Passing through and chose Derby's based on reviews -not always the best decision criteria but it sure was this time. Cant say enough about this place. Staff were very nice and although the place was packed we never felt neglected (this wait staff hustles!). Food was quick and large portions. They offer a large and diverse menu. We all had burgers and quite likely the biggest burger I've had in over a decade! With all said and done it needs to be said that the prices are also quite reasonable. I ordered the Oyster Fritter appetizer. A fritter is a mix of batter with chopped or whole oysters and fried. It is a seafood pancake. What arrived were 4 oysters fried separately and in a crusty cornmeal coating. The oysters were so tough they chewed into wads of dry pulp. I complained and was refused any accommodation. We had dinner tonight at Derby's for the first time. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our meals. When we arrived the place was packed and busy. As we were waiting to be seated we were talking to the host/cashier about the menu and his recommendations. He had several pictures of menu items on his phone and showed us the entrees that we were considering. Our server Beca was friendly and also offered her opinion and recommendations. We both decided to get meals that were "Specials" on the menu. The amount of food that we were served was incredible. We started with a salad. Our entrees followed and came with 2 sides and a dessert! There was a DJ there, and we played music bingo. The prizes included tokens worth $5 or $10 off your bill, or $100 cash for winning the final bingo game. It turned out to be a really fun night! Another visit to Derby's tonight. I enjoy coming here as the service is always friendly and attentive. Tonight they started offering a new special... Sweet Chickadee. Two large fried chicken breast tenderloins with a spicy bourbon glaze, bacon, and cheese, served with soup or salad, two sides, and dessert. It's delicious! As usual there's always a nice crowd and the dining area is clean and pleasant. I think we will stick around for Quizzy Bingo! read more

We arrived tired and hungry after a long 6 hour drive. It was about 8:30pm on a Wednesday and it was quite quiet at the restaurant. The waitstaff was very attentive, we placed orders and everything arrived promptly. The food was excellent, we even got dessert as part of our entree meals. By the time we left a bit after 9pm the restaurant was packed with patrons! Our bill was also very affordable. Highly recommended! read more

After going to Rudy's for years we decided to give Derby's a try. Service was good. My wife's fried clams and fries were very good except that there were a lot more fries than clams. Our son's French dip was kinda sad. A little lacking on the meat. My main gripe was the so called bowl of cream of crab soup! If you all are going to serve a bowl to a customer then please buy some larger bowls. Be a little more generous on the crab meat also! read more

Derby's food was fast, friendly, and fairly priced. The salads were made with particularly crispy lettuce and the server told that was due to the extra care they take in the kitchen. This is a Delmarva landmark and worth the visit. We capped off our meal with Tapioca pudding which appeared to made from scratch. We will definitely be back! read more

Always a great variety of food, drinks, desserts! Yum to soup, salad, cheesecake, triple chocolate fudge cake, margaritas, wraps, three course meals, ice cream- especially mint chocolate chip! Service on Fridays and Saturdays is aokay to good. A lot of regular customers, I am sure. But kind of busy between 5 and 8 PM. Our first visit but definitely not the last. The have a huge menu, the prices are very reasonable and portions are good. We had prime rib and soft shell crabs and crab cake sandwich. . The prime rib was cooked perfectly. The soft shells were a special. I didn't realize they were fried but they were still good. The crab cake was good but missing something. Canned Corned Beef Hash was horrible. They didn't deny it was out of a can and kept saying that is how it is supposed to be made. I could only laugh and try not to barf. Hashbrowns also had hair in them. We showed the server and she only took the food away, didn't take it off the bill. When we went to cash out and tell the manager or whoever he was about our experience he could only tell us about how we didn't know anything and the food was great. My wife and I stopped here during our purchase of a car in Felton. I had the shepherd's pie, which was on special. For a reasonable price it came with soup and dessert. It was delicious. Wife got the chicken wings which were also good. Service was great. A great place to grab a bite! read more

We stopped in here tonight for the first time since it's been Derby's and boy were we pleasantly surprised. I've been telling my husband that we should go there sometime because every time we ride by the parking lot would be full. There were 3 in our party, two of us got the crab cake special and my husband got the cabbage rolls. Our server was quick to wait on us the food came out when expected and everything we had was cooked perfectly and tasted great. My husband and friend got the soup and I ordered the salad that came with the meal and all three of us were pleased with what we had. The peppered steak was one of the best meals ever tonight at the Derby. A group of friends go there at least three times a month. We are never disappointed. The service is always top notch. Most meals are made so you have left overs for the next day. We have been going' there since the new owner took over. Burgers was falling apart but had a great pesto on it. It was well priced for what we got.. you get what you pay for... $10 for 6 burned mozzerella sticks with iffy sauce. Pretty good, but puzzling. I ordered a Mixed-up burger (mushrooms, peppers, onions, and provolone), and it came as described, but oddly on a dry bun with no lettuce, tomato, or any kind of sauce on it. I asked for and got lettuce and tomato slices to go on it, but I felt slightly gaslit... aren't those things just always with burgers? And some sort of sauce -- mayo, ketchup, mustard,and relish on the side at least? The patty was a good size, just missing the rest of the sandwich. Service was good... however we came because earlier reviews when it was under the name Stargate indicated good home cooked meals. The serving was huge! I ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes because I hadn't had that in a long time. The meatloaf was bland. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant. We have come to love this place. If you like French Onion soup, theirs is FANTASTIC, the best I have ever had - consistently. And the service has also been excellent. The Four start ratiing today was because we did encounter a recent food issue. We ordered the Nachos from the appetizer menu with added beef. When it came to our table, the nachos looked DRY. Was expecting melting cheese on tip. Didn't see any cheese, until we dug into the nachos and saw that the tortillas had cheese on them that was dry and burnt on. We asked the waitress for some additional melted cheese and was brought back shredded cheese. I again asked if some cheese could be MELTED on. She took the nachos back to the kitchen and they added cheese on top and put it in the over, which only caused the prior cheese to burn more onto the nachos. We didn't finish it. Today was our first visit to Derby's. We will be back often. It's more of a casual restaurant than a sports bar which was very nice for a family outing on a rainy afternoon. Dana was our waitress. She was great. The food was delicious! Started with salad and thier house made buttermilk ranch, best ever. The chesapeake chicken imperial was perfect. The only flaw was canned string beans.
