Stopped in for dinner after traveling into town. The location definitely gives off the sports bar vibe. Drinks were ok and our server, who was the bartender, was good. She was attentive and offered suggestions for the food. I opted for the ribs which were ok but wish I had tried the wings. The ribs had ok flavor but I had lots of small bone pieces and a piece of foil from being wrapped in my food. There is live music although we left before it started. The location appears to be popular for locals as well as people staying in hotels next to the location. Although this visit was average, I will stop by again and try the wings on another visit. read more

Had a quick bite here during a stay at the hotel next to it. Hotel, meh. Home Base, BOOM! We went in on a Friday afternoon and it was pretty empty. At a busier time, this would be a groovy spot to watch a game and have a beer. One thing that got my interest piqued was the sign that said, "Voted best wings in Delaware". I've not had a chance to try all the wings in Delaware but the Diablo wings were bangin! Draft beer was ice cold and refreshing. Service was spot on friendly and attentive. Drinks were good. My food was not the greatest. I ordered the chipotle cheesesteak, came with fries. Fries were overcooked, I appreciated that the steak was not dry, sauce was good, but the hunk of gristle I got in a bite, upset me, especially since I couldn't nibble on the overcooked fries. read more

The ambiance at Home Base was nice; however, our experience this evening, 6/20/26, was not good. There were three of us: me (a black middle-aged female), my daughter, and our white female friend. The first waitress appeared distracted or perhaps she may not have been in the best mood. When we received the loaded nachos, they were cold. The waitress asked, "how are the nachos?", we were honest and she suggested that she would take them "to put them back in the oven". ?, but ok. She brought them back and they were a little warmer. The first waitress never came back to our table, but she was still there. After we received our food, another waitress (short lady, dark hair, black pants and tank top) came over to ask if we were ok. She did not offer an explanation for her taking over our service. Her attitude was also off putting. When we were ready to leave, I asked for the check-she brought it over, then I asked for to go boxes. She returned with the boxes. She quickly started clearing our table, took the bill to pay, brought it back and removed the remaining items from the table. I'm not sure if this business is not welcoming of black customers even in 2026, but the attitudes of the two waitresses that served our table spoke volumes. They both could use more customer service training. They both were quite rude and, in my opinion, could be hurting this business. Be kind to ALL guests, especially when they are spending money. I do not recommend Home Base - especially if the color of your skin is black. read more

Let me start by saying this place has much improved from 1.5 years ago when I first walked into Home Base. At that time I would have given it barely 3 stars. It was an ok place for drinks and grilled cheese sandwiches. It had other food but I didn't think it was that great. Now fast forward to today, what a difference. The food has improved dramatically. Where else can you get a French Onion soup SANDWICH? Yummy. The chef isn't afraid to express his ideas with some unique menu items. It's more than a sports bar. I asked if they would make me a grilled cheesesteak ( I used my magic words, please and thank you). They said Yes to the Grilled Cheesesteak!! It was a marriage made in Heaven!! Toasted sourdough bread had the correct amount of thickness and toasting. Provolone cheese added a good amount of hardiness. Good amount of tender meat. The onions and peppers added great flavor. It came with chips. It was mid afternoon. There were a couple people at the bar. The bartender was pleasant and attentive. I'm all about supporting small, local businesses, but this was just not it. For starters, you have nut allergies, this isn't the place for you. They fry in peanut oil. Starting from our drinks. We ordered the mimosa carafe. It came out with BROWN juice. I thought maybe it was apple cider for a fall mimosa. We confirmed it was orange juice and he said yes. It tasted rotten. Clearly it was old and expired. When we asked for a different juice, he said I'll see what I can find. He came back with what looks like Tropicana high pulp, and was actually orange! I'm not sure if this man was the owner, but his demeanor was off putting to us as well as the table next to us. Also, be prepared that this is twist off cap champagne. We ordered the boneless Buffalo wings. Turns out, it's actually chicken nuggets with Buffalo sauce. We ordered grilled cheese for my son. See picture for details. This should not have even come out of the kitchen like that. The cheese was completely burnt. The picture was only half of it too. I saw the Korean chicken sandwich in the photos and it looked delicious, so I ordered it. There was minimal breading and no "Korean" flavor. Coleslaw was not good either. Great, friendly local hangout with nicer-than-average sports bar menu. My husband and I were in the area for a couple of days to visit local places of interest. On evening one, we were in the mood to relax over some pub grub and cold beers so I Googled "sports bars" and Home Base came up. We had a good time - the staff made us feel completely at home and the other patrons at the bar were fun to talk with. (Given that the All Star game was on many of the TVs, trash-talking just seemed natural.) On night two, we had figured out that Home Base was in walking distance of our hotel, so we returned. // On night one, I had a great hamburger and fries so tasty that this French-fry avoider couldn't stop eating them. On night two I had an order (3) of grilled-shrimp tacos. They were definitely not the kind of food they serve at the sports bars back home! Sadly, I forgot to take photos - probably because I was so busy eating. We came to this place from google reviews mostly for drinks and decided to get food too, the place is awesome inside! Can't say this enough if you're going to watch games or fights or just for drinks this place rocks, but on the other hand the food here is just not it. We got the boneless wings which were some sort of chicken nugget with a sauce on them... also the Korean chicken sandwich which was alright but just not what I expected it was bland had no flavor. The worst offense was the thin crust cheese pizza, it was undercooked and it was soggy looked like it was made on a cracker. The server was awesome she was nice and came back often to get us drinks! Save this place for drinks and the football game, do not order food, unless they switch something up food wise I wouldn't eat there again.
