I ate at the Mayne Dish today. Usually they are fantastic. NOT TODAY! They screwed up my 2 food orders. I ordered pepper steak with white rice and my wife ordered jerk chicken with brown rice. We'll Mayne Dish totally screwed up the rice orders. I got brown rice instead of white rice and my wife received my white rice. Both meals taste terrible and ended up going in the trash. Had Mayne Dish today....have reviewed their food before and generally liked it....today this is $27 dollars of undercooked oxtail...super fatty that wasn't cooked long enough to render and the meat itself had the considtency of well done steak...I also got goat which also wasn't tender or juicy but at least had flavor....asked and ordered extra gravy AND paid for and had a line line of gravy that looked like they used a big spoon and scooped a spoonful threw it on the rice and called it a day....very sloppy and lazy 2.3 out of 10 and 1000% waste of money read more

I used to order the Rasta Pasta from the food truck/stand on Rt.13 in New Castle; it was delicious! I traveled to the store on Kirkwood Hwy, since the stand has closed for the winter. The pasta tasted nothing like the truck - it was bland and lacked jerk seasoning or flavor. My husband has been ordering takeout from here every 2-3 weeks since we moved to Wilmington in 2018 from out of state and it is always on point. Everything on the menu isn't always available and the closer it gets to closing, the more they'll be out of. However, I find that to be the case with any Jamaican restaurant I ever order from - so I expect it. Everyone that helps me is always kind. And the food always on point. I went to the Mayne Dish looking for authentic Caribbean food and I found it! Be patient when you go. Service was good. The first time I had the jerk chicken. I have to say I am not a jerk chicken fan but they were out of oxtail. It was so good! Tender and spicy! The plantains were ripe and fried just right. The carrot cake was delicious. This used to be a good restaurant that an older lady ran. She was kind and made great food. Since it changed hands, maybe 3 years now, it has been vastly upgraded. For instance, I now want to sit down and eat with my family. The owners have changed the decor to make it more contemporary and inviting. Other good changes include steadier hours and quicker service. I might have to visit this place more often to try out more of the menu. Speaking in the menu, my entree selection was good. It makes me want to come back by the hot temperature and delicious taste. I had the Oxtails and they were pretty expensive but worth it. The small meal is really enough for two. Slow cooked, tender, spiced perfectly and the rice and peas (black eyed peas) go perfectly with it. Tried the brown stew chicken today and it is outstanding as well. The restaurant is small and minimalistic but always very clean. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The portions are huge. I became a regular customer after my first visit. Tip: Order early. This restaurant is across the street fro the hospital I work at. Orders two orders of curried shrimp. Mind you my gripe is with the food. However, $18 for a lunch platter is ridiculous as well. That being said you'd expect nice sized, perfectly cooked shrimp. NOT!! One of my orders was totally wrong. Both orders were DRY!! Rice soaked up all juice before it arrived.
