This place is a real gem in Delaware. My wife and I are in town visiting family for the week and stopped in for lunch. The place is great and has a huge well maintained outdoor area with lots of seating. They even have an outdoor covered seating area in case of rain. The service is QR based. So it's easy to order and the service is fast and friendly. They answered a couple of questions I had on menu items. They couldn't have been much nicer. If you like beer and/or cocktails you can't go wrong. I recommend the pretzel too. Big shareable and HOT. Stop by if you're in the area. You won't regret it. read more

Just passing through last week. Had several more hours of driving to do so was looking for a quick break and a meal. My frankfurter was great. This seems to be the specialty here. My wife ordered a salad. I ate my frank, my wife went to the window twice to ask about the salad. lots of strange looks. no salad. after 45 minutes, the salad shows up, its wrong. dressing is wrong. My wife complains and no one seems to care. Essentially, since you order and pay for your food using your I phone, I suppose they are not paid to care because they already have your money. Cool spot in Dover, especially when it's nice out. The beer garden was popping when I arrived, and the inside area (bar and tables) was mostly filled. The place mostly cleared out when the sun went down, and they closed at 9pm. My meal was delivered to the bar, but came without napkins. When I asked for napkins, I was told to go to the opposite side of the room and get them myself. I thought that was bizarre, kinda rude and not sanity (If I didn't inquire, I guess I was supposed to use my shirt or pants). The people at the bar next to me said the bartender told them to get napkins for their meals and they thought it was strange too. The Falafel Doner and fries were flavorful and filling. My one knock was that it seemed as though pickles were included in the pita mix. Pickles don't belong in a pita and weren't listed on the menu. This place seems ot have a great vibe and hopefully the napkin thing isn't bar policy. read more

Not this time. been here a few times. recent visit wasn't good. was unusually uncrowded. we were a group of 4 with 2 kids. it took forever to get our meals, and they came out one at a time. we all were done eating before the last person got their sandwich. watched other tables get served before we were. Tucked away, but worth the travel. Beer came out lightning quick, food was right behind it. Wide open seating with a great menu, order from your table. Plenty of stuff to do for the kids like a big gravel sandbox, Bocce, playground equipment. Large TV's for sports games. Had a great time. Food was really good and really fairly priced. Felt like stopping by for a burger and a drink! I wasn't sure about the location, but once we circled around downtown to the restaurant, it was stunning! It had a nice open patio with yard games and tables. I even saw a sand box for kids to play in! Definitely very unique and capable of handling a lot of people. Jess greeted us outside and informed us about the system. Since it was warm outside, we went inside for lunch a don't here was plenty of space :) I ordered just a simple cheeseburger and fries, and my husband ordered the schnitzel sandwich and a beer. While we waited, we played a few rounds of Trivial Pursuit that they had nearby. The food was honestly okay, it was a little overpriced for what we got, about $40 total for both of us. This is one of my favorite places to go to when I visit my son in Dover. Unfortunately this trip wasn't great. Some of the changes have been good, some have not. The outside area has always been great. Toys for adults and kids. Nice tents, umbrellas and fans for the hot days and cold days. You order off a scan code on the table and it's pretty easy to navigate. The drinks came out fast, the food took a little longer but it wasn't bad for a restaurant. The food was a little disappointing. I got the hummus this time. The hummus, olives, tomatoes and falafel were delicious. The pita wasn't toasted so you couldn't scoop the hummus and the cucumbers were soggy like they had been frozen. The kale salad with chicken was ok, just needed a little more dressing. The fries and beer cheese was were great. The staff and owner are all very nice. The owner checked one everyone and helped clear tables. The portions have gotten a lot smaller from when we first came here. We came here when they first opened last summer and it was fantastic! We came for New Year's Eve for the kids and it was fun and there was a lot for them to do. This trip wasn't the best but we will keep coming back because there is so much potential. read more

This place is really cool. I sat outside and one of my favorite movies The Witches (the original) was playing. You sit down at a table and scan a code and order that way, and a server brings the food to you. I got the curry wurst and potato salad and it was really good. The only thing is you pay and tip before getting your food. I'd rather tip after bc a tip should be based on service. It's really not a big deal though, I'd still hang out here all the time if I lived nearby. read more

Went here for a late dinner on Saturday night. The place was not very busy. We were lucky the owner meet us at the door and told us the different ways ti order. My wife and I sat indoors. Our waitress took our drink order which were just a soda and an ice tea. We ordered the bbq wings and the Schnitzel sandwich. The wings were crispy like the menu said, the schnitzel sandwiches were great. The meat was nice and tender, the fries that came with dinner were tasty and different. We also ordered the cinnamon pretzel bits which were a nice ending to our late dinner. It was nice to chat with the owner. I do know we will be back. read more

I came here with a bunch of people from work- most of us are retired/active duty military that were stationed in Germany so I'm so happy that we I came across this in my searches. The beer was great from what I heard. They said it was delicious. The food was absolutely great. I had the Bavarian on regular buns and came with fries that were curled but were thick and nicely battered. I ate every single one. The wings were delicous as well. Staff was great and attentive. Really enjoyed the atmosphere here - the weather was cold so we went inside but outside looks great. Inside seating near the bar is a bit awkward as the long tables and benches between the posts create a barrier to get through if people are sitting back to back. There is a large projector TV on one wall that only half the seated patrons can see. Ordering was by QR code at the table and was efficient and orders came out quickly. I enjoyed the German beer flight of 4 beers pre-selected. There is not an option to choose your own beers on the flight. The pretzel was large enough for sharing and the German cheese dip that came with it was excellent - definitely appeared freshly made with chives. The server does not bring napkins with it. When we asked they told us napkins were on other side of restaurant down a hallway (out of sight). Server did not offer to get them and it was difficult to crawl through benches with seated people to get to them. I really enjoyed the overall ambiance though and would like to return and try more items on the menu and more beers. I bet it will be a very popular place when the weather is nice. read more

German food is hard to find in Delaware. Their hot dogs and sausages did not disappoint our party. The falafel was great and a nice non-meat alternative. Super clean and friendly staff. This is such an amazing addition to Dover! The food is great. The atmosphere is so family friendly. We went for the Mother's Day market and had the best time. We also went for the Pride Celebration and it was amazing. I really love that they have fun vegetarian options. Food is excellent traditional German beer hall fare. I have family in Berlin and they would agree. Beer choices are also great. The beer hall atmosphere is fun. Service is competent, but a few flaws. You order from your phone. I ordered water. When it never came I flagged my server who told me water is self serve around a wall. My food came with no silverware. Apparently that's self serve too. I would be ok with this IF they let you know. But they don't. The positives far outweigh these minor inconveniences and I will certainly return. Management take note....let your patrons know they need to get their own water and silverware. Or better yet, have the servers bring it. read more

So I've come to Rail Haus many time la since it's been open and have always had an amazing time until last Friday. Me and a couple of friends stopped it for a drinks and food and sat at the bar for the first time (usually we are outside). When we first sat down the bartender (new guy never saw before) greeted us and took our order just fine. After getting refills on our drinks He disappeared for almost an Hour an a half talking to a friend I'm assuming when we were trying to get our tab . We asked for our tab when another bartender finally got him to come over to us . He was given a tip of $10 . When my wife and I checked our bank statement we saw that the bartender gave himself another $10 on top of what he was given . I love this place but I doubt I'd ever go back into the bar area because I think that's terrible to give yourself an extra $10 tip and it's honestly shady. The place as a whole is Amazing with great ownership, great food, drinks and ambience but that new bartender is not a good look. read more

The food is basically similar to what one would expect in a German Octoberfest, but with an American twist. We got Kasekrainer, which is a bratwurst with toppings on a roll; Bavarian, which is a hamburger loaded with toppings on a bun of your choice with a side salad; and a Haus Salad, which is dinner salad that is loaded with many ingredients. For drinks I had a draft beer, which was in a large stein like you would get in a German restaurant. My companion got a Mistletoe Margarita. Both were delicious! For dessert we got both Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Bites and shared them. There was more than enough and we brought leftovers home. I have eaten my Haus salad three times! The atmosphere was so pretty. We were able to sit at a window, so we could see both inside and outside the restaurant. Inside is warm and friendly with plenty of colorful lights and a bar, if you just come in for a drink. There is plenty of outside seating with heaters and fire pits. All is so inviting. The service is good. The staff is very helpful, especially if it is your first time eating there. The chef even stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our food. You seat yourself and get your own water from a station set up for cold water and cups. You choose your own seats. Once seated, you scan the QR code in the table and it opens a menu for you to choose your food and drink from. Once you include your payment method, your food is sent to the kitchen for preparation. It didn't take long for a staff member to bring our drinks and food, and the place was crowded! They made sure we got what we expected. We could have added to our dinner if we had chosen, but the food was so plentiful and delicious, we didn't feel a need to do that. Once we had finished our meal and gotten takeout containers, we paid through the website and we were free to leave. It was nice not to have to wait for a check and someone to bring back a receipt. The receipt was delivered electronically and was able to be sent to our email address. I even sent it to my notes for future reference. I found this experience to be excellent and would highly recommend it! read more
