The Hen pecked and pulled out a Good Egg. Late summer, necessary beach weekend, Mom and I headed down 95 to favorite- Rehoboth. After many a weekend spent and many a restaurant tried we welcomed new eats at The Blue Hen. This menu is intriguing- small, tight but inventive- we were so excited to eat here! Was wonderful in having a table ready when we arrived for at-will, no reserve seating at about 7pm. Quiet corner. Promptly greeted by our server. She was gracious, so nice, and helpful our whole dining time. We ordered readily, in Mom's overwhelming hunger, lolol. Ordered the Lobster Toast and the Yellow Tomato Gazpacho, as starters. Amazingly accommodating on our order of this gorgeous gazpacho. We were given 2 bowls to split this tomato beauty. A few spoons of smooth & sweet, acidic, flavorful, gripping. Could have ordered more! The Lobster Toast- Accompanied by a concoction of radish, sesame, bitter-sweet....stunning bites in this salad. Unfamiliar but pronounced in the combination. Well done. The lobster- Absent. Wished for an open faced variety. Or at least a dish that advocates for lobster. Charge more. Bigger brioche. Pronounce those beautiful lobster bites in presentation. The lobster as served, was not the star. Ok, a moment for cocktails though- Whoa. Killer kill. The Church Girl Martini. Blessed be in evil, haha This Girl was too tasty in being that strong. So good in flavor, unbeknownst combos. A definite Watch Yourself and watch out for!! Entrees.....well when ordering was told the Sea Bream was out- disappointed on that. The entree menu is small, so should keep available. And when we entered the restaurant it was busier after we sat....so why out of a primary fish already?? So decided ahead- Mom had the Burger and I had the Crab Cake Sandwich. The burger- smashed, but still big patties. A perfect medium. Good overall. The bacon jam was an ask on the side. The bacons were really spicy lardons and were delicious. My crab cake sandwich. Hmmm. You are a sandwich. For the pricing, it's not there. Ate the Lumps, but the rest of the sandwich should I say was in the Dumps? Nothing to be said of standout. Would recommend putting this crab cake as a stand alone entree with accompaniment. Forget the bun. Overall food gets a 3.75. Drinks, environment and service a 4. The Blue Hen is not Spent. But also is not the Top Chicken.

Definitely a decent option when you're in rehobeth! There was only a 10 min wait on a Saturday night which isn't bad given how busy other places can get. The oysters were very fresh and the salmon main with bokchoy is delicious. The calamari is interesting with bits of salami. Fish dip is a bit bland but tastes clean and healthy lol. Server seemed annoyed throughout the whole night but maybe it was an off day for her.

Great place! Friendly service and excellent bar. We started with happy hour which is daily from 4-5. The deals on food and drink are really good. We started with drinks and apps and progressed to the full menu for entrees. My salmon crudo app was fresh and delicious and the accompanying sauce was lovely. The sea bream was amazing. The carrots and fennel were great as sides. I'm normally concerned when fish comes out with skin but this skin was actually crispy! So good. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his oysters and steak tartare. At present the happy hour price on 1/2 dozen oysters is $12, which is a steal.

oysters and frosé for happy hour

I came here for happy hour and had an excellent experience. The service was friendly and attentive. It wasn't terribly loud or anything - a great vibe for chilling. The food was so tasty. I got a bit too much to drink, so I only clearly remember the oysters, but my friends raved about the other food we ordered. For example, we ordered a side of biscuits and they came with a surprisingly delicious guava jam. They have a great happy hour deal on a half-dozen oysters so we had tons of those. The star of the show, though, is their frosé. I think it's normally $12 or $13, but it was $8 for happy hour. It's strong and smooth and refreshing and not too sweet. I downed 2.5 of these bad boys on an empty stomach and some oysters. If I come back to Rehoboth Beach, I would absolutely be back!

The blue hen was a very nicely decorated restaurant with a good presentation of ambience. Lots of windows let in light to remind you that you were in a touristy seaside town. The outdoor warmers on the front entry patio danced with flickering flames adding to the ambiance even in the dusk the wait staff took a team approach which was good The calamari was good. And topped with a sweet aoli and carrots and peppers. The fried chicken platter was good A bit pricey ($29).but you have got to pay for that decor. The chicken wand tender and fried well. It was season on the outside but could have used a little marination to bring out the internal flavor. The collard greens were real good. Tasted like somebody's grandmother was in the kitxhn. Good flavor of the vegetable itself without any sugar or vinegar. The Mac and cheese was good but could have benefited from the cheddar cheese in the mix. Good experience but would explore others in the future. Been there done that.

We had a wonderful date night at the blue hen! The server was awesome, we loved the vibe of the place and the food was amazing! We started with the seafood platter and a salad to share. for dinner I got the scallops and my partner got one of the pasta dishes, I forgot the name but it had crab in it. It was all so very fresh and we would absolutely come back again!

    Cocktail on the patio

My wife and I had a lovely dinner meal on the outside patio while spending a few days at the beach. Information online was confusing as to their Happy Hour hours, so we missed out on that, but our cocktails and the few dishes we shared were all quite tasty. We shared a zucchini bloom appetizer special, a summer salad and their lobster toast. The zucchini blooms were stuffed with feta cheese, lightly breaded and fries until golden brown. They were served with a spicy remoulade sauce that complimented the creamy feta just right. Honestly, the summer salad was a bit too bitter for my taste, but my wife enjoyed it. The greens were mesclun topped with watermelon, cucumbers, feta and a vinaigrette dressing. The lobster toast was the most intriguing (and tasty) dish...think upscale grilled cheese. The grilled bread contained a cream cheese mixture of lobster, scallions and celery topped with spiralized cucumber and a hot pepper jelly. It was such an unusual flavor combination, but it worked! Would definitely like to return during proper HH times and also sample a larger portion of their menu.

The food and drinks here were great. The classic julep and the aperol spritz were refreshing and well made. The oysters were also fresh and delicious. The spaghetti wasn't heavy and had good flavors. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating available. The service was good and I had a nice experience overall.

Good date spot in rehoboth but we had a mediocre experience. We were sat next to a large table with 3 kids who were very noisy... the indoor seating doesn't have noise control. The voices reverberate inside the dinning area. The food was good but nothing special. Octopus was chewy and the avocado didn't complement well. Scallops were good but nothing unique. There were 5 scallops and 3 potatoes that are cut in the shape of scallops. Service was attentive and quick. We didn't make a reservation and was still able to be seated without a wait on a Saturday night in the summer!

Phenomenal! This restaurant has become better than Henelopen and Salt Air! Impeccable service, unbeatable ambience. All day happy hour Tuesday and Wednesday. And the braised pork ravioli was among one of the best things I ever put in my mouth... one of them

Food was fantastic! And I like that they changed the menu. The Parking was a pain, as expected. The service was ok, I kinda expected a little more from our server. Maybe she was having a bad days who knows. But the food definitely made up for that lol.

Sour tomato vinegar disaster. 2) Meatballs were cold. 3) Salad was an embarrassment. Just lettuce. 4) Pepperoni pizza was brutally overcooked. Sent back. I ended up sharing my wife's margherita pizza, which was no big shakes. 120 dollars later (even after they took off my pizza) we left hungry. Seriously...nothing was good. Plus...I'm not sure what was going on inside but it was brutally hot. All in all, I won't be back for a while. A long while.

My friend asked for a bigger table and they weee nice enough to give it to us despite being busy on a Saturday night. My friend also was concerned about the lamb being too gamey but wanted to give it a try. He was a big fan. I got to try a piece of his and it was good too. I went with the Denver steak- I never had this portion of meat before and I see why it is advertised as a separate item now. It is likely this was randomly packaged before or the cattlers kept it for themselves and just sold the masses everything else. Japan has been known to sell this meat portion decades? Ago known as 'zabuton' apparently. It isn't really a new "invention" per se, but apparently a meat association helped with the marketing and accessibility of this meat to make it what it is today. It appears many places do not offer this but a handful of places do offer this. The doors are nice and the signs don't strike me as stand out but they are nice easy to read aigns. The decor inside creates a beautiful ambiance of the classy restaurant that represents the food they served. The asparagus, carrots, Kennett mushrooms, were cooked well. The lamb was tender and juicy. My Denver was tender, juicy, and flavorful in a way that you don't need to add sauce and it might even be a faux pas to do so. I suggest medium or medium rare. I got mine medium well but for this kind of meat. I think medium rare is probably best. The key lime is 3 layers which is a cake and then key lime layer times 3 layers. My friend said it was a bit dry but we both thought it was good and all desserts are made in-house. My friend thinks a lot of butter is used in a lot of places to make the food taste truly good and I believe that. I don't really think about these things and just try to eat and appreciate what is in front of me, but it certainly is good to be mindful of these kind of ingredients used as well. The alcohol was fine. My friend's drink was not too sweet and my espresso cocktail had a good balance of flavor and booze. I asked for a shrimp add on and maybe the waitress didn't hear me but I didn't get that. However I also wasn't charged for it and by the meal's end when I realized this, I did not want this add-on. The bathroom apparently could've used some cleaning.
