    Oxtail over beans and rice
    Kathy W.

So thanks to fellow yelpers I was drawn to this restaurant and I happen to absolutely adore oxtail was on my menu to cook last week I just ran out of time as it is a time consuming meal to prepare. I ordered towards the end of their evening and I was happy to know that they still had some left I was working nearby so popped in for a to-go order and I'm so so glad that I did. I meant a lovely woman I'm assuming she's the owner we briefly spoke of Jamaica and she let me know that they've got a great Saturday breakfast as well can't wait to try that so back to the oxtail cooked wonderfully if you like oxtail I highly recommend this dish nice and flavorful if you like it spicy add some Scotch bonnet before you leave or eat in!!! I happen to travel with hot sauce so I was set but trying it without the hot sauce it still had a great simmer of flavor built in it the rice was wonderfully flaky and full of flavor also I loved how she did the beans in the rice. Almost definitely be back next time I'm in town.

If you from NY... Now, let's address the Dover dilemma. Bless their hearts, but those "Caribbean" joints? They're about as Jamaican as a penguin in flip-flops. Because of a family member that lives near Wilmington, a mere 35 to 40 minutes away, lies Negril's Restaurant Located smack dab in a Wilmington neighborhood that's as diverse as the flavors on the menu, Negril's isn't just a restaurant; it's a reminder that authentic food does exist in Delaware. The service was great! The rice and peas, cooked to perfection with coconut milk, plantains--ripe, sweet, and perfectly caramelized, they're like little slices of heaven on your plate. Jerk chicken sizzles on the grill, and trust me, it's chopped not serve to you like you a hog. Curry chicken that's as rich in color as it is in flavor, brown stew chicken that was clearly browned then stewed and didn't come from a crockpot. Bottom line if you no see no "thyme, pimento seed, scallion, sweet pepper, carrrrottttt, or gravy that is supposed to be gravy, and none of that watery nonsense then you know it's not Caribbean food. Only thing missing is the fresh salad, but the well-seasoned steamed cabbage makes up for that. So, if you're tired of settling for food that's blander than a loaf of white bread, take a detour to Negril's and you will see what "we a chat bout" Trust me, your palate and your stomach will thank you!!

The food here is so good! The service was actually great too & the woman who rung me up was pleasant! Definitely a spot for takeout but I'm glad I found this place & can't wait to come back!

I really enjoyed my food. I've gotten to oxtail platter multiple times. I really enjoy it, it was some of the best I found in Delaware!

I got the curry goat for myself, the brown strew chicken for my mom, and the jerk chicken for my dad.

I finally visited this restaurant and I'm ashamed to say it took so long. It was a great time of…read moreday because it wasn't busy. There was plenty of seats available, I didn't wait to be helped, and everything was in stock! All menu items, refreshments, and desserts! This sounds weird but it isn't uncommon for Jamaican restaurants to run out of some food item. Value: I ordered a small plate of Jerk Chicken. It came with a choice of white rice or rice & peas and cabbage. I also had a choice of plantain or yams/sweet potatoes. This is a great value because it's common for you to only get a choice of rice and 1 additional side item. Additionally, I purchased a Ginger Beer and a slice of Carrot Cake. Taste: The rice and peas were good. They had a traditional Jamaican taste that was dryer and the way I like it. The jerk chicken was mild and had a BBQ-like taste. It didn't taste like traditional Jerk to me but was well flavored. The portions are generous so you will be full before you finish it. The Ginger Beer was a classic bottled beverage. The taste was consistent. Nothing really to report. The carrot cake was the overall winner! WOW! Perfectly flavored, not too heavy, and the a good price for the portion. I highly recommend you try this if you like carrot cake. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. Please look for my review update in the next 3 months.

My food was amazing last week, leading me to go back to the restaurant again this weekend. We took…read moreout for lunch on Saturday. It was not crowded at lunch, but we got there when it first opened. We looked at the food up front, and inquired about the things that looked good. We ordered the pernil, sweet plantains, goat, skirt steak, winter squash stuffed with chicken, shrimp ceviche, mashed potatoes, yellow rice & beans, and tres leches. That was a lot of food- and we had it for lunch and dinner. We have leftovers for tomorrow. Everything was delicious. I usually don't like mashed potatoes at restaurants, but I liked these. My husband and I reviewed which food was our favorite. He liked the skirt steak with the yellow rice and beans. I think I like the goat with the rice and beans. I usually don't Iike rice, but I am a fan of rice and beans. I didn't get chicken thighs and legs that looked good, because we ordered so much food. The person behind the counter was very friendly and hopeful. The restaurant was still clean.

But then I walked into this spot and was immediately hit with the holy trinity: merengue, típico, and bachata blasting like it was a Saturday in Santiago. First off, shoutout to Christine--our waitress--who was sweet, chill, and had us feeling like VIPs. Then there's Jasmine, aka the Mamajuana Queen . She knew my happiness window was limited, so she made it her mission to turn the vibe ALL the way up. And then... she hit us with the cured Mamajuana shots. Not just a drink--this was ancestral medicine. Now let's talk FOOD. Dominican sushi. Yes. Tres. Golpes. In. A. Sushi. Roll. I almost cried. Then came the skirt steak with tostones and baby, let me tell you... I've never looked at a plate with that much respect. My husband had pork chops with arroz y habichuelas, and my friend smashed the chimi tostones like it was her last meal on Earth. The place? Clean. Cute. Culture-rich. And if you're not ready to go home after dinner, guess what? There's a club upstairs. That's right--dinner downstairs, dance battle upstairs. Dominican efficiency at its finest. Final verdict: This spot is a whole experience. Not just food--this is a vibe, a reunion, a spiritual realignment. If you're Dominican and homesick, GO. If you're not Dominican but love flavor and joy, GO. If you don't like this place... honestly, I can't trust your taste buds.
