We were in earlier this week for a repass. Although it was not the best occasion for the family, your team was very kind and accommodating. Our table had fried catfish, fried whiting, mac and cheese, collard greens and candied yams and the lamb cheesesteak. Everything was prepared to order with huge portions. I really like the fact there was a private room that is available for small gatherings. I will be coming back. read more

Aunt Vonda’s Kitchen Table - Lamb Cheesesteak - Soul Food Near Me - Newark, Delaware

Looking for soul food in Delaware, one word....DONT! I've tried a few places and haven't found anywhere I would wanna return to. After being influenced by yet another instagran review, I decided to try this place. Im convinced a lot of these so called food critics on social media aren't very honest. The review I watched said this place had the best mac & cheese but im sad to report she lied. The mac was the WORST dish on the platter. No flavor & definitely not made with the 4/5 cheeses they claim. The sweet potatoes were okay. Nothing special. The lamb was the best thing I had. I liked the sauce was really good and they were cooked well. Lamb chops arent really considered soul food but I definitely expected the sides to be on point based on the reviews I saw. Sadly, I'm in absolutely no rush to eat here again read more

Review of Aunt Vonda's / Plated Soul by Vonda - 1.5/10 I ordered from Aunt Vonda's (Plated Soul by Vonda) on DoorDash last night. This was my first time trying it because the prices always seemed a bit high, and unfortunately, the experience confirmed that hesitation. First, the location is confusing for a first-time customer. When you drive to the front, the sign says to go around to the side, but there's no clear direction on where exactly to enter. It shouldn't feel like a scavenger hunt just to pick up food. When I did walk in, the strong smell of weed was immediately noticeable. I understand that some people smoke, but a restaurant should never force customers to smell that--especially when they're coming to pick up or eat food. It's just common courtesy. There were three other patrons waiting when I entered, and no employees in sight. We all commented on how long we were waiting. It took about 10 minutes before anyone even came out of the back. One woman actually walked out before being helped. Even once staff appeared, there was no sense of urgency. Two ladies at the bar were sitting with empty glasses, and the employees were moving extremely slowly. When the take-out server finally came out, she helped the woman next to me and completely ignored me--no "I'll be right with you," no acknowledgment at all. When she eventually gave me my bag, she just put it on the bar. Not even a simple "Thank you" or "Have a good night." As for the food: I had to wait 25-30 minutes after the "ready" notification, plus the 10-minute drive home. By the time I got it, the fish (whiting) was soggy. I ended up air-frying it just to make it somewhat edible. The seasoning was basically nonexistent, and the pieces near the skin were inedible. I also ordered mac and cheese and cinnamon sweet potatoes. I didn't eat the sweet potatoes, but someone else did and said they were good--the only positive of the whole meal. The mac and cheese looked like it had been sitting out since morning. It had no flavor, and the sauce had separated, which made the cheese curdled and grainy. Between the atmosphere, the lack of professionalism, the poor service, and the quality of the food, I would never return. This is food I could easily make at home for cheaper and far better. Final rating: 1.5 out of 10--and that's only for the sweet potatoes. I do not recommend this place. read more

The first time here but by no means the last. The atmosphere is casual and plesant and the decor is inviting. The staff was were nice and professional. The menu board was a good use of technology and afforded the guest time to peruse the selections. I had their salmon and was not disappointed. My wife had the catfish and let me have a bite. I think I might have the catfish next. A definite must try. read more

Well, here I go again, but can you blame me? The food here is just freaking amazing. Remind me of my great-grandmother's kitchen. Everything that comes out of it is with love, the atmosphere and the ambiance, the staff is just great. Period I'm OS auntie Danda for help with my gym membership because I've been here at least 7 times since first discovering it over a month ago, but again you can't blame me. The food is just amazing, everything that I have tried, and I'm working my way down the Mining, you live each and every time I come. I'm ordering 2 Mills at 1 time and the strawberry pineapple lemonade. Let me tell you I thought the raspberry eliminate was the game changer this? Brawberry pineapple eliminate is a game changer I got 2. I'm going back again tomorrow. Get two mo. If you have not been here, please make sure you stop by this hidden. Jim and get you some good homecock food. They're open Thursday through Sunday only which it's great. Get your fix trust me you will not be disappoint read more

So I frequent Delaware (a whole lot). Let me tell you I was looking for something fast to grab on my way back to Maryland. This place isn't considered fast food and I'm glad because this food was the best soul food i've had in a LONGGGGGGGGGG time. As the young kids say, this place was "bussin." I had a lamb cheesesteak and that sh*t was SOOOOOOOOOOOO good. The cheesesteak was served with fries and the fries were cool. I had a side of mac and cheese and sweet potatoes and they tasted like my mother made them and I personally think my mom's cooking is hard to top most days. The place is small, but has enough seating for a couple people to sit down and eat. I chose to sit down and eat and really my only complaint is that I didn't order more. I will be going back very soon to try more! read more

I was so hungry for soul food and I haven't been to Vonda's in over a year. I thought to give them another try. This was my 3rd and final disappointment with this place. There's no love in this food whatsoever. The fried fish was supposed to be whiting and idk what I got. It was the toughest fish I ever had to chew. There was no flavor and adding hot sauce couldn't even help it. The cabbage was seasoned with parsley!!! The mac n chz was bland and not cheesy. I got 2 fish platters and it's $40 down the drain ‍ read more

I get excited when I find a soul food place in Delaware. I knew I immediately needed to check it out. The salmon cheesesteak was loaded with salmon, peppers and cheese. The flavor of the cheesesteak was definitely there, but the roll was so soggy that it was hard to eat. The cheesesteak was also served with fries. The fries were not as crispy as I would have liked. I also ordered wings. The wings were huge! Customer service was great! I ordered online and my order was ready with the pickup time I was given. They have a regular menu as well as daily lunch specials. Vonda's is open Thursday through Sunday. read more

Very disappointing with the business practices of this establishment. The phone number goes right to voicemail. The recording has a message about closed for renovations prior to thanksgiving. It's now NYE. Business hours say 12p-9p on one site and something different on another. Either way they weren't open but still taking reservations. Horrible business and I won't try them again. read more

I support all business but aunt Vonda's is going down hill since I started seeing more kids and different adults I had my nephew call at 8:15-20 ish I know they close at 9:00 but when the phones just picks up and slams down every time that's a issue so I personally had him drive down there and he had the proof and everything he called poor customer service and lady kept telling him they closing ETC he called me and said they said they close and phones get cut off at 8:30 rather go to aunt Berta then deal with this don't get me wrong I love my soul food but I won't support a business with bad customer service especially calling over 4x just to get hung up on read more

My mother loves soul food and it's her birthday. She specifically wants turkey wings and when I googled this place it told me they sold turkey wings. So I decided to give them a call just to confirm and I found out. They only have turkey wings, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and not Thursday. so we still decided to take our mother here and I'm glad we did when we ordered our food we decided to dine in. And I would say it took a good 40 minutes for our food to be done which was OK. We were not in a rush and we were eating in the restaurant when I say the food came out EXTREMELY HOT :) .It was definitely worth the wait. She has her own signature sweet tea that has real peaches in it. It is so so so good. We ordered four different meals. I would say my least favorite was the shrimp and grits. I felt like the grits were kind of leftover. They were not as smooth, but they had flavor. Now the fried chicken was amazing. This will be the main reason why we go back. As far as the sides we had the spinach we had the obey french fries. We had the mac & cheese, and we had the yams. They were all good. When you order meals, they give you a complementary piece of cornbread, which was nice as well. Now I know to call my order ahead of time so I won't be sitting around waiting. read more

Tried this place for the first time and had the fried chicken with sweet potatoes w/cinnamon. The chicken was so heavy breaded that it was all I could taste. The wings had about one bit to them. The potatoes were mushy and gross, way too heavy on the cinnamon. I was looking for a place close by that had good fried chicken, but I guess I'll have to keep on looking. read more

This establishment has officially ticked me off for the final time. I ordered via door dash. My food is piping hot served with a side of ICE COLD MASHED POTATOES (that I did not order). I ordered potato salad. They called and said they were out so I asked for spinach (as you see they clearly wrote on my receipt). But these ICE COLD Mashed potatoes with SUGAR IN THEM? Why are they sweet? I had to poke my finger in it twice to feel all the way through. They are ICE COLD. I kid you not. Yall should be ashamed. I'd say some choice words if I could. There's no excuse for this and I'll make sure to tell everyone I know not to go to this restaurant. Oh, and I didn't get my butter pecan slice of cake either! Pathetic as they come. Dawg what?! read more

I called in my order told it would take 45 minutes. When I got there the young boy told me there is not order. Black guy asked me if I called in the order or order online. I told me called in they asked for my name and number. I said wait a minute went in the back and came out. Told me they are working on my food. I said ok first time trying this place. After standing waiting 30 minutes on top of the 45. The black guy came out and saw me still waiting. Asked me a 3rd time my name and order. He went to the computer told me there is no order with my name. Ask me again what did I order. By then he saw the pissed off look on my face. I showed me the phone number. He going to ask again what did I order. By now I am 38 hot and pissed to the highness level of pissed. I told him this why its so hard to support BOB (black owned business) . I told him If I had went to the white man. I would not have gotten this type of service. He going to say what does BOB have to do with this. I told him a lot this is messy. He got pissed and said "I don't even want your damn service". I told he trust me I can take my money somewhere else. But I tell you what you will get this bad ass review online. I would not suggest going there. I called my other BOB spot. Took 20 minutes to get there. Food was hot and bagged. Cheaper than what I would have spend with Aunt V's kitchen bc I order the same food. Customer Service is everything to me when I am spending my money. DON'T EVEN GO TO THIS MESSY ASS PLACE. If I could give them a negative zero I would. read more
