We ate at Jack's on Main in Clayton. A small house only 9-10 tables definitely make reservations for this delightful food destination. Had the special rockfish with lobster and fresh vegetables and baked potato! Highly recommend this restaurant and will be back read more

A very small and quaint restaurant with the kitchen and chef in view when you enter the restaurant that makes it feel like you are about to have a special dining experience when you enter the restaurant. Nice greeting and seating, service and server were friendly, helpful, great. Selection of appetizers and entrees is very good and from our table of 6 everything ordered was delicious and very enjoyable as it is every time we have eaten there. We love Jack's on Main and 1 request.... Jack, as busy as it may be back there...please say hi to folks at some point in the evening.... It would be a great add to a great experience. read more

Phenomenal! Even with it being NYE and a packed house. Food was FRESH! Delicious and served hot! Our baked potato, done to perfection remained hot throughout the whole meal! The fresh rolls & the crisp salads were top quality. The lemon scallops appetizer was tender, a good portion & not a hint of fishiness. My husband and I both got the short ribs (and I got it with a crab cake) the meat was so tender it melts in your mouth. The gravy was a perfect complement, rich flavorful & not masked by salt. The seasonal veggies were perfectly cooked & seasoned. The baked potato perfection and you know! The crab cake was delicately seasoned with minimal filler. Then dessert. The crème Brûlée was creamy with that sugared caramelized crust. My husband got the raspberry cheesecake that was homemade, creamy and deliciously decadent. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The owner worked tirelessly pumping out plates while the servers remained in sync. A very well orchestrated service. Kudos! read more

Dined in this little gem for the second time a few days ago, the first time being about a month ago. I had already prepared myself with the "nothing is ever as good the second time" axiom. WRONG. If anything, the food was even better! ( and it was wonderful the first time). The front-of-the-house chef (actually, "in-the-same-room chef"). delightful staff, and interesting and delectable menu really delivered (again). First, please do not be underwhelmed by Jack's quaint, comfortable, although mostly forgettable, decor. It will quickly become obvious that Jack's chef does not need smoke and mirrors. The dining room/ chef's kitchen is a perfectly adequate space to enjoy one of the best meals you'll likely ever have. For perhaps the only time in my dining experience life (40+ years), I was actually GLAD that Jack's doesn't have a liquor license (yet). As a guy who loves and deeply appreciates coupling my food with a good beer/wine, after the first few bites I was actually THANKFUL that I did not have the opportunity to dilute the experience of the chef's brilliant creations with alcohol. I selfishly want to keep this spot a secret for myself, my friends, and my family, but the chef and his staff's sublime efforts deserve every bit of the attention that they will undoubtedly have in the near future. Although I was easily able to make same-day reservations for both of the dinners I had at Jack's on Main, my sense is that (at least if there is any justice in the world) it will be prudent for me to make my future reservations well in advance. read more

Our dinner at Jack's on Main was a wonderful experience, from the excellent service to the delicious food. We started with the crab dip - so yummy & was a perfect start to our dinner. I ordered crab cakes and my husband ordered the beef short ribs. Both dishes were made very well, and the plate presentation was beautiful. Veggies on the side were also perfect. We also splurged on desserts, and tried both the chocolate molten cake with ice cream & crème brûlée. Awesome. We are thrilled to have such a quaint and delicious "date night" option within a few minutes of home. The ambience is cozy, too. Kudos to the staff and owner for bringing a stellar dining experience to downtown Clayton! read more

Just came from Dinner. The service was amazing... we had Jenna and she is as sweet as pie. The restaurant is very small and extremely charming. I bought my daughter here for her birthday. I went with the specials of the day. The tuna wontons looked pretty, but the chef used wayyyy too much wasabi and the tuna tasted old... the scallops were a tad undercooked, but we scrapped the wasabi and waited for our mains dishes. This is where it was truly disappointing. The shrimp on both dishes were like rubber. The chicken lacked any real color and tasted like it was boiled. The shrimp and grits tasted strongly of cumin. We sent that back and was surprised that is was in the bill until we requested it to be taken off. I really really wanted to love this place because it can be a whole vibe (they also need an exhaust fan). Birthday dinner was a bust.... Ugh. Presentation, service and ambiance all get an A... the actual food gets a D. Maybe it was an off night. Not going back to test this theory. read more

This is a wonderful small town restaurant. I loved the limited menu which means that they only serve what they are good at. Hubby had the cheesesteak and he really enjoyed it. I had the crab melt which was delicious. The crab bisque was delicious with chunks of crab meat in it. I want to go back for the crab stuffed artichoke. Our cheerful server was superb in knowing the menu, tending to our drinks without being asked to, and making us feel so welcome. Fabulous place and I can't wait to go back again. read more
