Stopped in after our tour of the Historic Odessa homes and loved the vibe here. There were several different rooms and it felt cozy. The drink menu was larger than expected with lots of unique beers on tap and the food menu was huge. We opted for the crab flatbread and it was so so good. We had a lovely meal at Cantwell's Tavern while driving through DE. We wanted to eat somewhere quintessential and unique to the area. This restaurant delivered. We were excited to eat in a historic venue. We found the wallpaper takes away from the history and beauty of the house unfortunately. It's beige-brown, modern, indecipherable and out of place. However, the food was very good. We ordered the salmon & rice with honey and peach pico. Everyone loved it! We also had their burgers, tried their oysters and their Mac and cheese. The burger was a solid and yummy burger. The Mac and cheese from the kids menus was a big plate that two small children probably could have shared. We were there on Tuesdays when they have the $1.25 oysters and they were fine, but shucked horribly. Shells everywhere, we were all taking them out of our moths. The oysters- or at-least some of them were macerated and left on the shell. It felt every bit $1.25. Our server was pleasant and upbeat. We enjoy any restaurant that brings complimentary bread to the table as a family with hungry little ones. We liked our visit and would return. read more

Mother's Day brunch. The tight, old colonial furniture, 3 story, Federal Style architecture interior is compartmentalized. It's mid 1800s in every way. The creeks and cracks of the wooden floors. The very muted and muddy colors harken its adherence to tradition. The food too is served with a very handmade style and taste. The Snack Board has a bit of everything. Beware, they only give you 2 Deviled eggs on the platter. I also had the Farmhouse Burger (hold the Sunnyside egg), nice coleslaw. Their menu is complimentary with color and hearth. Just the break we needed on a Sunday drive from Virginia Beach back to Philadelphia. The cinnamon roll was the size of a dinner plate and delicious. We had high hopes, a long drive getting there etc. put it this way, the "prime" flatiron steak came out cubed and wasn't comparable to steaks nearby at Prime 225, Shafers or the Chesapeake house. No worries , that wasn't my plate. I ordered the picahna, which I'm quite fond of, having had Picahna for the last two weeks. Once in D.C. and once at home. I should mention that I purchase Picahna about every other week when I drive north from D.C. and pass through rosedale. This Picahna was not what I would consider a Picahna steak. Perhaps a Picahna roast stripped of all fat and the edge of it at that l, which contains a lot of gristle. For the Ashby's , I did not mention this to our server whom was polite. I don't want anything taken off the check, ever. What I would like to see is some standards so the chef understands when to put the last cut towards something else instead of the plated course. If you're going to change the menu and add Picahna...maybe try some at a Brazilian steakhouse first. Also who decided to cube the flat iron steak? Was that a handful of end cuts also?? Great farm to table restaurant in historic Odessa in a building est. 1822 . I loved this 19th century tavern ! Perfect med Jammin' burger with arugula, tomato jam, and fresh burrata cheese with balsamic and basil. Fresh buffalo mozzarella wrapped around a filling of soft curd deliciousness. Replaced those fries with a beautiful side salad with homemade blue cheese. Dining companion had plant based portobello burger with blue cheese/arugula and side Caesar salad... delish. In the area and decided to come for dinner. For an appetizer we ordered the nachos with chicken. It came out so hot and piled high with chicken and melted cheese! For dinner i had the Salmon ciabatta sandwich, it tasted fresh and the crispy ciabatta roll just made it even better. We also ordered the Shrimp enchiladas and loved them. Dining at this establishment is almost like walking back into Colonial times. It is very reminiscent of the Old Town in Williamsburg, VA. The building itself is 200 years old. However, the menu offered is far from that period. They featured a fairly wide variety of main entrees, ranging from traditional comfort food, to more upscale delights. All entrees were flavorfully prepared, and portions were large as well. Staff was friendly and helpful. However, pricing seemed to be on the high side when compared to other similar establishment in the MOT area. One other side note, this place tends to change out its menu after a certain period. We have found some of the new offerings quite tasty. So if you haven't visited for awhile, you may find some new dishes that was not present from your previous visit. read more

If you're of the season variety (aka have melanin), this place is not for you. This restaurant is easy to pass as the building is not your typical restaurant. Street parking is available but i didn't see a parking lot. Service is okay. We requested a table for two and were taken upstairs...the only people upstairs seated next to the waitresses on break. -_- There were open tables downstairs. We first knew this place probably want for us when we walked in and were met with stares from other patrons before the hostess (which ended up being our waitress) asked " how can I help you?" Ma'am, this is a restaurant, how do you think you can help us? She ended being nice and cheerful, though. Food: UNDERWHELMING at best. The oyster Rockefeller were terrible- super bland and not cooked. Being from New Orleans, these were not true oyster Rockefeller. My friend said the soup was decent as was the crab cake. Surprisingly, the bread itself served on isn't warm. Overall, this place immediately gave me Get Out vibes and I'm convinced they hold heterogeneous meetings at midnight lol. Met a good friend for lunch at Cantwell's Tavern. It was my first time. At 11:30am on cold Saturday, there were a few people sitting in the cozy Victorian style rooms. I wish the fireplace worked in our space. It would have added to the charm. The food was good. I tried their berry salad with pomegranate vinaigrette and added chicken for protein. One word. YUMMY! I had the Brie Foam (whipped Brie) put on the side. I am not a fan of Brie. By 12:30pm, the place was nearly full. So, reservations are recommended. Living in the area for a few years and finally had the chance to stop by Cantwell's Tavern. Wow what a charm of a place in a town sandwiched in between all the population growth in the area. Skip the large chains and make a reservation to Cantwell's A fantastic mixture of pub sandwiches and bites mixed in with pizza but then and some fantastic well prepared entrees, top with a full bar and wine and beer list and you have a winner. I started with some clams in a wine sauce followed scallop. So good I could eat them every day. The true delight was a side of roasted Brussels sprouts. OMG! Need that recipe. My wife had the shrimp scampi with several nice piece of large shrimp over homemade pasta. Topped off with a chocolate bomb. Just wow! This place is good for everyone. This lovely historic building made the most beautiful setting for dinner. We were able to walk there from our B&B. The service was very thoughtful and Hayden took extremely good care of us. They have house made pretzel nuggets with two dipping sauces - cheese and Dijon mustard. It was a great appetizer. For our entrees, it was $5 off burger night and they had a nice selection of them. We choose the Big Mac - I got a side salad with mine and my husband got French fries. Very generous sized burgers. Hayden recommended the perfect dessert - the molten lava cake with ice cream! We dined at Cantwell Tavern last night. My husband ordered the filet medium rare. It was so tough he couldn't cut it with a steak knife. They brought him another steak. It was the same. For 54.00 l'm hoping that you buy better quality meat . Besides him and I sharing oysters (he ate.3). he left not eating anything. Very bad experience. Our server was nice. When the check came we were also charged for 2 desserts we didn't order or receive. They took them off but I'm glad I noticed the extra charge . I was really hoping to have enjoyed our dinner. What an awesome location and a beautiful town. It was perfect for a Sunday brunch on Christmas Eve and the decorations made it extra special. We had to get a ginormous cinnamon roll to share. It was a must and I'm glad we did. I have a little bit saved for later. I'll be back to try out drinks at the bar and grab lunch or dinner. The brunch menu was nice but I will say it needed a little something. All three of us felt it could use a little seasoning. My omelet had all the right ingredients but zero on seasoning on flavor. A few touches could make brunch here excellent. I'd love to see some local preserves and fresh butter rather than packets of butter and pre-packaged jelly. My friends both had the eggs benedict but the Canadian bacon was so thick it overpowered the taste. Less can be more. Apricot margarita was tasty. We had treasured elders with us, so we appreciated the accessible entrance and vintage elevator to get to our second floor table. Overall, I'll neither rush back nor avoid this restaurant. At this price point, I prefer to be wowed by the food, but this is good for larger parties (online reservations for up to 8) and events, I'd say.
