I didn't know restaurants like this existed in Delaware. Originally from NYC so I am a bit spoiled! I've been in DE for a little of 5 years and this is the best restaurant I've been to hands down!!!! You can take all my money. All the crew back there are doing a phenomenal job with the preparations and quality of the food. All the dips are made from scratch and it tastes fresh. I'm not a salad person but I had the beet salad and it comes with fresh goat cheese spread; man oh man; I ordered takeout. The lamb chops are amazing!! The tea brined wings are really good and the sweet potato cornbread is a 10! The decor and ambiance of this location is beautiful! The coffee was a 10! Very strong & that's what I needed! I stumbled upon this gem while visiting the area. It's a nice size place that has outside seating which is likely really nice in the summer and spring. When my friend and I entered it was during their brunch service. I had no idea what to expect. The restaurant wasn't too busy (it was a Friday afternoon). The server was great. He was very attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. My friend ordered a shrimp po boy and I had a breakfast special. My friend's food was so good I didn't really want mine. But mine was tasty also. The first time I visited this place I was pleasantly surprised. Cute ambiance, good food and great drinks. (I enjoyed their mocktails because I was pregnant at the time). I have since went back three additional times, one to celebrate my son's graduation, another for date night with my husband, and finally a lunch date with another son. Each time since the first has been been worse than the time before. I had high hopes they would live up to my first experience, which is why I kept going back. Their menu is inconsistent, asking for items listed is a hit or miss, so don't go get your mouth watering for something until you can confirm they actually have it. Quality is also inconsistent. (I really enjoyed the texture of their fries the first time I went, and then they changed and they were just not as good) when I mentioned it to the waiter her response was they're trying different options to see what's a hit with the customers. Ok...I guess. What can u say to that? Food requiring sauce was perfectly balanced the first visit , since then i've ordered food that was completely smothered in sauce with whats supposed to be a "glaze".On my last visit I ordered calamari as an appetizer and when I tell u, I could easily count out how many pieces were in the bowl, i should have. I'm going to go on a limb and say 10 to 15 pieces and I'm talking the small dime sized calamari (which I do prefer) i will add the calamari was delicious, but for close to $20, I was totally surprised they would even plate that amount. It actually wouldn't had been acceptable even if the price was lower. Finally, the bartender made me the mostt horrible drink I have ever tasted (that's no exageration) upon taking a sip I immediately frowned up, it caught me so off guard I had to down the glass of water hoping the taste wouldn't last. It tasted like straight pickle juice! She was very kind, took the drink back...now here's the kicker. When she took the drink back my son and I saw her try it herself behind the bar with a straw (which I don't mind, many bartenders do this. The thing is we saw her immediately frown up and make a disgusted face at her own drink (pretty funny). So when she come over I said, what did u think of the drink u made? And instead of keeping it real and saying "yeah that one was a little off" or something of that sort which I would have appreciated, and just laughed off. She said in the sweetest voice "honestly, it wasn't that bad". All I could say was "wow! You must have one hell of a palette! Don't know if I'll be back. Too many inconsistencies. read more

Such a great first time visit to this place! This place gives upscale vibes without the upscale prices but also without slacking on food quality and taste. We went for their weekend brunch and it was great. Their menu was versatile and unique, with a bunch of great breakfast and lunch options. They even had a DJ during the brunch hours and he was great too, spinning some fun, upbeat songs while our group was hanging out. Our server was Selena and she was incredible, mixing up some amazing cocktails and always being kind, friendly, and attentive to us. My husband and I stopped in for an impromptu Happy Hour (which they call Social Hour), and I'm so glad we did. The atmosphere and vibe were fantastic. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were all very friendly and attentive. We ordered the cheese curds, coconut shrimp, and seafood egg rolls. Everything was delicious, but the coconut shrimp and seafood egg rolls definitely stole the show, we ordered seconds of both! For drinks, we each had an Old Fashioned, which were sweet and smoky. Parking can be a little tight in the lot directly in front of the restaurant, but there's an additional lot right across the street that's very convenient. Just left Jackson House again because I was craving those potatoe skins I was telling ya'll about. Unfortunately, they didnt have them today. However, this forced me to try something new. I ordered the Fried Lamb Chops & Seafood Egg Rolls. So glad I did because both were THE BOMB! The fried lamb chop was soooo tender. It came with a side of hot honey sauce that tasted homeade. And DONT get me started on the seafood egg rolls! The filling of the egg rolls were so good but the kicker was the rolls being tossed in garlic parm sauce after. This is a very nice restaurant. The servers were really nice and friendly. The service was excellent. We had 630 reservations and we arrived a little early and they seated us right away. We ordered our drinks and appetizers. And we received it right away. We ordered our entrees and it was amazing that once we finished our Appetizers, they were there with our entrees. Our oysters came out right with our entree with some apologies. The margarita was good, a little too on the sweet side for me. Our entrees were good, pink on the smash burger was new for me but as someone that doesn't mind pink it was ok. If you don't like any pink be careful. Food overall was delicious. 10.00$ buffalo chicken soup with no chicken make it make sense didn't like didn't eat but they took it off my bill thankfully I got the salmon 29.99 for basically bunch of oversized broccoli and a plate comprised of mostly mashed potato's and a tiny sliver of salmon prob only big enough for a child . But the flavor of the salmon was delicious just needed a bigger portion. My son got wings I tried one they were pretty good to . Service though was great :) . Food was hot . As this location only opened a little over a week ago, I am going to believe that's the reason for why I cannot give it 5 stars at this time. I made a reservation but I arrived about 30 minutes before to which I was promptly seated, however noticed that I didn't truly need a reservation for this Sunday's brunch. Maybe many people were traveling or decided to stay in, but considering this is still a new restaurant in the area I did expect it to be crowded. My main concern was that I was seated and it took about 10 minutes before anyone even greeted me. I noticed all the waitstaff and manager walking around me and initially was wondering if I was invisible, but I think maybe my coming in early the host didn't communicate to the waitresses therefore it was not clear who's table I was. I noticed a table that was sat after me was promptly greeted, maybe it was because it a 5 of them and only myself for brunch that led to that. Either way the young lady came over and didn't even apologize for the wait as she looked right at me when she and the other waitress were trying to figure it out then went to the host station before coming over to me. I say this because all aspects of service is very important especially for a new restaurant and management needs to communicate this. Oh and I did find it odd that I was asked what type of water I wanted by my escort to table, it really threw me off and perhaps that should take place as usually expected after seated. Also, I noticed my waitress poured another table's water into their glasses, but did not do the same for me. Consistency in service is a must! I decided go order less than I planned because while I gave grace for the wait the fact that there was no acknowledgment of it, that changed my desire to explore the menu. I ordered a Lavender Elixir cocktail which was very tasty, however it was missing the flower as indicated on menu and other reviews. I asked the waitress for their top sellers and she suggested the Chicken and Waffles and their breakfast plate which I went with the Chicken and Waffles with a side of scrambled eggs with American. The eggs were cooked very well however it is clear that they were liquid eggs and not 2 whole eggs as indicated on the menu; the latter being my preference. I did add some pepper and the eggs included chives (not indicated on menu so if have issue with that inform) but I was pleasantly pleased with the taste prior to adding the pepper. The waffle pieces were warm and along with the syrup they were delectable. The chicken was a chicken steak piece that was fried perfectly, however something was missing in the seasoning (thinking some pepper/cayenne) that made me have to add some hot sauce to it. I will give them a plus to my stars because nothing was overly salty! I gave the middle of the road rating because it was just so so to me. The ambience is fantastic, especially for Middletown, and I really enjoyed the musical entertainment during brunch. I'm not going to go out of my way to go again any time soon, but I would give them another try especially since dinner reviews seem to be highly rated. read more

We had a dinner reservation and arrived about 30 mins early but we were seated promptly. We found it odd that we were asked what type of water we wanted by the front door before being seated. They could easily ask after you're seated. The non tap waters were $10+. The waitress was attentive and made sure our food was to our liking. We order crab and artichoke dip as an appetizer. It was good but for the price it wasn't worth it. It was small and came with an even smaller amount of chips. We asked for more chips which they brought out but after looking at the bill they charged an extra 2.50 for barely bringing a small bowl of chips. Overall the food we ordered was good although expensive. I would only return on a special occasion. We were invited to celebrate a special event with family last night at Jackson House. We had such a great time! The hometown feel made me really appreciate that it's one of the few restaurants in town that is not a chain. The service was top notch! Fast, and clearly the staff uses an 'all hands on deck' approach. They make sure that you never wait for anything! The food was amazing. We went for appetizers and entrees, but they have a big selection. I had passion fruit salmon, slightly sweet and a tiny bit of spice. Others in our party had Oceans Edge (Steak and Shrimp), Chicken Roulade, and a HUGE Turkey Club. Calamari for an appetizer. Everything was cooked to perfection, presented professionally and Delicious!! We will definitely put this on our list of favorites. The only reason I rated it a 4 and not 5 was the tipping policy. I hope they change that. They automatically add 20% when 6 or more people. I have no problem with that! More people mean more service, but they also add 20% if your bill is $150 or more. That was us with 5 people. That was also a table next to us that had 2 people. Drinks, appetizer, entree and dessert could definitely get you there. I'm not convinced that two people who are already paying more than $150 should be required to pay 20%. I may pay 20% and for last nights service I probably would have anyway, but I want it to be my choice. If they change that one little part of their policy, They'd be a 5 for me!! read more

They bring you bottled tap water that you pour on your own, as I started to sip my water, I felt a something sharp on my tongue. I spit it out and realized that I came very close to swallowing a shard of glass. I brought to the attention of our server, She said "sorry about that". And brought us another bottle. It amazed me that they didn't take this more seriously. They did not make any accommodation in the way of a discount. I decided to ask for the manager on the way out. The manager met us in the lobby. I I expressed concern about the glass. She said that it was not brought to her attention and then said the same thing - "sorry about that" and laughed it off. Jackson house New Year's Eve dinner with a group of 6 friends & neighbors. Our server was pretty good, trouble with our bill at the end--had do redo 3 times. A couple of mix ups on our drink orders was a poor start. Food was good, service was poor. We all ordered salads, 4 came out in about 10 minutes--the other 2 took another 10 minutes. Hardly any dressing on the salads--asked for additional dressing but after another 10 minutes they brought out 4 ranch--we needed Caesar for 2 and Italian for 2. When the dressing came out--so did dinner. As I said dinner was very good-2 had Salmon, 3 had Pasta bolognese and 1 had steak, Very large portions. There was a lot of staff standing around doing nothing, which explained why it took so long getting our salads and extra dressing. No - no - no - The biscuit came out burnt, so burnt I almost choked while trying to tell the bartender that they didn't send my hash browns instead of fries. So, out came no fries as well. NOW, I pick up the top of the biscuit and find a huge pile of disgusting butter on top of the sausage! The bartender could clearly see I didn't eat half for the meal, but asked no questions. By the way, the first bartender didn't even know how to make a screwdriver drink! We didn't like it in Dover, and they are even worse in Middletown!!
