unfortunately this place turned out to be a big MAGA supporter I went there for dinner and after about 30 minutes had two gentlemen from the restaurant come into the bar and stand behind me talking about right wing politics. I was texting my wife so I snapped a picture of the two men being me , one resting his hand on my chair, and he ended up complaining to the owner. she came to me a few minutes late and told me that I can't take any pictures inside their business. Woa for sure and when I asked why she went off about privac, in a public assessable place? We went to Roma on Saturday for my husband's birthday. We were a table of 8 people. Everything was delicious from the appetizers of Bruschetta and Calamari to the bread with olive oil and herbs. For dinner we had Veal Parmigiana, Veal Saltimbuca, penne vodka, and many other delicious entrees. The wine was delicious and rounded out the meal. Our server, Jarod, was amazing. He is friendly, attentive and personable. The entire team is great and made our evening delightful. Roma is a lovely and charming restaurant. It is one of our favorite Italian restaurants. I want to save future couples who are looking to get their wedding catered by Roma Italian Restaurant the trouble of even asking. After nearly a month of waiting for a simple quote, I never heard anything back -- just a poor excuse from the owner claiming they had been "too busy" to get one to us. Our wedding isn't until November, so it's not like we were asking for a last-minute rush. But their attitude made it clear they felt like they were too good to bother with our event. That's not how any business, especially one in the hospitality industry, should treat potential clients. If this is how they handle communication during the booking process, I can't imagine the stress they'd cause on the actual wedding day. We'll be looking elsewhere for catering. read more

Everyone was very welcoming and kind. Our sever was lovely, but when we asked if there was meat in the baked penne she said no. There was meat in all of our dishes. The sauce was the same for every one of our dishes. The Caesar salad was very good. The chicken parm, the baked penne, and the lasagna were sub par. Being an Italian, this is just not great. I am sure they are trying but being from Ct and NY we were not impressed. It also was very over priced. For example they charged us $5 extra to sun capellini for penne. A group of ladies had dinner here Wednesday night and it was best. They gave us a room to ourselves and had the table ready and all set up before we got there. This restaurant is incredibly immaculate. From the initial appearance (the dimmed fairy lights in the front give a sultry, romantic vibe - super adorable) to the humble, lovely service of the waiter that was tending to us, dining here was an extremely beautiful experience. As I'm sitting here typing this review in the restaurant, the pleasant sounds of Andrea Bocelli are serenading my ears. Just moved to the area and this was recommended by another restaurant. We didn't have reservations but they seated us quickly and our waiter Patrick answered our questions and got us bread and olive oil (complimentary and absolutely delicious). For appetizer we got the crab bisque (amazing, keep in mind there's and up charge) and the spinach salad (also amazing). My partner had the chicken parmigiana and I had the Roma chicken. In all the years I have been going to Roma's it has been consistently wonderful. Their bread and seasoned, garlic oil would be worth the trip to have a meal. I Soups have always been wonderful, I normally have a Caesar salad, instead of the wonderful side salad they offer with all their entrees, and it is always wonderful. Every dish I have ever had has been great, and that includes the meatballs and lasagna, and the veal dishes are the best I've ever had. I who wouldn't love their service, which is always the best. Ugh. This place is overrated. I wanted to try this place since a few people told me at work that it was a good place for Italian food. My friend and I walked in and the place was clean and had good decor. We were seated at a booth by the window which was nice. I first noticed all the oil/herbs dishes already filled on the tables before guests even sat down...Um okay how long have they been sitting there? Usually Italian restaurant pour the olive oil and herbs right when you sat down so you have fresh dip for your bread. Also there was SO MUCH GARLIC in the dip. It was minced up in the bread oil dip and in the entrees.... like whole pieces of it. Not sure if they just wanted to use it all since they bought in bulk and didn't want to waste it or were too lazy to cut it up in our entrées. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE garlic but there was so much in that bread dip I couldn't eat it. The bread they brought us wasn't warm and a bit hard. We ordered an appetizer each. Me the calamari which was soft and chewy and not what I expected. My friend got the brushetta which was gross with warm mushy tomatoes instead of the fresh diced tomatoes (like how brushetta suppose be).She sent it back and got the fried mozzarella cheese which was good. Entrees : I got the lobster ravioli. Which surprisingly good but there was like 3 ravioli and some crab meat tossed in a tomato sauce. It was good but wasn't worth the 19$ I paid for it. It was maybe worth 12$. My friend got the shrimp scampi which she said was okay. Prob won't go back unless it's to hang out by the bar since it was poppin' when we left! As a New Jersey transplant I'm used to dining on really good authentic Italian food and until last night I didn't think I would experience it in southern Delaware. This restaurant has quaint old world charm original to its circa 1973 roots. Exposed dark wood beams and Italian murals on the walls greet you in the main dining area along with booths on the walls and sparsely set Looking at the menu I had a hard time deciding but eventually went with the tried and true angel hair aka capellini pasta with meat sauce and meatballs. The portion was so massive it could have been two meals! Let me back up though because the bread and garlic oil dip is magical and out of this world! My family and I killed three baskets and took a bottle of the oil home for $10. Back to the sketti, the sauce was rich and smooth with no tinny or acidic taste and the meatball was seasoned and flavorful. Soup or salad is complimentary with the entree. I choose a salad w the house Italian and it was so fresh with dark leafy greens, carrots, cucumber, and onions but no tomatoes for some reason. The dressing was delicious and unique with a nice vinegary kick. I need to try the soup next time! I left euphorically pleased with a fat happy belly! Bottom line is this place is the epitome of being welcomed into a Nonnas house for some authentic made with love Italian fare! read more

I made a reservation for Saturday at 4pm for 3 people. They open at 4pm, so when we arrived, we were the only table there but it filled up quickly. Our server was Rich. Rich was very friendly, informative and attentive. We started with the fried calamari and it was very good. The breading was very light which we really liked and it came with 2 dipping sauces (red sauce and white sauce). I ordered the Seafood Misti and it came with a house salad. Both were very good! Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well. One got the lobster ravioli with Italian Wedding soup and the other got Seafood Ravioli with vodka cream sauce and a salad. We also ordered the brownie with the mouse on top for dessert. Everything was delicious! I will definitely go back when I am back in Dover. read more

We had not been to Romas in a long while and decided to try it for dinner tonight. I ordered a house salad with White Balsamic Vinegar on the ride ( I rend to like very little dressing on my salads.) The greens were fresh but dressing was very garlicky soI ate very little of it. For my meal I ordered the Chicken Française. The menu described it was chicken in a lemon sauce on top Of broccoli then topped with mozzarella cheese. The broccoli wasn't cooked st all - very crunchy. There was no taste of lemon in the chicken - again overpowering garlic. The pêne pasta and sauce were bland. Disappointing meal. The service was good. We won't be back again anytime soon. read more

I've been to the particular restaurant 4 times in the past 4 months. Each time the service seems to get worse and the staff is mediocre. The drinks are weak and the food is ok if you get appetizers. The female manager stopped by the table smelling like a mixture of cheap wine and cigarettes. Most recently I had the Seafood Misti and everything about it screamed overcooked and over salted. I requested the linguine to be al dente and it was again over cooked not as requested. This restaurant was highly recommended to me and I have been extremely disappointed. read more

We had a reservation for 6 and our table was ready even though we were a tad early. We started with a drink and ordered appetizers. My husband and I shared the calamari, which was crispy, yet delicate. We also shared the mussels in garlic and white wine which was delicious. A couple in our party chose the shrimp cocktail and the large cooked shrimp looked appetizing and they said cooked perfectly. Everyone enjoyed their entrees which ranged from lobster ravioli, to pasta, to scallops and veal. The wait staff was excellent. My only complaint being the bidders who tried clearing my plate twice before I was finished. We ended up here at 9pm on Saturday after missing our dinner reservation due to a 2+ hour traffic jam so we were not in the best mood when trying to figure out a backup plan. We drove by Roma and since it has been quite a while since I've been, decided to stop in. I am so glad we did! They definitely turned our frowns upside down! Every person we interacted with was kind, warm and provided excellent service. There's a nice, calming ambiance as well. First, they start you off with complimentary bread and oil - I ate so much that I didn't have any room left for my entree! Absolutely delicious. My fiance had the steak and it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I had the chicken florentine with risotto and wow - it was very well seasoned and is something I would most certainly order again. Portion sizes were generous - I just had some of my chicken for breakfast and it was so good that I had to come here and spread the word! Don't sleep on this place. I've heard about Romas for years. I've passed it so many times I can't even fathom. My wife and I went in on a last minute spur of the moment. My wife likes Italian more than I do, or I should say I don't usually go because I'm a bit of a food snob and have had the real thing in the family owned restaurants in Philadelphia, New York, Illinois on the Hill. I ordered gnocchi with muscles. I took a couple muscles and opened them up, they were so over cooked and probably frozen before cooking. They came apart like they were shredded. I've never Actually seen muscles come apart like that when you free them from the shell. My gnocchi was not firm, or cooked in salt water. They were so soft, it felt like I was eating little balls of mashed potatoes. I never asked to return them, but the server saw my face as I tried the food. I pushed the bowl forward and was just gonna enjoy my drink and let my wife finish eating. The server very apologetically asked to take the food back and I had honestly filled up on appetizers, so wasn't really worried about it. I finally gave in after she asked me again. I just asked to have them make it to go. When I got home, I opened the dish and gave it a second try. I got the exact same food. The muscles were not firm. They just shredded apart. I laughingly gave one to my golden lab, he snapped it up and then dropped it to the floor. So I guess my dog nor I like the muscles. The gnocchi was soft and flavorless, and had no texture. After hearing great reviews for years. I'd say I was more than disappointed. To top it all off, a manager never checked on us once. read more

Ambiance/Decor/Atmosphere: Roma's decor is slightly antiquated but nonetheless neat with a feel of reminiscent Italian scenery. For the most part it is a classy enough looking restaurant that is inviting and warm. The level of lighting is just right, not too dark but enough to set the mood. Noise/sound level: The noise level is average, nothing out of the ordinary here. Menu: The menu is a little small and contains household Italian items that everyone should already know of. It is a little plain and boring and could sway diners to other restaurants that are not interested in the specials or standard fare. But, there are a small handful of intriguing items to be had. Service: The service is average, nothing bad here, a little slow but at least the servers pay attention to detail enough to keep everyone satisfied. The staff are pretty friendly and the restaurant is quite accommodating. Food: The food is excellent, I'm not particularly fond of Italian food but this was some of the best I've had. The party I was with had vegetable risotto, chicken parm, seafood fra diavolo, and ciopino. None of the seafood was gritty or over cooked, the rice was rich and creamy and not dry, and the chicken parms were cooked correctly, not like you can really mess that up. Even if there are a few hits or misses the food more than makes up for it. Bar: The bartender was a little lost and did not know how to make certain drinks for some of the diners with me. It would have been best if they asked first or suggested something else. Price: Everything except the chicken parm was priced well. The chicken parm costs $17 which is quite ridiculous but my eight fish ciopino costs $25 and that included another soup and bread along with the accompanied pasta. I don't think you can beat that with a rocket launcher if you wanted to. I am not too sure why this place has taken a review beating like it has. Everything is very good to nearly excellent and some of these reviews seem begrudgingly phony. I know people will experience and expect different things but sometimes people will have off days. It's unfortunate all it takes to damage a restaurant's credibility is a few lame reviews from a few spoiled whiny diners. I will definitely go back, too bad you won't. read more

Here's the good...came to this restaurant on Friday July 19th for my cousins rehearsal dinner. We were the last part of the family to show and the staff was very helpful in adding an extra table and chairs. The waitresses were attentive and polite. We had a party of possibly 40 people. I work in customer service and in my opinion the staff did the best they could and with a smile. I understand with that many people it can get tedious with different people needing different things and asking multiple waitresses, and again they did it all with a smile. The food was great to me, I didn't hear any complaints from family and friends about the food or staff. I had the crab cakes by the way! Let's get to the bad. Now it's time for us to go and a few people had already paid and left by this point. The waitresses (probably about 4-5 of them) had stacks of receipts in their hands trying to give them to the right people. They tried calling out orders from receipts and my cousin asked us to quiet down so she could help them get in the right hands. My fiance and I waited about 45 min for ours and by that point my aunt asked for a manager to come so they could help the situation. She wasn't rude- she just thought they could help organize better because it was becoming a big cluster of confusion. In comes the owners wife (I did my research make sure I identified her correctly because I was there listening to her talk) KRISTIN GARRAMONE. She came in defensive and rude. We were all calm trying to help because we wanted to go. She said the staff is telling her that WE (the party) were rude to them! She said a party that big should not be dividing checks (which I understand and agree) but that's not on us, that's on your staff and your staff to inform whoever set up event in the first place. No one was informed and your staff clearly didn't know they shouldn't have divided them up either. Again, not the party's fault. One waitress spoke up and said she wasn't treated badly and my aunt thanked her and later tipped her more for speaking up! My cousin calmly said to her " This is my rehearsal dinner and you are being rude to my guest" Kristin didn't care and then my fiance stepped in calmly, assertively, and politely "Mam, I've been waiting for my check for about 45 min. How about calling out the orders and doing it that way." She cut him off rudely and more commotion went on after. By the end of this banter with her she said to my aunt and cousin " I DON'T CARE. GET YOUR CHECKS AND GET THE F*CK OUT" . After that she left the restaurant and left her staff to deal with the rest! They had too many waitresses/waiters doing checks. They were reprinting checks from people who had already paid and left. My uncle ended up paying for a check that wasn't his because he wanted it to be done with. My other cousin had to come back to show his signed receipt to show proof it was paid for. It was all a mess and the staff again did the best they could with a smile. TO KRISTIN- if your staff did complain to you about people being rude, you don't throw them under the bus, piss off the customers, and leave them to do YOUR JOB. Unprofessional, rude, and YOU have NO customer service or management skills! read more

This is THE BEST Italian Restaurant in Delaware. They have the best wait staff most friendly I have ever encountered. Chef is absolutely the best. Most amazing food I have ever had. We had my son and daughter in laws 1st wedding anniversary party there and they made it such a wonderful experience for everyone of us!!!! The owners are so kind and friendly!!!
