Its been a minute eh? Haven't gone out to dinner in a while but damned if I don't have a good one for ya. The Libation Room, a little speakeasy situated within summer house. Lets begin with the atmosphere because it was delightful. Its a small, intimate space where the spirit of a speakeasy shines through easily. The exposed ductwork, the classy yet eclectic decor, it is a delightful little space. Service was great. Fast, funny, and polite through the entire meal. We went for drinks and apps and I gotta say we will be coming back for dinner for sure me and my wife. How about the food and drink? Well, any of y'all who follow me know I'm not a huge drinker, but I did try the Oolong Hot Toddy and was extremely happy! Warm, the sochu and tea mix so well together, a nice garnish of candied ginger and lemon makes the presentation of this delightful little libation. (Ha, a pun!) Now, the food. Cheese board was great but, thats cheese anyone can assemble a cheese board. No, my credit goes to the crab dip and the calamari. A speakeasy done right. Nice elusive space with quintessential speakeasy vibes all around. This place is literally tucked away inside of The Summer House along Rehoboth Ave. There's metered parking (free off season), but it's also walkable if staying in the Main Street area. Make reservations as this is a small space. Very comfortable seating. Lots of decor that again fits the space. Great music playing as well. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and then escorted back into the speakeasy which has its own door. Once inside, we were greeted and introduced to the two servers who worked together all evening. They were very attentive and friendly. They made the visit enjoyable. The menu lights up... literally. Super fun to pick from the numerous drink and food options. For a speakeasy, you will be surprised at how many different options there are. The prices are beyond reasonable for the craft cocktails and amazing food. Started off with cocktails (first round) - Veruca Salt (highly recommend due to its spicy foam & deliciousness), Purple Butterfly (yum), The Ultimate Dirty Martini (very pungent), and The Smoked Cherry (nice presentation/event - also tasty). All of these were delicious and made well. Second round was The Night Shift and a Brown Butter Old Fashioned and again, both delightful. Dessert round was Creme Brûlée Espresso Martini (highly recommend - great presentation with a small mallet that cracks the brûlée on top & absolutely amazing - this is a sweet drink so loom as a dessert option), Espresso Martini (hazelnut flavor and good), and a Carijilo. All items from the bar were super tasty and well made. This is a craft drink place and the quality and attention to details are spot on for the speakeasy vibe. Not only are the drinks superb, but the food is also very well made and very affordable. We started with the cheese tower which is a great option for a group to enjoy. We also ordered the calamari which came with the most delicious horseradish dipping sauce, and lamb lollipops (4 per order). All of this was delicious. Then, tried the seafood bisque, French onion soup, Pumpkin/Crab/Mushroom Soup, and Seared Sea Scallops. The soups were super filling and all had a terrific flavor profile. The scallops were served on risotto and this was great. Seriously, the food is amazing. Not what you normally would find in a speakeasy. They even had dessert options (we had drinks instead). This was a lovely experience. Just overall fantastic and a great surprise hidden in a beach town. For sure make reservations. If visiting for the week, just go ahead and pick two nights to visit so you can try all of the things. Well done. Looking forward to another visit. read more

I had high hopes for this beautiful speakeasy in the town of Rehoboth Beach. It is a cute spot in the back of the Summerhouse Restaurant. I was excited to have had been able to get a reservation. When you walk in it's a pretty small speakeasy with tables on both sides of the room. It's dimly lit and has gold decorations weaved into the room. When you get your menus you assume they are regular ones...I was way wrong! the menus are like neon yellow when you open them which is a cool touch and for it being such a dark place it helps to see what the menu says. It has light built into the menu to give it that effect! Seating here is comfortable. They have a couch type seating and then on the other side it is comfortable chairs. The table I was sat at was a good size. A little on the smaller side. Our drinks were good. I had the FRENCH 75 Remy Martin Cognac, Champagne, Lemon and my friend I don't remember what he got. Both drinks were tasty and presented well! For food well with all my allergies it was Very slim pickings for me. I had ordered the potato skins but then a manager came over and told me it would be crossed contaminated so I opted not to take a risk. There were only 2 other choices I had that the waitress told me I could do and I opted not to eat anything. My friend had the SALMON TARTARE- lemon infused EVOO, chives, sea salt, & flying fish roe I think. He said it was very good and had alot of flavor. It comes in small bites. Service here was not the best, especially since it was not that crowded when we were there. We got the food before the drinks. Our waitress was nice and answered our questions we had. There was also a table next to us that it took them a while to clean off from the previous customers. So we had a dirty table next to us for most of our time there. Didn't bother me that much but was just observing. This will probably be a one and done place I go to. The Libation Room is a fun Speakeasy located behind the Summer House in Rehoboth Beach DE. Summer House is a popular casual restaurant so the contrast is huge when you find the cool Speakeasy space. I've never been to Rehoboth before. It's a fun resort beach community. I don't know the story behind the Libation Room, but whoever owns Summer House created a beautiful space that feels like it could be in any fabulous city in the world. They definitely knew what they were doing to create an elevated cocktail experience. The second you walk in the door after walking through the beachy casual Summer House, you feel you could be in London or New York or Chicago. The cocktail program is solid and the staff are well-trained. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the amazing wood burning smell. They have a signature recipe called the Smoked Cherry. You can see in the photos they do a great job infusing the old fashioned style cocktail with cherry wood. The recipe is Bourbon, Sage Simple Syrup, Maraschino liqueur and Cherry bitters. It was delicious and came with quite a show when they serve it table side. All of the cocktails we had were fantastic. I highly recommend finding the Libation Room if you're ever in Rehoboth. This is such a hidden gem in downtown Rehoboth! You can get in through the entrance of the main restaurant in the front, Summer House, but there's also a separate entrance in the back- it's so nondescript you'd easily miss it if you weren't looking for it, but definitely captures that speakeasy vibe. The ambiance inside is really nice- it feels dark and cozy, with lots of flickering candles and low light. The menus light up, which I've never seen anywhere else and thought was so cool- it's a great way to solve the problem of keeping it dark inside without people having to whip out their cell phones for light to read the menus. We enjoyed our cocktails but thought the food was more of a standout. I started with the lobster and corn empanadas- it came with two empanadas that were really tasty and came with a great spicy cream sauce. The table next to us got the Brie fondue and it looked incredible! For my main course, I had the pumpkin crab bisque and the honeycrisp spinach salad. The soup was excellent, it had a good amount of crab and the flavors went really nicely together. The salad was one of my favorites I've had in a long time- I hate when a goat cheese salad only has one small piece of goat cheese, this came with a whole centerpiece of goat cheese wrapped in puff pastry! It was the perfect balance of salty, sweet, creamy, crunchy, and acidic. My husband got the Beef wellington which was also excellent. We had to try the Jack Tarr potatoes, which come as a side to many of the seafood dishes, and those were absolutely delicious- they were creamy and cheesy and so decadent. This is a speakeasy which was thrilling to get a table at but I felt like there was not much more to offer than a different menu and a dark room with a few tables. Our drinks were good but mine was very very sweet. It was my boyfriend and i's anniversary so it was a nice place to end the night at. After reading some of the poor reviews from this place I wasn't expecting much. They commented that the drinks and food were great, but something minuscule was an issue. I can't attest to the food because my partner and I came in for drinks. The drinks were phenomenal. And the service was fantastic. The ambiance was definitely something I look for in a speakeasy. Something fairly quiet, where you can actually hear the person across from you and the soft music being played. You can hear other people talking but, at least when we were there, no one was yelling across the bar. I could hear our conversations. They also accommodated us not having a reservation which was greatly appreciated. The only reason for the 4 stars was that I didn't have the food. Upon looking around at other table the food looked amazing. All if the drinks were very well balanced. Will definitely be back. read more

You must make a reservation and you can do that through opentable, which makes it easy. true to its name, the libation room has some of the best original drinks I've ever had. Using fresh seasonal ingredients has a wonderful impact on the drinks. On the menu right now is a Virginia smoked peach martini, which includes peach bitters and vodka; it's dangerously delicious. The creme brule espresso is also phenomenal. Matt Gabel seems to be the one who's coming up with these - all I can say is keep on keepin' on!! read more

I've been here twice. Both times were a great experience. Wonderful ambiance, food/drinks were good, and the servers were attentive.

The restaurant was really cute, it was kind of dark (kinda like cheesecake factory) but the menu's had lights in them. (Was told to go next time while the sun is setting. Went on Saturday at 5:30. They open at 5 o'clock, was nerves with the amount of people who were seated but then others were coming in around 5:50. Our waiter name was JORDAN!!! He was the best!!! Asked him to bring my surprise idea for my date to light and he did ! Thank you again Jordan. We both order regular drinks such as; a lemon drop and apple whiskey sour. I ordered the lamb chop 8/10 and crab dip 7/10 (more on the rich cheese side but still good) and then a side of their potatoes 10/10. My date had the salmon with asparagus and a side salad 9/10 (it was bussin). Overall The libation room gets a 8/10!!! We had a good experience. read more

Fun atmosphere; food was good. But gotta knock the service, best described as not particularly attentive. Once an order was placed, the food/drink came to the table promptly. But wait staff didn't much care about you after the order was placed - no checking in if orders were correctly delivered; no asking if anything else was needed or wanted. And as other reviews have advised, it is so obvious the restaurant wants you to leave after the (in our case) 90 minutes had expired. We weren't the cause for our time at the table; our time at the table was largely due to the waiters never coming back to take our entree order (it was about 20-25 minutes between ordering starters and entrees). At precisely 90 minutes after we were seated, a waiter brought us our check - just dropped it at the table; didn't ask if we were interested in something else. It really makes you feel unwelcome. So great choice of restaurant if you like prompt turns, but I would not recommend the restaurant for any kind of celebration, birthday, anniversary, etc. where the fun of dining is the complete (and welcomed) experience. read more

I debated whether to post this review because I hesitate being negative. That being said, I think this is more a preventative caution for others. Overall, the food was very good, the cocktails were exceptional, the waitstaff was very attentive and pleasant, and the ambiance was amusing and fun. So far so good ... After cocktails, apps and a great dinner we were anticipating dessert, coffee and maybe an after-dinner drink when we were told that we had just 10 mins. to vacate our table. Now, this was after we'd been bantering with the waitress that we were going to be staying all night to which we were advised "not a problem at all" ... no hint at a timeline at all. I wouldn't have a problem if we were told beforehand that we had only a finite amount of time, but to have this dropped on you at the last minute was more than a little bit disappointing and unfortunate. Certainly a regrettable way to conduct business. Will sadly debate going back ... read more
