaware. The sweet tea is a must have. The staff is always friendly and courteous. When you get a chance you have to try the specials. Although I must admit I did order the cupcake for desert one time and didn't really like it. To me it was dry, but I'm not much of a desert person. This place is as great as the unique food they serve. For an appetizer I went with the anchovy fries, I guess I didn't know what to expect, but they were good ( I guess). They are literally anchovies that are battered and fried. Great if you are into that not so much if you just wanted to try them without knowing what anchovies taste like lol but overall good. I went with the bacon burger which was 50% ground bacons 50% ground beef with 6 slices of bacon on top. Yes it was as amazing as it sounds every single bite. For dessert I went with the carrot cake cupcake which was.... you guessed it just as good as the rest of the meal.
