A work colleague remembered a Washington Post review of this newish restaurant in Reston when we were looking for dinner on a bitterly cold Wednesday night. Four of us decided to give it a shot especially since it is located outside of the tired Town Center scene. Red's Table is located south of the Toll Road on a lovely lake but tucked in the corner of a strip shopping center with a terrible parking lot. There was limited parking with cars circling to find spots when I arrived around 6pm. Luckily one of the banks was closed and I was able to find a nice spot in their lot. Once inside things were looking up. I was immediately recognized and welcomed by one of the hostesses. My Yelp reservation was all in order and we were promptly shown to our table. Our table though we quickly discovered was next to the doorway out to the plastic wrapped patio and we would feel a blast of cold every time the door was opened. I was initially bothered by this but forgot about it after a little while probably because I had started drinking a nice locally brewed IPA from Fair Winds. They have a fabulous selection of beers both on tap and bottled. We started with a few appetizers suggested by our server. Their menu is seasonal and changes every month or two but the calamari we picked is a regular on it. It came in a casserole like dish with a smoked red tomato sauce and a I don't know white seafood(?) sauce. Super yummy and gone in a flash. We also ordered some oysters and cocktail shrimp. I skipped the oysters but the others loved them while the cocktail shrimp was your typical fare. I'm not sure there is much one can do to jazz up cold shrimp although the accompanying red sauce had a little kick to it. Next time, I would just get two orders of the calamari. For my main dish, I chose Papa Weaver's Pork Chop and apple sauce. Everyone else selected the Shellfish Cioppino also recommended by our server. I wasn't asked what temperature I would like for the chop but it came out probably medium with a little bit of pink in the center. Very well prepared and tasty. The apple sauce was lovely and a little more savory than traditional sweet. I thought the portion though could have been more generous as I ran out of sauce before I was done eating the chop. My dish was also served with a nice winter vegetable ragout all chopped up into little cubes. I enjoyed but I think that portion may have been too large and I tired of eating it towards the end. My friends seafood dishes looked tasty and very messy. One of them commented that a spoon would have been nice to slurp up the remaining sauce. Service throughout the evening was good and not so good. The hostess was pleasant and helpful. I liked that our server talked about the restaurant and the menu with us and shared his favorites. The not so good are the little things that make or break a great meal. The bread brought to the table only had three pieces in it for the four of us. When the apps arrived, we didn't have plates and had to wait a few minutes to get them. My water glass was always empty and I constantly had to ask for a refill. Would we return again? Most definitely. There are some other items on their menu that I would like a crack at. It wouldn't take much to notch up the table service but I am not sure what to do about the parking headache. Perhaps it was an anomaly that evening but next time I'll bum a ride with someone. read more

Happy hour from 330-7! Service was great from the bar to our waiter. Ordered the half dozen oysters from the HH menu $10, fries, buffalo wings and crab dip and ribs from the main menu. Crab dip was amazing and also dipped our fries in it. The wings were average nothing special but the ribs came with fried Mac and cheese that was AWESOME. The outside was very crispy and the inside mac was cheesy and hot. Ribs were decent, the sauce was flavorful. Nice covered outdoor seating and cool rustic vibe. Reston has a lot of great dining options. Don't waste your time going to a place with terrible service and mediocre, overpriced food. Asked for an outdoor table for two. Our server brought us waters, then vanished forever. We saw him helping other tables, but he never came back to get our orders. After about 15 minutes, another server noticed that nobody was helping us, then came and took our drink orders to help her coworker. Unfortunately, those drinks never arrived. Then nobody ever came to take our food orders. We felt extremely ignored. They weren't very busy either. We left after 30 minutes of sitting there hungry without service. On the way out, I mentioned what had hapenned to the manager, and he just responded "Ok." Additionally, I ordered takeout from here a few months ago. They "couldn't find the order" after I placed it on their website, so they didn't start making the food until I arrived to pick up the order. So getting takeout from here took 2+ hours. Red's Table has definitely matured into a wonderful Reston fixture in the last few years. They've updated their menu and become more consistent in their quality and the service has improved drastically. The bar is delightfully open and bright and the outdoor patio on the lake is the best you can get in Reston. The custom drinks are always a delight and the staff is friendly and attentive. If you're looking for fresh fish and seafood, while their menu is smaller than a bigger restaurant, everything we've had here has been fresh and well prepared. The catch of the day is always delicious and perfectly cooked. Tip - Get here early for happy hour as the place fills up. The oysters are fantastic with excellent mix of local beers on tap. read more

I tried reserving a table by calling the establishment, only to get the answering service, so I reserved online, only to have to go through a 3rd party. Long story short, made reservation was not there. My family and I made it work, but I did jot get what I asked for. And I reserved the table WAY ahead of schedule. The menu was good, but not very many options. The food was fine, but, if we had other choices, that would have made up for the botched reservation. read more

I would recommend this place but stay away from the 22 dollar scallop cob salad. My sister and her husband loved it.

TBH, I have had mixed luck with Red's. I love the concept and the view. However, something has gone wrong the two times I've gone (about a year apart). The first time (last year), the kitchen was extremely backed up. I understand they have a new chef now. This time the service was excellent, by both staff and management. However, I ordered the scallop entree. I received a dish with exactly three below-average size scallops. To me, that's an appetizer, not a $27 entree, and the menu didn't say anything about amount. When I complained, they did their best to make it right. The manager said the chef usually gives large to extra large scallops. They offered a free drink, comp'd my entree, and provided free dessert. And TBH, the dish was really good! My wife liked her crab cakes, and we both liked the banana pudding dessert. read more

We booked red's table patio for our small wedding celebration. We wanted something outdoors on a patio to be safer given the pandemic. The event was really great. Ryan, the event planner, was very responsive, friendly, and took care of all our requests. At the event, the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. We used a set menu with items that are from the regular menu. I had the rockfish entree and crab bisque appetizer. Was delicious. I tasted some other items and was all very good. The view from the patio of the lake is very beautiful. I highly recommend red's table for an event or just a dinner out. read more
