The review I watched said this place had the best mac & cheese but im sad to report she lied. The mac was the WORST dish on the platter. No flavor & definitely not made with the 4/5 cheeses they claim. The sweet potatoes were okay. Nothing special. The lamb was the best thing I had. Review of Aunt Vonda's / Plated Soul by Vonda - 1.5/10 I ordered from Aunt Vonda's (Plated Soul by Vonda) on DoorDash last night. This was my first time trying it because the prices always seemed a bit high, and unfortunately, the experience confirmed that hesitation. First, the location is confusing for a first-time customer. When you drive to the front, the sign says to go around to the side, but there's no clear direction on where exactly to enter. It shouldn't feel like a scavenger hunt just to pick up food. When I did walk in, the strong smell of weed was immediately noticeable. I understand that some people smoke, but a restaurant should never force customers to smell that--especially when they're coming to pick up or eat food. It's just common courtesy. There were three other patrons waiting when I entered, and no employees in sight. We all commented on how long we were waiting. It took about 10 minutes before anyone even came out of the back. One woman actually walked out before being helped. Even once staff appeared, there was no sense of urgency. Two ladies at the bar were sitting with empty glasses, and the employees were moving extremely slowly. When the take-out server finally came out, she helped the woman next to me and completely ignored me--no "I'll be right with you," no acknowledgment at all. When she eventually gave me my bag, she just put it on the bar. Not even a simple "Thank you" or "Have a good night." As for the food: I had to wait 25-30 minutes after the "ready" notification, plus the 10-minute drive home. By the time I got it, the fish (whiting) was soggy. I ended up air-frying it just to make it somewhat edible. The seasoning was basically nonexistent, and the pieces near the skin were inedible. I also ordered mac and cheese and cinnamon sweet potatoes. I didn't eat the sweet potatoes, but someone else did and said they were good--the only positive of the whole meal. The mac and cheese looked like it had been sitting out since morning. It had no flavor, and the sauce had separated, which made the cheese curdled and grainy. Between the atmosphere, the lack of professionalism, the poor service, and the quality of the food, I would never return. This is food I could easily make at home for cheaper and far better. Final rating: 1.5 out of 10--and that's only for the sweet potatoes. I do not recommend this place. read more

The first time here but by no means the last. The atmosphere is casual and plesant and the decor is inviting. The staff was were nice and professional. The menu board was a good use of technology and afforded the guest time to peruse the selections. I had their salmon and was not disappointed. My wife had the catfish and let me have a bite. Everything that comes out of it is with love, the atmosphere and the ambiance, the staff is just great. Period I'm OS auntie Danda for help with my gym membership because I've been here at least 7 times since first discovering it over a month ago, but again you can't blame me. I was so hungry for soul food and I haven't been to Vonda's in over a year. I thought to give them another try. This was my 3rd and final disappointment with this place. There's no love in this food whatsoever. The fried fish was supposed to be whiting and idk what I got. It was the toughest fish I ever had to chew. This place isn't considered fast food and I'm glad because this food was the best soul food i've had in a LONGGGGGGGGGG time. As the young kids say, this place was "bussin." I had a lamb cheesesteak and that sh*t was SOOOOOOOOOOOO good. The cheesesteak was served with fries and the fries were cool. I had a side of mac and cheese and sweet potatoes and they tasted like my mother made them and I personally think my mom's cooking is hard to top most days. I get excited when I find a soul food place in Delaware. I knew I immediately needed to check it out. The salmon cheesesteak was loaded with salmon, peppers and cheese. The flavor of the cheesesteak was definitely there, but the roll was so soggy that it was hard to eat. The cheesesteak was also served with fries. The fries were not as crispy as I would have liked. I also ordered wings. The wings were huge! Customer service was great! I ordered online and my order was ready with the pickup time I was given. Tried this place for the first time and had the fried chicken with sweet potatoes w/cinnamon. The chicken was so heavy breaded that it was all I could taste. The wings had about one bit to them. My mother loves soul food and it's her birthday. She specifically wants turkey wings and when I googled this place it told me they sold turkey wings. So I decided to give them a call just to confirm and I found out. They only have turkey wings, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and not Thursday. so we still decided to take our mother here and I'm glad we did when we ordered our food we decided to dine in. And I would say it took a good 40 minutes for our food to be done which was OK. We were not in a rush and we were eating in the restaurant when I say the food came out EXTREMELY HOT :) .It was definitely worth the wait. She has her own signature sweet tea that has real peaches in it. It is so so so good. We ordered four different meals. I would say my least favorite was the shrimp and grits. I felt like the grits were kind of leftover. They were not as smooth, but they had flavor. Now the fried chicken was amazing. This will be the main reason why we go back. As far as the sides we had the spinach we had the obey french fries. We had the mac & cheese, and we had the yams. They were all good. This establishment has officially ticked me off for the final time. I ordered via door dash. My food is piping hot served with a side of ICE COLD MASHED POTATOES (that I did not order). I ordered potato salad. They called and said they were out so I asked for spinach (as you see they clearly wrote on my receipt). But these ICE COLD Mashed potatoes with SUGAR IN THEM?
