The best thing about the place is the decor. It's very cool and authentic it might almost be worth going just to eat in. Unfortunately the food was pretty bland and overpriced. We had the Tom ka Gai which is my litmus test for Thai restaurants and it was watery (not creamy at all) and bland. Same for the Pad Thai. It was like Bangkok Chef level. The staff was very helpful and friendly, len and Andrew served us and we're very polite and accommodating to my extremely strict vegan diet, although I returned a few dishes because they smelled fishy, I eventually found out the smell I was catching was bamboo shoots ! My vegan pad thai was amazing. But my friend's chicken pad thai had plastic in it. They brought her a new plate and she thought it tasted good too. Nice wait staff and pretty quick service. I recommend sitting at the table with floor seating if you haven't before. read more

We loved the food and enjoyed sitting outdoors. It's a perfect place to safely enjoy a dinner out without worrying about social distancing. We were big fans of Siam Garden at this location and very pleased the Red Elephant family has taken the space. Restaurant looks terrific and has a wonderful outdoor area complete with piano, on top of excellent food. Free coronavirus! The waitress wore a mask, but none of the 3 people in the back had one. I stood there for 20 minutes waiting for take out. No mask in sight. Amazing. The doorknob that everyone uses: the waitress brining food to people outside just grabbed it, then put her hand right back on the plate she was serving. Red Elephant Thai is an amazing restaurant in Kaimuki with the cutest ambience and the most delicious food. We got the spring rolls and fried chicken as appetizers and both were amazing! The fried chicken came with sweet and sour sauce and was perfectly fried. We also got green curry, drunken noodles and the pineapple fried rice which were all so flavorful and filling. The service is great and worth the wait for food when it's busy. Highly recommend!! read more

The flavor of the food was good but there were just a few pieces of chicken in the dish. We ordered chicken pad thai and there were maybe 3 pieces of chicken in it. Same with the evil jungle curry with chicken - just a few pieces. And don't go by the photos on the menu! The duck curry looked great in the photo with alot of meat but actually was served with just a few scrappy pieces. When we asked the owner about the photo she said they were stock photos from the internet and don't represent their actual food. The spring rolls are made with wonton wrappers and not rice paper and were not so good - not much filling. We would not come back here. read more

Tonight I ordered take out from Red Elephant Thai, and was very pleased that you could order off of their website, which I did. When I went to pick up my order, the woman who was standing behind the counter and who helped me was NOT WEARING A MASK. The mask was hanging off of her face, with one loop around one ear. Once she moved to help me, she put her mask on. After I got home, I realized that 2 items were not in my order. After checking it against my receipt, I called to let them know. The person who answered the phone (the same person who did not have her mask on) started yelling at me, saying, "No, no, no". She was saying that I was wrong and the order was correct. I kept telling her what was missing and she then asked me what my name was and went to pull up the order. So she was yelling at me before she even checked the order! When she finally realized that I was correct, she mumbled an apology and told me to come back and pick up the items. Normally a place would offer you a choice of a refund for the items or to come and pick it up, but places with any sort of customer service do not yell at you in the first place. All she had to do was apologize when I called and made some attempt to make things right and I would have been fine. Instead, I will never go back there and will let everyone know. read more

The service was very poor. I waited 5 minutes to be seated or even spoken to, despite 3 members constantly looking at me and talking. Then, my waitress seemed absolutely miserable and had no sense of hospitality. I have now been waiting for an hour for my order. Update: The food is still fantastic but our little romantic date was made unpleasant by the fact that only two items out of three arrived at our table. First off they had us move tables to accommodate a large group which we obliged. Made us feel a little weird but hey, we were going to eat our favorite Thai food. We would survive a little rearrangement. We literally only ordered the duck curry, sticky rice and the crispy rice salad. We've ordered this combination at least 3 times now and never once had a problem with items coming separately. The waiter told us as we were about half way done with our sticky rice and duck curry that the crispy rice salad takes a bit to cook but it would be out shortly. Mind you, we were the first people in there before anyone else had arrived. The other tables began getting their food and we very slowly finished our food (we were planning on slurping up the last of our curry with the crispy rice) and we waited about another 10 more minutes watching everyone else eat. The waiter came around again and said it would be a few more minutes. We said okay. It wasn't until another 15 minutes later that a different waiter came and said that salad took time to cook (same as the first time they told us) and it would be out shortly. By that point we were still very hungry but our patient had worn thin and we were not willing to wait as we had been there more than an hour by that point. We got up and said we were done. They asked if we wanted to take it home as a take out (you mean it was ready now?!!) but my appetite for their food went with my patience. If they had only told us it would not be out until after we finished all our food and then another 30 minutes beyond that, we would've ordered something else. The waiter apologized a few times and we mumbled an "okay" and left. The lady who usually helps us and is usually so pleasant basically ignored us as she told the waiter to ask if we wanted to take it home. She never looked at us or addressed us personally. We were shocked to be honest. Though I love their food and always called them my favorite Thai food on the island, I'm not sure I would go back there again based on our last experience. We decided to try this place for the first time today. I really like Thai food so this was going to be a treat. Disappointed in every dish. The Pad Thai was cooked to mush and had no flavor. The Cashew chicken was overcooked too and watery. The spring rolls had not enough filling and what there was lacked any texture or flavor. The spare rib soup had good flavor but was filled with hard inedible pieces of lemon grass and ginger that I had to spit out of every mouthful. The Pa-Nang curry was the best of the bad dishes but too watery and lacked flavor. The fried fish with garlic was pretty tasty but there was only about 4 ounces of fish in total for $16.99 - too little fish for the price. The "pork jerky" was the only one we really like but again there was far too little meat for the price. Overall we were both disappointed in the flavor, the quality and the price. Too bad because we love Thai food and this is near our home so we would have been regular customers here if it was good. But, sadly, we won't be having food from the Red Elephant Thai again. read more

Extremely small portion sizes. Got the cashew chicken for one dish and it would barely feed one person let along when combining with other dishes you might get some amount of feeling full. I mean really, is there no good Thai restaurants on Oahu? I am really having a tough time convincing myself that there's a restaurant that is not only good but also has decent portion sizes. Had dinner there with another couple last night. We had a number of dishes and all were tasty. My favorite was the Evil Jungle Curry with shrimp and another was the stir fried dish with chicken. Tried the Drunken Noodles as it was highly rated by Yelpers and it was fantastic! Also tried the Eggplant with beef, fried calamari, spring rolls and papaya salad, all great. The crab curry was very tasty, but I let my dining partners enjoy it as I don't having to pick apart like small pieces of crab. The roti dessert was so good, I almost wished we didn't share it! Called in an order of Pad Thai, summer rolls, and fried rice. Got there to pick up my order and they had told me that we did not order fried rice which we did. They did not feel bad about it also.
