My server Kim was wonderful. She was upbeat and professional, polite, all rolled up into fantastic person. The atmosphere was traditional, American decor. Fried brussels sprouts in a teriyaki sauce were overly salt, however they were cooked well. Our salad was wonderful and the lasagna was very tasty, if any obtain more marinara sauce to make it above par( wink-wink), and I would have to rave about the desert, which was a Keylime tart. Not with a graham cracker crust, but with a butter cookie crust, which was wonderful. Don, the chef actually cares. came out doing lunchtime and visit every table in the dining area, including spent time talking with people at the bar. Nice old school eatery with a little DuPont family history attached to it. You can discover that on your visit.

I've driven past here so many times and was excited to finally try it out. The outside looks like it's a nicer restaurant but on the inside there is table sitting and on the other side just an older home town bar. Most people were on the older but it was pretty busy. The staff was efficient and the food and drinks came out really quickly. Everything was jus okay and the prices are a little high.

Nice spot! Visited on a springtime Friday evening-had reservations for three-I would recommend reservations, as it filled in quickly. Decent amount of parking in lot, but when busy, would fill up for sure. Waitress came to our table quickly with waters, then promptly served out drinks once ordered. We also received our apps very timely. Food was good, better than most reviews seem to communicate. Cool atmosphere, decent size bar, plenty of booths and tables. Definitely plan to return, now I see why it is so busy all the time.

Amazing!! As usual!! We had a delicious Calamari and also their Mac and cheese. Pilsner Urquell tasted like I was in Praha!! Our other beers included: Aslin Beer Co. Wraparound Eyes, and a Downeast Original Hazy Cider. Everything was amazing!! Beer was cold. Food was delicious. Service was exceptional.

Lovely crowded brunch place and since it's my fourth time trying this restaurant and hoping for a result I enjoy...it was still a mixed bag. I enjoyed my rare tuna with sticky rice. My husband however had a burnt dry Chinese Milanese with broccoli..eh...and mashed potatoes which were not served hot. I liked the onion rings. The wagyu burger was loved by the other people we came with.. The egg specials were just ok. That's that!

We spent the morning at Winterthur and our friends had made a reservation to have lunch at Buckleys Tavern at 2:00 PM. We arrived a little early for our reservation, and they very kindly found a table for us. This is a large restaurant that can accommodate bus groups which was happening when we were there. There are multiple dining areas. The restaurant has been around since 1817 and survived many uses. It became Buckleys Tavern in 1951 and is still going strong today. We were seated in the bar, which had a charming atmosphere. We were so impressed that even though it was completely full of dining patrons, we could easily converse with each other. This was a pleasant and welcome change from most restaurants where the noise is deafening. We were warmly greeted by our server, Andrea, who took excellent care of us. We started off with one of their Signature Appetizers - the Soft Pretzel Sticks, which were three German style pretzel sticks with honey mustard. They were warm and the mustard was delectable. Being in mushroom country, I started with a bowl of the Buckley's Exotic Cream of Mushroom Soup with crispy leeks. It was exotic and loaded with a variety of mushrooms with a delicate flavor. Then, I moved on the Roasted Mushroom Flatbread, which was topped with caramelized onions, fontina cheese, & balsamic drizzle. I was in heaven. My husband had the Chef Tom's New England Clam Chowder, which was thick and had bacon, potatoes and clams. He really liked his soup. He also enjoyed the large portion of Fish & Chips, which was fried Pollock and French fries with a malt vinegar aioli. He also asked for tartar sauce. Our friends ordered the Chef HB's Meatloaf dinner, which was made with beef, pork, and veal with mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, and beef gravy as well as a Turkey Club (smoked bacon, lettuce, and mayonnaise on white toast). They ordered a Coconut Cream Cake (coconut genoise and coconut cream layers iced with vanilla Chantilly cream.) It looked delicious. We were all thrilled with our meals, the service, and the setting. We look forward to coming again the next time we drive up from Baltimore.

Came with my family on a Saturday night after Longwood Gardens. I don't think we where the only ones. Miraculously, we where able to get seated in the back. Unfortunately, we where seated next to a family of very loud people, and the acoustics are awful. I never got my water refilled, and I don't think the food was worth the wait. Maybe next time.

Skip the California Salmon burger. I can't figure out what went wrong but I can't get rid of the horrible aftertaste.

Ask the Community - Buckley's Tavern

Do they take reservations? Didn't see anywhere on Yelp to reserve and no answer or voice mail when I called.

Yes. They take reservations. I made a reservation by phone for Sunday brunch.Reservations are for the dining room, no reservations for the bar - it is first come first served.

Is the fireplace in the dining room being working and being lit? That was the highlight ambience of one cold day that we dined there.

It was lit when I was there.

After all this time, we have finally worked our way through the entire menu. We are sad they ended…read morebrunch because that was definitely our favorite, but the WTF burger and the Kennedy Melt will do. Or the meatloaf wrap or chicken salad club. We get Val's cheesesteak eggrolls every time. I just had Val's mac and cheese on the last trip and it was phenomenal. We need to come on Jamaican night to try something different. We stopped by the Friday before St Patrick's day and it was packed! They had live music and some specials. The bartenders are the best! This is a great place to sit at the bar, watch some sports, and chill.

Tldr: If your thinking of going here, Do It! You may/may not like it depending on your taste in…read moreambience but the foods good, and people are are nice. Alright, if you cant tell from the reviews this place is somewhat polarizing... I went here for the first time recently and felt mixed on the experience. On one hand I loved the lowkey, mysterious, hyperlocal, dive bar atmosphere. On the other hand it does have a bit of a genuine dirty feel that can be off putting. The bathroom in particular is really quite bad, the bar is a bit musty and just feels like it would benefit greatly from a good wipe down. Additionally, I can see how the laid back bartenders and overly comfortable regulars could be a bit intimidating to folks who go in expecting a 'normal' restaurant experience. Servers here will not wait on you hand and foot nor will they at most any other local bar/tap, its just how it is. When you go to a place like this you should understand your visiting someone elses world for a bit, it's not McDonalds or a fancy Italian spot. If local dive culture is foriegn to you or you don't like it you will likely not like this spot. All that being said I found the somewhat aloof bartender and local regulars to be quite charming, reasonably attentive, and all very kind. I ordered some drinks and food, the food was suprisingly good for what you might expect when you arrive, and the drink was fine (just ordered a bottled beer or two). I feel like this place deserves more than a 3 star rating, but honestly I have a hard time saying that my experience was anything special or above being "okay". If I were a local I could see being a regular here, most out-of-towners probably wont like it - that being said If your bored on a random weeknight and don't want to cook at home, stop by and give Dead Presidents a shot, it may surprise you. Ownership, I'd recommend a solid deep cleaning, otherwise I have no real notes.
