No frills, good hearty food. Quick service. Decor could use a facelift. Worn wood floors, tables & chairs. Albeit clean. Hubby's birthday and he wanted to stay local due to many home projects we had going on. This place has been a permanent fixture in the area for years. Our first time. Located on the corner of a small strip mall offset by the Wawa, bank & Walgreens. It features live music, karaoke and sports on 7 TV's. My husband got the cowboy sirloin which was a good quality cut and cooked as requested. It came with onion rings and choice of two sides. He had a bourbon & club ($10) for a beverage. I had the French onion soup which was decent but a hunk of French bread was overwhelming in it. Got the loaded potato skins. They were decent perhaps a bit overdone but not a deal breaker. I'm sure they are from a food service. For dessert we got the overloaded brownie & ice cream. That too was decent. Food overall was good. There's 16 tables, some high tops and bar seating as well. The place started to fill after 6pm. Sadie was our server. She ran the bar and along with one other waited tables. She was a no nonsense professional, albeit pleasant. My husband left her a $20 tip on a $59 bill. My husband would definitely eat here again. I like a nicer ambiance with my meal. But like I have said not a deal breaker! read more

This is a very nice clean and cozy Irish Pub. The bar was buzzing with locals and the staff still provided excellent friendly service. We had the cheese steak sandwich which was delicious. I have had Ruben sandwich's all over the country including a famous deli in New York and this grilled Ruben was the best we have ever had! The corn beef was generous and delicious. The toppings were perfect. The fries were perfectly cooked and had a flavorful seasoning. The homemade chips were very tasty. I had a great Irish stout. The food was good, not great. Very noisy place with an incredibly loud, drunk, woman at the bar. Laughing, screeching, etc. Service was horrible. Incredibly slow to take our order and bring our food. "The Celtic" has become our local "go to spot" ... simply put / is an Irish Pub -- not fancy, not overly pretty but it's GOOD. Food has always been better than just fair. Excellent burgers, their steaks are as good as any chain steak house restaurant you'll go to ... their fries are house made (very good). The wife frequently orders the salmon and says it's very good. Bartenders are personable -- drinks always good. Truly a local vibe, friendly folk. Please keep in mind, they can get busy and it's a small establishment --- the wait for food can be a bit long / it'll be worth it (you're in a bar - have another drink). New owners have turned things around. Great food, friendly staff, and perfect pours on the Guinness! A nice place to meet friends, relax, and catch a local band on Friday nights. Top menu items: Wings--Just TOP notch! Cooked perfect, and the Celtic or Traditional Wing Sauces are spot on (the others are pretty good too!) I crave the wings here, and make the drive South often just for them. The cook keeps the oil fresh, and you don't get that burned/old oil flavor in the wings like you get at so many other places. Burgers - Fresh rolls, great flavor in the burger. The Ghost Burger is a great choice, and really not too spicy hot. Hand Cut Fries (i.e home made daily) Fresh, delicious. Splash some vinegar on them and you'll smile with every bite! House Salad - Almost a meal in itself. I like to add grilled chicken & some hot sauce and blue cheese dressing. Perfect bar meal! The newly added Hanger Steak has a great flavor and is rubbed down with Stonefly spices. I usually go for the wings, but this one temps me every time. Smyrna,DE was the perfect midway stop from NYC to my vacation destination in Ocean City, MD. The Best Western hotel here is a beautiful bargain at $89, for all of the amenities that they offer. On top of that, there were so many local haunts to choose from. This town is truly Americana. Needing something more subdued, we went to the Celtic Pub. Great choice! Amy was an awesome bartender that made us feel welcome, while somebody's uncle sang karaoke country songs while we were there. This ain't no fancy-dancy city folk place. Just good grub. And actually, not that Irish either. The young cook, with his tattoos and piercings, wandered out in between orders, which I found refreshing. I'm currently addicted to Old Bay chicken wings, and their version was better than most of the others I have ordered at other bars. I also recommend the Irish Roast Beef Sandwich. It's huge! With fries, and the chunkiest potato salad too! When we were leaving, I thought it was cute that a regular sang to the bartender, "Amy, what you wanna do?'. The nacho chips are freshly fried in house as well, and made my crab nachos ridiculously delicious! From the bar .... The Bloody Marys are made with house infused cucumber & bacon vodka; they're garnished w a Slice of crispy bacon .... YUM! The housemade lemoncello is better than anything out there. The staff is warm & gracious & we found the owners on site, greeting & meeting - they are fully vested in the success of this joint! Stop in & try it out ... So apparently this place has new new owners and man we have found our new dinner spot. We have been multiple times and have not had a bad dinner yet! My favorites are the beer cheese and soft pretzels, the wings and this chicken sandwich that sounds crazy and a little wacky but it is AMAZING!! My BF can't stop ordering the french dip to try anything else he loves it! The staff is so friendly and on top of things even when the place is jammed. The live music and bands on Friday night is great, my only recommendation for live music nights is there is no real dance floor and they leave the lights way up. But the band choices have been great we love the country music bands as well as NoxX!! read more
