3.5 stars. It's a small place and looks like a hole-in-the-wall bar. But good place to chill and enjoy your drinks. Service is a dash! If you're able to find a seat, you'll notice they are fairly comfy. There's also a pretty neat pool table at the back of the bar AND an entrance into the next door Mexican diner, where I got some munchies for the night, including 2 chicken tacos. I've been here a few times before. The last time was probably about two years ago. My memory of the Reno Room was that the list time I was there I didn't particularly like it but I couldn't remember why. I was here with a small group of friends and we stopped in for an after dinner drink on our way home. The bar has a "rough around the edges" look and feel to it. Probably not my personal preference, but I didn't feel uncomfortable. We ordered a round of drinks, all the drinks were okay, nothing seemed to stand out as good or bad. The neighborhood has a wide age range of residents, I imagine the Reno Room is probably more popular with the younger crowd. Reno Room has mexican food and yummy drinks. I have never been inside, because of closures but they did a great job of seating us quickly while simultaneously following CDC regulations. Love this place, it is walking distance from me so that makes it very cool for me. This place has 2 pool tables and a couple of TV's if you want to catch a game. If you are hungry you can always order from Coco Reno's which is attached next door, they have some awesome cheese enchiladas & mushroom tacos. This is a pretty unique restaurant/bar in a nice area of Long Beach. Its a Mexican restaurant, but also a dive bar. One side is the full bar, the other side is a Mexican restaurant. And they meet in the middle with additional seating and a pool table. Despite being a small-ish location, its well set to handle small or medium groups without feeling cramped. Towards the restaurant end - perfection. Our waitress made it a 5 star experience for my group. She accommodated my party immediately, 7 motorcycle riders with all our gear. She kept up well with our tables, on point with her suggestions, and had the best attitude. I wish I could remember her name.. The menu offers a great selection of Mexican favorites. I got a wet chicken burrito with a side of rice/beans/tortillas, a decision I do not regret... I came over to check out the Reno room for the first time today and I took my own advice and ride the Harley down here. Good thing I did because there was a ton of construction going on out front and there was no place to park. Speaking of construction, when I went inside there were about 4 guys at the bar talking about construction and speculating as to what the job was, who was doing it and how long it was going to take. After listening to them for about 10 minutes and piping in from time to time, we decided that they were private contractors that probably love working close to the beach in the cool weather and they are probably going to be working here all summer long digging up Redondo Avenue and putting in new corners. Now let me back up a bit and talk about my approach. I had my phone out and this place has been here a long time so there was plenty of cool signage on the outside to take pictures of. As you enter the Reno Room, the bar is off to the left and there are 4 booths to the left as well which can probably seat about 4 people each. The bathrooms are to the right and as you move to the back of the bar you will find two pool tables which I am sure get a lot of action. There is a cool neon sign that reads The World Famous Reno Room. There is also a taco joint called Cocorenos connected to the bar adjacent to the pool tables which worked out perfectly because I was starving. For lunch I grabbed two beef tacos and they were of good size and more importantly the came out in like 3 minutes. It was kind of cool how they cook the food right in front of you buffet style and that place is a different review for a different day. For my cocktail selection I went with a vodka soda. I know not a very impressive cocktail but a cocktail nonetheless. I downed my tacos and my drink in short order and headed out to the next spot. As I was leaving I noticed that they had a chalkboard with drink specials and they way they had the bloody mary on there looked pretty good. I've been here before and service was ok. Today is completely different. Got drinks ok because we went to the bar to get them. The bartender, Lisa, finally gave us a menu but hasn't been back to check on us or take our order in the last 40 minutes. There's actually two bartenders and the second one ignores as well. We may never come back. So disappointed. Our drinks have been empty for 20 minutes and she knew wanted food. She never came back to get our order. Lisa should think of working somewhere else where customer service isn't an issue. We are out!!!! read more

Giving them the benefit of the doubt and not trying to be a snob, I let the waiter know that my group thought there was something wrong with this particular beer. As a customer service manager I would never have anyone like her representing my business. This was my second interaction with her and it was not a good one. She not only made me feel unwelcome but also ruined my buzz. My first time I ever decided to not tip. I will come back again if she's no longer working there. This place felt like I was drinking in my buddy's basement. This place has one of the best juke boxes I've ever seen! I play a game with my boyfriend where I try to stump him by selecting a song that he doesn't know, or doesn't know the artist...but he always wins : [ The best seat in the house is directly to your left as soon as you walk in. It's nice a cozy and separate from everyone else. Good for couple *wink wink*. The staff is friendly, the drinks are good, and the clientele always seems down to earth. We have had some good conversations with strangers here. I have to hold back one star because the last time I was there we actually wanted to eat, they had the menus out so we assumed there was a waitress but no one ever came to take our order. I think we ended up getting taco bell that night. All I'm saying is if you are gonna but menus out, you better have a server. read more

All right, I'll admit it. I like the Reno Room. Any bar that isn't overly crowded on a Thursday night and serves up stiff, cheap drinks in a dark setting is something I can get along with. It may not be the best dive bar in town. Hell, it may not even classify as a dive bar in this town. You may not run into the cool kids here, but who cares. It serves a purpose and that purpose is getting you to drink more than may be the best idea. Now, it isn't a total dive, but it occupies a corner, attracts many locals, is dark inside, has a pool table and questionable bathrooms. So, in my book, it qualifies. The other night I was here for the first time with a bunch of friends when I happened to notice that there was no music playing. "Great," I thought to myself, "I'll go choose some tunes!" Sitting near the jukebox was a group of four or so overweight girls. I paid for 12 credits and was punching in some songs when I happened to hear the girls talking amongst themselves-- Girl 1: "Oh my god, that person better not choose s*itty music" Girl 2: "Don't worry, if she does, I'll just skip it" Girl 3: "I love yoouuuuuuuu" Now, of course I shrugged this nonsense talk off because I recognized it for what it was-- the sad ramblings of drunk bar girls who feel catty after knocking back a few cosmos or jack and cokes or whatever other swill it was they were drinking. I chose a bunch of songs and went back to sit down and pretty much forgot they even existed, until I happened to notice that one of the girls-- the one who said she'd skip any music she didn't like (another asian girl with glasses)-- actually worked there at the bar. Gross. Zero stars for customer service, Reno Room. I made sure to tell the people buying my group's drinks not to tip that girl in particular and I won't be back. There are better jukeboxes and much nicer bartenders pretty much anywhere else in Long Beach. read more

Let me start by saying that I have always wanted to go here for some reason. I can't explain why, it's just that every time I passed I felt a compelling urge to check it out. Had only it stopped there. I should have left it as nothing more than a silent fantasy that I never dreamed to experience. Turns out this place is like the hot chick that you always wanted, but once you get her you realize she's a horrible shrew of human being (not that I know what that's like, but I can imagine). Yes, the Sirens truly called me in to shipwreck on this one. I did give it two stars because I really liked the layout of the place. The real problem was the people who happenned to occupy that space. As soon as I walked in I felt like I entered some strange world where everyone is in John Travolta's posse in Grease. There were leather jackets everywhere. I don't think you'd find that much leather at a David Hasselhoff concert in Berlin on New Years. My friends sat down and I went to the bar to grab some drinks. I was hoping to get back and join in on whatever tantalizing conversation was being discussed at our table, but alas, this was not to be the case. I had to fight my way to the bar and once I got there I barely got so much as a glance from the bartenders. While I stood and desperately waited to even place my drink order I was forced to listen to the drunk guy next to me regail me with tales about his absolutely enthralling journey through life. Oh I tried hard to make it obvious I wasn't listening to him, but that was not enough to end his verbal barrage of trite and asinine commentary. Get me those fucking drinks! Finally I made it back to my group and we aired our mutual disdain for this place, but decided to tough it out. A choice obviously doomed to be a bad one. People were spilling drinks on us and the table, getting drinks proved a consistant time consuming battle and the smell of leather care products and Marlboro Reds was overwhelming. Then there was the constant ass smacking. I couldn't walk to or from the table without having people smacking my ass. Girls and guys a like, mind you. It was as if everyone there came to a decision at some point that my ass was to be the one to use as a bongo drum this particular evening. If I was an asshole (or physically imposing or aggressive in any way) I probably would have got in a fight over it, but decided that it would be best to just pack up camp and hit the bricks. If only the sign out front said "The Reno Room: An ass slapathon delivered by a bunch of guys with a Fonzy complex and the women who love them", I could have avoided this whole bad memory. read more

The only reason why one should go to this bar is if it is within walking distance. End story. Well, unless of course you like to be hit on by every other, rather disgusting, man and the occasional woman. Now I know what you're thinking...ohhh flattering, but no. If you saw the groups that gather, the word "frightening" comes to mind. You could fill a tool box with the numbers of tools in that bar. Speaking of tools, Reno Room is practically defined as that "special"-type of bar that you are pretty much guaranteed to run into that crazy friend or ex from high school. Good times good times. The bathrooms are never near clean and hold a slightly offensive smell. It's a good it's dark in the bar, because somehow I doubt the rest of the place a "no corrective action needed" stamp of approval. Drinks are relatively cheap, I'll give it that... and they make a good pixie stick shot. However, I'm pretty sure the taps have never been cleaned. Which can ruin a Guiness faster than the tear you shed after your first sip. Sadness. But, if you live close, or you just finished EJs and need a shot, it satiates the desire. read more

There were 5 of us and a round of Vodka and 7-up's was only $20.00.. DAMN is all i said at the total!! -They accept cash and credit cards! -The drinks are pretty strong. -Its dark in here!! Just the way i like it. -The juke box has a pretty good selection of tunes. Or atleast whoever was picking the songs was doing a good job! -Booths that can hold a large group without any issues. -Couple of pool tables in the back if you want to play some drunkin pool with your buddies. -Friendly door staff and bartenders. Now for the not so good stuff: -Parking! On a Friday night down on Broadway it is a challange. Just make sure you dont park in a loading zone, or a red zone! - I'm not sure about the men's restroom, but the womens restroom is hella small. How small you ask.. well it makes an outhouse look really spacious! I will give props for it being squeaky clean. -Since there is a mexican take out place next door (which is a great idea, for the late night drunkin munchies) between the smell of old grease, spilled booze, and some funky body odor i started not to feel to well. i probably have no business reviewing the reno room, because i'm not a regular and i feel like this is the sort of place that should be reviewed ONLY by regulars, because newbs probably can't be trusted to get it. that said, i feel like i'm enough of an old soul when it comes to bars to get it despite having only been there a handful of times, so i'm going to go ahead and throw my hat in the ring and babble like a moron for a minute about the two reasons i love the reno room and wish my lifestyle afforded me the ability to BE a regular: i LOVE the atmosphere. whether it's 11p on a friday or 2p on a wednesday, despite being totally different environments, this bar is just... fucking cool. when crowded, the vibe is electric and friendly and just feels fucking GOOD, and when dead, it's laid back and chill and the barkeeps are good for a bit of storytelling. the pool tables. they're bar none the best in long beach. though i have a particular fondness for the streetside table at 36, these tables are exceptional, and my favorite on which to shoot. i could go on here, but only a small eclectic audience would give a shit about that, so i'll save it. anyway, yeah, there's food attached, and that's great, though i tend not to like to eat when i drink. the juke is good. the parking is what you'd expect, though hey, if you get a spot in the lot good on you! the service is great. all of those things are likewise true. it's just, above are the reasons *i* LOVE this joint. so there you have it; do with it what you will. read more

The Reno Room seems to be my go to place when nothing is going on and I just want to hang out, have a cold one and people watch. The ladies working behind the bar are all very friendly and attentive. I wish bartenders everywhere were like that! So yeah I love the Reno Room for their decent prices, service and their juke box. The only thing I hate about going to the Reno Room is the lack of ventilation. Which is the main reason they don't get 5 stars... All the fried food going on next door makes the entire location smell. So make sure you don't dress up to come here. Also be aware that YOU will be smelling like a fried chalupa upon entering the place. read more
