I apologize, but this restaurant does not offer authentic Peruvian chicken. If you're seeking that distinctive cumin flavor, you won't find it here! Chicken was not fully cooked!!I've visited many excellent places, and this one doesn't measure up. We paid $32, which is reasonable for a whole chicken and three small sides, but the portion sizes of the sides were surprisingly small. The yuca was decent, the plantains were good, but the stir-fried rice was overly salty. The yellow sauce was super watery. It's not a dipping sauce at all. Visiting from California for a wedding and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ethnic food here. (Realizing we're the snobs in this situation, ha!) This is legit Peruvian. My partner traveled through Peru and I've eaten at Peruvian places in SoCal so we were happy to see it. They're only open for takeout during the pandemic and they'll reopen for in person dining sometime in 2022 they say. We ordered the chaufa, mixto ceviche, seafood soup, roast chicken, and Peruvian lager. All were delicious and fairly priced. Take it from these CA foodies, we enjoyed their food and service. Saltado de Pollo is a great dish with peppers, onions, chicken and French fries in a great sauce. Make sure you try the green and yellow sauces! Comes with white rice, I think, but ask for yellow. Getting a whole or half chicken, yellow rice with salad is a good family pleaser for the picky eater (your kiddies). Maduros (sweet plantain) are good to take the edge off your sweet tooth. They have a bar, but I'm normally there for the food! It's in a shopping center that has Desserts by Dana 2-3 doors down. Go there after dinner for a $2 cupcake! read more

The seasoned and roasted chicken is my go to. It's always tender and juicy. Get a side of yellow rice and extra ají sauce and it's a perfect meal. I can also say that there are some key differences between The Chicken House and Peruchos. They both have relatively small dining rooms but TCH is way more cozy. And while both have traditional Peruvian dishes TCH has a far more extensive menu. In a nutshell something about Peruchos screams cafeteria while TCH quietly says dinner. read more

My 2 year old is the pickiest eater in the world and he LOVES the food from here so we eat here a couple times a month, most months. The chicken is good. The beans are the best. Peruvian food is one of my favorite types of cuisine to eat. I really enjoyed the Chicken House. Friendly, attentive, and patient service. Food seemed to be freshly made. They make their own mango and passion fruit juice. I tried the meduros, tostones with garlic salsa (chopped fresh garlic in some kind of oil, it goes along great with the tostones), a huge bowl of the chicken/rice/cilantro soup (was awesome), rotisserie chicken with saffron rice and salad. Loved the dressing and yellow pepper sauce on the chicken. I loved that everything was fresh and exactly how it should be. Can't wait to go back again. Prices were very reasonable, plenty of parking, just a great experience. They also offer takeout too. Just need a second stomach. Updating that I am shocked to find out on recent visit that unless you request no MSG it is added to salsa jalea and ceviche. I was told not to worry about the chicken or rice, they are MSG free. The food is always delicious! I highly recommend the ceviche (mixto, pescado, or camarones). The chicken with yellow rice is amazing. When I am feeling the desire to completely fill myself to the brim, I order the half chicken with yellow rice and French fries...why not?!?! For dessert, I cannot pass on the Tres Leches! I love Peruvian food. I was beyond excited when I happened upon this place that was close to a pool hall / bar that is two doors away. I decided to order two dishes that determines of a Peruvian place is good or not, Chaufa de Pollo & Lomo Saltado. The steak in the Lomo was dry and tough. I stopped eating it after 5 bites. I asked for the fries to be on the side since it will soak up all the the grave with the dish. They don't honor that request. Moved on to the chaufa and was slightly better, but the eggs in it were really brown and chicken wasn't great. Kinda ok. The aji amarillo was ok to mix with the chaufa. The verde sauce that came wit it was really oily and separating. Was too scared to try. I won't be coming here again. read more

Start out with the choros a la chaca...I couldn't even pronounce it correctly but saw the word mussels and my gf said let's get it. Comes to the table and you just see a crap ton of onions, corn and a tangy taste to the veggies cause it's topped with lime and wonder...we'll I guess this is the first time in my adulthood I'm eating an entire onion in one sitting. Onion breathe is inevitable but worth it. Tastes like veggies on a beach, I like the sound of that. As for the chicken, just try it, I can't even describe it cause it's just so juicy and tender that I don't even know how to say the actual flavors. It is DELICIOUS, the portions are huge, and the chicken is seasoned well. Also, the Red Wine is pretty good. The staff is very attentive and friendly. The rotisserie chicken thigh/leg was moist and the skin was perfectly seasoned. The breast were good, but a bit dry. All of the meat fell off the bone. The boyfriend always finds a reason to go back to Delaware for Chicken House. Needless to say, we have been here a couple times since our first experience and the meals have been consistent so far... except once. Well, my new favorite is the Lomo Saltado, $9.75. The first time I got it, I dreamt of it up until the second time I ordered it. Unfortunately, the second time was unbelievably, terribly, and disgustingly salty. Not sure if my taste buds that day were joking with me or what, but I didn't finish it. My boyfriend had a bite and didn't think it was that salty, so I'm not sure what happened. Third time I got it, I made sure to tell our waitress that I didn't want it too salty... and it was the perfect amount of saltiness. Think beef slices, french fries, onions, tomatoes, and rice -- oh my! Great portion, too. I would normally get the Pechuga a lo Pobre, but it can be too much for me. Boyfriend and his sister loooove that dish. Speaking of Pechuga a lo Pobre, I noticed that the sister's portion was a bit dry recently. The first few times we ordered it, it was incredibly moist and juicy. I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are definitely off-days here (or different cooks in the back), so don't let one bad experience keep you from going back... unless it's an extreme case, of course. I really really enjoy coming to The Chicken House! The service is friendly, and I always end up leaving with heaps of leftovers which is always a plus! I typically order rice dishes, which always turn out fabulous! One of my favorites is Arroz Verde con Camarones (green rice with shrimp). The dish is massive and delicious! I explained this to the server and my food came out in minutes! My favorite are the beans and tostones Their rice is really good! I traditionally chose the yellow rice, a favorite for me and friends , however, I ordered takeout a few days ago and forgot to specify yellow rice but it was great! More flavor than I anticipated for white rice to have, pleasantly surprised and may even start keeping white rice as the option for my dish. If you get anything fried try the yellow sauce. It's a bit spicy (says me who has extremely low tolerance for spicy things, other friends have said it's not spicy at all). The point is I love it regardless and would recommend!! read more

The chicken wings were really good!! Very tender on the inside, crispy on the outside. The sauces that came with it was good. The grilled chicken was so so good but the ones from Perucho (down the street) is MUCH better. The yellow rice wasn't too flavorful. Our server forgot to give us yellow and green sauces (didn't even know they were supposed to come w/ the chicken until I saw other people's orders). She also didn't bring us our salad (we had to ask for it). She also didn't bring us any plates when our appetizer came (were we supposed to eat off the table?). The prime beef with fries and sauteed onions and tomatoes in soy sauce was meh. Pretty bland. The mango juice was huge but tasted like it pretty much came out of a can of Kern. Overall, not the most exciting experience. The wings were very good, otherwise meeeeh. Probably won't be returning here.
