I came in on a Wednesday afternoon, and will serve by a very friendly bartender. I took my laptop out to the Beer patio, and had a nice quiet place to get some work done. My husband and I had lunch here with some friends recently. I tried the cauliflower soup and it was absolutely delicious. The Reubens, which is one of their signature dishes, were really good as well. The service was just okay though. Our friends were almost done eating before our Reubens came out, so that was a little annoying. The bartender/waitress was nice and fairly attentive but probably could have used some help cause there were a good many people there. The history behind the place was pretty neat. FUTURE MUSICANS READ BEFORE BOOKING! I am a musician who was scheduled to play at Sully's on last Saturday April 26. I was very excited to play here as it looked like a nice venue and has a rich history being Delaware's oldest pub in which founding fathers had dined and drank at. That excitement went away very quickly when as I was asked to leave midway through my performance. I was in the middle of a country rendition of "Colt 45", in which I only play the chorus of the song, when the on-duty manager walked up to me and stopped me mid performance. She looked very concerned and told me my set list could not include songs with smoking references or any profanity. I then stopped playing that song and played two or three more songs after that which were more traditional country songs and attempted "bleep out" anything that may seem "inappropriate". This was not good enough. When I went to take my second break of the night two hours into the show, she told me I had to pack up and leave. She said the owner is disappointed and the vibe just isn't right. Mind you, everyone in the place was nodding and singing along to the songs including her. When I asked if I could continue to perform clean country songs, she said no. When I asked her if I could speak to the owner, she said no. When I asked for a number to contact the owner, she said no. So, I was forced to leave. Now for some context, this place is a 21 and up ID required Irish Pub open late into the night hours. Neither me or my manager who booked the show were told prior to the show that there were stipulations on song topics or lyrics. I was told that my song topics and lyrics were a problem after performing for over an hour and a half. Despite all of this I was kicked out, disrespected, and embarrassed. This was a horrible way to conduct business. Despite my frustration with the situation, I have to give credit where credit is due. Sully's still paid me for the show and did not charge me for the tab as agreed on. The manager was very nice and handled the situation to the best of her ability given the owner's demand to kick me out. I want to make it very clear that this was not her fault and that she was unaware of the owner's strict stipulations also. The point of this review is to: one, explain the situation and to make it be known the owner of Sully's conducted business horribly. If you are going to have a problem with song topics and lyrics you need to disclose that beforehand, If it had been disclosed beforehand I would have played nothing but clean wholesome country songs; two, that the manager did her best given the situation she was cornered into and; three, for future musicians to be aware that they need to be 100% clean when playing at Sully's and even then, to still be careful as some clean country songs have smoking and drug references. I truly hope this never happens again to a future musician. This was very embarrassing, humiliating, and disheartening to deal with. God Bless!!! read more

Who knew there was awesomeness in Middletown, DE? Sully's Irish Pub, Delaware's oldest pub. We got the cheesesteak with mushrooms and it came with beer cheese and steak fries. This Cheesesteak was tasty. The beer cheese was very good. It was thinish so it worked its way through the cheesesteak pretty well. The fried onions and mushrooms added a lot of flavor. The roll is not a traditional cheesesteak roll. We had a major roll blowout. I think the $13.50 ($1.50 for the mushrooms) was a touch High. read more

My wife and I stopped in for a drink. I ordered a double irish whiskey on the rocks, and my wife asked the tender for something sweet. She was friendly and professional. She returned to inquire about our satisfaction. She was replaced at shift change. The new associate was friendly, mostly to my wife. We discovered there was going to be music, and I was able to order a beer. While waiting for the music, the bar person asked my wife if she wanted anything. She declined. The bar person them brought the check, never acknowledging my presence. Assuming my business was not wanted, we closed out the check and went to another bar to finish out the evening. No frills no thrills type bar. Old, young and pretty damn spacious (the bar you pervs). Lots and lots of friendly staff, mixed in with a very very interesting crowd. I won't elaborate as I like to make people use their imagination. I don't know if it was me but that night I was there, it seemed I was dead set on drinking everything in the bar. Whiskey. Vodka. Fireball shots...everything. What was even more impressive was every time I went back to the bar to buy a round, my drinks kept getting cheaper and cheaper. They had a live acoustic set which was getting in the way of my alcohol consumption but once they finished, I was no longer at time out. Full steam ahead. But I did manage to pick up some key notes: whoever you order a shot from will pour you a different measurement. The one male bartender/server only served shots in the mini plastic shot glasses. We're not in 6th grade buddy. This other female bartender would serve shots in the regular shot glasses, concave shaped. Ok. The best female bartender (didn't get name or pics - I can't creep in a different state - I'm from NYC ya'll) would pour all our shots into a rocks glass, 1/4 the way. It tasted more like 2 shots. Yes, I measured. I thought her first pour was a fluke accident so I proceeded to experiment. Ordered a round from male tender 1, no. Ordered a round from female tender 2. eh. Congratulations! Of all the restaurants I have ever dined in, this has to be the worst. I came in one Sunday afternoon with a couple of golf buddies for a couple of beers and a sandwich. BIG MISTAKE. The overpowering smell of mold should have been enough of a clue to dissuade us from continuing, but we were in a hurry and hungry. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, it had to be at least a week old. I picked around the really gross parts, and fortunately did not get sick. The really amazing thing was the beer sucked, too. Me and my girlfriend went there to have lunch about a month ago and I didn't expect the food to be great to be honest... It looks like any regular Irish pub with greasy pub food, but we were hungry so we gave it a try and I am glad we did!! We ordered a Ruben sandwich and a 1/2 pound of giant shrimp. Both were fantastic!! The meat on the Ruben was so fresh and moist with a great flavor and the bread wasn't at all greasy, I might even say that it was the best Ruben I ever ate (and we order Rubens quite frequently lol). Now the shrimp I expected to be in a thick breading, deep fried; but no, they were delicious!! A very thin coating of breading with seasoning and man were they huge!! Definitely worth the money and I would recommend this place to anyone that is in the area. My wife and I were in Middletown, DE and since it was a beautiful day we attracted to Sully's by the outdoor seating which seemed perfect to take advantage of the 70 degree weather in November. We started with the crab dip appetizer and then my wife had the brisket tacos and I had the crab cake entrée. Being from Maryland, and being a dedicated crab lover, I was a bit hesitant to order crab dishes anywhere outside of Maryland but I was having a crab craving so I went for it. As it turns out, the chef was from Baltimore and came through with the best crab dip and crab cakes I've had. My salad was so fresh. My wife's brisket tacos were equally appreciated. The brisket was so tender and the avocado, lettuce, onions and aioli sauce were perfect complements. Even the steak fries deserve mention. They were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside and so flavorful. They weren't very busy when we there so we got a chance to talk to the chef, Dave. He is new and has redesigned the menu. We were really expecting only pub food but the menu was very diverse and offered something for everybody. read more

Visited Sully's on Saturday and was treated like a piece is crap! Took very long to bring our food after waiting over an 1/2 hour for our appetizer I wanted to pay for what we ate and leave. I was told by the owner (Chuck) "your going to pay for your entire order and take it with you"!! First of all he was extremely rude and how does he get off telling me what I was going to do with my own money!! Furthermore I'm not accustom to paying for poor service. In order to keep the piece and not make a scene I paid for the order and we threw the food away! I think Chuck is a bigot and I will never ever step foot in this place again!!! This place is like an episode of Bar Rescue... The owner appears to be an obnoxious loud drunk. He's totally shnokered and playing darts. Screaming his own drink orders across the whole non-airconditioned place. (When someone asked if there was AC for this 80 degree night, the staff and regulars warn "don't poke the bear"...wtf does that mean???). His shouted drink "orders" interrupt his pretty and attentive staff who are paying attention to HIS customers in spite of his lecherous and demeaning commentary...childish shit like deliberatley blocking servers' paths so they have to rub past him. GROSS. ScUMmY. YUCK. He publically berated two of the experienced staff and was hitting on the very young new trainee...I wanted to shake him/punch him/throw up all at the same time. The servers pour a good drink. Too bad the owner makes you feel like a drunken bar fight will break out any second!!! Nothing like having to watch your back from the proprietor!! So yelp notified me that they removed my second review. Lol. Here's my first amendment right to tell you the in my opinion I would never eat at this restaurant. The owner was rude and so was the waitstaff. Three months ago a review was posted by "Scott M." Stating, "The owner is a douche bag..." I find it interesting that this review does not violate Yelp's content guidelines while my honest review is informative, not personal, and does. Interesting. So, here's my review. To get into this restaurant you first need to find parking. It's not easy. It is also not a family restaurant. You frequently will find very intoxicated people who are very loud and sometimes very rude between the inside which is one huge bar and a few tables and the outside which, if you love cigarette smoke you'll love the outside. Even other restaurants in Delaware and the surrounding states don't permit smoking within the perimeter of the outside dining area. It's very uncomfortable. I was at the restaurant one night and the Guinness tasted old and was way too cold. I would love it to find one Irish restaurant that can actually pour an authentic pint of Guinness. The night I was in the restaurant I saw what could only be described as a person whom I was later informed was the owner of the restaurant yelling at a patron. I was told this frequently happens by the people sitting next to me and that they would not be back either. The bathrooms are dirty. I can't tell you about how clean the kitchen is because I have never seen it. Until recently the only food you could get at this place was a bag of potato chips after like 8 or 9 pm. I think I heard they are serving food now. Additionally, the night I was at the restaurant they were trying to charge us for drinks that we did not order. They tried to pull a fast one on us, and I find that to be a terrible business practice. Now, this is my review of this restaurant based on my experience. When I consult this app, it is to determine whether or not I want to roll the dice or be as certain as possible when I put my money into eating anywhere other than my own kitchen. If you start asking for only positive reviews, or you tell someone they are negative, then what's the point? When I review a restaurant that I feel is good, I will rate it as such. I eat out no less than 4 times a week and I can honestly say that I have eaten at some of the finest restaurants on the east coast from Boston to Miami. I've dined in Michelin rated restaurants and I've dined at five star restaurants. I have also eaten at "dives": some were good...some I wouldn't go back to. The bottom line is if you are in the hospitality business you are in the public eye. If you don't like the review, maybe you need to change the way you treat your customers or at least what you let them see while they are in your establishment. But that's just MY opinion. read more

My chicken sandwich which was supposed to be on a kaiser roll was served on a glorified hot dog bun smothered in what was supposed to be ranch sauce. This place is bad.... Small, run down, bar stool's are wobbly and getting ready to fall apart. Service is slow, half the time they forget to put your order in, and rarely bring you silverware. Food is ok but will say crab cakes and hamburgers are quite good! Ordered a side dish of Veggies because not doing the carbs thing and she told me what they were. After waiting for food, she brings me fries and told me since there is only one cook today there is no substitutions, This was not a substitution but a side order I was paying for. Came here with a bunch of friends for dinner before hitting the movies. Our waitress was very friendly and master DJ (free credits on the jukebox that night). The food was absolutely delicious. I can't remember the appetizers my friends bought, but the ones I tried were delicious. I ordered an appetizer with crab and French fries, and a Rueben sandwich.
