Ok so, let me just say I work hard for my money( like everyone does) so if the establishment is not welcoming I just leave, I got there round 11:30am(they open at 12) the line was down the store bout 50 ppl, so when we got in at 1st I thought maybe they weren't welcoming( but I said just wait it out)then as I ordered I said hmm she is pleasant, she was very nice, I get my food, now with the prices as they are(which is worth every penny might I add) you want to feel appreciated, and this place is so professional and organized by the time I got my food is was about 50 more ppl had arrived, even the customer greet you, I can understand running a business is not easy and this owner got the blueprint, so I say please give this place a try you will love it they are beautiful ppl beautiful food. read more

My mother brought me some food from this establishment all the way to nyc and never again will I eat from here! First of all, I had the "catfish" meal with Mac and cheese and greens as my two sides. The macaroni and cheese looked as well as tasted like it was cooked on top of the stove instead of being baked in an open and it tasted very creamy from there being no shape it. Secondly, I have never had greens from any soul food restaurant that was all chopped up so that tells me that the greens are not fresh either they're from out of the can. Lastly, the "catfish" that I thought that I was getting turned out not to be catfish at all it's TILAPIA which is the most highly fish NOT to eat. Thank God my mother also brought me an order of catfish from Make My Fish in Harlem on 116th street between Lenox and Seventh where they make really good catfish and sides! With their prices you should not only be getting two pieces of fish. Do not advertise what you cannot afford to supply, respectfully. read more

This was my first visit to Tomeka's. Arrived on a Thursday afternoon - maybe 2 parties inside. I was greeted with a friendly face/smile. I ordered: - Honey garlic salmon w/ mac n cheese and yams - large sweet tea The salmon was served on a bed of rice and a roll is included with the order. The salmon was large - I was able to make this into 2 meals. Everything on the plate was delicious. The yams are southern sweet - which I like. The sweet tea ... reminds me of a fruit punch/kool-aid. It was really good, but doesn't taste like brewed sweet tea. There was also pieces of fruit inside (lemon/strawberry/grapefruit). This place is a must visit if you're in the area! read more

I've been meaning to check out Tomeka's since I first read about her opening (Dover does not have enough indie restaurants), and my first visit was nothing short of amazing! Everything that my husband and I ordered was absolutely delicious - bbq ribs, sweet & sour salmon over rice, the must have mac & cheese, decadent candied yams and richly seasoned greens - ALL cooked to perfection! You order lunch line style from a variety of daily specials, and while they seem to do a lot of take out there is a cozy seating area. The staff was helpful & friendly, checking in with us while we ate. I really can't compliment Tomeka's cooking enough, so treat yourself to some of the best comfort/soul food ever - can't wait to go back read more

I am the normal fried pork chop cooker in the home. I have recently become ill, moved to a new state, and have NOT been able to enjoy a good ole fashioned, southern fried pork chop...until now. I was doing my quarterly hunt for a fried pork chop and came across Tomeka's Homestyle Eatery. I looked at the menu, and swore not to get excited when it listed a fried pork chop platter; only downside is it was ONLY open from on the weekend (Fri-Sun). Of course, it was Thurs (my sad excuse of instant gratification was on high alert), but I had to wait. Being ill, I had to talk someone into going out to order and pickup the golden fried pork chop; so, after begging, my dad agreed! Soon the heavenly skies in Magnolia opened up, and I ate! As I said I ordered the fried pork chop platter with a side of turnip greens, and corn pudding; while the meal came with a nice sized slice of cornbread. I prayed, grabbed my fork and knife and dove in, I was NOT let down!! The chop was delicious, my corn pudding was like my mother used to make, and the turnip greens were seasoned...just right (although collards are my fav, I tore these up too)! I was sincerely fat AND happy! My ONLY problem was there was 1 pork chop. Even so, I did not let that deter me, and begged for a re-order. At this time my dad was kind eniugh to mention that 2-pork chops could come in the meal. Well, of course, I had to order again. This time I got the same platter, but with 2-chops, turnip greens and mac & cheese...my son got baked turkey wings with corn pudding and peach cobbler. Again all were delicious!! 2-turkey wings came with the meal. They were seasoned well, juicy and tender, peach cobbler was yummers as wee! This time we received biscuits, nir cornbread, and we tore them up too! i will be going again, but have decided to hold off a bit...because my waistline will start to tell on me, but best believe...I will be back! read more

Finally made it to this establishment. Walked in and was greeted by cashier. Place looked really clean and neat. First off the tea is delicious, oh my goodness was gonna have the Mountain Dew soda glad I didn't. There was enough sugar and the fruit was fresh tasting. Had fish, rice,cabbage and also tasted the macaroni and cheese. Everything was really good, well seasoned. The place is located in the cut, if you didn't know you would go right pass it.
