Stylish gastropub in the main strip in Newark with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating + a solid menu of options I came here for lunch with my fiance and I got a salad and she got tacos. She said that her tacos were a little dry (and I tried her chips which were very flavorless), but my salad was fantastic. I ordered it with a serving of shrimp, and the shrimp was very salty. Horrible (brunch) menu and service. Absolutely nothing remotely normal on the menu: no option to get eggs and toast and meat, just pork bellie pig and other weird choices. No pancakes, (unsfuffed) French toast, bagels with lox. Chairs are old and extremely uncomfortable. Place is loud even if a few people are there. It's literally hell. Horrible service. Waiter brought me 2/3 of a cup of warm coffee and asked if I wanted milk or cream and sugar instead of bringing them over. Had to wait five minutes for my eerily specific request for a certain number of creams and Splenda. No spoon or other way to mix the cream and sugar. I couldn't find a single thing on the menu that seemed even remotely close to palatable, so I ordered an English muffin, thinking I'd be safe. Wrong. It was doughy and soaked with butter. Should I have told them to hold the butter because I was a jelly guy? Who knows. I've never felt more like leaving a zero dollar tip than I did at Greenhouse Gastropub. Skip it. read more

The aesthetic of this place is definitely fresh, lively, and clean. Being labeled as a Gastro pub already told me that the prices are going to be higher than normal. Overall, the food was OK for the price but not anything amazing. The happy hour specials are very limited and get more expensive as happy hour goes on. For example, drinks are three dollars off at the start of happy hour and by the last hour only one dollar off. Also, beware when ordering espresso martinis. I was asked if I wanted it made with Bailey's and I said yes, without knowing it was a two dollar up charge. $18 for a martini on the UD campus is wild! Overall oka but not a place I would dine at all the time. read more

The cobb salad was beautiful and large. My Dad ordered it, and didn't realize that it has a big spicy kick. It's chipotle ranch dressing but beware! I got a burger which won an award, and was delicious. It had fontina, onions and a delicious sauce on the side. The burger patties were cooked well, with lots of flavor. The fries were a little overcooked in my opinion and salty but still pretty good. The drinks were standard. The pomegranate cosmo was very sweet. The bar seating was nice with a big tv showing the Phillies. The restaurant has a lot of plants which gives a nice vibe. read more

I wish I could remember all the names of the drinks and food I got here because everything was delicious! Unfortunately, I was too distracted by how good it was. The interior is cool and has moss type things on the ceiling to go with the theme. There appeared to be plenty of tables...we sat in the back. My chicken sandwich (name?) was very good. Whatever garlic aioli was on it was amazing. They should bottle and sell it. The waiter said they make their fries in house and they go through a three-day process. The cocktail I got (again, the name escapes me) had bourbon but they had added smoke to it. One of the best drinks I've ever had! Our waiter, a college student, was so friendly and engaging. He did a great job of checking on us. We really enjoyed it and were close to going back for a second night. read more

What a shame... A terrible bartender can ruin a night and dissuade customers from returning. This is exactly what happen at the Greenhouse - which we had enjoyed in the past and added to our rotation -on the night of July 2. Upon arriving around 8, we sat at the bar. Throughout the night, the bartender on duty was absent and not attentive. So much so, we had to ask the trainee - who was awesome - for a second round. Around 9 we asked for our check. Shortly thereafter, the bartend left the bar unattended and began talking to a friend at a table. For nearly 20 minutes he stood at the table, back to the bar and chatted. Never once turned around to check on the bar patrons. When I dared to walk over and ask for our check a second time, the bartender became rude and hostile - literally throwing our check down and saying "Just don't tip me, that would be amazing." Whatever that means. The young manager I spoke to about this situation, said this bartender was one their best. Really? Leaving a bar with 8 to 10 patrons unattended qualifies as best behavior? That in itself is troublesome on many levels, especially since we have had outstanding service from other bartender there - notably Jimmy and Frank who were excellent. Main Street has lots of great bars and great bartenders. Why risk getting this one and having your night ruined. After this experience, we have no intention of going back, and that's a shame. read more

Brought my beautiful wife to brunch before a hockey game on a lovely Saturday morning, and so glad we did. The service was exceptional, and we were seated promptly and offered the option of dining outside. We started with the beignets, and they were fabulous. Really perfect. The Bloody Mary was layered and had good flavor, and the draft beer list was solid, with some unique and cool offerings. There were many great options on the menu, and both of us loved what we had. Next time we have the chance to brunch near UD, we will be back! Great spot! read more

We did takeout. Food was good, nothing special. Enjoyed it, but not wow'd. Next time would love to dine in. Its bright and calming with all the greenery. But we had been traveling all day, so just got our food to go. Estimate for how long before pickup was right on. Expensive for portion sizes IMHO. $95 for 3 sandwiches and 2 apps. One was a burger. The Greenhouse is in an old historic building next to the new Hyatt with a farmhouse feel. The menu is eclectic and lots of options for casual food with innovative sauces and pairings. We were in the area for the day and was happy to come across The Greenhouse on Yelp. The menu looked tasty, and I, additionally, appreciated the aesthetic. We arrived to no wait- thank goodness. We came equipt with 3 small children. The service was FAST, which is exactly what we needed. The adults started with a variety of cocktails. I splurged for the pineapple jalapeño lemonade which was SUPERB! As for food, we skipped the appetizers and went right for entrees. The kids got the chicken fingers and grilled cheese. RK loved her grilled cheese and while AHK was not fond her chicken fingers (neither was I- verrrry peppery), she sure did love the french fries. I opted for the tavern burger which was piled with cheddar cheese, fried onions, and bacon jam. WHAT COULD BE BAD?! I devoured that sandwich. Jagger got the cobb which came with jammiest, perfect soft boiled eggs and was topped with a delicious warm, bacon dressing. The others got burgers and pulled pork sandwiches and everyone seemed pleased with their choices. The end to our meal got a little bit messy...one of the littles had an explosive accident. I will say, this is not the most kid friendly establishment, but luckily there was a bench in the bathroom, which was enough, to help us clean up a fudgey mess.....if you catch my drift. All in all, we really enjoy our visit at the Greenhouse! If we lived in DE, I would happily return to try the dinner menu and more cocktails. ...I regret not trying the espresso martini, topped with a toasted marshmallow...it looked out of this world! Tried Greenhouse Gastropub for the first time and loved it! We ate upstairs, overlooking Main Street. It was clean and spacious enough that you didn't feel on top of another table. Our waiter, Kensho was super friendly and attentive. We started with the picnic plate and it was amazing! It had artisan cheeses, bratwurst, dried cherries, spicy honey, raspberry jam, sweet & spicy pickles, bacon jam, mustard, and focaccia. Everything was so delicious. We housed it. Also, all of the meals were so good too. Even the asparagus that came with the steak frites was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Really enjoyed this visit and will definitely be back. On the menu they offer burgers, steaks, sandwiches and seafood options to list a few. There is something for everyone to enjoy. They also have a fun bar menu with specialty drinks to support the season. We went for lunch the first time and had the chicken sandwich and Ruben. We voted my Ruben top pick that day. Once again my son took us to an amazing restaurant. This one was a recommendation from his friends. They may continue to make recommendations! This place was fabulous! Because it was Saturday and e didn't have reservations, we went for an early supper arriving around 5:00. We were seated right away. Our server Alex was engaging, polite and not at all shy about making recommendations. I think I was most impressed with the question, "Are there any food issues I should know about?" I have never been asked that before, but I think it's a great question. We started with the nachos which were good. I had the scallops that Alex recommended. They were perfect. I ate every scrap of my dinner. My son had the wild boar bolognese. It's was quite yummy. The pasta is handmade on site, so was quite delicious. My husband had the cheesesteak and fries. I'm guessing he liked it because he hardly said anything during dinner. The tables are spaced nicely so it's not crowded. I loved this restaurant and will definitely return. read more

So this place has only been open for 2 months. Stopped in for late lunch on Thursday afternoon. We were the only patrons. Staff very friendly and polite. The atmosphere and decor is very nice and more upscale than many of the restaurants on Main Street. There are many plants scattered throughout the restaurant a nice touch. Also very clean. The restroom is very clean and pretty. I had the Reuben Sandwich and enjoyed it very much. Really good French fries. The pastrami was tender and had a good flavor. My companion had the wild caught shrimp tacos and gave them a big thumbs up. The only thing that wasn't good was the coke --flat and syrupy. Will definitely try again for dinner! read more

Disappointing night out with friends. Four-top, started with a drink order. Next waiter visit ordered apps. Apps came before drinks, so almost a half hour to get a bar order. We were pressed to order entrees before we had gotten anything from the restaurant. The problem is that food just wasn't good, or memorable in any way. My friend had the return the roast beef sandwich because he couldn't even chew any of it due to bones and gristle. My wife's flatbread was tiny, thin, and bland. Several dishes came with some kind of mystery white sauce filled with cider vinegar. I think the slow bar was nothing big but they need to serve better food. This is a great upscale version of a burger. Lots of great choices and nice crispy fries.

Overall, the food was flat out great. Great addition to Main Street. Got the steak frites which was cooked just how I wanted and the truffle fries were so good. The crab cake sandwich was also a hit, with the cocktail- wasabi sauce adding bitterness that complimented the sandwich great. Although it was busy on the Saturday night we went, service was still superb. Has a lovely green environment with plants and great tan colors that definitely lives up to its name. I however wanted a different side. They are not listed on the menu which I found odd. I asked the waiter and landed on the broccoli. All was good until I got the check. The broccoli was a $6.00 up charge. The waitress did not notify me that changing my side from fries was an up charge. Nor was it stated on the menu. The gluten free bun I ordered was a $3.00 up charge. Which also was not divulged by the waitress or listed on the menu. $6.00 for broccoli is a lot and I didn't even get that much. Reference the picture. I could see if I'd gotten crab fries instead of regular fries but BROCCOLI for $6.00?that just doesn't seem right. Now, I'm used to gluten free up charge but to not list it on the menu then tack it onto the bill at the end is crazy to me. To not list the sides and then have a $6.00 to substitute a side without stating it on the menu is also crazy. read more

I visited greenhouse for the first time for lunch. Frank provided great service! The food and drinks were also great. My only note of improvement would be for the plantain served with the jerk shrimp tacos, they were underdone.
