Ordered doordash. Received very quickly. Doordash did their job. Grottos forgot our French fries,…read more bag was stapled and sealed when we Received the order. Also, the meat on the cheesesteak was burnt. Again, nothing to do with doordash. Called Grottos, young lady who i spoke with talked to the manager, if you want to call them that, said that it's not on them, I have to put my complaint in with Doordash. We have been customers for years. Guess who we will not be visiting anymore. Management can make or break a place. Passing the buck and not apologizing is just showing how poor the management really is. When I told the young lady on the phone that it's a shame they were going to lose a good customer over a burnt cheesesteak and French fries, she laughed. Plenty of other places to eat that care more about their customers than Dover Grottos!

I have already written a google review on this place, but since I am unable to edit it I needed to…read moreshare another piece of important information. The rewards program/swirl card system seems like a good idea in theory. You give them your name and number and every so often you will get a 10.00 discount on your order and a free children's pizza on your birthday. But beware, if you have any kind of issue in their restaurant, even if it has nothing to do with the staff, they will use your participation in this program against you. They will give your name and number to the police and involve themselves in matters that should not concern them. I am nearly 40 and have never had any trouble with the law in my entire life until they meddled in my business; the context of which they knew nothing about. They will do this with no hesitation. When you confront them about this they will deny it. But no one else there knew my number but their computer system. To make matters worse they will then ban you from their restaurant. The servers are very two-faced, and the general manager John is one of the most heartless men I've ever met. I was a very loyal regular customer every Friday night for years. I had friends there I loved who I will never see again. That is the hardest part of all. No goodbyes, no second chances. They did it to me, please don't think it won't happen to you. I don't think a few ten dollar discounts here and there and a once a year baby sized pizza with no toppings are worth it. Proceed with caution. I cannot speak for the other locations, I only know they did this at grotto's Dover.

Mary was nice. The food was not bad at all…read more It was 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon and not busy. Mary talked a lot. And was very nice. But instead of carrying on a conversation about how there's another server and maybe she will give our table to them. Okay maybe not. Okay how about I just order your drinks. maybe. Just don't do that. First it was. The wings are ready but we're waiting on the chicken sandwich. So of course the wings come out looking like they sat under a warmer for awhile. Whatever. The fries didn't come out with my husbands wings but did come out with my sandwich. and she told us it would be another 10 min for fries. Ok. She must have stopped at our table three times while waiting. To give us another update on the fries. Then My husband asked for a tea. While he was eating his blazin wings. His drinks were both empty. She said ok. Goes to another table. Chats and gets a drink order. Heads to beverage station. Gets the other tables drinks. Comes back and says sorry the tea is out. Then wanted to talk about other drink options. He's still eating blazing wings with no water or drink. He asks for a Pepsi. She says she has that and explains how sorry she is that there is no tea left and finally heads back to get Pepsi. Right behind her is the guy carrying a tea pitcher. Lol. She comes back with a Pepsi. He's done with his food at this point. I feel like. There are only a few things that are a must in a wing joint. Make sure the person eating always has a beverage. Also shouldn't everyone know how to make tea? It was 4pm on a Thursday at this point. We know they will need more tea today.

But you knew that when you drove up to this unprepossessing cafe-bar that looks like a former 50's frozen custard stand turned into biker bar. Which, it probably is. The gals under Valerie's management fly at light speed out of the kitchen, serving Yuengling lager on tap (yeah!) and the usual Bud offering as well as hot and cold sandwiches, Boardwalk fries, nachos and all the things that your doctor and dietician say "not to." There is a pinball machine (featuring Harley Davidson backbox), several other electronic games, one of which has a customized "joke" seat (toilet seat nailed to a wooden captains chair, along with a handy roll and dispenser on the back. Quaint! But don't get any dumb ideas!) Tables are comfy or you can sit at the bar. No booths. The steak sandwiches are well-known in these part and taste good; too good. There is one that is about as long as Jeremy Lin's arm. Seriously. It's huge. In case you can't imagine that, lacquered (I hope) rolls are hanging near the cash register so you can estimate roll length versus appetite strength. The bun has recently exceeded the meat content but their prices have stayed steady so you know what's happening. We all have to manage somehow. I'm not sorry as the flavor is good and I don't need so much saturated fat in any case. I do not fault them. The crowd is what you'd call "eclectic" or "local" and this is not a dainty boite to take a first date unless you already know he or she is a fan of local, very local bars. For local this is. Personally, I always love such places and our state has some of the better locals-only spots that are entirely enjoyable and beat a chain restaurant any day of the week. Valerie's is clean. It smells ONLY of beer, which I can't say about some other places I've visited. No cigarette smoke as our state has gone no-indoor-plumbing, I mean, indoor smoking.

I will say the bartender was very nice and the drinks were solid. The cheesesteak unfortunately was not. Perhaps it was good for this area, but for someone who has tried 20+ from spots in Philly and surrounding areas, it was nowhere near the conversation. Meat was a bit dry, not enough cheese, and the bread was too soft so if there was more cheese, it would have ripped right through the bread. Loved the place, would like to go back and try other foods and hang out for karaoke again, but i'd pass on the cheesesteak next time around.
