I was just getting off the Amtrak train after a very long trip from Atlanta to Wilmington DE. My bestie suggested we eat here because it was one of her favorites in the area. As we entered I realized I missed living in the North. North America is known for diners, pubs and sports bars. We went here the perfect time in the evening as the sun was setting. We were seated in a nice booth that had some good privacy. We also could look out the window at the pond adjacent to the property. Beautiful atmosphere. The server quickly came to take our drink amd appetizer orders. I do not remember the name of the drink it was so good I slurped it down. We ordered some wings, crispy and a burger. TERRIBLE! 8/21/26 we went out of our way to stop at McGlynn's. We sat outside for close to 40 minutes and during that time the furthered we got was getting menus and putting a drink order in. I took my daughter inside to go to the bathroom and to let a server/host know we were outside. Walked right by the bartender who commented on our dog outside but that was it. Walked over to the host stand and there was a big sign saying see the bartender so we walked back to the bar and she walks by us again and goes in the back so we stood at the end of the bar waiting for her and there is a waitress sitting down doing nothing not to far away from us and another who is drying a plate just staring at us and then eventually says do you need something. I told her I just wanted to let someone know we sat out side and she responded with "okay" it was so awkward. So I asked her where the bathrooms were and she said right behind you. No greeting or coming over to us or I'll get you menus or I'll send someone out to you or even welcome to Mcglynns... lol... nothing from her or the bartender. So we go in the bathroom and there is another waitress coming out of the stall and we go in because it's the big one and there is just like a murder scene on the toilet seat, blood all over... so disgusting. So we go back outside and my husband says he's going to the bathroom at which time a male server with a doo rag on his head comes out and says to me "are you ready" and I said for what and he says drinks and I said maybe we could start with menus. Which he had already been out there to serve other tables. There were only 2 other occupied tables outside so I was confused why he didn't come outside with menus in hand and why we didn't even get a greeting. Anyhow he eventually brings out menus and we over hear him apologizing greatly to one table and telling them they ran out of printer paper, I guess on the pos system so he couldn't give them a receipt, this couple was not happy at all. Then we hear him telling the other two ladies sitting next to us that only the sandwiches and apps were good and nothing else. He eventually gets our drink order and tells us the lemonade was "mud" so we got something else, which I didn't know what the hell he was saying. He said he had tasted it in the morning and they didn't add any sugar and it was terrible. So I'm like thinking great, why wasn't that brought to a managers attention. Any way while he goes back to get the drinks I am realizing we have been there for awhile as I had a time stamp for pictures I took when we got there and we had only accomplished menus and putting in a drink order. We see the server bring out the wrong app to the ladies sitting next to us so they send it back which he dropped on the ground and just left it there. So the lady comes over to our table to pet our dog and I ask her how her experience has been and she said her and her friend had been there for an hour and they just got the incorrect app which was now just sitting on the ground so far during that time. She said the server was new and she advised us if we wanted a normal timed meal we were not going to get it there. My daughter told her she wanted McDonalds and the lady said we would be better off going there. She said she didn't mind for herself too because she was with an old friend and they were gabbing and she was giving the server the benefit of the doubt. We decide to go in and tell the server we were leaving and just met him as he was bringing out our drinks. We just said we didn't have the time to wait for that long of a very late lunch experience, it was almost two. He said he had a banquet in the back also. So anyhow I have to say the server was so polite and respectful and to be honest, untrained. What a shame of the management to do that to him. I think he was trying his best but was just clueless and had no idea what he was doing. How sad to put him on the floor unprepared. He didn't have any serving skill set and didn't know any of the tricks like greet your guests with menus and don't make just one trip at a time for everyone who was outside and don't put down the items on the menu and if there is something wrong let management know, because you may think you're helping us but what you're doing is lowering our trust in the quality of the food that is served at McGlynns. This server though is going to be great with such a lovely personality and likable demeanor if he received the correct training. Shame on the managers honestly for not knowing he wasn't quite ready yet and for the not busy bartender and the others servers inside for not doing anything to help him or even to greet us. It was a big waste of time for us and inconvenience. Great location and beautiful setting and really nice young man but a positive working culture, team work and management there was just non existent. read more

We used to bring the family to McGlynn's at least once a week. We loved the wings and the prices were good. Then something changed and things weren't as good and the prices really went up. But good news- it's back to being really good again. The food is delicious and the prices are pretty good. We're back to going at least three times a month. Please don't change again! read more

I can't believe I'm only just discovering this bar and its delicious food after three years of coming to Dover to drop my son off at college. It's a great spot to relax, especially since they had a DJ on Saturday night. I ordered my meal to go but enjoyed a drink at the bar while I waited for my food. If I had known it was such a nice place to hang out, I would have dressed up for the evening. I tried the egg rolls, crab cake, and chicken Philly. While everything was tasty, my son and I were a bit underwhelmed by the crab cakes since we've had better. I'd rate the crab cakes a 7 out of 10, but the egg rolls were absolutely incredible--definitely a highlight! I'll definitely return when I'm back in May. Also, the service was not too bad. read more

We were visiting in Dover, DE and searched for a location to enjoy on St. Patrick's day. We "lucked" up on McGlynn's Pub. Arriving early for lunch, the place was already packed. Good sign!!! Since it was our first time here, we asked to sit by a window with the water view and the host went to check. And...counting on our luck for the day, he found us the perfect table by the water. Absolutely Beautiful!!! We enjoyed watching the ducks. Our server Jeanine was very nice! She would check on us at the right moments and gave great advice on the food options. The food was great! We enjoyed every bite. We continued to eat, even when we felt full. LOL! Everyone was friendly and food exceptional! Our server Jeanine put service in customer service. The food at McGlynn's is just ok. It all depends on what you order. Stay away from the roast beef au jus. You can floss your teeth with the sinews. Burgers are passable. Service has never been the strong point, but it is because the staff focuses on persons actively being served. So until you get recognized as a patron, just grit your teeth, they're busy at the bar. Ambiance is nice, local chatter and a huge number of screens keeps your attention. There is free popcorn if you like that kind of thing too. read more

So great. We found this little gem the first night of our summer vacation. Loved it so much went back two more times. Food was good, outdoors is really spectacular views of sunset and the cove. What a disappointment. Wife & I walked in for an early dinner (approximately 4:40pm). The host stand was empty. Another couple had been waiting for several minutes to be greeted. The hostess was obviously upset and pretty much ignored us. After several more minutes she seated the couple in front of us, returned and asked us to wait a few while. She sorted out some issue. This is a pub & restaurant regional chain. It's a bit dated inside but kept up fairly well. My husband & I have eaten here a few times. I like their French onion soup. Pretty decent considering it's not a gourmet establishment. We each had a great corned beef dinner over St Patty's week. The service is decent. It wasn't overly crowded on previous visits. We never went during sporting events so I would imagine it is more popular then. It has TV's that are viewable around the bar & dining areas. Nice lake views! Stopped in with a group for a weekday lunch. Seated right away, and waitress took our drink orders. This place has always been pretty solid, as I've visited for lunch many times over the years. There seems to be a special every day. There is typically always a few seats at the bar, and the barkeep has worked lunch for years, and she always does a great job. A friend and I stopped here for lunch, and it was pretty good. There is plenty of parking. The day that we went they were repaving the parking lot, but we just parked next-door. Not a big deal. The restaurant itself is very large with multiple rooms and a large bar section. They also have some outdoor seating by the lake, which is nice. It's a basic pub. Interior with lots of wood and cool stained glass. Our server, Cameron, was fantastic. Super nice guy and very helpful. He made some good suggestions when we asked for them and was very prompt and attentive. I thought the food was very average. We got the fried cheesesteak rolls to begin with. Basically beef and cheese fried up. Then I had a salad, which was nothing special, but decent. My friend had a wrap, and she felt the same about that. The food wasn't bad , it was very basic pub food. I'm not sure I would go back to eat. There seem to be other more tasty dining options in the area and I would probably opt to try another place. Again on our trip to DE we were headed somewhere else to eat when we spotted this place from the road. I did a double take which was very dangerous because I was the driver. The outside eating area looked fly AF. A gazebo and it was right by the water. My side car looked up the menu and started reading it to me. So we got turned around. First thing we had to get was the root beer floats. They make their own soda and ice cream! The root beer was awesome and very different. The ice cream though??? That blew me away. I almost didn't want to dump the root beer on it. Afraid of spoiling its integrity. However I ordered a goddamn root beer float and that's what I aimed to have. Then I got the McGlynns Style Hot Roast Beef Sandwich w/ the optional cheese slice. This sandwich was so good. My fellow got the special of the day which was grilled cheese and ham. He also got a side of mashed potatoes. The combination seemed very strange. Especially since the sandwich comes with fries. Whatever. He said it was one of the best grilled cheeses he ever had. I don't think it is technically a grilled cheese. The view was spectacular. I'd be going here for the ambiance even if I wasn't hungry. The service and food were trash. I came Thursday Night and tried the unlimited shrimp, nasty and plain, thing that was good was the cornbread and even that was cold. Decided to come here because the view looks amazing from some of the pictures on Yelp. I won't bash this place because other than the food the drinks were great and inexpensive. I would not come here again for the food though (unfortunately). My wings were cold and the eastern shore pretzels with the melted cheese was cold. Not sure how melted cheese is cold when it's melted before it's delivered to you but first time for everything. Luckily the drinks start flowing because the food started tasting better. Hence why the pretzels in the picture provided are almost gone lol. All in all real good place for drinks and some cool music!!! read more

McGlynn is only interested in collecting your money. They clearly do well, and get very busy, yet they have no interest in cleaning up. I went one late afternoon and I noticed how filthy this place is. You cannot see that when it's packed at nighttime. The counter was dirty, the floors and window sills had food crumbs, there were random condiments in the window sills, and the flies, so many flies inside. So I took my drink outside and their outdoor dinner my area is covered with geese shit. Highly unsanitary place. read more
