    Stinky Roll

We were so disappointed on our visit to Red Shiso yesterday... We have been such a regular to the restaurant, probably been there for more than 15 times in the past. But it has been like half a year since we have dined there, so we were excited to finally go there for dinner yesterday. We tried out a lot of the new items of the new menu: the fish and chip roll, chashu miso ramen and the bbq spicy skillet. The fish and chip roll wasn't really that good, the deep fried fish in the roll was too dry. The worst of all was the chashu miso ramen, it costed $13.95, and it made us so angry when we saw that the ramen that was served looked like it was made from japanese instant noodle, yet tasted even worse than instant noodle. The soup broth was so bland, and the noodles were exactly from an instant noodle pack.

We were nearby and decided to stop by here for dinner. The restaurant was fairly busy. We were seated right away and menus were dropped off. It took a bit of time for our server to return with tea and take our order due to the busyness of customers leaving and customers calling in for take out orders. Food arrived a short time later and we were amazed at the presentation and quality of the food. The only disappointment thing was the chopped scallop for for $6.50. It looked very average and costed significantly more than other restaurants in the north Surrey area. I ordered the BC Combo and was surprised that the BC roll was covered in sauce. Usually, I prefer my BC roll without the added sauce but it was alright to try something different. I was impressed they used wild salmon instead of the usual farmed salmon. Everything tasted fresh. Service did improve over the course of the meal. Our tea was refilled a couple times. Prices are a bit more compared to average Surrey pricing. However, the quality of the food is better and the portion size is fair. Staff thanked us as we left the restaurant.

Spicey California roll on purple rice... SOO GOOOOD! I love how warm and fresh it is!!!! First time here, but I'm def coming back!!!

First time at this restaurant, second time reviewing things. I LOVE this place! Had the spicy California roll (you can choose White, brown or purple rice on all the rolls). This thing was BOMB! Fantastic! Warm, fresh and just spicy enough. Hit the spot! Services was super friendly, and environment calm, and felt private... LOVE that! I'm definitely coming back!

This dinner box was raided by my teenagers and there was still a ton of food to eat!

North Surrey residents used to complain that we didn't have enough good restaurants to choose from. Thank goodness for Red Shiso, the newest restaurant in Fraser Heights. Delicious food with very generous portions. Innovative presentations and super friendly fast service make this place a real standout. Try the Love Fan! At last we have our own 'hole in the wall'. Great for groups too. They're always busy so come before you're ravenous!

Great hidden gem! I'm glad it's in my neighborhood. Their portion size could be better but it's delicious! Would definitely go back! :)

My favourite sushi place. Their chicken teriyaki is the best. Sashimi pieces are huge and great service every time we go with our kids.

Menu: Chawan mushi - steamed egg custard with vegetable(bean, shimeji mushroom) and seafood(shrimp and slice of fish) Ankimo - Monkfish Liver with seasonal seafood(scallop and shrimp) Grilled black cod, with saikyo miso and marinated blue fin tuna and cooked egg. Tenpura - seafood (slice of fish, seafood stuffed vegetable and vegetable(shiitake) 9 pieces of sushi Daily miso soup - clam Dessert - kinako and mitarashi dango Chawan mushi was great. I can taste fish based broth and egg custard was very silky and smooth. Decent amount of ingredients sush as shrimp, slice of fish , bean and shimeji mushroom. I wish they served it slightly cooler than too hot. Ankimo - Great item. Monkfish liver was rich and paired with scallop and shrimp so well. Sauce was just ok. Grilled black cod was another great item. Crispy and juicy, just perfectly done. Blue fine tuna was covered by salty marinated sauce which was great when wrapped with seaweed. Cooked egg was just ok Tenpura - Seafood stuffed vegetable was my favorite. Others were also decent. Highlight and stand out item was 9 pieces of sushi. Honmaguro(bluefine tuna) was good. Shari(sushi rice) was nicely seasoned with vinegar, very mild and which I liked it. Tuna was delicious. Sea breem(MADAI) was another good piece. Delicious. Aburi Toro was nicely seared. I wish this item could be a bit more softer and buttery, but it was still good. Akaebi(red shrimp) and Hokkaido sea urchin - Lightly torched the top of sea urchin and its smokiness brought out more sweetness flavor of Akaebi(red shrimp) Hokkaido Scallop - Very smooth, soft and nice texture. Delicious. Kinmedai(Gold eye snapper) -- My favorite. Texture was very soft and chewy, It was great item. Hokkaido sea urchin - Actually, this one was just ok. I wish it could be more creamy. Unagi - One of the best item. It was so fluffy and soft right after chef cooked and served. This is a must try item. Daily miso soup with clam - I can taste fish broth (dashi) flavor so well. Clam was delicious. It was good. Dessert - Kinako coated mitarashi dango -It was nicely chewy and soft. I wish there were more sauce on it. Overall, it worth visiting this place. The only problem is that so hard to get a reservation. Hopefully, I can get next reservation, may be next year.

We love Japanese cuisine so I decided to surprise the hubby with an omakase for his birthday in January. Unfortunately, they have a 6-month wait and I was not prepared so I ended up booking it for our anniversary in May. The food was phenomenal and delicious! I love the chawanmushi loaded with goodies inside. The ankimo (monkfish liver) dish was so tasty with the scallop and prawn. Black cod was cooked to perfection! The nigiris are all so fresh. We quickly put ourselves on the waiting list for after September so we can come here again soon! There's a parking lot just next door. The place inside is small and intimate. Service is great!

The variety or options on their all you can eat menu is very limited but the quality makes up for it. I came with a friend and her son. Her son is 12 years old. If you have a kid remember to bring ID or some sort of proof of age to try the all you can eat. One thing to note is that there is a limit on the sashimi which is 10 per person. The kid doesn't have sashimi. But again it is $1 per age of the kid. The food here was very delicious. The sashimi was a bit on the small end but it was ok. They have prawn tempura in their AYCE menu. I came here for lunch so it was only $32 per person which was not bad. I like how you order through an IPad so there is no trying to get a hold of a server. Overall, I recommend this place for AYCE.

The restaurant is in the middle of the long building on the S side of the parking lot. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot. No problems at all. The inside is quite pretty. Feels like an outdoor patio in Asia, with the wooden pergolas and fake cherry blossoms. Special mention. Staff are friendly. No complaints. They have a regular menu, but my buddy and I were here for allyoucaneat. They have a lunch and dinner menu, but no late nite. Last call is 30 minutes before closing, so don't come too late in the evening. Sushi here is quite fresh. Selection is not the largest, but it's pretty decent. The one glaring thing that stood out is that other than chicken/beef teriyaki, there are no hot food items (skewers, karaage, ribs etc.). I'm not going to hold this against them, but it's definitely something to keep in mind before showing up. On the other hand, there is no limit for the ice cream scoops at the end. Beautiful. They have chocolate and vanilla. Worth checking out if one is in the area. Recommended.

Beef teriyaki was excellent. Lots of indoor seating. Modern decor. Clean. It would be better if you assign servers to specific table. Tasty tho, they had my favourite Oshi Saba, my partner's; negintoro, spicy chops scallop roll and for main he had the vegetable udon and I had the Pork Katsu. Good food, nice atmosphere, be prepared to spend a little more.
