Urban Kitchen can be described best as a diner for the 21st century offering a variety of tempting options. I went for the Friday classics of fish and chips that included a truly amazing cream of crab soup! The crab soup was oh so good and yes I found some shell but that was fine because this was real crab!! The delivery of my dinner made my. mouth water ... onon rings over French fries with perfectly beer battered cod that proved to me that the folks in the kitchen know what they're doing (flaky and moist cod yum). My dining partner had a cheeseburger, which in my opinion was ho hum compared to my dinner but she said it was really good. Oh, the coleslaw was top notch too. After starting the day off right with a workout and before heading back home to Philly, we knew we had to get something to eat. I'd looked possible brunch places, saw this one and, based on the menu and reviews, suggested we check this place out. So glad we did! When we got there, it was definitely busy and we were nervous it would be a super long wait. But thankfully they told us it would be maybe 15 minutes and I feel like it was less time than that. Staff were all friendly and we really liked our waiter - shout-out to Dre. He had good energy, helpful suggestions on menu choices, was great at checking in at the right times, and both felt he did a really get job serving and engaging us throughout brunch. Based off his recommendations when I asked about drinks, I got the Sunrise Mimosa and my boyfriend got the Rum Punch Mimosa. Both were amazing! They definitely tasted like a great balance of a mimosa and the cocktail within its name. And the second round of those drinks we ordered somehow tasted better to us. Not the food, absolutely delicious! I got the Crab Benedict (at recommendation of our waiter), he got the Make Your Own Omelette and we shared a side of grits. Everything was served at the perfect temperature, great flavor and well seasoned (especially the potatoes)... We had no complaints. My husband and I went there today (Sunday) for dinner. We had to wait a (20 minutes) before being seated. But there is a reason they are busy....the food is very good, the price is worth the food, and our server was attentive. The stuffed mushrooms (4) are huge and well worth the $20. The inside of this place is very long and narrow and is surprisingly cute compared the the rough shopping center and parking lot. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. They have a decent drink menu and the cocktails were very good. Urban Kitchen has a very large food menu ranging from breakfast to sandwhiches and even seafood. The portions are very large! Met 4 old work mates here for breakfast today. None of us had been here before, but our previous place is now closed. We had an excellent breakfast and our server (Alfredo?) was insanely good. He took all our orders and didn't write anything down including all the options selected, and he didn't get anything wrong. I ordered the Mexican skillet with the avocado and salsa on the side. A friend has been telling me about her love for Urban Kitchen for years now and we finally met up for brunch. Omg! I wish I listened to her sooner. The place was cute and packed on a Saturday afternoon. We started with the crab cake stuffed mushrooms. They come in an order of four and each was about the diameter of a tennis ball and had minimal filler. Huge lumps of crab seasoned impeccably. For my entree I got stuffed pancakes. They were delicious and topped with a mound of fresh blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. And really what is brunch without a little day drinking... I had a lemonade martini! Yum!!! Everything went well! We were greeted immediately! Our server Ethan took the time to explain menu options and offered the appropriate level of attention.The crab stuffed mushrooms were delicious and large enough to be a full entree! I had the most nightmarish experience ever!!! I was seated after waiting 30 minutes, and this is where the nightmare begins. As soon as I was seated I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. When I came back a server named Alfred approached me, and asked me did I see some money on the table. I told him no, he murmured something, and said he'd be right back. He came back to take my order all the while acting annoyed. I later realized that this man thought I had stolen his tip!!!! He was argumentative, dismissive, and scolding when he did speak to me. Outside of that he simply ignored me. When I told him my eggs weren't to my liking, he felt it was his obligatory responsibility to enlighten me in the different types of egg preparations, and that I didn't know what I wanted. We made it to the end of this meal from hell, and I asked for to go containers. That I was lectured about as well. Unbeknownst to me I didn't know what containers were best for my beverage, and remaining food. At this point enough was enough!!! So in an attempt to defend myself I spoke up. Why did I do that? He preceded to really go in on me to imply that I stole his tip. I kept my wits about me, paid him for my meal, and left him no tip. I then proceeded to find a manager to report my experience. My family and I first tried out Urban Kitchen the first week it opened back in February. Since then we've gone twice in March and it gets better with each visit! Admittedly, our first trip wasn't perfect. I ordered the ribs knowing that a diner style restaurant with that diverse a menu wouldn't be able to make ribs like they should. They were mediocre at best; but to their credit, the rest of our meal was delicious. In addition, the dressings and sauces are just about everything is made from scratch. Our two March visits have been exceptional. They have a nice variety on their kid's menu (I have a 9 and a 7 year old). I tried the reuben with pastrami and then came back the following week for the reuben with corned beef. I preferred the corned beef. As a side, I've ordered cole slaw for each meal and it's about the best restaurant quality cole slaw that I've ever had; and I've tried a lot of cole slaw. We also ordered the wings (naked) with the sauce on the side. Again, sauces and dressings are prepared fresh and just taste better. The complimentary bread basket with whipped butter is also a favorite of our family. Bottom line....Urban Kitchen has a diner-like menu. I don't know if everything is top-notch. I missed (a little) on the ribs. But everything else I've tried there: from the salad, to the wings, to the bang bang shrimp, to the sandwiches have been hits.
