Truffle fries

Cool spot, found out about it on Yelp. This spot isn't crazy advertised, and unless you know about it, you'd have no reason to walk down this alleyway. Visited on a Thursday evening, and wasn't really sure what to expect. Very nondescript entrance, steel door on a block wall, simply marked with a hummingbird-I didn't tell my guest where we were going and she was a little apprehensive until we got upstairs. Ring the bell and the host will ask you what size party and greet you by answering the door. You will be led into the restaurant up a candlelit set of stairs and enter the seating area-Bar seats maybe eight. We ordered a couple of drinks and a few apps, and dined while live music was being played-Massimo Brutto played/sang mostly standards from the 40s and 50s-really good vibe. Heck of a drink menu and plenty of food options-great spot, will definitely return.

This is one of those spots that isn't for everyone but for those that are into the Speakeasy vibe you will love it from the moment you ring the bell. Make reservations especially if you want an early dinner and to be seated by the time live music starts at 9. I've known about this place for years but just patronized for the first time last month. I've now been here 3 times in less than a month, 1st time solo, 2nd time a date and last night with my college age daughter. I sat at the bar the first time thankfully I was able to get a seat there arriving about 930 pm. The 2nd time we arrived about 830 pm without a reservation and there was a 45 minute wait, we went somewhere near by until getting the text for our table. For last night, I emailed around 2 pm to reserve a table at 8 pm but was told needed to do 830 pm. We arrived rang the bell confirmed we had a reservation and was promptly seated. The street tacos with shrimp are a hearty appetizer especially if you aren't sharing. They certainly have authentic taco flavor. Honestly there isn't anything that I have not enjoyed here. This isn't the place to come if you are looking to have many cocktails as these cocktails are truly crafted and it takes time to make. You will be waiting for your drinks but at least those that I have had been worth it.

These two cocktails had egg whites. So yummy!

Saw on TikTok so dropped in when visiting from out of town. Cool vibe and great music. The drinks were fantastic! Food was okay. Friendly staff. You'll like it for a date night or cocktails with the girls.

Service was great They had a huge dinner party, which was extremely loud and took away from the speakeasy feel. Food was great.

I've always had a great experience at this speakeasy! From the moment you step into the place to when you leave, it's a real vibe! I really love the live music on weekends. The server was very informative and helpful and kind. The pizza and fries were both flavored well and perfectly cooked! The drinks were delicious!! We asked for the prettiest drinks and these were recommended. I loved my lavender one. They also had a dessert one we drank at the end of dinner, which my fiancé loved!!!

Pork tacos

This was my first time the whole experience from entering walking up the candlelight stair case to hearing the live band and seeing the relaxed atmosphere, it really felt like you stepped outside the state of Delaware and were in a whole new world. Perfect environment for a date night. We started with a few cocktails and they were absolutely amazing, and the food was fantastic. The servers was also very nice and fast, while balancing about 8 tables he would take his time and it was just great

2 of my friends have birthdays within 2 days of each other so they planned for a group of us to get cocktails here to celebrate. Due to our party size, my friend made a reservation ahead of time but my understanding is that you may not need them if you have a smaller sized party or its after a certain time. We went into the Irish Pub below at first and the host let us know where to find the door. It was pretty cool to see the bird with the hummingbird on it and ringing the doorbell for admission. The vibe is like a cozy Victorian parlor. It's dark furniture, dim lighting but (at least our table) was couches with pillows. Very small table for the group sitting area so even if you just get drinks, it can be a little cramped, and then if you get food, you have to get creative with putting your drinks on the smaller shelf under the table. The drink menu is extensive. If you are into mixology, I think you would appreciate the options and the details in drinks. For food we got truffle fries, cheesesteak eggrolls and the hummus platter. Everything tasted great, but as some other reviews mention, the food is the same that you can get in the pub below, so you are really coming here for drinks and atmosphere. I am happy that I got to experience it with my friends and it was my first time being out in Trolley Square.

This was so fun! Never did the speak easy experience. Went for after dinner drinks and it did not disappoint. Cocktails were above par ! Definitely will be back.

Really cute spot. It might be the only speakeasy I've ever been to but it's still the best. I felt transported back to prohibition when I walked inside. The bar is stunning, as is the rest of the space. I was with a large party and we were sat in the front room. We were on comfy corner seats around a center low table. It was a good setup for appetizers and drinks. I was only able to stay for a little while, so I had one cocktail. I went with the zombie and it very much delivered on the name. It was delicious. The menu and cocktail list are both outstanding. We tried the hummus, truffle fries and cheesesteak egg rolls. The truffle fries were AMAZING. I will absolutely order those again when I go back. Can't wait to return!

This place has a cozy atmosphere and is a great location for a date night. The menu is diverse enough and the drink menu is expansive. I ordered a Caesar salad with salmon and it was great! The salmon was moist and well seasoned. I also had a glass of Cabernet. Not sure what the brand was but it was good as well. There was live music that was fitting for the location; a little jazz, a little pop. Also, the entrance is on a side street and not the main street. Look for the door with the hummingbird!

I found this speakeasy on phl date night! I surprised my husband with reservations here. We loved the ambiance although it didn't seem as authentic as some of the other speakeasies we've visited in the past. Unfortunately, we ate prior to coming. The food looked and smelled amazing. Our server was amazing and offered so many great suggestions. My husband said it was the best old fashioned he's ever had. The bartender created a orange ginger martini at my request. It was delicious. We got funnel cake fries as a snack as recommended by the server. So good. I almost ate the entire bowl alone. There was live jazz music which made the vibe even better. We'll be back for sure so se can taste the food and have more great drinks.

What is the normal dress code for women?

I'd say casual, based upon my visit. Not t-shirt casual, but jeans and a nice shirt are perfectly acceptable.

The food we had was fine. The mussles and frites were good, I would have thought the fries come with the sauce but they didn't. The risotto was slight malt under seasoned. The beet salad was really tasty! This resturant is always thorough when it comes to allergies. They have a hard time with the two server communication aspect. I've been here twice and both times they seemed one beat off from each other. Also for having two servers they don't check on you often enough. That could also be a communication/timing thing. (if you think someone else was there or not) we only ordered one drink because we didn't want to wait after we finished our food to order another. The drinks here are fantastic though. We dined for 2 hours and only was able to order one drink and apps. We probably would have enjoyed more but personally I didn't have to time sit any longer. I would give them one more try but 202 is a pain and this might not be worth the drive with so many comparable options of fine dining in Wilmington.

Waiter brought me 2/3 of a cup of warm coffee and asked if I wanted milk or cream and sugar instead of bringing them over. Had to wait five minutes for my eerily specific request for a certain number of creams and Splenda. No spoon or other way to mix the cream and sugar. I couldn't find a single thing on the menu that seemed even remotely close to palatable, so I ordered an English muffin, thinking I'd be safe. Wrong. It was doughy and soaked with butter. Should I have told them to hold the butter because I was a jelly guy? Who knows. I've never felt more like leaving a zero dollar tip than I did at Greenhouse Gastropub. Skip it.

We were greeted immediately by our server and a trainee. I ordered an old fashioned and my wife ordered a specialty cocktail. Both tasted great however, wait for the drink was excessive. The bar had an afterwork crowd and it appeared a bit understaffed. For my meal I ordered grilled octopus for a starter and I think it was one of the best I've ever had. Tender, savory with a really flavorful sauce. My wife had the Ricotta focaccia. Loved it. For dinner I had the pasta with mushroom and truffle. It was amazing. Temperature was perfect. It was hot, creamy and amazingly flavorful. My wife had the bream fish dish. She enjoyed that as well. For dessert we had the almond/chocolate tort. Very nicely warmed with a rich chocolate flavor to end the meal. I'll be back for sure.

However, the menu got the best of us and we ended up ordering a bunch of little things which ended up being far too much, but definitely in a good way. The space is quirky with a wonderful neo-mod design that is very eye catching and makes great use of the old diner aesthetic of the previous space, while improving upon it a hundredfold by making it much classier but not over the top. It does feel decidedly like a 1960's Italian locale out of a Roger Moore or Sean Connery era Bond film; to great effect. Another thing I loved about the design is that it feels compact but not small. I dislike huge restaurants, and love the family owned vibe, and this space occupies the very nice Goldilocks zone between being 'just right'. The food was good and I will get to that, but what really made our experience was our outstanding, amazing, dare I say...... legendary server, Alice. She was just flat out hands down an all around pro with a great attitude, a kind smile, and a wonderful personality who knew exactly how to keep a table like ours happy, engaged, and ready to come back again. This is something that I feel has been missing in so many places since Covid occurred, and encountering someone as great as Alice just really made the whole time there a notch above. Finally getting to the food, which was obviously delicious, there was nothing that was absolutely mind blowing, but all of it was very unique and extremely well prepared and flavorful. I did like that not everything was tomato-centric on the menu and there was a vast variety of different dishes that match the uniqueness of the space. The highlight for me was the carrot soup, not an every day item, that was nice and heavy with cumin. Brilliant flavors but not too forward, which followed our caprese dip that was an outstanding take on a dish that everyone loves, but is overdone at this point. The bread they are serving here is insanely good; either lightly toasted or grilled quickly on a flat grill, I am not sure, but slathered with high quality olive oil and it's perfectly soft, crispy, crusty, and chewy all at the same time. Testa Rossa is definitely worth checking out, and we only went for a few small plates with the intention of it being a snack. Apparently the family has more than one location, although I am not sure where the others are. If you are near Glen Mills, it is definitely worth the trip to stop in here and give them a try. Oh, and don't forget to pair your food with the super cool espresso martini tower, because you get to choose the flavors, but I'm still sticking with classic as my favorite!
